LIFESTYLE LETTER

New Year. Renewed Spirit. Canton Strong. A new year doesn’t just turn the page. It offers us the opportunity to realign, refocus, and refresh every part of who we are. As we step into 2026, we do so with deep gratitude for the journey we took together in 2025. This past year brought powerful stories, inspiring partnerships, and reminders of how strong and connected our Canton and Cherokee County communities truly are. And now, with clear vision and focused energy, we begin a new chapter dedicated to wellness. This issue explores what it really means to be well. We dive into mental health strategies that help build strong mindsets, highlight the growing popularity of pickleball as both a sport and a social connection, and spotlight the hottest health and wellness items for the year ahead. Whether you're committing to daily walks or setting spiritual goals, January is a time to reset your rhythm. We also take you on a journey to Sandals St. Vincent, the ultimate wellness escape. Surrounded by Caribbean beauty and stillness, it offers the kind of soullevel renewal that many of us crave. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your well-being is to pause, breathe, and restore. For me personally, the new year is less about resolutions and more about realignment. In a world that constantly pulls us toward distraction and performance, I’m reminded that as Christians, we are not called to be of this world, but rather a light in the midst of it. My prayer and purpose for 2026 is to serve as many people as I can with humility and heart. To be present, not perfect. And to walk in alignment with the One who called us to be His hands and feet. As Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Looking ahead, we are excited to amplify our commitment to community through social media, digital storytelling, and high-impact print. As Canton and Cherokee County’s biggest champion, our mission is to celebrate, connect, and collaborate with every business, nonprofit, and neighbor doing meaningful work. We are thankful to our partners, our readers, and everyone who makes this publication possible. You are the reason we keep going. Let’s make 2026 a year of strength, service, and transformation. Wellness travel continues to rise as well. The Global Wellness Institute reported steady post-pandemic growth in restorative, nutrition-focused, and nature-based retreats, with travelers seeking experiences that strengthen the body and calm the mind. Yet the most meaningful trend is the desire to unplug. Pew Research finds more adults are setting boundaries with screens and intentionally choosing honest conversations, community gatherings, quiet trails, and time outdoors. In 2026, wellness is less about doing more and more and more about rediscovering balance, connection, and joy.

SANDALS SAINT VINCENT ULTIMATE WELLNESS ESCAPE Explore Saint Vincent and the Grenadines through elevated wellness, mindful luxury, ocean rhythms, spa rituals, and restorative island living.

ARTICLE BY SEAN O’KEEFE PHOTOGRAPHY BY SANDALS RESORTS

T R AV E L J OU R N A L | TRAV E L

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines unfolds like a meditation in motion; lush volcanic peaks softened by warm trade winds, turquoise waters lapping at sun-warmed shores, and a people whose gracious, welcoming spirit reflects

a legacy shaped by African, Caribbean, and European roots. Located in the Southeastern Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, this archipelago is anchored by the main island of Saint Vincent and scattered with thirty-two Grenadine islets and cays. Each island offers its own natural cadence, from rainforests that breathe with life to coral reefs pulsing beneath crystal-clear seas, it is the kind of place that gently invites you to exhale, find your peace and take a deep meaningful breath. At the heart of this restorative rhythm is Sandals, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, an adults-only, all-inclusive sanctuary tucked into a dramatic, mountain-wrapped cove. Here, luxury is expressed through intention, and wellness is not a program—it is a way of being. Every detail, from the carefully designed spaces to the intuitive service, encourages presence and renewal. Sunset walks along powder-soft beaches, tranquil spa rituals, and cuisine rooted in the earth and sea create an atmosphere where the body unwinds and the spirit follows willingly.

