THE TIMELESS BEAUTY OF
SAPPHIRE
Elegant, enduring, and endlessly captivating, sapphire is one of the world’s most treasured gemstones. A member of the corundum family, sapphire ranks an impressive 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it one of nature’s most durable precious stones. While its iconic deep blue hue has long symbolized loyalty, wisdom, and nobility, sapphire reveals itself in a remarkable spectrum of colors. From delicate pinks and golden yellows to vivid greens and romantic violets, sapphires can be found in nearly every color of the rainbow, with one exception: red. Red corundum earns a name all its own, ruby. A September Treasure, Sapphire is the celebrated birthstone of September, cherished for both its beauty and timeless significance. Sapphire & Ruby, Though dramatically different in appearance, sapphires and rubies are actually sister gemstones, both formed from the same mineral: corundum. Rare & Remarkable, Among the most coveted is the Padparadscha sapphire, an exceptionally rare pinkish-orange variety whose name is inspired by the delicate color of the lotus blossom. A Natural Transformation, Some extraordinary sapphires possess the ability to change color under different lighting, shifting from shades of blue to violet and revealing yet another side of their beauty.
More than a gemstone, sapphire is a celebration of color, rarity, and enduring elegance.

LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Style Issue Style is such an extraordinary part of life. It’s far more than the clothes we wear or the accessories we choose. Style is woven into every detail of our existence, from the way we decorate our homes to the art and music we enjoy, the books we read, and even how we interact with the world around us. It’s the unique thread that creates the tapestry of who we are. What makes style so captivating is its deeply personal nature. It evolves alongside us as we explore new interests, embrace our quirks, and express what we value most. It’s a language without words, a powerful tool for connection that can bridge differences and spark shared understanding. Here in Brentwood, we’re fortunate to have endless opportunities to celebrate and explore style. Whether it’s through visiting local boutiques, supporting creative entrepreneurs, or simply drawing inspiration from our city’s vibrant culture, there’s so much to ignite your creativity and lift your spirit. This month, I encourage you to think of style as an authentic expression of yourself. The most beautiful style is one that reflects who you truly are: your passions, your story, your individuality. And the incredible thing is that no one else in the world can replicate that. So go ahead, celebrate your unique style. Whether you’re exploring new trends, blending classic elements, or creating something entirely original, let this issue inspire you to embrace the power of self-expression. Here’s to being unapologetically and uniquely you! Cheers!

ASK DR. RAHM
The Science of Staying Well HEALTHY HABITS NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE. As school, work, sports, travel, and more time indoors become part of the fall routine, staying healthy becomes a priority for many families. Scientist, inventor, and mother of four Dr. Christina Rahm shares the principles that guide both her research and her own family’s approach to wellness.
does it seem like everyone gets sick at the Q : Why same time once fall arrives? Dr. Rahm: Every fall, several things happen at once. We spend more time indoors, our schedules become busier, and many of the healthy routines that keep us feeling our best become less consistent. It’s usually not one thing that affects how we feel. It’s the accumulation of small choices over time. That’s why I always encourage people to prepare before seasonal challenges begin instead of waiting until they’re already sick.
we still get all the nutrients we need from Q : Can food alone? Dr. Rahm: I wish we could. That would always be my first choice. But our food supply has changed. Soil health, food processing, long transportation times, and the pace of modern life all make it harder to consistently get optimal nutrition from food alone. That’s one of the reasons I’ve spent so much of my career formulating high-quality products designed to help fill nutritional gaps. They should work alongside a nutrient-rich diet, helping provide the nutrients that can be difficult to get consistently from food alone. That’s one of the reasons I’ve spent so much of my career formulating high-quality products designed to help fill nutritional gaps.
Q:
What’s one healthy habit you believe more people should prioritize?
Dr. Rahm: Protecting your peace. We spend a lot of time thinking about what we put into our bodies, but we don’t spend nearly enough time thinking about what we allow into our lives. The people we surround ourselves with, the conversations we engage in, the information we consume, and the environments we choose all have an impact on our health. As a scientist, I understand how chronic stress affects the body. Personally, I’ve become much more intentional about protecting my own peace by choosing what deserves my energy and what doesn’t. Supporting your immune system isn’t about one decision. It’s the result of the choices you make every day, from nutrition and stress management to the products you choose to complement a healthy lifestyle.

And despite being just a short drive from incredible local attractions, you don’t even have to leave the resort to find your peace. Welcome to Cloudland at McLemore Resort, the weekend getaway you deserve right atop Lookout Mountain in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Cloudland at McLemore Resort carries a rich history, one that’s honored throughout the property. It dates back more than two hundred years to a Scottish immigrant named McLemore, who married a Cherokee woman – their legacy still reflected today in the resort’s symbols and the tartan designs found throughout its halls. Though it only opened in May 2024, the resort has already made a name for itself, earning widespread attention and accolades along the way. “There is nothing more beautiful,” said Mike Burton, managing director of Cloudland at McLemore Resort. “It’s a unique place, and everything is geared towards being one with the land. Everything is thoughtfully designed with the view in mind, which is by far one of our strongest assets.” While the captivating views may be what first catches a guest’s eye, it’s the warmth of the staff and fellow guests that keeps them coming back. Guests can enjoy two complimentary beverages per night during happy hour, join a guided morning yoga session every Saturday, and take part in a rotating lineup of monthly activities. “The people that work here are what sets us apart,” said Burton. “They are by far some of the most friendly, kind human beings I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. They care for our guests and each other, which makes the entire experience more enjoyable.” Later, enjoy some friendly competition on the pickleball or tennis courts, take a dip in the cliffside infinity pool, or prioritize a little self-care with a visit to Selah Spa, where massages, facials, body treatments, hydrotherapy, saunas, and a deluge shower invite complete relaxation. Those looking to stay active can also take advantage of the 24-hour fitness center, complete with CONTINUED >

