JUSTIN DYAR AND THE SMITH LAKE VACATION HOME OF YOUR DREAMS

A bold fusion of aviation heritage and iconic character, the Altitude MB Meteor “Felix The Cat” Limited Edition brings one of aviation’s most enduring symbols to the cockpit-inspired wristwatch. Crafted from Grade 2 titanium and finished with a tactical stealth black DLC coating, the 42mm timepiece absorbs light for a striking, low-profile presence while maintaining the rugged performance expected from the Altitude MB Meteor collection. Applied numerals and indexes are filled with high-grade white Super-LumiNova®, emitting a powerful blue glow for exceptional legibility when visibility matters most. The watch also retains one of the MB Meteor’s signature design elements: the distinctive looped “ejection” pull handle at the tip of the seconds hand, finished in vibrant yellow and black as a nod to the original MBI. Adding a playful yet historic detail, Felix the Cat artwork appears directly on the stealth black dial, mischievously running off with the number six. Long regarded as a good-luck charm among aviators, Felix the Cat has symbolized courage, humor, and fearless adventure since the earliest days of flight. His legacy is closely tied to U.S. Navy aviation squadrons, most notably VFA-31, the “Tomcatters,” whose insignia proudly features the iconic character. The lineage traces back to the original VF-3 squadron, carried forward through generations to today’s VFA-31. Now, that legendary spirit takes center stage once again with the Altitude MB Meteor “Felix The Cat” Limited Edition.

The Investment Issue

By definition, investment is the act of dedicating time, energy, or resources toward something with the hope of a worthwhile return. But in practice, it’s so much more. Whether it’s our community, relationships, finances, or personal growth, the things we invest in shape our futures and the lives of those around us.

We can invest in our community by supporting local businesses, schools, and organizations. Volunteering and mentoring are powerful ways to contribute to future generations. On a broader scale, participating in public surveys and staying informed about city planning are investments in the places we call home.

Financial investments help us build security and achieve long-term goals, while personal investments—spending quality time with loved ones or fostering deeper connections—bring immeasurable rewards to both ourselves and the people we care about.

While the ways we choose to invest may look different for everyone, the common thread is the hope of making a positive impact. This month’s issue explores various ways we can invest in our lives—whether by nurturing our community, planning for our financial future, or prioritizing the relationships that matter most.

Every investment we make is an act of hope and commitment. As you read this issue, we hope you’ll feel inspired to invest in the people, places, and dreams that matter most to you.

Here’s to a month full of growth, connection, and meaningful returns.

Happy April!

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

A CONVERSATION WITH CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST AND FOUNDER OF 10.11 MAKEUP AND HAIR, ERICA BEUKELMAN.

INVEST IN YOUR BEAUTY

Erica Beukelman is the talented founder and heart behind 10.11 Makeup and Hair. With an expert eye for beauty and a sharp instinct for business, Erica understands the importance of investing in the things that matter most—whether that be quality products or building something that lasts. Erica, along with her husband and three boys, recently relocated to Tennessee, where she continues to bring her signature artistry to every project she takes on.

YOU’VE BUILT AN INCREDIBLE CAREER AS A CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST AND THE FOUNDER OF 10.11 MAKEUP AND HAIR! WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY, AND WHEN DID YOU REALIZE IT COULD BE MORE THAN JUST A PASSION?

I always wanted to do hair and makeup… when I was little, I [would play] dress up with my Papa, putting barrettes all over his hair. I taught myself how to French braid on a Barbie doll, and all of my Cabbage Patch dolls had eyelashes drawn on them. I just always wanted to do [this]. Right out of high school, I wanted to go to cosmetology school, but my mom and dad encouraged me to get my degree first for more experience and to have another option to always fall back on. I did my undergrad at The University of Tennessee Knoxville, [then completed] my Master’s at Cal State San Bernardino before enrolling in cosmetology school. During school, I would save the allotted hours we were allowed to miss from classes and would take shoots and business opportunities that allowed me to gain experience and build a portfolio… I was intentional with what I would pick and choose. By the time I graduated, I had already built up a clientele and was ready to start working. I feel like the biggest thing for my business has been the genuine industry relationships that I’ve built, and maintained over the years. My husband and I also had our first baby [a month after] I took the state board, and I’m so grateful that I don’t know anything other than running a business with a family… I’ve just had to figure out how to make it work.

HOW DID YOU BREAK THROUGH INTO THE WEDDING AND ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY?

Right out of college, I [had a] brief snippet doing marketing for an event company… I was surrounded by the wedding industry and was like, ‘oh, I love this!’ I fell in love with weddings and knew if I had a niche where I specialize in this one area of the industry, that could be really great. I put my focus into the wedding industry and began specializing specifically in high-end luxury weddings. From there, we kind of fell into the reality TV world—working on some of  The Bachelorette weddings—and from there, I was able to see the production side. I loved it! I then started diving into both industries. Through it all, I’ve stayed a true believer of skin-forward beauty makeup. I want [my clients] to walk away feeling like themselves. I would say my client is definitely not one to sit down and say ‘make me someone else,’ you know? I love enhancing someone’s natural features... I think there’s something really beautiful in helping someone discover the [beauty] they just aren’t seeing.

