Here we stand two years later and we’re still in awe of every issue and proud of how far we have come. We lived through a pandemic and managed to not only survive, but also thrive. We are growing every month and are committed to telling the stories of the community in both an uplifting and entertaining manner. Is there a story that you want to see told? Don’t hesitate to reach out. This is your magazine, Bridgewater! This issue is dedicated to some of our cutest residents. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from living in Bridgewater, it’s that we sure do love our pets! Over 100 dogs were entered in our Cover Model Contest on social media. We received a bit of backlash for not being inclusive of cats. We promise to right that wrong next year!

OAKLEIGH THE CAVAPOO (PART CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL,

PART POODLE) WAS VOTED BY OUR FOLLOWERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS PET OF THE YEAR TO THE DELIGHT OF HER LOVING FAMILY KARI, SEAN, BEN AND MORGAN ANDERSEN OF BRANCHBURG. Oakleigh was welcomed into this happy family on June 18, 2020 thanks to a persuasive PowerPoint presentation made by Morgan (12) and Ben (11). The children spent a lot of time toward the beginning of pandemic researching small, hypoallergenic dogs before finding the Cavapoo breed and convincing their parents to let them get one. Oakleigh was born in April 2020 at Lone Pine Acres Farm in Jonestown, Pa., and was adopted by the Andersens from the McFeaters family, who own the farm, when she was 8 weeks old. Oakleigh is a sweet little dog that enjoys making new friends with other

dogs and children. The family calls her a “Velcro Dog,” because she loves to follow her family around the house. Some of her favorite activities are watching Morgan and Ben play sports, going on playdates, snuggling with her family (“cozies”) and sleeping. Oakleigh is the perfect family dog, and the Andersens can’t imagine life without her. “I don’t know how we got so lucky,” Kari says. “She’s so good.”

WHEN IT COMES TO OWNING A PET, IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING IT’S IMPORTANT TO TREAT THEM RIGHT. At Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming in Bridgewater, that means giving them treats that are as nourishing as they are delicious. “We’re big believers in offering healthy food and treats. Dogs are part of the family, just like kids,” says Ketna Patel, who owns Woof Gang with her husband, Mehul (along with Chewy, their Maltipoo) and has resided in Bridgewater for over 13 years. “You want to be sure they’re eating healthy so they can live a healthy life.” Patel explains that just like with people, improper nutrition can lead to health issue later in life. “It’s important to provide good choices for your dog from the very start so they don’t have medical issues later on,” she says. “Like humans, they can develop digestive issues and allergies from an improper diet.” Patel advises pet owners to read ingredient labels to be sure the first ingredients are actual proteins rather than a protein meal or filler, which aren’t as nutritious. “We offer raw, freeze-dried and high-quality, five-star rated dry and wet food,” she says. The Patels go above and beyond to source food, treats and products that fit the bill, such as toys made from recyclable materials, products from U.S. companies and fresh bakery items made from all natural, human-grade ingredients. They also offer all natural, hypoallergenic and medicated shampoos in their grooming services.

WOOF GANG BAKERY AND GROOMING SERVES UP MORE THAN TASTY TREATS

Mehul and Ketna Patel, With Chewie, Owners of Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming

Dogs are welcome to stroll the aisles with their owners to sniff out their favorites. In the bakery, popular choices include their pumpkin soft treats and cupcakes with sugar-free peanut butter icing. Owners also can pick up baked treats, birthday cupcakes, cookies and cakes to celebrate their pet’s big day. “Bridgewater has a wonderful dog scene,” Patel says. “We’re seeing a lot of new dog owners and many we’ve known since they were puppies. It’s both a dog and family-friendly town and we’re so happy to support that community.” Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming sponsored Bridgewater Lifestyle’s Pet Cover Photo Contest. CULINARY CREATIONS (CONTINUED)

Woof Gang Bakery Peanut Butter Dog Treat + 2 ½ cups water + 2 ½ cups natural peanut butter + 2 tbsp blackstrap molasses + 1 ½ tbsp canola oil + 8 cups whole wheat flour

Combine water, peanut butter, molasses and canola oil in a mixing bowl. Slowly add flour and mix on low speed until all ingredients are combined and dough forms. In small batches, turn the dough out onto a kitchen surface. Roll dough batch out to 3/8” thickness. Cut out treats with a cookie cutter—whatever fun shapes your dog likes best! Place treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet. To help reduce air bubbles, poke some tiny holes in the treats and cover with an empty baking sheet. Bake at 325° F convection for 20 to 25 minutes. After the first 15 minutes, flip treats over and bake uncovered for another 5 to 10 minutes, until thoroughly baked. For more crispy results, place treats in a warm oven for up to an hour to allow moisture to evaporate. Remove cooled treats from the oven and let your pup enjoy!

Kids on the climbing wall are challenged by targets that keep the play interesting, says Mina, who notes that ClubAir is one of only three parks in the United States with this wall. Also unique is the WallRider, which will have you bouncing on Olympic trampolines on your back and aiming your feet at flashing, interactive wall targets. Part gymnastics, part parkour, the game will jumpstart your heart rate as you develop skills and raise the difficulty level. As Mina says, “It’s addictive.” ClubAir caters to all ages and skill levels, elevating traditional activities such as basketball, volleyball and dodgeball with an interactive, competitive twist. For example, Dodge Attack and Volley Attack feature targets above and on the side of the court that light up when struck to score points. “This is great for kids with special needs and sensory challenges who would not be comfortable being hit with a ball,” Mina says. “They can aim at targets instead.” Adults can get in on the action, too. “We get a lot of requests for adult nights,” Mina says. “Come out during our Glow Nights when you can wear clothes that glow and bounce underneath a UV light, laser lights, hazers and plenty of dynamic light features. It’s really cool.” Check out the cutting-edge attractions at clubair.fun. 34

Sounding It Out BAYLES FAMILY SPEECH CENTER OF BRIDGEWATER HELPS CHILDREN AND ADULTS IMPROVE THEIR COMMUNICATION SKILLS THROUGH SPEECH THERAPY AND PERSONALIZED CARE

SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST DENISE BAYLES, OWNER OF BAYLES FAMILY SPEECH CENTER IN BRIDGEWATER, SERVES CLIENTS OF ALL AGES, BUT PRIMARILY WORKS WITH CHILDREN. When Bayles first opened her practice 14 years ago, her slogan was “Where you’re always treated like family,” a core value she has continued to embrace during her 26-year career. Here, Bayles discusses her work and what parents should consider if they suspect their child requires professional assistance. WHAT IS SPEECH THERAPY? Speech therapists are communication specialists. There are many different facets of speech therapy, ranging from providing general support for people who can’t say their sounds to assisting with regaining language skills after a traumatic event, such as a stroke or brain injury. Speech therapy also deals with the social aspect of language. WHAT ARE SOME SIGNS THAT COULD INDICATE A CHILD HAS A SPEECH ISSUE? Not meeting developmental milestones when they
