THE PAULA HINEGARDNER GROUP’S TIPS FOR SELLING YOUR HOME THIS SPRING! Tour your own home. Walk through your home with the eyes of a potential buyer. Look for possible small improvements, such as painting a wall or adding f resh-cut flowers, and take out personal items that may deter buyers f rom envisioning themselves in your home. Stage your home inside and out. Buyers are looking for a safe, warm, and welcoming first impression. A little bit of landscaping or sprucing up curb appeal can make all the difference in a buyer’s opinion of your home. Adapt to changing times. 89% of buyers desire energy efficiency in their new home. Energy Star-qualified windows, washing machines and dishwashers will limit utility bills, minimize water use and draw in buyers to your property. Don’t over-upgrade. Quick home improvements have proven to be more beneficial than full-blown makeovers. A huge project will likely cost you more than you will get in return on the sale. A fresh coat of paint, new cabinet hardware and a repaired leaky faucet are some ways to demonstrate pristine home maintenance, while keeping costs low. Light it up! Buyers do not want a dull, mundane home, so open up the curtains, clean the lampshades and provide potential buyers with a bright and radiant visit. Maximize natural light and add incandescent bulbs to incite positive thoughts in potential buyers.

LEAGUE BASEBALL AND WINNING A WORLD SERIES RING. His lifelong dream advanced quickly when the tall, lanky, right-handed pitcher signed a baseball scholarship with the Ole Miss Rebels, earning a letter in his first and only SEC season in 2000. Realizing how much he missed his family and the West Coast, Brett transferred, thinking it might improve his prospects. “In hindsight, I wish I would have stayed at Ole Miss,” he told Brentwood Lifestyle. A nagging elbow injury that required surgery ended his baseball career in 2003. Although he was disappointed, it wasn’t long before he realized trading his baseball glove for a guitar allowed him to focus on music. The career transition has paid huge dividends, even though the road traveled has taken unexpected twists and turns. “Brett had to be out of baseball completely before he could love music,” says Brad Young, who, along with Brett’s mother, Janice, has relocated to Middle Tennessee. “To be honest, it was hard seeing his baseball dreams end, but we knew he would be successful in whatever endeavor he chose.” He hit the bar and club circuit, singing his songs to whomever would listen. “I’ve played some lonely places,” Brett notes. “It makes you appreciate seeing the thousands of fans singing along to our songs today.” Wanting to improve his songwriting skills, Brett moved to Arizona in 2008. That’s when a lovely Arizona State co-ed, Taylor Mills, caught his eye. The aspiring artist eventually moved back to California. Not knowing if the relationship could ever work, Brett got the answer when Taylor reconnected via text. Shortly after, she moved to L.A. to begin a career in the upscale fashion industry. “I was working hard at a wonderful job with Nordstrom,” Taylor noted in a joint interview with her husband. The couple’s relationship challenges peaked when Brett decided to pursue his dreams in Nashville. “That was a hard period,” confides Taylor. “The time and travel distance strained our relationship, so we broke up.” Time also has a way of bringing people together. Taylor and Brett are a perfect example.

Disappointed that his relationship with Taylor couldn’t parallel his musical aspirations at the time, Brett did what most great songwriters do. He began writing songs about his true love. The move would ultimately pay both personal and professional dividends. “I always knew Brett was going to make it in Nashville,” says Taylor. After 10 years of honing his skills, Brett’s career exploded. In 2014, one year after arriving in Nashville, he signed his first record deal. He released his first single in 2016. “I missed Brett a lot and was hearing him on the radio,” she adds. The couple had found new relationships. “It’s funny because I reached out to Taylor for relationship advice much like we previously faced,” a smiling Brett says, glancing at the glowing mom. “She was in a serious relationship, but we both decided we belonged together.” With several years of “togetherness” behind them, the attractive couple wasted little time planning their future. The chance to share his life with Taylor gave Brett what he desired most; a soul mate to share his success. Brett proposed at the Graduate Hotel in Oxford, Mississippi, near the grounds where his baseball career peaked. They married in late 2018 in what one could call an “official” ceremony in Music City, followed by a “more formal and festive” ceremony in California. The following year, his music career continued upward even as the duo learned a precious little girl named Presley would arrive that fall. After years of opening for other acts, Brett’s name was now atop the marquee. In April of 2019, he began a tour with Kelsea Ballerini that kicked off in Knoxville. (Note: It was the first time I saw Brett perform. What struck me most was how every young girl and her mom sang along to every song. When I mentioned that to him, he smiled. “That’s what I’m striving for. It’s been an intentional goal of ours to write and produce ‘PG-13’ songs that moms can sing with their kids.”) Taylor and Brett started planning how to deal with dad’s absence when tours began canceling. Although he realizes performing in front of his growing fan base is essential, the time at home with are moments that Brett cherishes. 34

That’s exactly what Callie is, and we’re confident our new customers and neighbors will agree.” The expected price range for 3,000 to 5,000 square foot homes should range from $900,000 to $1,400,000. “Many of the custom home buyers we work with expect luxury finishes, yet are asking for smaller lot sizes,” says Brandon. “How we design Callie allows us to meet their needs without compromising on quality or location. We feel this development is ideal for many homeowners as their home needs mature.”