AS SOMEONE WHO WORKS WITH HIGH-PROFILE CLIENTS, WHAT SEPARATES GOOD MAKEUP FROM A CAMERA-READY LOOK?

I feel like, in general, everything starts with skin. Really prepping the skin so you have a good and solid foundation to start with makes all of the difference. A big part of helping someone feel camera-ready is them also feeling very comfortable. Aside from the application process itself, listening to the client and understanding what truly makes them feel their best and then delivering that for them [is so important.] I think someone is going to look their best when they feel their best.

WHEN IT COMES TO INVESTING IN MAKEUP, WHERE IS IT WORTH SPENDING MORE VERSUS SAVING?

Skincare! Investing in quality products to prep the skin is going to help create a really good base and canvas so that the makeup you

apply has a beautiful surface for a long-lasting application. I mean, you see professional artists working with a variety of products all the time—high-end as well as drugstore brands—but it all depends on the individual product and how you’re using it. Reaching for quality long-wear or long-lasting products for the skin, and then saving on mascara or lip gloss with drug store brands, is a great way to invest in products without breaking the bank.

WHAT ARE THREE ‘MUST-HAVE’ PRODUCTS IN YOUR MAKEUP KIT?

Professionally, right now, I am obsessed with Kosas Cloud Set Loose Powder… and, bonus, their products are clean! This helps set the makeup, but also gives a really beautiful velvety finish. I also love Extreme Cream by INNBEAUTY because it’s lifting and firming, and I use that as a primer for a lot of my clients. Lastly, the Patrick Ta Double Take Blush. It’s a powder and a cream, and I love working with them because you can set it with the powder and then go back on top of it with the cream to bring out a little bit more of that skin texture and dewiness. Personally, my top must-have products are the A313 Retinyl and La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5–both must be ordered from a European French pharmacy as the ingredients differ from the U.S. product–and then the Karee Hayes Koji Pads. Those three products have transformed my skin!

WHAT ROLE DOES CONFIDENCE PLAY IN BEAUTY? DO YOU

THINK INVESTING IN QUALITY MAKEUP CAN SHIFT THE WAY SOMEONE SHOWS UP IN THEIR LIFE OR CAREER?

I feel like that’s the biggest role and honor that makeup artists have: helping someone discover the beauty they already have. Once they truly seem themselves, the confidence isn’t as far-reaching to grasp. When someone feels really good in their own skin, that makes all the difference. Even when I’m on a photoshoot, you have your inspo deck with images and mood boards, but I will still talk to my models and say ‘hey, this is the look that we’re going for today… With that being said, is there anything in particular that you love and don’t love on yourself?’ It’s going to change the vibe and their tone and their mood [if they don’t feel good about themselves.] I really do think that, yes, knowing how to use products and what products are best for certain skin types, textures, and tones matters tremendously, but if a person is not comfortable, it will make a huge difference. I think the ultimate goal is understanding that we’re servicing a person who wants to feel their best. It’s 100% about listening to the client, hearing what they’re saying, and creating a look that makes them feel really good. The same goes for personal makeup… get products that you love and use what makes you feel good!

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR ANYONE STRUGGLING TO FIND THEIR RHYTHM WITH THEIR OWN MAKEUP ROUTINE?

It doesn’t have to be a multi-layered crazy routine… pick up some sample products before investing in full-size products that you might want to try. I love to say less is more, so give yourself permission to simplify your routine if you need to by using products that are versatile—like a cream blush that can double as a lip and eye color as well. Invest in products that make you excited to use and pick

products that are right for you. Right now, I keep reaching for the same three things: a tinted moisturizer, a cream blush, and a lengthening mascara. It’s simple, makes me feel awake and fresh, and it’s a quick routine that works in this season of life.

WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST LEAP OF FAITH YOU TOOK IN LAUNCHING 10.11 MAKEUP AND HAIR, AND WHAT DID THAT SEASON TEACH YOU ABOUT INVESTING IN YOURSELF?

10.11 Makeup and Hair is a curated team of artists, now bi-coastal, serving clients worldwide. Most of my team has been with me for over a decade, and I am so grateful for them. I definitely feel like investing in my team of artists and stylists—making sure they feel cared for and appreciated—has been so important and impactful for my business. After having an established business on the West Coast, moving my family to Tennessee to be close to family—and in turn, expanding my business here—was really scary. Honestly, after fifteen years in the industry, it felt almost like I was starting over, personally, as an artist. Nashville has this incredibly talented and tight-knit community of artists and creatives. I really had to trust that I would eventually find my place here and that this was where my family was meant to be. It has been such a blessing. There is so much opportunity here, and over the last few years working in Nashville, I have grown so much as an artist. I have felt so beautifully embraced by our community… It really is so special here.

