BOERNE LADIES, ARE YOU READY? Our May issue is dedicated to celebrating the women in our lives. As I reflect on the many women in my life, I am thankful for each one and the impact they have made. One of the best qualities a woman can possess is having confidence in herself, but at the same time being able to see the beauty and talent in other women and call out greatness in them, too. Women celebrating women and encouraging each other to succeed rather than competing with each other is so beautiful and rewarding. Encouraging and empowering the people in our own life can be something that comes naturally, but the impact of intentionally looking for ways to build up those in our greater community is so powerful. We all want to be seen, and when we share encouragement and consideration to those around us, barriers break down and warmth follows. In this month’s issue, we are sharing stories of women who have made their mark in our community in one way or another. We are also recognizing a few local entrepreneurs and women who are finding ways to give back to our community which has left me inspired. In a world that thrives on competition, let’s take time to encourage each other, appreciate the beauty in everyone and lift each other up, perhaps even a stranger. I also encourage you to take time to reflect on the inspirational women in your own life and reach out to them to thank them for their impact on your life. You won’t regret it. With women's empowerment at the top of our minds, this publisher is doing the same by passing the Boerne Lifestyle torch to a wonderful woman that has been in our community for years. She will be a spectacular publisher and we are lucky to have her. Our amazing editor, Connie Clark, and our wonderful photographer, Kate Cooley, will be staying on board. I would like to thank our exceptional Boerne readers, our generous advertisers/ partners, and the awesome team that brings this great magazine to our doorsteps. God bless and always family first. MOTHER’S DAY BRU NCH
Why not honor your mom with a Mother’s Day brunch that’s delicious and healthy? A woman’s need for calcium spans her lifetime, so make sure to include it in your Mother’s Day dishes. For expectant moms, extra calcium helps build the baby’s calcium stores while allowing mom to maintain her own skeletal health. Later in life osteoporosis can become a major health concern. Prevention is key. “It’s important to include high calcium foods at every stage of life,” said Melissa Crawley, M.D. at Texas Oncology–Boerne. “Osteoporosis also can be a particular concern of many cancer survivors, and people often benefit from increased calcium intake after they complete therapy.”

KEEP IT HEALTHY AND NOURISHING
CONSIDER ADDING THESE FOODS TO YOUR MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH MENU: Cheese. Quiche is a great brunch idea and the cheese in it is a good source of calcium. Cheese also provides high quality protein. Cheese is good in salads or casseroles, too. Almonds. Almonds have the highest calcium content of any nut. They are high in fiber and other healthy nutrients. For brunch, consider adding them by serving almond butter on toast. Broccoli and Kale. These green vegetables are storehouses of phytochemicals that protect the body and are also good plant-based sources of calcium. They can be steamed, roasted or eaten raw in salads.

Who is Weddings A Go-Go? Weddings A Go-Go, established in 2019 by Tracy Lindsay, ‘Mistress of Matrimony’. She created a chapel that can serve couples who are dreaming about having an outdoor wedding ceremony at the location of their choice. Less is More Every couple has had their dream wedding in mind for a while. Some want big weddings, and some need their special day to be intimate. Small and intimate weddings demand a specific format and detail. Small weddings are more manageable and also more affordable, and the setting allows the couple to be in control over the entire ceremony. Small weddings can be simple but elegant. From food to design, couples can manage their budget with more flexibility and choose quality over quantity. While having the freedom to pick and customize their wedding elements, they can also share the special day with their close friends and family. Mobile weddings can make all of this happen, plus the couple can choose the wedding location. Portable chapels are the best answer to a small wedding plan. Weddings A Go-Go's venue can travel anywhere that the clients want. The memorable and charming wedding options create an elegant setting for every wedding. Choosing a Weddings A Go-Go wedding package enables the clients to spend more of their budget on things that matter the most to them. weddingsago-go.com/

The Crowned Cheerleading Champions THE WOMEN AND PROGRAM BEHIND AN UNDEFEATED SEASON
ARTICLE BY SIENA GAGLIANO PHOTOGRAPHY BY KATE COOLEY/COOLEY PORTRAITS
The Senior Level 4 Team – Fuel, of Champions Cheerleading and Tumbling did not hide the outpouring of emotion after they were named Grand Champions, in addition to being awarded the prestigious Best Choreography title at the coveted NCA All-Star Nationals in Dallas. At the time, the girls’ tears of joy and gratitude for the title would lead some to believe that this kind of win is a rarity for them, but in fact, they are no strangers to the crown. Leading up to the grand championship event, the team won all eight competitions this year alone, eclipsing last year’s previous winning season.