a Peloton studio. Afterward, grab a drink and bite at Skyside, just one of the several exceptional dining options on property. Sip a coffee at the Pocket Cafe, savor a memorable sit-down meal at laidback American concept Croft, or dine at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Auld Alliance. Named for the historic pact between the kingdoms of Scotland and France, this upscale concept serves a French- and Scottish-inspired menu that celebrates the culinary traditions and shared history of both cultures. “There’s no two travelers looking for exactly the same experience,” said Mike. “It could be going to the spa and having just an exquisite time, having that sense of renewal and relaxation, or it could be having the best meal you’ve ever had in your life. Perhaps you played the best round of golf on one of our two 18-hole courses. At Cloudland, it could be so many different things.” Also a perfect destination for golf enthusiasts, Cloudland has already made its mark on the golf world. The Keep at McLemore Resort, the property’s 18-hole course, has earned notable national accolades since opening, including Sports Illustrated’s “Best New Course” and Golf Digest’s runner-up designation for “Best New Public Course in America” in 2025, as well as a No. 25 debut on Golfweek’s “Top 200 Resort Courses in the U.S.” for 2026. “I’m most proud of the memories we create for our guests because it’s really what it’s all about,” said Mike. Cloudland at McLemore Resort proves that true escape can be more than just a place. Whether chasing relaxation, adventure, or a little of both, this mountaintop retreat is ready to welcome you with open arms. I’ve always believed that what you wear has the power to change how you feel. Fashion has always been so much more than clothing to me—it’s a form of self-expression, creativity, and confidence. Growing up, I was naturally drawn to bold colors, unique pieces, and outfits that made a statement. I loved experimenting with style and seeing how the right outfit could completely transform the way someone can feel and how it could make them carry themselves. Over time, that passion grew into a career, and now I have the privilege of helping clients feel like the best version of themselves, whether they’re stepping onto a stage or simply getting dressed for everyday life. My goal is never to change who someone is, but to help them discover a style that feels authentic and gives them confidence. Whether someone lives in neutrals or loves bold color as much as I do, I want fashion to feel fun, approachable, and empowering—while maybe encouraging them to step just a little outside their comfort zone.
Tell me about your journey as a stylist. My journey started with saying yes to every opportunity I could. I learned by being hands-on—assisting, organizing, pulling looks, and experiencing every part of the styling process. Working in Nashville has given me the opportunity to style artists, collaborate on photo shoots, and see firsthand how much preparation goes into creating a look that feels effortless. Those experiences taught me that styling isn’t just about fashion; it’s about understanding someone’s personality, lifestyle, and goals, then translating that into a wardrobe that feels authentic to them. One of my favorite parts of styling is introducing clients to pieces they would have never picked for themselves. Seeing someone light up because they tried a color, silhouette, or trend they never thought they could wear is incredibly rewarding. Fashion should be exciting, not intimidating.

Nashville’s fashion scene has been evolving for years. What has this transformation looked like from where you are standing? Nashville has become so much more fashion-forward while still staying true to its roots. There’s still a strong love for Western influence, but now it’s being mixed with luxury fashion, vintage pieces, bold colors, street style, and elevated tailoring. What I love most is that people are embracing personal style over fitting into one specific aesthetic. You can walk down the street and see vintage, luxury, Western, and modern fashion all existing together. People aren’t afraid to experiment, and that creativity is what makes the city so inspiring. Nashville has found this incredible balance between classic Southern style and a more expressive, fashion-forward approach, making it such an exciting place for both creatives and everyday shoppers. Tell me about your favorite local spots to shop at in Nashville! What makes them stand out to you? Hero will always be one of my favorites because every visit feels inspiring. Their mix of emerging designers and unexpected pieces encourages people to have fun with fashion and step outside the ordinary. Sézane is where I go for beautifully made wardrobe staples that never go out of style. Their pieces have that effortless quality that works season after season. Ensemble Consignment Boutique is one of my favorite places to discover unique, elevated pieces with personality. I love that it feels like a treasure hunt, you never know what designer gem or statement piece you’ll find. It’s the perfect spot for clients who want to build a wardrobe that feels curated, personal, and anything but ordinary. Star Struck Vintage is my go-to when I’m looking for a piece with personality. Their curated vintage collection is full of incredible denim, statement jackets, boots, and one-of-a-kind finds that instantly make an outfit feel special. It’s the perfect place to discover something no one else will be wearing.
What is one fashion rule everyone should follow? Wear what makes you feel confident—not what you think you’re “supposed” to wear. My biggest fashion rule is to stop saying, “I’m just not someone who can wear that.” Most of the time, you absolutely can; you just haven’t found the right version of it yet. The most stylish people aren’t the ones who follow every trend; they’re the ones who understand what makes them feel their best and wear it with confidence. Personal style should always come before trends. Fashion should evolve with you, and the best style happens when you’re willing to experiment, try something new, and step just a little outside your comfort zone while still feeling like yourself.

