Hello friends,
This is the perfect issue for me to do some bragging! It's our kids and pets issue, and I have both. And then some!
My husband Jim and I have three grown children, two beautiful grandchildren and three sassy cats. The newest member of the family is June Emily Sue Spearman, born June 21. Lucky for me, June and her brother Teddy (5) live just 20 minutes away. How I got this issue to the printer with all that cuteness is a miracle!
Speaking of marvels, my daughter Molly and her partner are moving to Atlanta after too many years in NYC. My son Patrick graduated from GSU in December, and is working in the film industry, living near Old Fourth Ward. How did I get so lucky to have all my kids near the roost? When we are all together, my heart swells.
The cats are Johnny, Tommy and Vito. And yes, they are gangsters, all rescues with big personalities.
I'm so very blessed to have a healthy family, humans who care deeply and are creative.
In this issue, you'll find stories about children and animals and people who are passionate about protecting and nurturing them.
At BuckHaven City Lifestyle, we're all about passion projects and giving back.
Enjoy this issue and do share your photos of the kids and pets in your life who make your heart swell. Tag us on Instagram or Facebook to share the love!
Have a great month and thank you for sharing our journey.
All my best,

“I couldn’t have been happier with my decision to give Absolute Image Consulting a try, it has been by far my favorite place I’ve had over all my years. I find their hair systems to be top notch, the most up to date on the market, as are all the hair products that they offer. I can’t say enough good things about the company and staff.” - Client Testimonial
“My experience at Absolute Image completely changed my life. After suffering from hair loss since college, I’d also lost most of my self esteem and confidence along the way. The quality is truly astounding. They gave me my life back. They have me myself back. My only regret is not choosing this sooner and saving myself all those rough mornings in the mirror. If you’re considering hair replacement - do it.” - Client Testimonial

A park’s BEST FRIEND
ARTICLE BY BETTY HANACEK | PHOTOGRAPHY BY FRIENDS OF PEACHTREE HILLS PARK
The crown jewel of a neighborhood is often a park. In addition to the benefit of green space, parks are a public gathering place for families, friends, and visitors. I moved to my neighborhood of Peachtree Hills nearly 30 years ago. Our community was established in 1912 and our seven acres, known as Peachtree Hills Park, lie at the heart.
Peachtree Hills Park is known for two things: the community garden and a favorite destination for dogs and their families. We are the first City of Atlanta public park to start a community garden. It continues to thrive, and we donate harvests to a nearby food pantry. Even without a dog park, Peachtree Hills is popular among neighbors, their kids, and their dogs.
As a long-time resident and active member of Friends of Peachtree Park, we decided that public art is what the park needed. What started as a single mural installation on the back of the tennis practice wall, turned into a decade-long labor of love across three murals. The mural project’s culmination was recently celebrated with a meet and greet with the artist, the neighbors, and their pets.
Mary Pratt is the artist who illustrated the pets of Peachtree Hills and installed three murals featuring more than 75 dogs, some cats, and one rescue bunny. She characterized the pets with their favorite toy or

hair ornament, while others are depicted with wings or halos to mark their passing. One of our neighbors of more than 50 years, has all five of his dogs featured on the murals. Through donations to Park Pride, neighbors supported the commissioned murals and Mary’s work. The original tennis court mural is among the first in the City of Atlanta Park and the custom pet portraits are uniquely Peachtree Hills.
I asked Mary about this project compared to others. She says, “I have painted murals, and I have painted pet portraits, but I have never created something quite like this. During the process, I met so many neighbors and their pets and their unconditional love is what brought the joy. Collectively, those bonds will shine forever through the murals.”
Editor’s Note: Continuing with its mission to improve the park, The Friends of Peachtree Hills Park have launched a capital campaign to design and build a new playground to replace the 20-year-old one. The new playground will have engaging equipment for all ages and abilities. Included in the project is improved pedestrian, stroller, and bicycle access. The City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation is contributing significant funds from infrastructure bonds, but individual and corporate donations will be essential. JUS T FOR KIDS
ARTICLE BY BUCKHAVEN CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF
PHOTOGRAPHY BY CATMAX
We love beautiful design. And, so do kids. They appreciate careful (and daring) color choices, textured fabrics and thoughtful touches. We asked the pros at Alexis Taylor Interiors for a few favorite looks. Kids’ rooms should grow with them. This room was designed to work for the client until he goes to college. Opposite, a teen wanted a room that felt sophisticated and cool. Black walls seemed risky, but the use of color is a simple way to add a lot of drama.

A Park for Pups
Fetch Park is the trailblazing dogfriendly social hub concept that started in Atlanta.
This off-leash dog park and bar is free for humans to enter and enjoy, and no pup of your own is needed.
Dips Kitchen, which opened last year and serves made-from-scratch dips as meals, has teamed up with Fetch Park to bring its newest location to the dog park bar concept in Buckhead Village. The park has a membership system for dogs ensuring the park is as safe as possible. Entrance to the park for pups ranges from a daily $15 option to monthly and annual memberships. Members will be able to enjoy all Fetch locations under their membership dues. All dogs are required to have up-to-date vaccinations on file (DHLPP – including Lepto, Bordetella, and Rabies) and be spayed or neutered if 8 months of age or older. Pup parents must register their dogs at check-in and sign liability waivers stating their dog is friendly and social. Aggressive dogs will be asked to leave. The BARk has assigned staffers known as Woof Wardens who facilitate safe play.

