Meet my new and incredibly sweet assistant Loren Ritz. Loren has joined me in my real estate journey to help my business grow to new heights. As a Boerne native with a finance degree from Texas A&M and previous experience as a loan officer, Loren is eager to combine her local roots and financial background to serve Boerne and the Texas Hill Country through real estate. Loren and her husband Stephen have two precious children, Lively and Meyer, and a crazy golden retriever named Rover. They love being involved at Currey Creek Church, gathering with friends and family, and Aggie football.
The finest homes are often defined by the moments held within them. Just as The Velvet Table curates the perfect setting for your most cherished gatherings, we curate the ideal property where those memories are made. Whether you are hosting a formal dinner or searching for a new space that perfectly fits your entertaining vision, we understand the art of home.
How About Some Fun This Holiday?
We’ve got you covered. From shopping and dining to river cruising, luxury transportation, and even celebrating your parents and grandparents, our writers and photographers have gathered some of the best places, people, and experiences to make this holiday season one to remember.
Just take another look at our cover star, Kimberley Blohm—shopping locally, of course— with a smile and plenty of determination. Treat your self to festive holiday delights while maintaining your healthy lifestyle (“Whole, Healthy & Bright for the Holidays,” p. 98). Or, do you want to know a secret? Try Rex Hausman’s sweet and delicious pear jam recipe, and be sure to make at least two jars! (“Sunlight In Love,” p. 104)
Feeling adventurous? A river cruise might be just the escape you’re looking for. We spoke with a local travel expert who explains why it’s the journey everyone loves, and why you will too (“Cruising to Connection,” p. 92). And since you’ve come this far, why not look your best? Lesli Dacy’s boutique, LD Bridal, offers stunning looks for the season (“A Season to Shine,” p. 34). To top it all off, enjoy a luxurious ride to the airport or to a dinner party in one of RCLLC’s premium vehicles. You may not want to get out! (“In the Luxury Lane,” p. 42)
This issue is our Giving issue, and what better place to start than with your own family? Chelsea Moreno of Morningside Ministries shares thoughtful insights on caring for aging loved ones:
“This is the season of grace, not guilt. If your loved one needs care or can’t do everything they used to, that’s perfectly okay. Focus on making memories, not on making things perfect.” (“Cherishing Holidays Together,” p. 62)
And if you’re looking for a local cause to support, we’ve got a sampling of amazing nonprofits to consider. You’ll be inspired by the work they’re doing to improve lives every day (“The Gift of Giving,” p. 82).
Finally, the entire Boerne Lifestyle team would like to thank you for giving us our best year yet. From the wonderful people we’ve featured to the local organizations like the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and our cherished advertising partners, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

NIGHTLASE ®
Sleep No Matter the Distance
As we age the flaccidity(looseness) of tissues increases. This is especially important for the entire airway. Upper airways become more restricted due to hard structures and soft tissue hypertrophy (Enlargement). The result is less airflow or volume. This resistance can be detrimental to sleep quality and athletic performance.
NightLase ® utilizes a twin laser system patented by Fotona Lasers. This procedure is a nonablative(no surgical cutting) technique utilizing laser impulses to tighten connective tissue, muscles, and their attachments to hold open the soft palate area and the upper nasal passages. The net result is increased airflow and volume during normal function, sleeping, and athletic performance.
This twin laser system is FDA approved for safety and effectiveness on the tissues treated. The standard procedure takes approximately 45 minutes and needs to be repeated 21 days apart for 3-4 sessions. No anesthetic is needed, and there is no downtime. Protocol maintenance is usually a one-session touch-up every 1-2 years or as needed.

to Shine A SEASON
This winter, bask in the magic of seasonal trends, timeless glamour, and finding your beauty.
I love beauty and I love art—the aesthetics, the meaning, and the way they intertwine. I believe I am capable of seeing beauty in everything because everything carries its own purpose, its own story.
ARTICLE BY LESLI DACY | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LEAH THOMASON PHOTOGRAPHY
What I love most about my work is the moment a client walks into the boutique and begins to share her needs, her hopes, or even her insecurities. When I look at her, I don’t just see a woman I’ve just met or an image to be filled in. I listen to her words and translate them into shapes, textures, colors, and designs that together begin to reflect who she truly is.