Have you noticed any exciting fall fashion trends? I’m excited to see rich shades like chocolate brown, burgundy, olive, and deep navy continue into fall, but I’m especially loving how people are styling them. Color blocking is making a big comeback in a fresh, elevated way, and I love mixing unexpected color combinations that feel bold but still sophisticated. We’re also seeing more menswear-inspired tailoring paired with feminine pieces…think an oversized blazer with a silky slip skirt or a structured trouser styled with delicate lace or a romantic blouse.
Anything else you want to mention? One thing I always hope people remember is that great style isn’t about having the biggest wardrobe or buying the most
expensive clothes; it’s about understanding what makes you feel confident and creating a closet that reflects who you are. I want people to know that style doesn’t have to fit into one box. I love color, bold pieces, and playful fashion, but my approach is always about the person in front of me. My job isn’t to dress everyone like me, it’s to help each client discover what makes them feel their best. Sometimes that’s a closet full of timeless neutrals, and sometimes it’s a bright pink fur jacket. Either way, I want getting dressed to feel exciting, personal, and empowering again. Fashion should feel fun and approachable, and if I’ve helped someone feel more like themselves, then I’ve done my job. Your wardrobe should reflect your personality, not just the latest trend. @lexieskipp

HOW TENTHIRTYFIVE IS RESTORING CONFIDENCE ONE SHOPPING TRIP AT A TIME ARTICLE BY MARY BELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSICA MCCINTOSH

I NSP IR E D BY | L I FE + C ULT U RE
What begins as a shopping trip often becomes something much more at TenThirtyFive. The Middle Tennessee nonprofit provides young women facing difficult circumstances with an uplifting shopping experience. Through referrals from community partner organizations, participants receive a shopping voucher to choose clothing for school, work, or everyday life. They also leave with brand-new undergarments, beauty products, and a handwritten note reminding them of their worth. The goal is not simply to fill a closet. It is to help restore confidence. For founder Angie, that mission has been years in the making. After graduating from college, she worked for a juvenile court judge, where she noticed a pattern among many of the young women coming through the system. “I saw a lot of girls making the same choices that I realized I had made in middle school and high school,” she said. “It began a passion to serve the youth during that particular season of life.” Although the calling stayed with her, the idea for TenThirtyFive did not take shape until years later while she was a stay-at-home mom. During a conversation with a friend, she realized clothing could become the bridge to encouragement and hope. The organization launched in 2019 with a mobile boutique that traveled to partner organizations. What started with just two community partners has grown into two storefront locations and partnerships with approximately 52 organizations across Middle Tennessee. The nonprofit’s name comes from Hebrews 10:35-36, a passage that has guided its mission from the beginning.
“It says, ‘Do not throw away your confidence, for it will be richly rewarded,’” Angie said. “It is a reminder to put your hope and identity in Christ.” Today, every shopping appointment is designed to feel welcoming and dignified. Women arrive at one of TenThirtyFive’s upscale thrift stores, where they watch a short video reminding them of their worth before shopping. In addition to receiving free bras, underwear and socks, each participant is given a shopping voucher that stretches far thanks to the store’s affordable prices. Some visitors even experience “Makeover Monday,” where volunteer stylists, including several Nashville-based celebrity stylists, help them select outfits while treating them to lunch. “They’re going to be able to shop. Sometimes we have something called Makeover Monday, so they get a personal stylist, and they get lunch. It’s so fun,” Angie said. Young women are referred through organizations already serving them, including Youth Villages, the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee, the Office of Family Safety and other community partners supporting women experiencing foster care, domestic violence, addiction recovery and other life challenges. While many women arrive feeling shy or uncertain, Angie says the transformation by the end of their visit is unmistakable. “I think the difference is definitely confidence when they leave, which is the ultimate goal,” she said. “Some people don’t realize what the difference a good outfit is going to make until they’ve picked it out and are thinking about how they’re going to wear it.” CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . One participant’s journey has remained especially meaningful. After overcoming addiction, she eventually returned, not as a shopper but as a staff member. “We were able to see her go from soon after active addiction to thriving,” Angie said. “She had a full-time job and then a parttime job with us. Being able to see her every day and then watch her encourage other women experiencing the same things was really special.” As TenThirtyFive continues to grow, the need remains greater than ever. “The need in Nashville is huge,” Angie said. “It never seems to be enough. We hate turning away people, but even now we still have to.”

Looking ahead, the nonprofit hopes to expand through an affiliate model, allowing communities across the country to launch their own TenThirtyFive locations. The first affiliate has already opened in Wasaga Beach, Canada, with interest growing from cities including Atlanta and Dallas. For those wondering how to help, Angie says the answer may already be hanging in their closet. “Everything that we have is donated,” she said. “We all have something within our means to be able to help our neighbor. It could be the outfit that’s sitting in your closet that’s not being worn.” @tenthirtyfivenashville tenthirtyfive.net

When it comes to fashion, Laura Citron proves that true style begins with confidence. Blending her Louisiana roots with vintage-inspired maximalist glamour, Laura celebrates bold colors, rich textures, and pieces that are equally as charming as they are timeless. From Mardi Gras style to festivals and parades, Laura’s fascination with fashion came at a very young age.