MODERN HOME DESIGNS

Staying on trend while appealing to the masses

When it comes to what’s popular in home design, some trends stay for a while, while others are only in Vogue for a short time. Here, Gabrielle Dodson, a Brentwood resident and Realtor® with COMPASS, takes us through some home designs that have stood the test of time and introduces us to some new and exciting developments.

“Remember that you're appealing to the masses, so instead of super trendy, concentrate on fresh and inviting.”

KITCHENS

While white kitchens remain popular, the color is softening slightly. “We’re not as stark white as we were,” she says. “Instead, we’re going towards a warmer palette.”

Quartz is still a great choice for countertops, including waterfall countertops, but something new is in the mix— porcelain. It can withstand high heat, doesn’t stain, and looks very similar to marble or quartz.

A scullery, or a prep kitchen, is becoming more common, explains Gabrielle. This is basically a kitchen behind a kitchen – one where all the real (messy) work takes place. Large pantries with lots of storage are still a big plus, and if there’s room and electricity for a second refrigerator, that’s even better.

BATHROOMS

In primary bathrooms, heated floors and steam showers remain popular, with the latter offering some great

health benefits. People are also installing coffee bars and, in some cases, small fridges.

“Gold is still trending when it comes to hardware, but people are also going with mixed metals, such as a brushed nickel, which is closer to a softer gold,” she says. “Some are also going back to black.” The standalone soaking tub and separate walk-in shower are probably here to stay.

Storage, of course, is always important, and now many walk-in closets can be found right off the primary bathroom. “These may have islands with lots of drawers, and maybe even a glass top where you can put your accessories,” says Gabrielle. Other closet trends include chandeliers, wallpapered ceilings, and LED-lit clothes racks and clothes bars.

ADDITIONAL ROOMS

Even though many people have gone back to the office to work, they still like to have a home office, or maybe even a library. For fun seekers, game rooms, usually found

in basements or bonus rooms, with pool tables, ping pong, air hockey, and vintage arcade games, are a hit. Add in a movie room, and a home becomes a private entertainment center. Go even bigger with a sports court and/or golf simulators.

People today tend to prioritize self-care, and it’s being reflected in their homes. “Some are doing therapy rooms where they have a cold plunge, a sauna, a red light therapy area, and maybe a massage table,” she says.

But the biggest trend Gabrielle is seeing is the addition of a drop zone, or a family-ready room. This is a designated space for book bags, coats, shoes, and sports gear. In addition to hooks, people are installing cabinets to hide these items, with outlets so all electronics can be charged behind closed doors. Water filling stations are an added bonus.

To keep things bright and on trend, add some rope lighting to any room. “You basically drape them, and you can make them longer or shorter, depending on the height of your ceilings.”

TRENDS AND SELLING

While trends are fun, when it comes to selling, it’s often better to stick with the tried and true.

“Remember that you’re appealing to the masses, so instead of super trendy, concentrate on fresh and inviting,” she says. “Give buyers a clean slate so they can see how they can make it their own.”

Make sure your home gives a great first impression. Freshen up the front door and porch area with some plants and a welcome mat, and ensure the landscaping is trimmed.

Once inside, your home should look as bright and open as possible, says Gabrielle. You can do this by adding recessed lighting or lamps, removing heavy drapery, and painting rooms a neutral light color.

“Open concept is still the most popular layout, and anytime you can open things up by removing a wall, and it’s not cost prohibitive, do it.”

“Open concept is still the most popular layout, and anytime you can open things up by removing a wall, and it’s not cost-prohibitive, do it,” she says.

In the kitchen, instead of installing all new cabinets, paint the existing cabinets if they’re of good quality. “We used to say, ‘When in doubt, white it out,’ but there are some really great older homes with beautiful high-end cabinets that buyers may find appealing to leave as is. Be sure to also update appliances and hardware so they don’t look dated. In the bathroom, she recommends installing new flooring if needed. “You could do porcelain

tile,” says Gabrielle. “It will have that veining look and appear more expensive. If your space is not that large, paint it white or as light as you can, add a nice countertop, and new plumbing fixtures.”

She adds, “If you could make any kind of investment, do a drop zone or a larger laundry room.”

Gabrielle enjoys providing guidance to buyers and sellers and is a valuable resource for contractors, painters, electricians, and more. “My clients can call me for anything,” she says. “We work with vendors daily, and we vet them before referring.” gabrielledodson.com

THE WOMAN WHO WEARS

many hats

Nicole Sanders honors old-world craftsmanship while building a modern, inclusive creative space for hat-making

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY

Hat-making is an art form rooted in patience, precision, and a deep respect for tradition. It requires a steady hand, an attentive eye, and an appreciation for the quiet, intricate process of shaping something both functional and expressive. Every stitch, every curve of a brim, every carefully chosen material tells a story, not just of style, but of craftsmanship.

