Twenty-one years ago I came to Brentwood from Oklahoma to meet with the late legendary music executive Jim Foglesong. We had lunch at Phillip’s Delicatessen, and I can still remember my first impression of Brentwood like it was yesterday. Now 21 years later, I am overjoyed to call Brentwood home. I’m writing this brief letter to introduce myself to you and tell you a bit about my family, my business and myself. As a former high school and college wrestler, I moved to Nashville in 1997 to chase my musical dream. For over 15 years I played 200 shows per year and shared the stage with many of today’s country stars, including my high school buddy, Blake Shelton. In 2010, while coaching wrestling at Father Ryan High School, I decided to fall back on my Bachelor of Business Administration degree and move into the real estate world. This is when my life changed for the best! In 2011 I joined the admirable Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Woodmont Realty and quickly became the #1 top producing Realtor. Now, 7 years later, I manage the top team of Realtors, including my own mother Susan Smith, and several other friends/Realtors that I have recruited. We are honored to have helped over 600 buyers and sellers with over $200 million in volume production. In addition to real estate, I am passionate about sharing my love of youth sports in the Brentwood community. Wrestling and athletics were an important part of my upbringing, and they laid the foundation for important character traits such as accountability, strong work ethic, a positive attitude, determination and drive. These skills are what I attribute my success to as one of the top Realtors in all of Middle TN. Because of the impact that youth athletics have had in my life, I proudly coach the Brentwood High School wrestling team and give a portion of my commissions to support Brentwood Athletics. I am determined to make a difference in these young men’s lives. Coaching wrestling gives me the opportunity to impact future generations of young men and grow them into better men, future husbands and fathers, and citizens of our society. My wife, Susan Tucker-Smith, has been at the District Attorney’s Office of Davidson County for over 20 years. She works with victims of domestic violence and helps them through the court process. FEW KNOW HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL BETTER THAN EVAN BUTLER AND DECARLO WOODMORE. Former players at Mt. Juliet, Evan and Decarlo founded D1Highlights, a news service focused on the local gridiron scene. We asked D1Highlights to share some thoughts on the sport and to give us a heads up on what to expect this football season. TELL US ABOUT D1HIGHLIGHTS. We started it seven years ago to fill a gap in football coverage for the state, particularly here in middle Tennessee. But we are not a recruiting service. We are a news source strictly dedicated to high school football and do not take payments in return for coverage. It is well-known that if players are doing the right things on and off the field, we will cover them and through a variety of platforms—articles, pictures, videos. To date, we have the D1Highlights Podcast, D1Highlights Magazine, D1Highlights website and blog and, of course, a heavy presence on social media platforms. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON GOOD COACHING? The term “best-coached team" is relative to different criteria. For the public, it’s generally wins and losses. For us, it’s commanding the players’ respect and social responsibility. One of the best in the business, we feel, is Brian Coleman of the Summit Spartans. WHO IS THE BEST PLAYER YOU HAVE SEEN COME OUT OF WILLIAMSON COUNTY? The best player we have ever seen, by far, is Tyrell Dodson, formerly of the Centennial Cougars and currently with the Texas A&M Aggies. In high school, Tyrell possessed the size and speed of a D1 collegiate linebacker. Tyrell reached out to us his junior year and asked us to watch him play. He ran down backs and receivers and delivered some of the hardest hits on the high school gridiron we have ever seen! GIVEN THE HEALTH RISKS, DO YOU FEEL FOOTBALL IS LOSING ITS POPULARITY? We do not believe that football is losing popularity. However, we do feel that kids and parents are starting to feel that the health risks are not worth it. The odds are that most football players will not make it to the NFL. Young people realize this and set their eyes on careers that are less threatening

to their bodies. We feel the TSSAA which governs the rules has been very proactive about making changes to help keep the kids safe.
Battle of the Woods
WHICH LOCAL PROGRAMS DO YOU EXPECT TO DO WELL THIS SEASON? There are several high school football programs in Williamson County that are expected to make huge strides in the 2018 season. In D2 3A, the Brentwood Academy Eagles are the talk of high school football nationwide, winning their third TSSAA State Championship in a row. There are a few teams on the rise in this division that will give the Eagles a run for their money such as the Ensworth Tigers under new head coach Jeremy Garrett. But until something proves otherwise, we expect to see the Eagles with four state championships in four years. In D2 2A, the Battle Ground Academy Wildcats are our favorite pick to make it to the state title game if they can make it past the CPA Lions whom we consider BGA’s stiffest competition. BGA’s senior leadership and pure talent are why we are so high on them. In D1 Region 6 6A, look for a three-way battle with Brentwood and Ravenwood leading the way and Independence returning to championship caliber with senior T.J. R IT WAS A SPRING FASHION SHOW FOR THE FALL SEASON, BUT A MERE CATWALK WOULD NOT SUFFICE. Instead, a stage was needed, and a titanic one, too. Because upon it—and before a packed crowd

downtown last April—stood a group of larger-than-life hometown heroes: Jurrell Casey and Taylor Lewan, Kevin Byard and Delanie Walker, Brian Orakpo and Marcus Mariota. Each man his own person, each man blessed with his own particular skills and abilities, but each man also fused into a single, cohesive unit through the power of teamwork and the magic of style. It was the unveiling of the Titans’ new uniforms, a preview of the team’s seriously sharp new look. The crowd went wild. Let’s take it from the top, starting with the helmet. Gone are the two blue stripes, replaced by a single slash of two-toned silver. It’s a sword, a symbol that runs throughout the new uniform. The inspiration? Think Titans of Greek mythology, the primordial gods who battled the Olympians in what were arguably the first Super Bowls, a series of epic struggles called the Titanomachy. Also, think Parthenon and Nashville as the “Athens of the South.” It quickly becomes clear that the ancient Greek theme to our city predates even Music Row and hot chicken. Hence the sword element, appearing as well on the shoulders of the jerseys along with “sheaths” on the sides of the pants.