Two Brentwood sweethearts leave their hearts out on the medical battlefield each day for the many, many others they try to protect against COVID-19 and other life-threatening conditions. Ask this married couple what they’ve planned to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and they have a hard time being self-focused, other than to share they’re seeking new ways to “decompress.” No kissing or hugging can occur for this couple after work until they change clothes, decontaminate and call all-clear for their three children who are 3, 8 and 10 years old. As a self-confessed, lowkey germophobe, Michael says he followed a strict routine even before the recent pandemic. “Our kids are used to asking, ‘Can I touch you?’” They remember frequently communicating with each other in various forms over the past year, and recall being constantly concerned about what if one or both of them got ill. “So much fear and uncertainty make you cling to what you love and know,” says Aima. Both of them already received their coronavirus vaccinations, and are encouraging other minorities to do so, too. They also both have shared American discoveries about this disease with fellow colleagues in Nigeria in hopes of helping around the world. With being busier than usual through a surreal period of time, these two health care heroes are avid bicyclists, sharing that hobby with their children now, along with taking up fishing.
“THROUGHOUT THE PAST YEAR OF UNCERTAINTY, I PINGED AIMA TO TAP INTO HER KNOWLEDGE OF DISEASES AS WE DETERMINED EMERGENCY ROOM POLICIES AND PROTOCOLS. SHE FORWARDED SUMMARIES OF EVOLVING MEDICAL FINDINGS, AND WAS MY SOURCE FOR HIGH-QUALITY TAKEAWAYS REGARDING CORONAVIRUS,” REVEALS MICHAEL ABOUT HAVING HIS ‘OWN PERSONAL INFECTIOUS DISEASE ADVISER .’

is to somebody’s confidence and their relationships.” Brittany adds that while they chose Shannon as the ultimate winner of the glam giveaway, she and Jason decided there were other applicants they felt compelled to help. They chose an additional six applicants and personally paid for their smile to be fixed by Dr. Kasiar as well. “When you know something is going to impact someone’s life so positively, why wouldn’t you do it if you can?” Dr. Kasiar explains, “My responsibility was to make sure I got through every one of those 1,000 videos. It took me two or three weeks to watch them all. It was my entire day, between patients, after work, laying in bed. They had stories you can’t believe – what these people have gone through. There were a lot of people in need. When I gave Brittany the 20 videos and asked her if she’d had it nailed down yet, she said she had it nailed down to 19! Even Jason got involved due to the emotion involved in watching those videos.”

CHANGING THE WORLD ONE SMILE AT A TIME (CONTINUED)
So what was it about Shannon that led her to the ultimate prize? “Initially, I didn’t know what I was looking for in a winner. I was just watching with an open heart and open mind. Everybody’s story was so different. That’s what made it very difficult to choose just one. Shannon was so intelligent, so well spoken and she wanted to have a future in public speaking but wasn’t confident enough. That’s what broke our hearts about it. Her future is so bright and she has teeth that she’s not confident about. We wanted to give her that because we know the sky’s the limit for her. We knew there was something really special about her,” answers Brittany. Shannon asserts, “I was already a happy, positive smiley person but everyone says since this has happened, my confidence has gone up a bit. They’d say, ‘I don’t know why you don’t like your teeth. I like your smile.’ But I had to feel it. It has already and will continue to change my life. And everybody involved in the process has been so helpful since day one and it’s such a good feeling to feel like everyone else is excited too. I feel very very lucky. I know how badly I wanted something like this. Everything fell into place and was meant to be.” Dr. Kasiar wants the goodwill to continue. “Throughout the whole process of the giveaway we kept seeing so many people in need of dental treatment, but either couldn’t afford it or didn’t have access to it. Luckily, we were able to help a total of seven individuals and change their lives by giving them their smile back. We wanted to help everyone but just didn’t have the means to do it. So to help even more people get access to the dental treatment they need, I founded Second Chance Smiles which is a nonprofit organization that will help raise money for this cause. Our hope is that we can transform many more lives through this organization by raising the money necessary to give people their smile and confidence back.” 3991 Carothers Parkway, Franklin ThePracticeTN.com THE GLAM SQUAD Hair: Melissa McNabb @sweetmelissamidtown Makeup: Beck Wainner @madebybeck87 Stylist: Cherie Kilchrist @cheriekilchriststyle