Nicole Sanders embodies these qualities wholeheartedly. Trained in Italy and across the United States, she brings a global perspective and refined technical expertise to her work. Over the years, she has created hats for films, musicians, and friends alike, with each piece being approached with the same care and intentionality. As the founder of Sanders Hat Company and M.A.D.E. Nashville (Milliner Atelier Design Experience), she has built more than a business; she has cultivated a creative space where heritage techniques meet modern individuality. Her work reflects a commitment to detail and a genuine love for the craft, elevating each hat from an accessory to a statement piece. It was when she was working on the television show Nashville that she witnessed how hat-making could be more than a hobby.

“I’ve always been creative and hands-on, and seeing people make a living through a tangible craft made something click,” Nicole explains. “I started exploring hat-making seriously, making sure that whatever I built was sustainable, rooted in quality materials, and something I could grow long-term. It gave me a way to work with my hands, express creativity, and build a business around something I genuinely love.”

Alongside her wife, Meredith, Nicole has shaped these ventures with a clear purpose: to make hat-making approachable, inclusive, and inspiring. Together, they have created an environment that welcomes beginners and seasoned creatives alike, inviting the community not only to wear beautifully crafted hats but to understand and participate in the artistry behind them.

“The most rewarding part is being trusted with something meaningful,” Nicole says. “I love being asked to create a hat for a specific project or milestone, whether that’s a film, a big event, or a personal

celebration. Seeing my hats worn in movies has been incredible, but what means even more to me are the personal moments, like receiving wedding photos or hearing from a client who’s worn their hat so often they needed to come back for a new liner. Those moments tell me the hat isn’t just being worn, it’s being lived in, and that’s what makes the work truly special.”

Nicole honors the long-standing traditions of millinery in every step of her process, shaping each hat by hand with wooden blocks and time-tested tools. This deliberate, hands-on craftsmanship allows her to devote focused care to every custom piece, ensuring no two hats are ever exactly alike. Complementing this dedication to tradition is her unwavering commitment to premium materials. By working with high-quality fibers such as beaver, rabbit, and coypu fur, she creates hats that are not only beautifully formed but are also thoughtfully constructed to stand the test of time.

“Each material has its own character, and selecting the right one is essential to how the hat wears, holds its shape, and lasts over time,” Nicole says. “I’m equally intentional about embellishments. Some are custom-created specifically for a hat, while others are sourced during trips to places like Italy, New York, and beyond. I’m always drawn to materials that feel distinctive and elevated, little details that add depth and individuality and make each hat feel truly considered.”

NICOLE SANDERS | SANDERS HAT COMPANY

"To me, that’s what investing in quality is all about - pieces that are worn, lived in, and tied to real moments. Being able to build a business around something I genuinely enjoy is what makes this work so meaningful.”

“Those moments tell me the hat isn’t just being worn, it’s being lived in, and that’s what makes the work truly special.”

While hats are certainly a staple in Middle Tennessee, M.A.D.E. Nashville’s group sessions take that tradition to a whole new level by inviting people into a truly hands-on hat-making experience. Based in a private, converted music studio in Sylvan Park, M.A.D.E. Nashville offers a range of guided workshops where friends, families, and groups can craft unique hats to take home with them. Each session lets participants choose styles, colors, and custom details while ensuring the process is welcoming, fun, and memorable.

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, milestone, corporate event, or simply enjoying a creative outing together, Nicole and Meredith make the experience seamless and enjoyable for everyone involved. And if you’re hosting an event elsewhere, M.A.D.E. Nashville can even be booked as a custom pop-up hat bar, bringing the craftsmanship and celebration to your own space.

“At the end of the day, I love what I do,” Nicole expresses. “I love making things with my hands, and I love when someone comes back again and again because a hat has really become part of their life. To me, that’s what investing in quality is all about - pieces that are worn, lived in, and tied to real moments. Being able to build a business around something I genuinely enjoy is what makes this work so meaningful.”

Bringing Wall Street to Main Street

Connect with a bank that invests in you and your community

When Legends Bank was founded in 1998, the goal was to provide a local bank with a hands-on, personalized approach. “Our founding CFO and I had worked for a regional bank and saw the pain points of being at a larger, multi-region, multi-state organization,” says president and CEO Tommy (Thomas) Bates, Jr. “We wanted to be able to focus more closely with our community.”

Today, Legends Bank, with offices in Brentwood, Clarksville, Nashville, Pleasant View, and Ashland City, is the only locally owned financial institution in Montgomery County.

Being a community bank doesn’t mean that it doesn’t offer all the services that larger banks provide. Whether customers need personal or business accounts, mortgages and other types of loans, treasury management, or more, Legends can meet those requirements.

For those looking to invest their money, its team of experienced financial advisors is ready to create a portfolio that fits each client’s unique objectives. To do that, advisors must take the time to get to know every client.

To assist clients in choosing the right investments, Legends has partnered with one of the largest investment firms in the country, and the largest that works with banks.

“Our securities and advisory services are offered through LPL Financial, and that sets us apart in how we build our client portfolios,” says Robin. “We utilize its vast resources, which consist of economists, analysts, research staff, and research teams. They help us filter through and pare down the thousands of investment choices out there to fit the ones that actually meet the needs and objectives of a particular client.”