“My mom was a fabulous pack rat who kept all of her '70s lamè jumpsuits, so to me, her closet was like Narnia,” Laura explains. “It resonated so deeply with me… I would invite my friends over, dress them up, and put on mini fashion shows for my mom and her friends. It just always spoke to me.” While her passion for fashion was evident, it wasn’t until she was older that she realized she could truly make it into a career. After graduating high school, Laura attended Louisiana State University and studied broadcast journalism with a minor in fashion—simply because she loved it. At the time, her cousin was a producer in Los Angeles and invited her to come out for the
summer to see if she liked the entertainment side of broadcast journalism. Before she knew it, she was working on The Tyra Banks Show and, eventually, found her way to the wardrobe team. Once her magical summer came to an end, she was more inspired than ever and decided it was New York City or bust. She transferred to the Fashion Institute of Technology, following her intuition that the fashion industry was where she belonged. “It was a scary decision, but the scariest thing, to me, is always not trying. I fell in love with the city and the fashion,” Laura shares. “I met so many people, and found so many different facets of the fashion industry. I was a stylist, a buyer, a trend forecaster, CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/BR E N T WO O D

but one of my most passionate roles was managing a vintage store there, and it brought me back to my roots of my mom's closet.“ Laura's other half, Andrew Clancey, is a renowned fashion designer and the owner of Any Old Iron—a British-inspired boutique known for its bold, rock-and-roll aesthetic. Founded in Manhattan in 2010, he and Laura noticed a steady stream of stylists visiting from Nashville who all expressed the same sentiment: they needed more distinctive fashion options. This inspired them to bring Any Old Iron to Nashville. Andrew proposed the idea to Laura that she could open a vintage shop of her own in the space behind his boutique. By 2014, the two were packed up for Nashville, where Andrew opened Any Old Iron and Laura opened the doors to Opium Vintage. “The vintage pieces were becoming a little bit harder and harder to find,” she recalls. “We were working with the stylists here, and they were telling us what they were looking for, so [Andrew] came across a manufacturer and started making a few sequin jackets, and those really took off. He said, ‘Well, why don't you pull out your favorite vintage elements and make a little collection and see how that does?’ So I started designing with my favorite vintage elements and little by little, the stylists started using them too.”

Over the past twelve years, Laura has continued to evoke eclectic nostalgia of decades past with a reimagined vision for a modern world. Her label has been seen on numerous red carpets and award show stages on notable musicians including Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town, Lauren Alaina, Jennifer Nettles, and Greta Van Fleet, among others. She has also shown her collections in over forty fashion shows across ten cities in the United States, and one internationally in Australia at Melbourne Fashion Festival. In 2023, she won Charleston Fashion Week's Emerging Designer Competition and was later featured on The Tamron Hall Show's Up & Coming Designer series, where she was mentored by renowned fashion designer Michael Kors. While her professional achievements continue to grow, what inspires Laura most is the opportunity to make a difference through her work. In the past, she has participated in fashion shows benefitting incredible organizations including the American Cancer Society, Nashville Humane Society, Dress for Success, Faith + Wildflowers, the Bridge, and more. In addition, Laura is a board member of the Nashville-based non-profit, Fashion Is For Every Body—an organization that produces an annual inclusive fashion show celebrating models of all sizes, races, ages, disabilities, and more. This November, she will be

showcasing her collection at New Orleans Fashion Week before participating in Fleur de Bra, a costumed fashion show that celebrates breast cancer survivors and raises funds for breast cancer patients. For Laura, fashion is fantasy, and her goal is to create a world filled with color, sparkle, and fun where everyone can feel happy, confident, and fabulous! “I always say that if you appreciate art or fashion or interior design, it's all the same language, it’s just using different tools,” Laura explains. “I appreciate all those things, but I chose fashion because if you have a beautiful piece of art on your wall that you admire, it's amazing, but once you leave your house, you leave that piece. Whereas what you wear on your body, you get to choose who you want to be that day—it's a little moving piece of art with a message that stays with you throughout the entire day.” One of Laura’s design philosophies is dopamine dressing: the scientific theory that wearing a bright, happy color or seeing someone in a bright, happy color gives you a pop of dopamine. When she’s having a bad day, she loves tricking her brain with the use of colors—whether it’s a hot pink dress or a statement purse, she always feels better than she started! Fashion is more than just the clothes you wear—it is a lifestyle.

Even if it’s something small, just one little bit of color helps you dip your toe into exploring your style without feeling too uncomfortable in doing so. “I have people that say, ‘I love all of your pieces, I just wish I had somewhere to wear them too.’ My response to that is life is the occasion! Being alive is the occasion,” she shares. “[I love] taking a situation that is super mundane and turning it into something fun, just by what you wear. Like a Tuesday night, nothing's going on… let’s go put on a fun dress and heels and sit at a bar and have a glass of champagne.” For Laura, Nashville has been more than a home—it has been a source of inspiration and a place that introduced her to a community that has joyfully embraced her creativity and passion. Music City’s growing fashion scene—and unique blend of individuality, creativity, and Southern charm—has inspired her to embrace the idea that fashion is more than just what we wear, it’s a reflection of who we are. “It’s about wearing what makes you feel your best, and that's what's so great about fashion—it’s about being able to give yourself a little bit of confidence, and give someone a little sneak peek of who you are before you even open your mouth,” Laura shares. In addition to its downtown location on 4th Avenue, Laura Citron's collections will also be available inside Any Old Iron's second location on Magazine Street in New Orleans, opening this month. The expansion reflects the brand's mission to offer distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces to the city's stylish locals while creating custom designs for Mardi Gras, galas, balls, and the countless celebrations that make New Orleans so unique. TWO FURNISHED MODEL HOMES NOW OPEN FOR TOURS
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
In an era when genuine connections are becoming increasingly rare, the Fairington community is being thoughtfully designed and built around one key concept: belonging. Nestled among the rolling hills of Nolensville, just 30 minutes south of Nashville, this new master-planned community from award-winning developer Southern Land Company is taking shape one front porch at a time. At its heart, Fairington is designed to create meaningful connections and everyday opportunities for engagement, brought to life through beautiful gathering spaces, curated experiences, and a dedicated Lifestyle Manager focused on bringing neighbors together. Prospective homebuyers can now experience Fairington firsthand by touring two professionally furnished model homes, offering an immersive look at the craftsmanship, architecture, and community taking shape there.
A CLUB-CENTERED LIFESTYLE, WOVEN INTO EVERYDAY LIFE
At the center of Fairington are The Residents’ Club and Village Commons, which will introduce a gathering place designed to enrich everyday life through connection, wellness, dining, recreation, and robust programming. Scheduled to open later this year, the Residents’ Club will be the social and cultural heart of the community, where residents can move easily from morning fitness to afternoon recreation to evening gatherings with neighbors and friends. On a typical evening, that vacation-inspired lifestyle reveals itself in simple ways. A few neighbors linger on the clubhouse porch as the sun begins to set. Children run playfully between the lawn and the pool. Someone arrives for a wine tasting and stays for the conversation that follows. Nothing staged. Nothing forced. Just the natural rhythm of people enjoying their community. CONTINUED >