“A man fell off his bike and apparently suffered a heart attack. That man over there,” pointing at Frist, “saved his life. I’ve never seen anything like it.” My former boss stood about thirty yards behind the ambulance, looking down at his phone. I walked straight toward him. “Bill, what happened?” “That man,” pointing to the ambulance, “suffered a massive heart attack, and I had to revive him. You know, most people don’t like to use mouth-to-mouth resuscitation techniques, but that’s the only real way to immediately push air into the lungs,” he casually said, as if advising a group of medical residents. Today wasn’t the only time I had witnessed Bill Frist exercise a “collective calmness.” If needed, he wouldn’t hesitate for a second to save any life, and we would be damned lucky to have him around. I’m confident David Miles feels the same. LIVING TO RIDE ANOTHER DAY After the ambulance left, we realized no one knew the injured cyclist’s name. A rumor circulated that he had died, yet no one knew for sure. Before leaving, Bill asked me to relay any news if I heard anything. The following day I called the Williamson County Sheriff’s department to inquire about the rider’s fate. Did the rider survive? Privacy laws make learning such information challenging. I spoke with the public affairs officer, who, at the time, wasn’t aware of the incident. I relayed Sunday’s event and informed her that Sen. Frist had saved the man’s life and that I would appreciate any information if and when it was available. Weeks later my phone rang. It was David Miles. He was told that I had inquired about his condition. More importantly, he wanted to thank Bill Frist and everyone involved in saving his life. Miles was transported to St. Thomas Hospital and admitted into their cardiac intensive care unit. After a series of tests, Dr. Mark Robbins placed a stent in Miles’ artery on Monday. He was released on Tuesday, just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day with his now fiance, Karen Paris. The following week he was back at work and in the gym days later. After having minor repairs made to his bike, Miles rode 25-miles on March 26. What stood out when I began writing this story was where everyone’s individual account of the day ended. Everyone expressed their own unique perspective. Yet, without fail, everyone made a startling similar comment: “If Bill Frist had not been nearby, David Miles would not be alive today.” Included in that sentiment is David Miles. “Lot’s of things happened that day,” Miles later recounted. “And if any one of those events were altered, I wouldn’t be alive. I am truly thankful for everyone who helped, and I am blessed to live and to ride another day.” I had to ask Miles one last question. Are you doing anything different after the incident? “I’m definitely going to church more and saying a few extra prayers. Something like this makes us realize how fortunate we are.” If anyone knows the identity of the nurse who assisted, please contact us so we can pass the information along to David. He’s also looking forward to personally thanking Sen. Frist. Please make time to learn CPR and other emergency procedures that could save someone else’s or even your life. Thanks to the generosity of others, Puckett’s restaurant now has a defibrillator. 66

Valentina’s background of 20-plus years in nursing includes all facets of patient care,
including cancer, which led her to helping a recovering cancer patient restore her lost eyebrows. It was then she says she realized helping others’ self-esteem was something she truly could be proud of and pursue as a career. She encourages questions about the salon’s specialties for post-cancer clients. “I have an artistic vision for each client,” she says. “Staying up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies is really important, and I regularly attend field specialized trade shows for continued education.” Microblading is a semi-permanent, cosmetic tattooing treatment that fills in sparse eyebrows. The technique uses a hand-held tool with needles to apply pigments that simulate additional hairs. The color fades over time, and touch-ups are recommended to maintain optimal results. Universal eyebrow microblading 3-D, with organic permanent makeup, lasts 6 to 12 months; Valentina suggests an initial touch-up in four to six weeks and then at least annually thereafter. 6-D microblading by Valentina uses a special European technique, with special organic pigment and blades, for a very natural look. She says the treatment takes about an hour to apply. It lasts up to 2 years.. 6-D microblading — also called eyebrow embroidery, eyebrow feathering, Softap technique or the Japanese method — applies semi-permanent makeup through a manual process of inserting organic pigment into the upper layers of skin to create the desired fullness and shape of eyebrows. 6-D applies a larger number of strokes compared to 3-D microblading. Related enhancement services that Valentina provides include brow lamination, micropowdering, tattoo erasing or corrections, laser hair removal, cavitation, radiofrequency facelifts, lips tattooing, eyeliners upper and lower lid tattooing and carbon pilling. 4908 Thoroughbred Lane, Suite B 615.300.1967 VTinaBeauty.com CityLifestyle.com/Brentwood