My gift is helping each woman discover what fits not only her body, but her personality. I’m looking for attire and accessories that bring out her light. She might even see herself differently. There is beauty in everyone, and I can help translate that beauty into a dress, a look, a reflection that makes her say, “That’s me.”
Now, during winter, it’s a time to celebrate. The air feels festive, the lights shimmer a little brighter, and every event becomes an opportunity to shine. Whether you are attending a fall or winter wedding as the mother of the bride, being honored at a gala, attending a fundraiser, or simply ringing in the New Year surrounded by friends, this is your time to sparkle.
This season, jewel tones are stealing the scene. Think about deep burgundies, radiant reds, rich emeralds, and shimmering ambers. Luxurious fabrics, such as lace, brocades, satin, and silk, are taking center stage, giving every gown a sense of depth, texture, and opulence. These details do not just whisper elegance—they scream it.
It’s also the perfect time to bring out your furs, sparkling accessories, and your favorite bold shade of lipstick (cherry is very much in again). If your celebration takes you to a snow-covered ranch, a glittering city ballroom, or even off to a sun-kissed holiday escape, winter invites you to embrace luxury and beauty in your own unique way.
Ultimately, a dress alone has no power. Hanging on a rack, it has no life, no voice. It becomes something only when you put it on; when you give it presence, movement, and light. In my boutique, every fitting is a small transformation. Sometimes it takes a few words, sometimes just a glance in the mirror, but then she finally sees what I have seen from the start. And even if she walks out without a purchase, she leaves with something far more valuable: confidence in herself. The knowledge that she can walk into any room or any store and recognize her own beauty.
That is the true art of elegance. That is the beauty I live to create. Especially during this time of year, when the magic of winter is all around. As invitations come in and celebrations unfold, step into the spotlight and let your style speak volumes. Celebrate the season. Celebrate beautifully. Celebrate you.

RCLLC TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TRANSFORMS TRAVEL INTO AN EXPERIENCE WHERE LUXURY, SAFETY, AND PERSONAL ATTENTION POWER EVERY MILE.
IN THE LUXURY LANE
Duane Roundtree has had an affinity for cars his whole life. It makes sense, then, that he turned this passion into a thriving business that’s redefining how people travel throughout the Hill Country. The holidays are a particularly busy time for Roundtree and his company, RCLLC Transportation Services, as holiday parties, galas, weddings, and other special occasions demand the premium transportation he provides.
“I
Because the “R” in RCLLC represents his last name, Roundtree says it allows him to continue his family’s legacy and maintain high standards. “When people are talking about this company, they're talking about me,” Roundtree says. “And obviously, I care deeply about that.” Being able to do what he loves and share it with others is what drives him each day. “I want the best impression possible to be made since it will be associated with my name.”
LIKE CHANGING PEOPLE’S PERCEPTION.”
“I like changing people's perception,” Roundtree reflects. “The feedback we're always getting is, ‘It’s so much more than I expected! I've never had a service that was quite like this before.’ And I get a kick out of that because to me, this is second nature.”
Life in the luxury lane for RCLLC began seven years ago when Roundtree transformed his car hobby into a side hustle that could support this obsession. Today, his business operates luxury multi-passenger vehicles with room for up to 14 people. They’re decked out, too, with TVs, surround sound, karaoke, WiFi, and comfortable seating configurations that transform an ordinary ride into a most memorable experience.
When you book with RCLLC, Roundtree works hard to keep the process simple yet customized to your needs. After inquiring via the website, he’ll promptly respond with a quote and assist with booking the reservation once it’s approved. Roundtree details his vehicles before each trip to ensure they look pristine for every client. He credits this meticulous attention to detail for many of the five-star reviews he receives. “I just do what I do,” Roundtree says. “I don't have a detail service that comes to clean my vehicles. I do them myself in my driveway. I take immense pride in that.”
During the holiday season, the need for group travel solutions becomes
“I WANT THE BEST IMPRESSION POSSIBLE TO BE MADE SINCE IT WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH MY NAME.”
more urgent, and that’s where Roundtree makes sure RCLLC shines. Whether it's a family gathering or corporate event, clients can count on top-tier service, on-time arrivals, and a travel experience that feels more like a well-executed event than basic transportation. “It's almost like inviting somebody to come and have a well-prepared meal,” Roundtree says. “Seeing them enjoy it, and then making a rave review about it, that's probably how good a chef feels.”