“Each community is designed with people at the forefront, and every detail is meant to shape how homeowners and families live within it.” Mornings may begin with a walk to the fitness studio, coffee at the Residents’ Club, or a wellness class. Afternoons unfold with a pickleball match, a yoga session, lounging poolside beneath a canopy of trees, or a workshop that brings neighbors together around a shared interest. Evenings bring people back to the event lawn and around the fire pit, where neighbors gather to embrace a lifestyle centered on wellness, recreation, and belonging. This is not an amenity layered onto the neighborhood. It is the crown jewel of Fairington itself. The Residents’ Club is designed for connections on every level. It is where everyday moments begin to feel shared. A place where a book club meets, creativity flows in the art room, a concert draws neighbors together, and seasonal celebrations become traditions. A dedicated Lifestyle Manager curates a year-round calendar of experiences, from wellness programs and creative workshops to culinary gatherings, holiday festivities, family activities, and social mixers. While each event is designed to entertain, every program is intended to help residents meet, engage, and feel at home. The result is a close-knit neighborhood where friendships flourish and community is woven into daily life.
DESIGNED WITH INTENTION, BUILT FOR BELONGING
Fairington is the newest master-planned community from Southern Land Company, the nationally recognized, full-service developer behind Westhaven in Franklin and several of the region’s most celebrated neighborhoods. Their approach is consistent. Each community is designed with people at the forefront, and every detail is meant to shape how homeowners and families live within it. You see it in the homes: timeless architecture, deep front porches that invite conversation, light-filled interiors, open layouts for gathering, and quiet corners that offer a sense of retreat. Each home at Fairington is built by the developer’s homebuilding arm, SLC Homes. You feel it in the streets: garages set behind homes, landscaping that softens each edge, and ample lighting that provides a sense of security. You notice it in the way the neighborhood comes together, with planners, architects, and horticulturists working as one team to create a destination that is cohesive, walkable, and enduring. Every element works together to create a vibrant sense of connection and belonging.
A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT GROWS WITH YOU
Fairington has been planned with a clear understanding that life changes. Homes range from townhomes and cottages to larger single-family residences, offering flexibility for different stages and priorities. For some, it is a beginning. For others, a shift toward something more connected and simplified. For many residents, Fairington also answers a deeply personal question: how to simplify without moving away from family, activities, or a sense of place. Located in Williamson County, this area offers the opportunity to live closer to adult children and grandchildren, making everyday visits, school programs, family dinners, and weekends together part of daily life. Life at Fairington doesn't require sacrificing comfort or location. It is centered on choosing a home where memories can be made, maintenance isn't overwhelming, and connection, wellness, convenience, and family are easily accessible. At the center of it all, the Village Commons will bring daily life closer to home. Planned cafés, neighborhood retail, and gathering spaces will create a natural extension of the club lifestyle, giving residents more reasons to engage and connect with visitors from greater Middle Tennessee. A future on-site Williamson County elementary school adds another layer of connection and convenience, allowing children to safely walk or bike to school. Fairington brings together qualities that are increasingly difficult to find in one community: walkability, thoughtful design, access to nature, a shared social center, curated programming, wellness, flexible home options for rightsizing, and proximity to Nolensville, Franklin, Brentwood, and Nashville.
A COMMUNITY COMING TO LIFE
Fairington is no longer simply a vision for what a neighborhood can be. It's becoming a place where new friendships form on front porches, traditions take root around shared experiences, and wellness in daily life is more attainable through easy connections to people and place, including the children, grandchildren, and neighbors who make the community unique. With new homes under construction and two furnished model homes now open, visitors can experience firsthand how Fairington is coming to life. To learn more about Fairington, visit Fairingtontn.com or visit the sales team at 2235 McFarlin Rd., Nolensville, TN 37135.