SCIENCE IS COOL!
New exhibit all about sounds and light at the Children's Museum.
ARTICLE BY BUCKHAVEN CITY LIFESTYLE STAFF
The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is stepping into the future, with the final phase in its Step Up to Science exhibit series, made possible by generous donors to the Bridge to the Future campaign. Entitled “Catch a Wave: A Sound & Light Exhibit,” children can explore the fascinating realms of shadows, light sources, color theory, vibrations and properties of sound. This exhibit offers hands-on activities through a variety of

experiential areas, including the Color Wheel, Colorful Shadows, Laser Table, Touchable Sound, Pixel Pegs, Standing Wave Tube and Prisms. Designed to inspire curiosity and a love for science, the Step Up to Science exhibit is ideal for both kids and kids at heart.
The Color Wheel combines hands-on science with creativity, allowing children and families to create various colors by turning the wheels.
At Colorful Shadows, little ones use materials and can describe them in terms of opaque or transparent, demonstrating how shadows are formed when a light source is blocked by an opaque item.
The Touchable Sound Station gives kids the opportunity to not only hear the sound waves they create and control, but also to touch and see them.
The Standing Wave Tube creates a visual representation of the auditory phenomena of frequency, wavelength and amplitude.
Using tubes, kids observe that as sound is generated, the pressure waves flowing through the tube cause wires to align -- displaying the sound’s waveform.
Finally, the Prisms section displays different shapes and sizes of prisms to help explain the process of light refracting into components - helping children focus on using keywords like spectrum, wavelength and light source.
Visit the museum with kids, grandkids or visiting nieces and nephews. You’ll be the shining star. ChildrensMuseumAtlanta.org

TODD DAE KULPER’S DOG, HARRY, is a Dalmatian mix adopted from a family in Southwest Georgia. His bestie is Zeus, Todd’s ball python, who was adopted from a snake breeder in southeastern Atlanta. Harry likes running around and playing with people and other dogs. He loves taking car rides to visit family. Zeus enjoys watching TV and hanging out around the house and attending social events where he can interact with other people. He’s a major highlight whenever he makes an appearance.
Todd has been cooking professionally for 25 years with a focus on Japanese and French cuisines, including sushi. Todd is currently the executive chef of Umi Modern Japanese in Buckhead. At Umi, Todd is responsible for many of the new signature dishes, including the Chutoro Tataki with Yuzu Wakame Miso Sauce, Crispy Lobster Caviar, Wagyu Carpaccio with Black Truffle and Aged Parmigiano, and the infamous Donut! When not working, he can usually be found either hanging out with his family and pets or on the golf course.
FREDDIE THE CAT was a rescue and came into Steven Satterfield’s life as a 3-month-old kitten with health problems, a healthy appetite and a heaping dose of tenacity. Freddie is a master cuddler, when he wants to be, and is very athletic. He loves to chase a little toy on a string. Some of his favorites are bumble bee, goldfish and mouse. He can jump very high if he’s motivated (like chasing a bug) and he can be chatty when he has something to say. Freddie has tons of personality and he will greet any stranger with his waving tail and a face rub on your legs.
Steven Satterfield is the James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef, cookbook author, and co-owner of Miller Union, a celebrated, seasonally driven restaurant in Atlanta. Steven is deeply committed to the progressive culinary community and holds leadership positions with Slow Food Atlanta and the Atlanta Mayor’s Office Food Waste Advisory Committee. He is also a proud and active member of Georgia Organics, a nonprofit that connects eaters with farmers and restaurants. Steven won the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef: Southeast” award in 2017.

BUCKHAVEN CITY LIFESTYLE: WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE IN CONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENTS?
Trinity School: One of the most rewarding challenges in connecting with our students is embracing and addressing the diverse and individualized needs each student brings to the classroom. We continually strive to adapt our teaching methods to meet those needs, while ensuring all our students feel valued, supported, and understood.
Our program is highly interactive, engaging students in their learning process, an interactive approach that allows faculty to facilitate and observe student independence, confidence, and social-emotional development.
HOW DO YOU HELP STUDENTS LEARN THE ART OF BALANCE?
We prioritize helping students achieve a healthy balance between school, friends, activities, chill time, and family. We do not assign homework before fourth grade. For students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grades, homework is targeted and purposeful, designed to reinforce learning and build the habit of responsibility for schoolwork without overwhelming them. Students have extracurricular choices that reinforce a healthy balance of play and academics. These activities help students develop new skills, foster friendships, and enjoy their leisure time.
Trinity School offers robust parent education programming that supports families in maintaining a healthy balance between play and academics.