In contrast with low-cost ride-sharing services, RCLLC stands out with its nextlevel service. While other options may be budget-friendly, RCLLC focuses on providing connection, consistency, and luxury. “What birthed RCLLC Transportation was demand from people who want a consistent, high-quality experience,” Roundtree says. “This is for people who are very discerning and expect a lot more than what they normally get. RCLLC ensures they come away very satisfied.” rcllctransport.com | 210-317-7373

SHINING A LIGHT
Boerne Lifestyle Marks Five Years of Celebrating All That’s Good
Welcoming. Resilient. Relaxed. Traditional and forward-thinking. Honest and Friendly. Strong. Caring. Community.
These words don’t just describe Boerne and the Hill Country; they define us. Whether we’ve lived here for generations or just a few months, our hearts are rooted in the same soil. We are bound by a shared love for this place, for its people, and for the rhythm of life that feels both simple and extraordinary.
ARTICLE BY DANIEL GERTSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRITTANY DAVILA, KELLY JO JOHNSON
For the past five years, Boerne Lifestyle Magazine has tried to capture that spirit, to hold a mirror to the beauty, kindness, and grit that make this town shine. From artists who chase big dreams to businesses that serve with heart, from families sharing their struggles to neighbors who quietly make a difference, our mission has remained the same: to shine a light on all that’s good When we launched our very first issue in March 2020, we did so with a mix of optimism and wonder. “Hello, Boerne,” our cover said simply, a greeting that carried both promise and possibility. Inside those 36 pages were stories of encouragement from a basketball pro, a recipe by Richter Bakhaus, and a celebration of The
AgriCultural, that living piece of Boerne’s heritage. The stories were our way of saying, “We’re here with you. Let’s tell the story of home together.”
Five years later, so much has changed, yet our heart beats just the same. This issue—116 pages long, crafted by 16 local writers and photographers—overflows with stories that celebrate where we’ve been and where we’re going: winter fashion, nonprofits doing good, healthy holiday inspiration, and even a cherished family pear jam recipe. Nearly 13,000 homes and businesses will receive this issue, and more than 100,000 people will read it. As our town has grown, so too has our magazine. And our gratitude.
In October, we gathered to celebrate five years of storytelling with a few hundred of our closest friends, people we’ve featured, partners we’ve collaborated with, and community members who’ve championed us since day one. The night was filled with laughter and clinking glasses, heartfelt stories, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony courtesy of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce. It wasn’t just a party—it was a thank-you, wrapped in joy and gratitude.
That same night, we introduced something new: our “Lights of Boerne” awards, created to honor the people and organizations whose leadership, generosity, and heart illuminate our community.
We recognized three honorees, each one a light that burns bright for Boerne:
• A business whose success fuels service and strengthens the fabric of our town.
• A nonprofit whose mission lifts others with hope, purpose, and connection.
• A community member whose compassion and faith remind us what love in action truly looks like.
We are excited to recognize as our inaugural “Lights of Boerne” honorees:
Joshua Creek Ranch (Business)
Joshua Creek Ranch exemplifies community spirit, hosting more than 30 annual fundraisers benefiting children, veterans, schools, and nonprofits. Donating up to $200,000 each year, they champion conservation, youth education, and disaster relief, raising $24,000 for victims of the July floods. This premier Hill Country destination truly uplifts Boerne and beyond.
Boerne YoungLife (Nonprofit)
For 30 years, Boerne Young Life has served local teens, reaching over 1,600 students through faith-based connection and mentorship. Led by Metro Director Courtney Garrison, this devoted team inspires youth with inclusion, joy, and genuine care for the next generation.
Monay Boring (Community Member)
Monay Boring leads Christian Journey Courses, empowering others through faith-based life-skills training in jails and probation programs. Once a participant herself, she now mentors others while volunteering with Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries. We celebrate the way Monay embodies compassion, resilience, and transformative love for our community.
To our staff, writers, photographers, editors, and contributors, you are the heartbeat of Boerne Lifestyle. To our advertising partners and local businesses, thank you for believing in the power of storytelling and for helping us share it far and wide. And to you, our readers, thank you for inviting us into your homes and hearts. Thank you for your stories, your encouragement, and your trust.