WHERE NASHVILLE'S HISTORY MEETS
Modern Romance AT ELM NASHVILLE A 166-year-old landmark gets new life as a wedding venue
ARTICLE BY MARY BELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSICA VAN AND TABITHA TURNER

Some wedding venues are beautiful. Others tell a story. At ELM, couples find both. Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, ELM occupies the former Elm Street Methodist Church, a landmark built in 1860 and thoughtfully restored as one of the city’s newest event venues. Today, the restored church hosts weddings, celebrations and corporate gatherings while retaining the architectural character and history that make it distinctive. For co-owner Genie Lee, restoring the building meant preserving an important piece of Nashville’s past while creating a space designed for the city’s future. “I’m a Nashville native and grew up in Brentwood,” Genie said. “I have always loved historic buildings and the stories they carry. ELM brought together
“Nashville has changed tremendously, and we have lost many buildings that once helped tell the city’s story,” Genie said. “We saw an opportunity to preserve one of those places and give it a new purpose. The goal was never to erase its history, but to ensure that its story could continue.” Bringing the 166-year-old structure back to life was not without challenges. Unexpected discoveries surfaced during nearly every phase of construction, requiring the team to balance historic preservation with the functionality and technology of a modern event venue. “With a building this old, you can’t approach the renovation with a rigid plan,” Andrew said. “The building reveals things as you go, and you have to be willing to adapt and find solutions that respect what is already there.” Today, ELM blends historic architecture with contemporary design. Original architectural details are paired with a clean, editorial-inspired aesthetic that feels elevated while remaining warm, inviting and approachable. The result is a venue with a strong identity that still gives each couple the freedom to make it their own. ELM accommodates up to 350 guests and can host everything from intimate ceremonies and elegant receptions to corporate functions, live music performances and private events. Its flexible spaces, private Loft Suite and abundant natural light allow couples to hold multiple parts of their wedding day under one roof. The venue also offers something rarely found in downtown Nashville: convenient, on-site parking. CONTINUED >
that appreciation for preservation with the opportunity to create a beautiful, meaningful place for people to gather.” Genie and her business partner, Andrew Tuttle, a Brentwood resident, undertook the transformation of the historic church into a modern event venue. From their first walkthrough, they shared a clear vision for what the building could become. “We knew from the beginning that we wanted the building itself to be part of the experience,” Andrew said. “Clients shouldn’t have to transform the space before it feels special. The history, architecture and natural beauty are already here.” The venue’s character begins with the building itself. Originally constructed as Elm Street Methodist Church, it is Nashville’s last remaining Italianate-style church. During the Civil War, the building served as a hospital. Thomas Ryman, who later built the Ryman Auditorium, worshipped there before constructing one of the city’s most iconic music venues. The property later became home to Nashville architecture firm Tuck-Hinton before beginning its newest chapter as ELM.

“We have 64 gated parking spaces on-site, which is incredibly rare for a downtown Nashville venue,” Genie said. “It may not be the first thing a couple thinks about when choosing a venue, but it has a real effect on the guest experience.” Since opening, ELM has quickly become one of Nashville’s hidden gems, with much of its growth fueled by wordof-mouth recommendations. The venue has also reconnected many Nashvillians with a building they remember from its earlier chapters. For Genie, some of the most meaningful moments come when couples experience the space for the first time. “There is a moment during a tour when a couple stops looking at the building and begins imagining their wedding here,” Genie said. “You can see them picturing the ceremony, the reception and the people they love filling the room. Knowing those memories could begin here is incredibly rewarding.” As Nashville continues to grow, Genie and Andrew hope ELM becomes known not only as a wedding venue, but also as a place that honors the city’s history while embracing its future.
“Our hope is that ELM becomes a place people see as authentically Nashville,” Genie said. “Not simply because it is located downtown, but because it reflects something genuine about the city: its history, its creativity and its ability to evolve without forgetting what came before.” For couples walking through ELM’s doors for the first time, Genie hopes the venue feels both distinctive and meaningful. “I want couples to feel that they have found a place with real character,” she said. “ELM already has a remarkable story. Their wedding becomes an opportunity to add a new chapter to it.” @elmnashville elmnashville.com

“A well-priced Brentwood home goes under contract in a couple of weeks.” Nashville in 2011, he not only fell in love with the city, but with a whole new career. “I’d spend Saturdays driving through neighborhoods just to see what was being built,” he says. “My wife Vanessa will tell you I’ve always been the guy who reads property records for fun. At some point it dawned on me that real estate was already my hobby, so in 2014 I got licensed and made it official.” Patrick was also inspired to establish himself in the industry after watching friends and family struggle with real estate transactions. “I kept thinking, this is the biggest purchase of their lives, and they deserve better.” He started solo in 2014, launching Nashville Home Guru, and quickly built one of the area’s fastest-growing teams, which later became Nashville Home Guru at Compass. “By early 2020, I could see where the industry was headed. Technology and marketing
were going to separate the great teams from the good ones, and Compass was building the best platform in the industry. I kept my name, my team, and the way we treat clients. Compass just handed us a much bigger toolbox.” Patrick and his team understand that when it comes to selling, presenting a home at its best leads to faster sales with greater returns. Compass Private Exclusives also lets sellers test the market with a network of qualified buyers before going public, so the listing debuts fresh—no days-on-market count, no price-cut history. “On showing, the inexpensive things usually pay best,” he says. These include fresh neutral paint, better lighting, cleaned-up landscaping, serious decluttering, then staging. “We walk every listing room by room with the seller and give them an honest list: do this, skip that, here’s what it should return at closing.” CONTINUED > S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Over the past year, he adds, only about a third of Brentwood homes sold at or above asking, so in addition to getting a home market-ready, it’s also important to look at the data. “A well-priced Brentwood home goes under contract in a couple of weeks. An overpriced one sits there while buyers wonder what’s wrong with it.” Buyers and sellers can also be misled by headlines boasting claims that Brentwood’s median sale price has been climbing at double-digit rates, with the typical sale now approaching a million and a half dollars. While that sounds great, a knowledgeable and experienced agent will do the research and explain exactly what that means for sellers and buyers. “New construction is doing most of that lifting, so every time a big new home closes in Telluride Manors or Rosebrooke, it pulls the whole market’s numbers up. Existing homes are appreciating too, just at a steadier pace.” For example, if a homeowner of a 1998 home lists in response to that headline, the house will sit on the market. And, if buyers assume every house in town is up double digits, they may overpay. “That’s the difference between reading a headline and reading the data, and honestly, that’s the first reason to hire a professional. I believe we’re the most data-driven team in Williamson County, and our clients make their decisions with that information, not on somebody’s hunch.” The second reason to hire a professional is negotiation. “Deals wobble over inspections, appraisals, and financing every week, and knowing when to push and when to be patient only comes from having done it a few hundred times,” he says. A good agent will also carefully review contracts, disclosures, and deadlines. “Miss one and it can cost you.” After more than 1,100 closings, Patrick is still as passionate as ever about the industry, and this passion has led to great success. RealTrends and The Wall Street Journal have ranked Nashville Home Guru at Compass among the top teams in Tennessee year after year, and Patrick has made their Top Tennessee Agent list seven times now. Zillow and Google reviews are still five stars across the board.
“I moved here because I believed in Nashville, and watching Brentwood become one of the best places to live in America has been a privilege.”
“Anybody can have one big year. Showing up on those lists every year, through rate spikes, a pandemic, and everything else this market has thrown at us since 2014, that’s the part I’m proud of. Add a team of nine agents who each specialize in their own corner of Middle Tennessee, and clients who never have to chase us for an update—that’s the formula.” Patrick also loves having a front-row seat to this area’s story. “I moved here because I believed in Nashville, and watching Brentwood