Humbled and grateful after each victory, this all-star cheer team can contribute their success to more than just their will and determination to claim each and every victory. At the forefront of every accomplished team, it takes a community of mentors and leaders grounded in strong values and principles to shape athletes both in and out of the gym. At Champions Cheerleading and Tumbling in San Antonio, you’ll find just that. Run by powerful women including co-owner Wendy Geramita, former Smithson Valley Cheerleader, and Fuel Senior Level 4 Team led by award-winning choreographer, Erica Davis, this establishment is rooted in the philosophy that success is created by challenging its athletes through a supportive, positive community. Now averaging
around six to seven all-star teams per season, 120 competitive athletes, and running upwards of 700 students in the gym per week, Champions Cheerleading and Tumbling is not only the longest-running cheer and tumbling program in San Antonio and surrounding areas, but also is among the top ten longest-running gyms in the United States. This August is momentous as it marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of Champions, as well as the twenty-third year of all-star competitive cheer. Collaboration Connects Community and Resources STACI ALMAGER AND KIM BLOHM MAKE IT HAPPEN ARTICLE BY CONNIE MCFALL CLARK PHOTOGRAPHY BY KATE COOLEY/COOLEY PORTRAITS
Did you know that the Greater Boerne Chamber member roster of over 900 includes 110 non-profit organizations? That’s a large portion of the membership. And those organizations are centered around health, nutrition, art, seniors, foster children, trafficked youth, infants, trauma, life-threatening injuries, and pets – just to name a few. Because of the tremendous needs for services, support and recognition, the Chamber has a Non-Profit Council chaired by Staci Almager, Executive Director of Hill Country Family Services. Along with President and CEO of the Greater Boerne Chamber, Kim Blohm, these women have created a network to educate, advocate and connect the community, businesses and the organizations in need of assistance. Several directors from the non-profits make up the Council and meet on a monthly basis for networking and sharing ideas to assist the organizations. Collaboration is the key to the success of the Council. Collaboration of resources and services are discussed and implemented as needed for the greater good of the community and its citizens. Kim stated that Staci’s guidance has been invaluable to her as she learned the nature of the many non-profits in Boerne and how to connect them to resources and education. During the COVID months of 2020, a variety of resources were needed and so
many pitched in to serve the others. The community and businesses also took the lead in providing goods and services as the grocery shelves thinned out and many were house-bound. Many called on the Chamber to assist them and the Chamber staff was able to provide information to fulfill the needs. During the freezing days in 2021, Kim and Staci held multiple conversations a day to connect hotels with business owners and staff who needed to stay close to Boerne. For instance, the Hampton Inn housed HEB employees for the duration. The women coordinated services of the utility company and had others provide groceries and staples. They spearheaded continual activities and shared resources so that as many businesses and citizens were supplied with the essentials to make it through those days. Boerne is known for the generous nature of its citizens, businesses and non-profits. We can count on the continued support of the Chamber to advocate, educate and connect, thanks to the untiring, resourceful Kim Blohm. We can also count on the amazing leadership of Staci Almager to provide resources and guidance to the non-profit community and how businesses can assist. Many thanks to Traditions at the Depot for the beautiful fashions.

Cleopatra Talos
Mother, Wife, Musician, Realtor
24
B ACK STAGE | ARTS + CULTURE
Romanian-born, Cleopatra Ilie Talos, arrived in the US at age 19 with nothing but two bags and her flute in search of the American Dream; powered through hardship days, she made the most of her opportunities and is now living her best life. As a child prodigy growing up during the Communist regime of Romania, Cleopatra was appointed as the head soloist for the Romanian Orthodox Patriarch Chorale at age 10. She became a recording artist, professional classical flutist, piano player, toured the world with various music companies and philharmonics and has won numerous international awards for music performance. She started touring at the age of 10 and one of her greatest experiences was meeting and singing for Mother Teresa. Her contribution to the 1996 Summer Olympics as the Romanian Youth Cultural Ambassador determined Cleo to move to the U.S. when the time was right. In 1999 she moved to Los Angeles and won a scholarship to study music performance at UCLA where she earned her B.A. (Magna cum Laude), as well as her Masters and was appointed as the Graduate Fellowship recipient for the UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music. She also holds an Art Degree from USC. She won several prestigious classical competitions and was invited to be a guest soloist with the Pacific Symphony. Her Cinderella story takes her from supporting herself by working as a nanny and housekeeper to being the Vice President of Operations and Director of Personnel for Jude Frances Jewelry, LLC, to being a funding partner of Valahian Queens Belts, a custom leather women's belts and corsets line, adorned with solid silver or brass accents plated in 24K gold that were sold at Nordstrom’s flagship stores, as well as Nordfstrom. com and boutiques throughout the U.S., UK and Japan, and to founding Tysons Music Academy, a private music school in McLean, Virginia. She married her husband George in 2004 and they have two boys: Matteo, 8, and Lucca, 12. George is a
law enforcement official whose career has taken the family across the world from California to Virginia, overseas, and lastly to Boerne. While her husband was serving a diplomatic assignment in her home country of Romania for years, Cleopatra built a music therapy program for sex trafficking victims as well as coordinated fund-raising efforts. She also took a mentorship and Choir Director position at the American International School of Bucharest. After Boerne became the Taloses' new home, Cleopatra decided to switch gears once more and enter a field that has always intrigued her: real estate. She joined The Wagner Team, Cibolo Creek Realty, LLC in 2021 under the mentorship and guidance of Travis Wagner, broker/owner. Cleopatra is flourishing and is quite the rookie of the year in this third generation Fair Oaks Ranch boutique realtor team. She believes in putting people first and listening to understand each client's needs. She likes to describe it as the “music of real estate” and thoroughly enjoys it. She still plays the flute and sings whenever possible. She is a great songwriter as well – both the lyrics and melody. Her music, available on all major digital platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, etc, is inspirational and she has a strong message about women's inner strength and breaking socially-imposed standards. She dreams about using her musical background as a catalyst for helping youth; perhaps buying instruments for those unable to purchase them on their own. Cleopatra has seen both the beauty and ugliness in the world and is empathetic to others’ plights. She plans to launch The Music of Real Estate, a program for underprivileged students with extraordinary musical abilities who need funding to afford private instruction, instruments, mentorship, music production, and branding. I can see her making a big difference by sharing her kindness, philosophy, and music with others.