As we celebrate this milestone, our hearts overflow with gratitude. We are humbled to be part of Boerne’s story, to walk these streets, meet its people, and witness your light. With your continued partnership, and God willing, we can’t wait to see what shines next. Because here in Boerne, the light never fades—it only grows brighter.

Five Generations, One Promise
90 YEARS OF FAMILY, FAITH, AND FLOORS BUILT TO LAST
ARTICLE BY REY LOPEZ | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOSHUA ALDAMA
Walk into Hicks Flooring in San Antonio, and you don't just step into a showroom; you step into a 90-year story. It's the story of families preparing for holidays, couples finally tackling a tired hallway, and homeowners restoring rooms after floods. For five generations, the Hicks family has quietly guided those stories, turning houses into homes one floor at a time with craftsmanship that feels both modern and timeless, rooted in care and connection.
Fifth-generation Operations Director Sydney Hicks laughs when asked for her job title. "I wear every hat you can think of," she says. "Whatever the day brings, that's what I do." She joined in 2023 after graduating from Texas A&M University, continuing a lineage that began in 1935 when her great-great-grandfather, Fred Hicks, opened a small goods-and-services shop. He quickly leaned into tile as San Antonio expanded, and through decades of change—from full remodels and cabinetry to today's focus on flooring—the family's foundation has stayed steady.
"The heart is family. That's always been our focus," Sydney says. Her grandfather Larry started riding in tile trucks as a boy, officially joined the payroll at 17, and bought the company in 1988, just as the savings-andloan crisis hit. Her uncle Carlton brings a big-picture eye and decades-long relationships with customers who've grown up alongside the business. Around them are installers celebrating 40-year anniversaries, employees whose children now work here, and clients who still call decades later to hear, "We'll be right there."
Every project begins with conversation, Sydney says. When customers walk in, they meet the Hicks family face-to-face—often several of them. There's no hand-off to another department; the same people who greet you guide you through design, installation, and
follow-up. "If you have a problem and call in the middle of the night, we'll come," Sydney says. “We try to make an overwhelming process feel easy and personal. Every customer becomes part of our story—and we’ll be there as long as they’ll have us.”
That care extends to what goes underfoot. Sydney is frank about the hidden cost of bargain buys. Many large retailers, she explains, sell "off-lot" or discontinued flooring that can't be matched later. At Hicks, every order is custom-made from trusted manufacturers, checked for quality before it reaches a customer's home, and backed by the Hicks Lifetime Installation Guarantee. "We have customers who got their floors 40 years ago and want us to fix something, so we send a crew," she says with a smile. "That's what family does."
The work itself reflects how people actually live. Waterproof laminate and luxury vinyl plank are popular for their wood-like beauty and resilience against pets, kids, and spills. Traditional wood flooring remains beloved among clients who appreciate its warmth and permanence. And when an older home needs restoration, Hicks brings craftsmanship to sanding, finishing, and saving what can be saved—sometimes pine floors laid generations ago—still shining beneath the dust of time.
That flexibility comes from decades of grit and faith. The company's first major storefront on Fredericksburg Road survived floods, fires, and economic downturns. Family lore tells of a nine-year-old Larry bumping along in a pickup to a tile plant across the border. Today, the Broadway location keeps the showroom and warehouse under one roof, allowing customers to meet the teams who'll be in their homes. "It feels more personal," Sydney says. "That matters to us."
“We try to make an overwhelming process feel easy and personal. Every customer becomes part of our story—and we’ll be there as long as they’ll have us.”
“My passion is serving people. This business is how we love our community, take care of families, and help make the spaces where life really happens.”
Perseverance has been part of the story, too. Sydney recalls lean years when "the check for payroll showed up just in time." She credits her grandfather's faith and the family's commitment to one another. "Business is hard," she says. "But when you've got each other to lean on, and you know why you're doing it, you keep going."
That's why it remains simple: community, family, relationships. "If you'd asked me a few years ago whether my passion was flooring, I'd say ‘no,’" Sydney admits. "My passion is serving people. This business is how we love our community, take care of families, and help make the spaces where life really happens.”
