be a little heavier. Deep red wines, amazing starchy veggies, tasty meats, wonderful cheeses, and maybe a touch more indulgence in something sweet now that we won't be walking around half-dressed for a few months. If we are lucky, some of this will be in front of a cozy fire when the sun goes down. With the holiday season sparking with our spooky end of the month, remember, this is the time to spend as much time with our loved ones as we can. They are only getting older and we should cherish every minute. We all know that we sometimes take them for granted as we have reached that "sprint" time of the year with everything going on. Just don't forget to breathe and enjoy what life has for you and your family, every day …

OFFERS FABULOUS TRIPS INTO THE HILL COUNTRY

Kristie Kniesel

“WHEN I MOVED TO THE AREA IN 2017 WITH MY HUSBAND AND SON, I WAS WANTING A CAREER CHANGE FROM MY FORMER TECH CAREER. I saw a huge need for transportation services, so I formed Hill Country Crown SUV.” Providing rides to the San Antonio and Austin airports and eventually focusing on wine tours, Kristie Kniesel saw a need and filled it. After extensive market research, she discovered that none of the numerous tour companies in Fredericksburg were interested in coming to Boerne to pick up passengers. "Since I was doing so well before and after COVID, I bought a domain and began building my specialty brand. Boerne Wine Tours boasts two vehicles now: a black Ford Expedition with three rows, able to seat seven people, in the luxury of leather seating; and an eleven-passenger Mercedes Sprinter Van,

with the high-roof." Teri Hauger, a Cordillera resident, has partnered with Kristie and obtained the van exclusively for Boerne Wine Tours. Both vehicles are already in great demand.

Kristie plans to expand her tours to the wonderful distilleries in Comfort, Hye, Johnson City and along U.S. Highway 281. She also introduces her passengers to a great lunch at one of the many eateries along the route. When asked about touring breweries, Kristie stated she didn’t want to take away from the fabulous breweries and brew pubs located in Boerne. Her favorite tour includes visits to St. Tryphon’s, Singing Waters and Bending Branch. Costs for the tours is included on the website. She credits her fellow members in Hill Country Women in Business for getting her first driving business off the ground. https://boernewinetours.com/

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

eating a colorful plate FALL COLOR IS NOT JUST FOR TREES

FALL ALSO IS THE PERFECT TIME TO START EATING A COLORFUL AND HEALTHY PLATE FOR YOUR DAILY MEALS AND FOR ENTERTAINING. From bright orange pumpkins to shiny red apples and vibrant blueberries, the color of each vegetable reflects the phytochemicals it contributes to a healthy diet. As you plan fall meals, consider Melissa Crawley, M.D. at Texas Oncology–Boerne

adding these colorful fall vegetables for flavor and nutrition: Apples provide dietary fiber and polyphenols which are plant compounds that partner with gut microbes to create an environment that may help reduce the risk of cancer. Blueberries are rich in protective plant compounds that may improve brain, eye, and heart health along with reducing cancer risk. Low in calories, blueberries are high in nutrients like fiber, vitamin C and vitamin K. Blueberries have one of the highest antioxidant levels of fruits and vegetables. When blueberries are frozen quickly after picking, they remain high in nutrients and protective phytochemicals for months. During the fall season, save money and increase convenience by choosing frozen berries. Pumpkin is flavorful, especially high in vitamin A, and linked to many health benefits. Pumpkins contain antioxidants which may protect your cells against damage by free radicals, highly unstable molecules produced by the body’s metabolic process. Excessive free radicals create a state called oxidative stress, which has been linked to chronic illnesses, including heart disease and cancer. Pumpkin can help boost your immune system, and it has been linked to maintaining strong eyesight as your body ages. Tomatoes are an excellent source of many vitamins. Protein rich, tomatoes are low in sodium and help blood circulation. “Good nutrition is essential to staying healthy and having the energy for optimal quality of life,” said Melissa Crawley, M.D. at Texas Oncology–Boerne. “Eating a broad diet, rich in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants, is important.”

I love the daily diversity and complexity and I feel I am challenged to nourish bodies as well as souls. Guests love our brand.” Cunningham’s organization has elevated the guest experience in the drivethrough, takeout and dine-in. Deliveries are available within a fifteen-minute drive. As a good steward to those who pass through his organization, “I hope they feel what I feel every day: I don’t go to work, I go to passion. I have such a sense of purpose that the employees can feel it.” When asked about his goals, Cunningham responded that he wants to create a benchmark of the guest experience and develop people to help them change the world in any industry. “I love watching people grow and reach their full potential. I am a dream manager and foster setting people up for success. They are able to make connections for whatever they choose to do later on.”