become one of the best places to live in America has been a privilege. And I’ll admit it, handing over the keys still gets me every single time.” He and his wife’s families have also fallen in love with Nashville and have followed them here. “When your own family starts voting with their moving trucks, that tells you everything about this place.” @nashhomeguru NHG.Guru

DON’T IGNORE YOUR DRY EYES
They Could Be Telling You Something More
Most people brush off dry, irritated, or watery eyes as a minor annoyance. They grab a bottle of over-the-counter eye drops, assume it’s part of getting older, and move on. But according to Dr. Kathryn Beckman of Beckman Dry Eye Institute, those symptoms can be early warning signs of a chronic disease that deserves attention long before it begins affecting daily life. Dr. Beckman’s passion for treating dry eye disease (DED) began decades ago while caring for LASIK patients. “I started treating dry eye disease in the late 90’s when I noticed my LASIK patients had much better outcomes if they did not have dry eyes. I started to give patients a pre-treatment protocol to eliminate any signs of dry eyes before surgery and the outcomes were significantly better.” Her interest was also personal. “I had LASIK early on and personally suffered from dry eyes myself. So I was really motivated to look into managing DED decades ago for both personal and professional reasons.” Today, she says helping patients find answers is what continues to inspire her. “I love the forensic part of finding the root cause of the disease and the fact that I can really make a positive impact on people’s lives.” She adds, “My passion for people who suffer from DED stems from many experiences over the years in meeting someone who thinks there is no hope for their disease, and giving them relief and their life back. I feel so blessed to be part of their journey.”

Many patients are surprised to learn that dry eye disease is often hiding behind symptoms they never associated with the condition. “If someone has symptoms like excessive watering, redness, gritty feeling, burning, having to blink to clear vision, pain, and sensitivity to light, we need to address it or it will continue until it becomes severe.” One of the biggest misconceptions, she says, is that watery eyes mean your eyes are producing enough tears. In reality, the eyes may be overproducing tears because they are lacking the oil needed to keep them from evaporating. Rather than simply recommending eye drops, Dr. Beckman takes time to understand the complete picture. “I ask a lot of questions and really listen to my patient’s story.” She explores everything from screen time and sleep habits to medications, previous eye injuries, and overall health. “DED usually has more than one underlying diagnosis. It’s the forensic part of this that I really enjoy. No two
patients are the same, and I know that I can give them hope and relief with a personalized treatment plan.” That detective work has changed lives. One patient had been treated for years with antibiotics for what was believed to be chronic conjunctivitis. Dr. Beckman discovered she actually had two severe autoimmune diseases contributing to her dry eye disease. Another patient, a truck driver, had lost his job after failing his vision exam because his fluctuating vision made it unsafe to drive. After identifying and treating the root cause of his dry eye disease, he was able to return to work. She also recalls a patient who started to develop severe pain whenever she opened her eye in the morning. The pain caused her to miss work on and off, and over time she became anxious and depressed. Dr. Beckman discovered the problem was not just dry eye disease, but also a previous eye injury that had never properly healed, combined with CONTINUED >

the fact that she did not fully close her eyes while sleeping. Together, those factors created a chronic and painful condition often associated with dry eye disease. After developing a personalized treatment plan, the painful episodes stopped recurring, allowing her to return to work consistently while her anxiety and depression improved.
“DED USUALLY HAS MORE THAN ONE UNDERLYING DIAGNOSIS. IT’S THE FORENSIC PART OF THIS THAT I REALLY ENJOY. NO TWO PATIENTS ARE THE SAME, AND I KNOW THAT I CAN GIVE THEM HOPE AND RELIEF WITH A PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLAN.”
70
S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
Fortunately, advances in technology have transformed how dry eye disease is diagnosed and treated. Using advanced imaging and video, Dr. Beckman can evaluate every layer of the tear film, the ocular surface, eyelids, and blinking patterns while reviewing the results directly with patients. “Patients often express validation at finally understanding why they have DED, and relief that there is hope and treatment available.” Every treatment plan at Beckman Dry Eye Institute is tailored to the individual, whether patients are seeking faster relief, natural therapies, prescription medications, or budget-conscious options. For anyone who has accepted burning, watery or irritated eyes as simply part of life, Dr. Beckman has an encouraging message. “Our focus is solely dedicated to the treatment of DED and intervening before the disease impacts people’s lives. The earlier we can diagnose and initiate treatment, the easier it is to prevent damage to the eyes.” Sometimes the smallest symptoms tell the biggest story. By seeking answers early, patients can protect not only their vision, but also their quality of life for years to come. BeckmanDryEyeInstitute.com