“We utilize its vast resources, which consist of economists, analysts, research staff, and research teams.”
– Thomas Bates, Jr.

“Our approach is built on building mutual trust and understanding,” says Robin Davis, CRC, LPL branch office manager with Legends Financial Services. “Each relationship is important to us. We don't want to be just a vendor. We want to be the neighbor in the community we serve. Our mission is to bring Wall Street to Main Street.”

Using a consultative approach, advisors meet with potential clients, asking questions and actually listening to their answers about their goals, dreams, and expectations. “Working together, we then create a roadmap to help them get to their financial destination,” he says.

For example, he explains that over the last two years, several tech stocks have really carried the market. But now, he’s seeing other sectors and industries that have somewhat underperformed over the last couple of years coming back into popularity.

“What we think investors ought to be doing now is checking their allocations. A portfolio should have exposure to many different sectors of the economy, and what's happened over the last couple of years is that some portfolios have gotten a little out of balance.

Some of the really strong performance sectors have become such a big part of their portfolio that their risk profile has probably changed without their realizing it.”

Without getting into specific sectors or industries, Robins says there's a whole asset class that's been forgotten over the last couple of years: the bond market, or the fixed income market. “We think that's probably worth revisiting, given that interest rates are much more attractive than they were several years ago. And, fixed income can certainly act

CONTINUED >

as a buffer to the volatility of the equity markets in a balanced portfolio.”

Not only are its clients investing with them, but Legends is investing right back into the community. “We stay very involved in local organizations, whether it be the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, or various economic development organizations,” says Tommy. “I've been chairman of the Chamber, the Economic Development Council, and the Education Foundation, and several of our seven past Rotary presidents are with our bank right now.”

He and his staff also volunteer extensively, sponsor many worthwhile causes, and host events to raise funds for local charities. “One of the most important things about what makes us different is that we see our customers on the street every day, and I think our level of commitment is much higher than when they deal with big firms. There, people come and go, including investment advisors, or they’re doing a lot of things over the phone. But, when you look a person in the eye, you know you're going to give them your best.”

Even though he’s the CEO, if someone has a suggestion or a complaint, Tommy makes himself available to speak with them, which is unheard of in larger banks. “If they’re not happy about something, I hear from them directly, so I know we have to put our best foot forward every day.”

Being heavily involved in the community also allows Legends’ staff to get to know their clients well. This personal touch and dedication cannot be found with online investing. “People’s dreams, goals, risk thresholds, and investment timeframes are all a little different, and that’s why we use a consultative approach at the beginning of our relationships,” says Robin.

Also, online investors don't always have access to the research or to new products or offerings that might become available. And, with markets and economies in constant flux, it’s important for advisors to continue monitoring the investment roadmap and to suggest any necessary changes. “It takes us a lot of energy and commitment to do that on a daily basis.”

DESIGNING FRESH STARTS

INSIDE PROJECT REDESIGN’S MISSION TO TURN DONATED FURNITURE INTO FOUNDATIONS FOR HEALING.

Coming home to a thoughtfully furnished, beautifully decorated space at the end of the day is a comfort many of us take for granted. Yet for some families and individuals, that sense of stability and warmth isn’t always within reach. That’s where Project Redesign steps in. By reusing donated furniture and décor, the nonprofit transforms and redesigns empty houses into welcoming homes, spaces designed not just for living, but for healing, rebuilding, and reclaiming a fresh start.

“Most of the individuals and families that we serve are coming from incredibly difficult circumstances, and walking into a space that feels intentional, welcoming, and put together just tells them you matter,” Rhonda Wellmann, executive director of Project Redesign, explains.  “It restores that dignity and provides the stability that they need at such a critical time in their life. It gives a child a bed to sleep on or a sofa where the family can sit together, or a dining table where they can share a meal.”

Project Redesign was born in 2008 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, when several of

its eventual founders had the opportunity to furnish a Nashville home for a family displaced from New Orleans. What began as a single act of service quickly sparked a bigger vision. Founders Karen Moore, Allison Douglas, Suzanne Snyder, and Ellie Billington began asking how they could continue providing that same sense of dignity, comfort, and fresh beginnings for families right here in Nashville. From that question, Project Redesign took shape.

“THE

WORK THAT

WE DO

HELPS TURN THOSE EMPTY SPACES INTO PLACES OF HEALING,

REST, AND BELONGING.”

“They saw firsthand how a thoughtfully designed house could help restore dignity and bring hope to someone going through a difficult season of life, and it’s that belief that still guides everything that we do today,” Rhonda explains.

In 2025, Project Redesign partnered with 12 nonprofits to complete 59 installs, transforming 230 rooms and impacting 182 individuals. This meaningful work is powered by donations of gently used furniture and décor. While mattresses, bedding, and electronics aren’t accepted, there is an ongoing need for larger pieces like dressers, dining tables, and sofas. To make giving simple, the team schedules complimentary home pickups, ensuring the process is as seamless as the impact is significant.