As Hicks celebrates its 90th anniversary, the sixth generation has already arrived. Sydney's brother recently welcomed a baby boy. The goal is another 90 years, evolving with the Hill Country's needs but holding to the same promise: do fewer things, and do them exceptionally well, always with integrity and heart.
Asked what Fred Hicks might think of the company today, Sydney smiles. "He'd probably be surprised we're still in flooring— and that a woman's running the store. But I think he'd be proud. We're still here, still serving our city, still taking care of people."

CHERISHING HOLIDAYS Together
MAKING YOUR SEASON MEANINGFUL FOR EVERY GENERATION
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSI EDISON
The holidays are a time for connection, laughter, and creating memories with the people we love most. Yet as loved ones age, it can take extra thought and care to make sure everyone feels included and comfortable. To help families navigate this season with warmth and intention, we turned to Chelsea Moreno, Chief Operating Officer at Morningside Ministries, which operates a retirement community at Menger Springs. She shares how thoughtful planning, meaningful activities, and small gestures can make a big impact. After all, the heart of the holidays is about togetherness for every generation. mmliving.org/boerne/menger-springs | 210-734-1000
1000 Grand Loop (Responses edited for length and clarity.)
The holidays are a time when families often spend time together. However, when a loved one is aging or requires individualized attention, it can sometimes be challenging to know how to help. Where should families start?
Moreno: Start with the heart, then look at the calendar. Before planning who’s bringing the stuffing or how many chairs you’ll need, pause to connect with your aging loved one. Ask what part of the season really matters to them. Maybe it’s a favorite dish, a long-loved tradition, or simply quiet time with family. And, yes, it may be fuzzy slippers and an old Christmas movie marathon.
This is the season of grace, not guilt. If your loved one needs care or can’t do everything they used to, that’s perfectly okay. Focus on making memories, not on making things “perfect.” Whether they’re joining you at home or you’re visiting them in their community, your presence will always mean more than your Pinterest skills.
When planning events, what should we keep in mind to ensure all our family members feel included?
M: Think of your holiday gathering like a potluck—everyone brings something special, and everyone leaves feeling full. Make sure the space is comfy and accessible: chairs with good support, bathrooms nearby, and enough room for anyone using a walker or wheelchair. Keep dietary needs in mind, because someone’s always gluten-free, someone’s watching their salt, and someone under five is living on crackers. Additionally, consider avoiding the “mall in December” volume level. Create a few quieter corners where people can chat or take a breather. Inclusion isn’t just about logistics; it’s about making sure everyone feels like they belong, exactly as they are.

The holidays can be special opportunities for older family members to interact with the youngest generation. How can we encourage that at our gatherings?
M: Kids have endless questions. Grandparents have endless stories. Magic happens when those worlds meet. Have older loved ones read a holiday story, help decorate cookies, or play “Ask Grandma Anything.” Trust me, “Did you have Wi-Fi as a kid?” is always a hit.
Faith reminds us that wisdom is meant to be shared, and there’s something deeply beautiful about watching generations laugh, talk, pray, and just be together.
Do you have ideas for activities that families of any size can incorporate into their holiday events?
M: Absolutely, and it’s not just bingo (though we’ll never turn down a good bingo game). Try a multi-generational trivia night with questions from different decades. Start a gratitude jar or tree where everyone adds something they’re thankful for. Pull out old photo albums or home videos. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the stories—and laughter—start flowing.
What do you think are some of the most important things to keep in mind when hosting senior family members this season?
M: Make sure the space feels welcoming: warm enough, well-lit, and calm. Don’t overload the schedule. If you’re exhausted after two holiday parties, imagine how Grandma feels! And remember, this season can stir up big emotions, especially after loss or change. Make space for those feelings.
The holidays aren’t about perfection; they’re about presence. Whether you’re gathered around the same table or connecting from afar, the heart of the season is showing up for one another.
Let’s make your next vacation unforgettable.

Stringing Up CHEER
Turn wooden beads and ribbon into adorable ornaments, gift toppers, or handmade treasures.
