Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers spent are often not filled with constant activities and trips but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the "lazy days of summer" isn't always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s'mores by a fire pit, spending a day on the water, eating ice-cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky with someone you love. Swim meets and sunscreen are not reserved for parents alone, but grandparents and extended family, too, are at the scene cheering with absolute support and enthusiasm for our little and big swimmers. What better than this to bring in the summer? Lights strung upon trees to welcome the lingering friend or neighbor to say stay for a while. I like those sights and sounds of summer. I hope you collect a few of your own too! In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the happenings around our city this summer and ways to get out and explore together. Thank you to all that serve and give us a reason to celebrate our independence. We have an immense respect for the men and women who make the selfless decision to serve and protect our nation. The team at Lifestyle wants to thank all veterans, those still serving and all of their loved ones for your service. On July 21, Live at the Library presents a Buddy Holly tribute in the beautiful amphitheater at the Patrick Heath Public Library in Boerne. There is a break during August but the concerts will continue on September 15. You can expect to see a variety of musicians at these concerts held on the third Thursdays. ci.boerne.tx.us/197/Library Throughout the summer the Cibolo Center for Conservation hosts Moondance concerts on the Saturday closest to the full moon cycle. The lineup for the rest of the summer includes Dirty Rotten Swing band on July 24; on August 21 you can enjoy Big Cedar Fever from Austin; Blake Torrey goes to the stage on September 18; and October 23 features longtime favorite The Lost Mule Band. cibolo.org

Richter Boerne features solo guitarists in the area outside the Cork & Keg that can be enjoyed from the breezeway. Cibolo Creek Brewing has an outdoor venue, complete with picnic tables and a stage. Tapatio Springs has live music on weekends on its wonderful patio with an outdoor bar.

LAKE ROUNDUP ESCAPE THE HEAT THIS SUMMER Texas is blessed with fabulous rivers, lakes and streams to enjoy water activities and to just cool off in the sometimes springfed waters. Here are four of our favorite Texas lakes. Inks Lake State Park at 3630 Park Road 4 West in Burnet is great for a day trip or a weekend getaway. Because the lake’s level usually stays constant, you can play here year-round. On land, you can camp, backpack, geocache, play volleyball, picnic, and observe nature. There are 9 miles of hiking trails through shady forests and across rocky hills. On the water, you can swim, boat, water ski, scuba dive and fish. Rent paddle boats, canoes, one- to two-person kayaks, life vests and paddles at the park store. Stay at one of nearly 200 campsites or 22 cabins. There are two fishing piers, fish cleaning stations, and a boat ramp. www.pwd.texas.gov/state-parks/inks-lake Lake Corpus Christi State Park at 23194 Park Rd 25 in Mathis offers many activities. On water, you can swim, paddle, fish, boat, and water ski. On land, you can camp, hike, bike, geocache, and bird and nature watch.
The park has two lighted fishing piers, one of which is 400 feet long and wheelchair accessible. There are also two boat ramps and two fish cleaning shelters. Alligators live in the park. Stay in one of our screened shelters, cabins or campsites. Choose from a basic campsite with water only, sites with water and electricity, or full hookup sites. www.tpwd. texas.gov/state-parks/lake-corpus-christi Canyon Park is a 485-acre park located on the north shore of Canyon Lake near Hancock. This lakefront park is currently open from April 1 - September 30 on a first come, first serve basis. This is a day use only park. Canyon Park offers 104 picnic sites with grills, 3 pavilions available for rent, and one 3-lane boat ramp with a courtesy dock. It features a large sand swim beach with soccer goals and a sand volleyball court. Comal Park is a 116-acre park located on the south shore of Canyon Lake near Startzville. This lakefront park is currently open from March though October on a first come, first serve basis for day-use. It offers over 70 picnic sites, grills, two double-lane boat ramps

The lake is 63.75 miles long, has over 271 miles of shoreline and its maximum width is 4.5 miles. The lake covers 18,929 acres of limestone bottom offering crystal clear water. As the “Crown Jewel” of the Central Texas Highland Lakes, Lake Travis is the most visited freshwater recreational vacation destination in the State. Lake Travis parks allow for a variety of activities such as picnicking, grilling, swimming, hiking, boat ramp access and more. All kinds and sizes of watercraft rental options are available. Lake Travis has two zipline operators and four waterparks. There are over 20 marinas on the lake. www.laketravis.com/

Gather Boer ne Wonderful Food and Atmosphere
Set among heritage oak trees at 946 North School Street is a new addition to Boerne’s expanding list of restaurants. Gather Boerne is located in a 1920s structure with the surrounding lawns hosting outdoor picnic tables for diners. The reconstruction boasts of the structure’s original windows and floors, with some minor adjustments for the kitchen and bathroom areas. The team relied on Twin Sisters, in Boerne, as their consultant. The indoor rooms are light and airy with tables meant for two or multiple diners. The seating includes window benches and of course, dining chairs. Amy Brand, Paul Carey and Jessica Carey are the owners of Gather Boerne and have employed Ohio-born chef and baker, Clare Venditti. The offerings on the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus are tasty and healthy. A plethora of beverages, both adult and non-alcoholic, are available and food orders are taken at the counter and then delivered to your table. They are open from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Venditti has created a fabulous Sunday brunch menu as well. Ingredients are always fresh. The bread is from the Bread Box in San Antonio and most of the produce is locally sourced. Opened in February 2022, the trio has found thoughtful and energetic associates who were thrilled to get in on the ground floor of implementing the processes and procedures of a new restaurant.