Behind every installation is a network of dedicated donors, nonprofit partners, and volunteers who make each transformation possible. Project Redesign works closely with its partner organizations to identify families emerging from crisis and thoughtfully designs spaces tailored to their needs. From community members who give furniture and financial support to volunteers who help at each install, every contribution plays a vital role in turning empty rooms into spaces of dignity, stability, and hope.

Project Redesign hosts two signature fundraising events each year. In March, the organization held its third annual Girls Night Out at Hillwood Country Club. This year’s “Rhinestone Rodeo” theme invited patrons to dress the part for an evening of seated

dining, live music, and both silent and live auctions, with all proceeds going directly toward funding home installations.

In November, they look forward to their annual Sip & Shop, a two-day shopping event in partnership with local businesses. During the event, 20% of sales are donated back to Project Redesign, allowing the community to support the mission simply by shopping local.

Everyone deserves to feel truly at home, whether in a house or an apartment, no matter the circumstance.

“Furniture fills the space, but design creates a feeling,” Rhonda says. “Often, when we walk into these spaces, there’s a little more than just hope and determination. The work that we do helps turn

those empty spaces into places of healing, rest, and belonging, which is so critical along their journey.”

For those looking to get involved, the organization’s userfriendly website outlines how to donate furniture and home decor, make a financial contribution, or volunteer. Visitors can also find information on scheduling furniture pickups, item guidelines, exploring partnership opportunities, and learning more about the nonprofits they serve. Follow their social media pages as well for updates on upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and the latest Project Redesign news.

IROQUOIS SPRING STEEPLECHASE 85th Anniversary

'RITE OF SPRING' THROUGH AN EQUESTRIAN-ANCHORED, SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY ANNUAL TRADITION

ARTICLE BY JENNIFER KAUFMAN

There’s something about the first Saturday in May that feels quintessentially Nashville — wide-brim hats, polished boots and the thunder of hooves rolling across Percy Warner Park.  On May 9, the Iroquois Steeplechase returns for its 85th anniversary, ushering in another unforgettable “Rite of Spring.”

This year, the beloved tradition adds a new layer of energy with the debut of The Big 98 Stage, presented in partnership with iHeartMedia Nashville’s 97.9 The BIG 98.  Set in Centerfield, the live music stage will spotlight Nashvillebased artists throughout the day, blending Music City’s signature sound with one of the South’s most celebrated sporting events.

Of course, the heart of Steeplechase remains the racing itself with six exhilarating races. More than 30,000 spectators are expected to gather, embracing a day that seamlessly weaves sport, style and Southern hospitality.

From the reimagined Magnolia Garden’s all-inclusive elegance to the high-energy Royal 615 Lounge and classic tailgating traditions, there’s a vantage point for every kind of race-day reveler. Families can enjoy a dedicated children’s zone, while fashionistas compete in the always-anticipated Style Contest.  This event features something for everyone.

Beyond the pageantry, the event continues its philanthropic legacy, having contributed more than $11.4 million to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt since 1981.

Gates open at 8 a.m., and with music continuing into the evening, Steeplechase 2026 promises to be as vibrant and community-centered as ever — a Nashville tradition, beautifully evolved.

Invest in the Best When Doing Estate Planning

Consult an attorney who is an expert in the field

When it comes to estate planning, it’s important to invest in an attorney who is appropriately trained in every aspect of this field, understands the laws of Tennessee, and will take the time to get to know you.

“The worst plans to administer after a death are the ones where clients have not received good advice because they’ve worked with attorneys who were not adequately trained in estate planning,” says Larry Bray, a partner with Patterson Bray Attorneys PLLC. He limits his practice to estate planning and post-death administration, and

also handles asset protection planning, charitable planned giving, and business succession and taxes.

“Also, one of our best qualities as a firm is that we have a more personal relationship with our clients,” he says. “We like to get to know them, their goals, and their objectives since we really can't recommend a plan until we know what they are trying to accomplish.” He also has the ability to take complex issues and break them down in a way that’s easily understandable to clients.

There are many misconceptions about estate planning. For example, many people believe that as long as they have a will, that’s enough. But, that’s only the beginning. “At a minimum, people should set up powers of attorney and disability plans to avoid the possibility of having a conservator at some point in life,” says Julia Denby, who joined the firm in November and also limits her practice to estate planning, probate administration, and post-death administration.

Adds Larry, “If you don't have a financial power of attorney and you’re incapacitated, for example, there's a chance that the court will have to get involved to appoint a conservator. So, it's important to name the people you want to make financial decisions for you and also have a power of attorney for healthcare.”

Along with that, a living will is always a critical document to have in place. It provides directions about end-of-life decisions, such as whether or not clients want to have feeding tubes left in or removed, and whether or not they want to donate organs.

“We also prepare a HIPAA authorization for our clients under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act so that their agents, their family, will have access to all their medical records, files, and other personal information,” he says.