CREATING FIRST-FLOOR PRIMARY SUITES SO PEOPLE CAN STAY IN THEIR BELOVED HOMES
As people age, some choose to downsize or move to a retirement community, but plenty of others want to stay in their homes. This is where they’ve made so many wonderful memories, and they want to continue to enjoy their familiar neighborhoods and neighbors. Unfortunately, many older homes, especially those in Brentwood, often have primary bedrooms and baths on the second floor. Even those who can still manage stairs may not want to do so on a daily basis, or they worry that one day they won’t be able to climb them. Due to the popularity of “aging in place,” there is a high demand for contractors who can transform a home and create a primary suite on the first floor. In fact, it’s become such a common request in the last few years that RSU Contractors now consider it one of their specialties. In business for 44 years, RSU has a team that can fulfill every homeowner’s wish, and they are requested repeatedly by clients. One couple has had them back multiple times in the last 12 to 15 years. Their home, in the Indian Point subdivision of Brentwood, was built in 1984 and has needed many updates over the years. “I don’t think there’s an area that we have not worked on in their house,” says owner Mark Williams. “We completed a garage addition with bedrooms above, front entry remodel, second floor attic renovation, and existing main floor spaces.” Two years ago, to create the primary suite the couple envisioned, RSU added an entire addition to the side of their home. This new space includes a spacious primary bedroom with an adjacent sunroom, a luxurious primary bathroom, and a large walk-in closet with its own laundry area. CONTINUED >

“The sunroom is sort of a transition room,” he says. “It allows them to flow from the existing house into this nice view of their backyard and then right into the master suite. They also like the fact that they can sit in an air-conditioned environment and enjoy the back view, which was one of their goals.” The primary bathroom, with his and her separate vanities, free-standing tub, and large shower, is everything the couple wanted and more. “For these folks, this is their forever home,” says Mark. “They made that decision, and every bit of their plan was well thought out. The space is right off the kitchen area, so it has access to everything they need.” Just recently, RSU returned to refinish all the floors in the main part of the house to match the floors in the addition. The company is all about creating seamless finishes – building something new that blends in with what was originally there. “When you add an addition, you want to make sure it looks like it belongs there or has always been there,” he says. “It shouldn’t look just stuck onto the original home.” Some of their clients already have detailed plans on hand, and RSU is happy to work with those. Others may be starting from scratch, and in this case, the team goes through the entire design-build process with them. While many of their clients undergo renovations in order to stay in their homes, there is also a great side benefit for those who decide to sell one day. “Remodeling projects like these add immediate value, so you really are investing in your house,” says Mark. “It’s going to hold its value since many people are looking for houses in Brentwood with the primary suite on the main floor.” He and his team also understand how renovations can be somewhat disruptive, and so they do everything they can to make the project as easy as possible. “It’s an interruption in their lives, and so we plan for that. We make sure we isolate the construction zone from the living zone. Most of our clients have pets and have lives to lead, and we have to make sure we allow that to take place while we’re doing construction.” Mark likes to tell clients to think of it as if they’re going on a great journey. “Sometimes you might get delayed in an airport, or you might have your bag lost for a day, but in the end, you’re going to get to the great journey.” Just like the trip, when the process comes to an end, it will have all been worth it. “It’s really nice to hear clients tell us how much they really enjoy the space that we’ve created,” he says. “One of the best compliments is when a homeowner says, ‘This is my favorite room in the house’.” It’s so much more than just a building; it’s people’s vision and their castles.” @rsucontractors RSUContractor.com

MORE THAN
a Bag
A BLEND OF FASHION AND FUNCTION 80
A RT IST ’S PA LE T T E | S HOPPIN G
A purse does more than hold your phone, keys, and wallet. It quietly pulls an outfit together while also handling the practical side of everyday life. That balance between fashion and function is what makes a great purse feel less like an accessory and more like part of a personal style. Some bags are designed to stand out. A bold color, metallic detail, or structured shape can instantly become the statement piece of an outfit. Even with simple jeans and a white T-shirt, the right purse adds personality and intention. Other times, a purse works best when it blends in. Neutral tones, soft leather, or minimalist designs create a polished look without stealing attention from the rest of the outfit. These subtle bags are often the ones people reach for every day because they work with almost everything.
FASHION TRENDS MAY CHANGE EVERY SEASON, BUT THE ROLE OF A PURSE STAYS THE SAME.
Of course, style only goes so far if a purse is impractical. The best bags are the ones that fit real life. A roomy tote helps someone move from work meetings to errands without missing a beat. Even a small clutch has a purpose for evenings out when only the essentials matter. Fashion trends may change every season, but the role of a purse stays the same. It adapts while still serving a purpose. That’s why people often invest in bags they truly love. A good purse is dependable, but it also can make a fashion statement. In many ways, a purse is one of the few accessories that people use every single day. It carries necessities, reflects personal style, and can completely change the tone of an outfit. Whether bold and eye-catching or simple and understated, a purse proves that fashion and function can exist beautifully together. S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/BR E N T WO O D