ARTICLE BY STACI ADAMS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY JESSI EDISON
Looking for a festive family craft that’s fun for everyone? This easy Christmas DIY is the perfect blend of simple, stylish, and budget-friendly. Little hands can help with the basics, while older kids and teens can get creative by adding their own flair, from sparkly accents to modern minimalist touches. The finished pieces double beautifully as ornaments, package tie-ons, or heartfelt handmade presents for everyone on your list this Christmas season. With minimal supplies, almost no mess, and quick cleanup, this project makes for a cozy afternoon activity you’ll all enjoy together.
Supplies:
• Leather string for necklaces, bracelets, and jewelry making
• Wooden letter beads
• Round wooden beads
• ½ inch Christmas ribbon
• Scissors
• Any extras you’d like to add: bells, holly, sprigs of faux pine
Step One:
Cut the leather string to length, making sure to leave enough for a 3-4” hanging loop. Choose a festive word with the letter beads. Thread the letter beads towards the center of the string so they sit at the bottom, then add an equal amount of round beads on each side.
Step Two:
Bring the two loose ends together and tie a secure overhand knot just above the beads to close the circle, snugging the beads into place. Trim excess string as needed.
Step Three:
Tie a small ribbon bow around the knot (or loop a short ribbon piece through the knot and tie) to hide the knot and add holiday flair. Adjust the bow, fluff, and hang. Be sure to tuck a sprig of faux greenery or small bells under the ribbon for a finishing touch.
There’s nothing sweeter than crafting with your kids during the holidays. You’ll create memories, laughter, and homemade treasures together. Discover more easy, festive projects at Red Ted Art , Crayola, and DLTK’s Holiday Crafts . You can visit them online and see where creativity meets tradition and crafts become holiday magic.

There’s something magical about the art of giving during the holidays. The joy begins long before the ribbon is tied: it’s in the search for that perfect something, the discovery of a treasure that says, “I know you,” “I see you,” “I thought of you.” Whether it’s a luxurious candle for her, a finely crafted keepsake for him, or a whimsical toy that lights up a child’s eyes, gifts become tiny expressions of connection, tokens that linger long after the wrapping paper is gone.
This season, we celebrate the delight of finding presents that sparkle with meaning and charm. From locally made favorites that showcase the heart of the Hill Country to trending must-haves that capture the moment, this curated guide is designed to inspire the giver in all of us. DIY Gift Wrapping That Stands Out During
The Season
ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON
‘Tis the season to get crafty, clever or characterized! Wellwrapped holiday packages create immediate enthusiasm and somehow seem to make gifts more meaningful. Whether going for shiny, vintage, colorful, rustic, playful or eco-friendly impressions, the following are some Do-It-Yourself gift-wrapping ideas to make the wrapping process even more satisfying. Simply applying jute twine to gifts provides a ‘less is more’ vibe.
ADD NATURAL TOUCHES TO CRAFT PAPER:
For gifts with a rustic, organic feel, use seasonal accents, such as sprigs, pine cones and cinnamon sticks, tied up with twine, encircling recycled paper for the wrapping.
FIRST INITIAL DECORATION:
In lieu of a gift tag, attach an oversized paper mâché letter of the recipient’s first initial to the top of the box. The letter then can serve as customized décor, too.
POLKA DOTS:
Wrap gifts in plain craft paper and then cut out big, multicolored polka dots to glue down. It’s hard not to smile at big, bright dots.
CARDBOARD BOX SNOWPERSON:
Wrap three or four boxes in white paper, with different gifts inside, and then stack them. Tape the boxes together,
the SEASON
tapering to the top. Glue buttons on the bottom ones, create a snowperson’s face on the top one, with carrot nose cut out of orange paper. Attach a real hat, if desired. Tie wider, festive bow around the snowperson’s ‘neck.’ Add a real corncob pipe for a bonus finishing touch, if preferred.
MINI TREE GIFT WRAPPING:
Pine needles and small tips of real tree branches make quick and easy mini Christmas trees that can be glued onto Christmas gifts. They will smell nice, too.
BOOK PAGE WRAPPING PAPER:
Repurpose old book pages by cutting out
shapes of dreidels, snowflakes, ornaments, candles or reindeer to paste on gifts.
DIY STAMP WRAPPING PAPER:
Wrap gifts in solid colors of paper. Secure ink stamps and an ink pad in a themed color(s), and stamp the paper as much or as little as desired.