Another huge misconception is that wills avoid probate. “A will has to be approved by the court, and that's a process that takes time,” says Larry. “It costs the family money to pay attorneys to make court appearances in addition to all the other expenses associated with the filings.”

A surprising detail that many people don’t realize is that this process is accessible in public records. “The probate court process is

public, and these days, that means they scan documents and put them on their court clerk's website for anyone to have access to,” says Larry. “You have to have a revocable living trust or other type of trust that owns the assets or is a beneficiary of the assets in order to avoid this process. This is why we focus a lot on implementing trusts and making sure those trusts are funded to avoid probate and for asset protection purposes.”

This is especially important if you own real property in multiple states, explains Julia. “You will likely have to open a probate estate in each state where you own real property, if the real property is not owned by the trust.”

Estate planning is not just for older people or those with substantial assets. People as young as 18 should start putting directives into place. “One thing that's very important, especially when kids turn 18, is to set up a power of attorney,” says Julia. At that age, parents and guardians will no longer have access to their children’s financial or medical records if they become incapacitated.

“That disability piece is the biggest part of what we do when kids go off to college, when they turn 18, because we want to make sure that parents have access to all that information,” says Larry.

CONTINUED >

Once all of your estate planning is complete, it’s important to review it regularly, especially when major life changes occur, such as marriage, divorce, or the arrival of a new child. “We advise reviewing it every four to five years to make sure anything new or acquired is in the trust,” says Julia. “It's important because if it's not in the trust, a probate estate may need to be opened instead of just handling it privately.

There have also been situations, explains Larry, in which banks, doctors, and hospitals would not accept disability documents or powers of attorney that were put in place years earlier. “They say they're too old, although they don't legally expire, but they're worried about liability and lawsuits that have been filed in the past because someone acted inappropriately.”

Estate planning is multi-varied and complicated, and this is why you need adept guidance to ensure that everything aligns with your wishes. It’s critical to invest the time and money in finding the right person to handle your personal and business assets, manage your health decisions, and ensure that all of your wishes are honored.

“This is all Julia and I do—our education is geared only towards estate planning,” says Larry. “We put a lot of focus on education, not just locally, but throughout the United States. We attend many different planning seminars and also teach at them. We're members of various national groups, like think tanks and study groups, where we get together and talk about our practices, how we run our practices, how we work with clients, and strategies that need to be implemented.”

Patterson Bray Attorneys, LLC

Founded in 2004, Patterson Bray Attorneys PLLC in Brentwood and Memphis provides a wide range of legal services in:

Estate Planning

Probate & Trust Administration

Family Law

Personal Injury & Death

Business Organization

With his educational background in business and accounting, as well as in law, estate planning was a natural fit for Larry, and something he gravitated towards right from the beginning.

Julia initially thought she wanted to pursue criminal work, but after an internship in that field, she quickly realized it wasn’t for her. She then thought about going into family law, but that didn’t feel right either. “For me, one of the advantages of estate planning is that you're really, truly helping people, and you feel like you've made a difference in their lives in a positive way. It’s a very meaningful practice.”

Schedule a meeting with Larry Bray, Julia Denby, or their colleague, Carlisle Dale, who also sees clients in Brentwood. Then, set up an estate plan that’s right for you and your family.

LUXURIOUS LAKE HOMES

BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

While there is a lot to do in Tennessee, it’s always fun to travel a little farther from home and just get away from it all. One popular destination is Crane Hill in Alabama. Nestled at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains and featuring Smith Lake and freshwater streams, it offers plenty of recreational opportunities. Located off Route 65, the picturesque countryside drive is a pleasure in itself and prepares one’s mind and body for a relaxing, nature-infused experience.

Crane Hill is where many Tennesseans enjoy second homes, often with incredible lake views. To help with the purchase of these properties, buyers often turn to Justin Dyar (also known as Mr. Smith Lake®).

“The lake is definitely my specialty,” he says. “My family’s had places on the lake since I was young, and I’ve always lived on the water. My whole team also lives on the lake, and because we experience it ourselves, people come to us because of our knowledge of the area, the properties, and the lake itself.”

Most of his clients live within a three-hour radius of Crane Hill and are looking not only for a beautiful place to spend time with family and friends, but also for a sound investment. “Many of our properties offer rental income because this area is a real vacation spot, and renting out the property will help to offset expenses,” says Justin.

Rental income can yield a high return on investment, especially in highly desired locations, such as those with waterfront access and proximity to entertainment, dining, and activities.

One of these properties, with over 10,000 square feet of combined living and covered space, checks all of those boxes. Located at 150 County Rd 4232, and right on Smith Lake, it’s aptly named

Sky Cabin. “It has a massive water view because it’s elevated off the lake, and the sunsets are just incredible.”

The materials found on the outside of this custom-built house, such as its exterior wavy-edge cedar siding sourced from Haida Forest Products in Canada, metal roof, and stone, fit right in with the landscape and create a treehouse effect. From the inside, the large windows throughout bring the outdoors in and flood the rooms with light, while showcasing the views of the lake and the mountains.