Accommodations feel less like guestrooms and more like private sanctuaries. Whether in a swim-up suite with a secluded soaking tub, an oceanfront villa, or an opulent two-story overwater bungalow, each space is designed to nurture rest, relaxation, and reflection. At Sandals Saint Vincent, villas are designed as restorative retreats for body and spirit. Private plunge pools invite mindful mornings, while ocean breezes drift through open terraces for effortless calm. Surrounded by lush greenery and quiet luxury, each villa becomes a sanctuary of stillness. Overwater bungalows float above crystalline Caribbean waters, offering glass-floor views, outdoor soaking tubs, ocean front terraces. Designed for romance and renewal, each bungalow blends barefoot luxury with ultimate privacy where wellness, privacy, and Caribbean serenity flow together in perfect balance. The resort’s Butler Service further elevates the experience, offering personalized, seamless care that allows guests to release the pressures of daily life and fully settle into ‘les arts de ne rein faire’; the art of doing nothing, quite beautifully. “The islands offer balance in abundance. The exhilaration of motion is met by quiet moments of absolute awe.”

20

T R AV E L J OU R N A L | TRAV E L

Dining at Sandals Saint Vincent bridges indulgence and nourishment. Across twelve distinct culinary venues, the island’s bounty takes center stage; fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and fragrant spices layered with global technique are behind every menu. Each bite better than the last with thoughtful indulgences every culinary step of the way. Mornings begin slowly at Blum, the resort’s bespoke coffee and pastry atelier. Lunch unfolds oceanside at Parisol or at the nearby Jerk Shack, while evenings invite refinement at Butch’s Island Chop House or open-flame island flavors at Buccan’s communal tables. A curated rum flight at Three Jewels Rum Bar becomes a

ritual, while late-night pizza at Isola and a silken affogato from Crema close the day on a perfect note. For those who seek both stillness and exploration, the islands offer balance in abundance. High-speed boat tours skim across aquamarine waters to Mustique and Bequia, where the exhilaration of motion is met by quiet moments of absolute awe. Mustique whispers first, a secret haven of discretion and refined luxury. Once Princess Margaret’s retreat, its emerald hills hide secluded villas and pristine beaches. Bequia contrasts with approachable sophistication; pastel harbors, sailing vessels, and cafés pulse with

maritime warmth, offering unassuming charm. Be sure to swing by Bar One, the floating bar anchored in the mouth of Admiralty Bay, you can thank me later. Between the islands, the journey becomes indulgence itself; rum punch, sea spray, and endless horizons. This is intimate Caribbean travel, where elegance meets soul, and luxury is measured in light, water, and unhurried moments. Water sports, from scuba diving and paddle boarding to kayaking and waterskiing, invite guests to tune into the rhythm of the sea. Sunset catamaran cruises, bat cave adventures, and private candlelit ocean-side beach dinners turn experiences into memories, each framed by the natural beauty of the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The soul of the resort’s wellness experience lives at the Red Lane Spa, a serene refuge set along the

Buccament River. Surrounded by flowing water, lush gardens, and open-air tranquility, the spa offers bespoke treatments inspired by the island’s natural elements. Rejuvenate your body, nurture your spirit, and let tranquility, harmony, and radiant energy flow. Immerse in relaxation, release tension, and embrace a shared journey of peace, renewal, and mindful indulgence. Here, wellness and restoration come not just through touch, but through atmosphere—where mindfulness is felt as much as it is practiced. Renewal lingers long after each treatment ends. It is as simple as step aboard your flight in Atlanta and, just over four hours later, step into paradise in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Delta Air Lines new direct flights, launching this month, whisk you 2,043 miles away to lush landscapes, turquoise waters, island serenity, and endless peace of mind.