UNBOXED:
Apply other types of containers, rather than boxes or bags, for gift wrapping; examples: canisters, pillow cases, baskets, fabric scraps, maps, glass containers, towels, blankets, scarves, Bento bags (also called triangle bags or origami bags).

THE PERFECT GIFT OF EXPERIENCE
As the holiday season fades, many of us find ourselves craving connection over consumerism and moments over material things. Planning a river cruise offers that very gift: journeys that blend culture, comfort, and community.
In a world that moves too quickly, perhaps the best gift you can give yourself or your loved ones is a journey where the only schedule is the river’s flow. From Boerne to the Baltic, and from the Mississippi to the Mediterranean, river cruising invites you to slow down, look around, and fall in love with travel all over again.

Whole, Healthy & Bright FOR THE HOLIDAYS
I’ve always loved the magic of this season filled with twinkle lights, Christmas music, and family recipes. But as adults, it can bring stress, sugar comas, and stretchy pants.
Here’s the good news: you don’t have to choose between joy and celebration or health and wellbeing. A series of small shifts can add up to massive changes. And if you start before January, you also increase your chances of hitting your New Year’s health goals by 67%!
I’m going to share five of my favorite shifts and swaps to help you stay festive, balanced, energized, and truly present through the holidays and beyond. vibrantvia.com
Simple (but Powerful) Nutrition, Cooking, and Lifestyle Tips to Support Your Health While Enjoying the Season
Get Off the BLOOD SUGAR ROLLERCOASTER
Festive Flop: Reaching for sugary treats—cookies, fudge, eggnog, and peppermint mochas—to “get in the spirit” sets your mood, cravings, and blood sugar on a wild ride.
Simple Swap: Choose natural sweetness with fiber and antioxidants. Indulgence is part of the fun, but frequent glucose spikes will leave you tired, irritable, and craving more.
PRO TIP Blood sugar balance is key to stable energy, mood, and hormone health. Every time you blunt a glucose spike, you’re reducing systemic inflammation and supporting metabolic resilience, which means you can actually enjoy your holidays and eliminate cravings, fatigue, and weight gain.
TRY THIS:
Order matters. Eat protein and fiber first to release satiety hormones and stabilize glucose. Afterward, walk or dance for 20 minutes after meals to pull glucose straight into your muscles or have apple cider vinegar in water to blunt a blood sugar spike by 40%.
Roasted apples or pears with Ceylon cinnamon for a sweet treat that’s high in fiber and polyphenols while supporting gut health and blood sugar.
Homemade hot cocoa made with unsweetened cacao, a touch of liquid allulose or real maple, and almond milk has less sugar and more magnesium to support calm nerves and sleep. There are also some great single-serving low-calorie hot chocolate electrolyte packets for adrenal support with a satisfying sweet and salty kick.
Choose Seasonal SERENITY
Festive Flop: Letting the holidays turn into a jam-packed calendar of social obligations and stress eating.
Simple Swap: Create mini moments of “non-sleep restorative activities” that regulate your nervous system and support your adrenals.
PRO TIP Before each meal, pause for three deep breaths and a prayer of gratitude. It shifts you into parasympathetic “rest and digest” mode, improving nutrient absorption and reducing bloating.
TRY THIS:
• Wind-down ritual. Read, take an Epsom salt bath, or spend five minutes in deep breathing.
• Say “no” gracefully. Setting boundaries and protecting your energy is self-care.
• Non-sleep restorative activity. This can be as simple as sipping tea from your favorite mug next to a fireplace or a window with a peaceful view.
• Eat mindfully. Turn off screens, sit down at a table, and actually taste your food. Pick one meal to eat intentionally and be sure to chew thoroughly to an applesauce-like consistency.
Add Whole Foods & PHYTONUTRIENTS
Festive Flop: Skimping all day, gorging at parties, and relying on boxed, canned, or processed foods.
Simple Swap: Celebrate colorful, seasonal produce. Eating a rainbow of whole foods makes our food more visually appealing while feeding the healthy gut bacteria that balance hormones, satiety, and inflammation.
PRO TIP Pumpkin contains soluble fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria, supports detox pathways, and promotes stable blood sugar. It pairs well with gut healing, anti-microbial, antioxidant spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves!