The open-concept main floor features a wood-burning fireplace, Australian Cypress hardwood flooring, and an amazing screened-in porch that spans the entire length of the home, making it a great place to dine or just relax. The chef’s kitchen has a Lacanche range, Miele dishwasher, Scotsman® ice maker, and a Sub-Zero refrigerator, and also offers incredible lake views.

“Most people, when they look at this house, feel that it’s timeless and will never age out of style just because of the architecture,” he says. “It feels like a lake house, but it’s not too dark or too rustic and appeals to a wide pool of people.”

The house is designed to accommodate large groups. The main house has two bedrooms and two full bathrooms. One of these large bedrooms is located on the lower level and has custom built-in bunks. This level also features a media lounge area, a beverage station with a built-in sink/bar, and a covered outdoor terrace. There’s even a home gym. The guest wing has three additional bedrooms and three full baths.

While the inside is impressive, the outside takes center stage. Spanning not one waterfront lot but two, it’s situated on approximately 1.3 acres and boasts 370 feet of crystal-clear waterfront with a solid stone shoreline. This allows for a good amount of space from neighbors, therefore affording a high degree of privacy.

“Every buyer who comes to us is obviously coming for the water, so they want direct waterfront as well as their own private dock. That’s why almost all the properties here have their own private boat dock.”

While most people picture a boat dock as just a place to park a boat, this custom-built King dock with HydroHoist® is a total entertainment space. There’s a swim pier, a bar, a television, power, and refrigeration.

“The dock was originally designed for two boats, but the owners enclosed one side of it and made it like an extension of the house,” says Justin.

Lake Homes Realty has a niche in Crane Hill because it focuses exclusively on waterfront properties. “That’s what we’re known for, and we deal with everything from very small cottages to mansions, so we really have something for everyone at Smith Lake. We also do a lot of land business where people can create their own space.”

BUILT to be worth the INVESTMENT

How Woodward Homes is redefining renovations and custom builds with craftsmanship, care, and client-first service.

One of the most meaningful investments you’ll ever make is in your home. It’s more than four walls and a roof; it’s your refuge at the end of a long day, the backdrop for birthday candles and holiday mornings, and the place where your family’s story unfolds. With so much life happening inside those walls, choosing the right partner for a renovation, addition, or custom build isn’t just important; it’s essential.

Enter Woodward Homes. Led by husband-and-wife team Mike and Elizabeth Jakubowski, the company is built on over 20 years of hands-on experience in the industry. After years of honing their craft with other companies, they created a business rooted in trust, craftsmanship, and a genuine commitment to the families they serve. From thoughtful renovations to fully custom homes, their team approaches every project with care, precision, and the confidence that comes from truly knowing what they’re doing.

“We learned a ton on what to do, but more importantly, what not to do,” Mike explains.

“When we started our business, it was solely focused on let’s do a quality job, the best job that we can, and give people a good product, but also make sure that we’re all over customer service and whatever our customer needs.”

That philosophy is reflected in the way Woodward Homes structures its entire process. Thanks to their business model, clients can rely on the team as a true one-stop shop. From the very beginning, they handle the measurements, draft the initial concepts, and immediately begin designing a floor plan tailored to both vision and budget. Instead of sending homeowners from one firm to another, they present a clear picture of what’s possible for the price, keeping everything under one roof and ensuring that the experience is seamless from first sketch to final build. The result is a home that feels as beautiful as it is practical, where thoughtful design meets everyday livability.

“The design is always client-driven,” Elizabeth explains. “You try to balance the design with really well-thought-out function-ability and listen to people, and it usually ends up working out pretty well and not being something too trendy for them, but giving them something new, fresh, and really functional for them.”

No two projects look the same, and that’s the point. Each home reflects the priorities and lifestyle of the family living in it. Mike has noticed a growing number of clients requesting features like red light saunas, a sign that homes are increasingly being designed with health and wellness in mind. But while many homeowners focus on what they’re adding, he encourages them not to overlook what may already be there. Houses built before 1978 should be properly tested for lead and asbestos before any renovation begins. Though these steps are often skipped, Mike emphasizes that protecting a family’s health is just as important as creating a space that feels beautiful and new.

“It definitely feels really good to work together because we’re always trying to ensure the best product we can, whether that’s through the design phase or through the construction phase,

“She thinks I am the heart of the business, and I think she is. I couldn’t do this without her,” Mike says.

because we do work together,” Elizabeth says. “We’re just always coordinating, no matter what time of day, so it works out really well for the client as well. We just always want to do a really good job and make people happy.”

For Mike and Elizabeth, the business is about more than building homes; it’s about building something together. They both light up when talking about what it means to run a family company side by side, and they admit it’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. Even more special is the thought of what’s ahead: they can’t wait for their kids to grow up and, hopefully, take part in what they’ve created.

That shared foundation is what makes their partnership work so well.

“The best part about working together is I know her strengths and weaknesses, and she knows mine, and we definitely play off that,” Mike says. “She thinks I am the heart of the business, and I think she is. I couldn’t do this without her.”