Pickleball is no longer just a national trend. It has become a centerpiece of recreation and community life here in Cherokee County. What once began as a simple backyard pastime has evolved into a lively, fast-growing sport embraced by children, teens, parents, grandparents, and everyone in between. Step onto any local court and you will see what makes it special: steady paddles, bright energy, and a spirit of connection that keeps the game moving. Part of pickleball’s charm is how approachable it is. The rules are simple, the learning curve is gentle, and the fun begins almost immediately. Yet the strategy, speed, and finesse keep

even the most seasoned athletes engaged. It is not unusual to find a middle schooler rallying with a retiree, each trading impressive shots and laughing between points. The sport’s multigenerational nature has woven it beautifully into the social fabric of the county. Cherokee County has quickly built a network of standout destinations where residents can play, learn, and compete. 575 Pickleball in Woodstock is now one of the most popular hubs, offering open play, private lessons, clinics, leagues, and social mixers that feel as welcoming as they are energetic. Here, new friendships form as easily as winning shots.

It has become a signature part of Cherokee County life, bringing people together in a way that reflects the warmth of Canton and the movement of a community on the rise.

ARTICLE BY APRIL SCHULTE-BARCLAY

Values Is the most important key to living a full and healthy life hiding from you? There are many factors to consider when thinking about what constitutes health. The food we eat, exercise, environmental influences, our emotions, and our spiritual awareness are all pillars of health. However, there is one factor that tops the list which often goes unspoken; living in alignment with your value system. Defining values helps a person to structure their life based on personal belief systems by determining what is most meaningful and important to them. From there, a sense of purpose is derived and defined values become tenets from which to live. There are plentiful examples of values, and they vary from person to person. Some examples of values include family, humility, benevolence, leadership, kindness, independence, creativity, and adventure. Our emotions serve to guide us to understanding whether our actions are in alignment with our values. When we live incongruently with our value system, we are betraying ourselves and delivering a subconscious message that we do not matter. Emotions that can come from not living in accordance with our values are based in fear and include anxiety, depression, anger, resentment,

30

Health

and jealousy. Living from a place of fear tends to foster bad habits such as addictive behavior, poor dietary choices, negative sleep habits, and unhealthy relationships. Physiologically, the natural flow of energy in the body becomes stuck, wreaking havoc in the body physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. From there, symptoms and illness ensue. However, when we love and respect ourselves enough, we will spend our time and energy according to our values and emotions where love becomes more prevalent. Those emotions include gratitude, joy, peace, comfort, connection, trust, and happiness. Living from love leads to a desire, willingness and commitment to engage in activities that fulfill our sense of purpose. By doing so, our body’s energy moves with ease. When our energy flows freely, we feel vital, healthy, purposeful, and joyful. Identifying our values becomes easier when we create space in our lives to understand what brings us meaning in life. Here are five steps to create space to aid in identifying your values:

5. Speak your values out loud

1. Grounding/Earthing I have experienced it myself and I hear so many others share a similar experience, that being in nature is healing. Getting our hands into the earth with gardening, walking along the beach, taking a hike, or even lying in the grass brings an almost indescribable sense of well-being. Connecting with the earth’s electrical charge is thought to aid in pain reduction, modulate the immune system, and reduce inflammation. It also can lead to feeling more centered, allowing us to focus on what is most important to us.

There are many benefits to literally speaking our truths and discussing our values out loud with a trusted confidant. Bouncing ideas and having meaningful discussions can help us determine our framework and organize our thinking. Sometimes friends and family may not provide the most objective perspectives and professional counseling or life coaching may be more appropriate, while at other times a friend or family member is the most perfect fit! When we live in alignment with our values, we are honoring ourselves in the most self-loving way. From there, our vibrancy shines to our loved ones, our neighbors and even strangers we see out and about. It becomes not only the best gift you can give yourself, but that of our community. So cheers to 2026, let’s make this the best year yet!

2. Meditation/prayer Setting your intentions in quiet solitude using meditation or prayer provides clarity. Meditation may seem overwhelming, but you can make it simple by not expecting perfection in the process. I suggest finding guided meditations online that grab your attention. Try various guided meditations until you find one that feels right.

3. Exercise In addition to the more obvious benefits of exercise, it temporarily unblocks stagnation thereby creating space for objectivity.

4. Journaling Getting thoughts on paper helps clarify intentions.