TRY THIS:
• A savory breakfast. Frontload protein at the start of the day and the meal. Think eggs with spinach and avocado, or a breakfast hash with ground turkey, sage, sweet potato, and kale.
• Add fiber & bitters. Dandelion greens in a salad with apple cider vinegar and olive oil before a heavy meal stimulates bile flow and liver detoxification—exactly what your body needs to process richer foods and those glasses of wine.
• Balance your plate. Fill half the space with non-starchy veggies, ¼ with protein, and ¼ with a root vegetable or grain.
Keep HYDRATED & MOVING
Festive Flop: Between late nights, heavy meals, and a packed schedule, hydration and movement are often the first to go.
Simple Swap: Start your day with a large glass of water with a pinch of salt or electrolytes, then go for a morning walk.
PRO TIP If you’re drinking alcohol, alternate with a glass of sparkling water with lemon or pomegranate seeds to stay festive and hydrated. Double down on cruciferous veggies from the crudités platter to give your liver some extra love.
TRY THIS:
• Natural red-light therapy. Morning walks have been shown to promote weight loss and reset your circadian rhythm, leading to better sleep that night.
• Move after meals. Take a 20-minute walk to enjoy holiday lights or do 100 air squats after meals to lower blood sugar, aid digestion, and reduce post-meal fatigue.
• Think cellular hydration. Electrolytes and minerals help water move where it’s needed most, and gentle movement keeps your lymphatic system flowing.
“Good
Enough” Beats “ALL OR NOTHING”
Festive Flop: Falling into the trap of perfection—strict clean eating followed by completely going off the rails—or throwing healthy habits out the window until January.
Simple Swap: Embrace flexibility and consistency over perfection. Missing a workout or having dessert isn’t failure; it’s part of a healthy, balanced life.
PRO TIP Your body experiences swings between restriction and indulgence as stress. Focus on rhythm over rigidity. Your mitochondria, microbiome, and mood all thrive when they can count on steady nourishment, gentle movement, and consistent rest. Remember: consistency creates safety, and safety creates healing.
TRY THIS:
• Batch cook. Prep some healthy foods in advance, like extra roasted veggies or grilled protein, so you can easily throw together a quick salad, bowl, or wrap.
• Choose what’s worth it. If your sister’s mint brownies are legendary, skip the store-bought cookies.
“MOVE WHEN YOU CAN” MINDSET.
Invite the family to stroll the neighborhood, looking at Christmas lights after dinner, or have a spontaneous dance party in the kitchen.

Sunlight In Love
INSPIRED BY PROVENCE, ARTIST REX HAUSMANN SHARES A PEAR JAM RECIPE THAT SWEETENS EVERY HOLIDAY SEASON.
FAMILY
Jams first caught my eye in Provence, France, where I taught next door to a candy shop. In the windows, bowls of fruit glistened in the sunlight as they slowly candied. When I returned home, I wanted to teach my nephews, Justice and Judge, to make something that says, “I love you.” Remembering my grandmother’s Mustang grape jam, my time in France, and the old Bradford pear tree in our yard, I thought, “We’ll make a pear jam!” To my delight, the fruit turned a golden hue as it simmered, like sunlight wrapped in love.
Whatever you cook this holiday season, may it remind you of a happy place. May it help create beautiful memories. And may it bring you and your loved ones together with each batch. rexhausmann.com
ARTICLE BY REX HAUSMANN PHOTOGRAPHY BY PAULA VM
• 2 cups pears, finely chopped
• ¾ cup granulated sugar
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice (or to taste)
directions:
Step 1. Finely chop the pears, making sure to retain the juice, or any fruit you want. Whether you’re picking them off the tree in your backyard or buying from the grocery store, you can use any fruit—or combination of fruit—your heart desires. Just get the weights of the fruit and sugar to be roughly equal.
RECIPEingredients:
Step 2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, bring the fruit and lemon juice to a boil on medium-low heat. The fruit and lemon juice should provide enough moisture to prevent burning.
Step 3. Add the sugar slowly, stirring continuously.
Step 4. Let simmer until it develops a “jammy” consistency.
Step 5. Remove from the heat and let cool, and enjoy within the next few days, or spoon the hot jam into sterilized jars and seal tightly to preserve.
