When you hear the word “invest” what comes to mind? Finances? The stock market? Savings? Now, think a little more outside the common definition, what else comes to mind?

This was the same thought I had one day when I was teaching. My second graders and I would play a version of Wordle. They loved guessing the word and were just as excited to learn what the word meant. One day our word was “invest”. I asked if anyone knew what the word meant. At the time we were doing a unit over inventors, so they thought the word might be related. Giving them a kid friendly definition, I told them, “When you invest you take money you already have and save it to try and make more money.”
That was definitely a challenging concept for second graders to understand. I gave them a few examples that related to them. I told them at school we invest every day. We invest time into our learning. When we are supportive and kind to others, we are investing in our friendships. By helping to keep our hallways and cafeteria clean we are investing in our school community.
While investing and finances are very important, they can sometimes be complicated and feel heavy. The word “invest” doesn’t have to solely revolve around money. This month’s issue is filled with different ways to invest in people, places, your health, your community, and things that matter to you. Those are some of the topics and stories you will find in this month’s issue. From creating special moments with family, caring for your health, improving your home, there are many ways to positively impact your surroundings for yourself and others.
So take a moment to think: “What can we invest in?” Your answers might surprise you!

The Brown Team at Sage Door Realty is hosting a Home Buyers Class on Tuesday, April 14, at 6:30 PM. The session is designed to guide prospective homeowners through the process of purchasing a home, offering expert insights, practical tips, and tools valuable at any stage of the home-buying journey. Classes will be offered both in person and virtually, providing accessible information to a wide range of participants.

Home improvement tips that can add value to your home
Homeowners invest a lot of time and money into their homes, but they don’t realize that not all upgrades truly increase the home’s value. Whether you’re selling your house now, in a few months, or in a couple of years, making strategic improvements matter. Over-improving, neglecting necessary repairs, or cutting corners rarely produces the return homeowners hope to attain.
So who can help homeowners with their property to ensure that they add the maximum value to their homes?
Christina and Steve Brown of The Brown Team, are a local husband-and-wife realtor duo and owners of Sage Door Realty, LLC. They guide homeowners through smart decisions that protect and grow property value.
“I actually got into real estate first in 2005,” Christina said. While living in Colorado Springs, Christina and Steve were preparing to sell their home. During that process, Christina was essentially recruited into real estate. Five years later, Steve started helping behind-the-scenes with technology, before eventually getting his license and diving in full-time with Christina.
With over 20 years of experience, the Browns help clients make decisions that support their interests and long-term goals.
“We tell our buyers three basic rules when determining if a home is the right one: buy well so you can sell well, don’t settle, and follow the 80/10/10 rule. You love 80% of the property, there’s 10% you would change, and 10% you can live with.”
Many homeowners don’t realize a real estate agent can be a valuable resource even before they decide to sell. The Browns recommend checking in with an agent before starting any renovations. Receiving the right guidance can help you make smart choices for renovations and avoid wasting time or money.
According to the Browns, these improvements consistently deliver the strongest return:
ARTICLE BY TYLER LONG

“Reach out to us if you are thinking of renovating prior to selling. We don’t want to see our people spend money on repairs that will not pay off for them in the end.”
Buyers want to know that the roof, foundation, windows, and mechanical systems are all well maintained and in good working order. Routine maintenance like servicing the HVAC system and repairing fixtures shows the home is well cared for.

This does not have to cost a lot of money, but makes a significant impact on how a home feels. A clean, organized space appears larger, better taken care of, and more inviting. This includes making sure the home smells fresh and clean. If buyers feel like a home is a fixer upper, they will expect a fixer-upper price.
First impressions matter! That starts before buyers walk in the door. Having trimmed and cared for landscaping, colorful plants, a clean front entry, freshly painted door and trim, and a new welcome mat signal pride of ownership before buyers even step inside.
A professionally sourced paint job brightens rooms and creates a clean, welcoming space. Neutral tones allow buyers to envision their own furniture and decor. Even small touch-ups on doors, trim, and baseboards makes a polished impression.
Most days, we find ourselves taking photos. Whether it’s a picture of a delicious meal we’re about to enjoy, a gorgeous sunset, our pet making a cute face, or a child smiling as they play, we capture it all. If you’re anything like me, you likely have thousands of images saved on your phone. Each image marks a milestone and tells a small piece of a story.
But when was the last time you intentionally stepped in front of the camera?

Megan Cason, owner of Case Studios Photography in Blue Springs, believes professional photography is about more than just documenting a moment. “Photos are not just created for today, but for the years that follow.” Specializing in high school senior portraits, family sessions, and branding for local business owners, Megan helps preserve your current season of life with purpose.
As a boutique studio, Megan approaches each session with intention, recognizing that every client has their own unique story. “Many people are not used to being in front of a camera, so when they have their photos taken they feel unsure and nervous,” Megan said. “My goal is to create a calm, guided experience from start to finish where clients feel supported.
Each session is carefully planned in advance, giving Megan an opportunity to get to know clients and help them feel prepared before stepping in front of the camera. This removes the guesswork and replaces it with confidence, which shines through in the final image.
If you are considering updated photos, Megan offers simple but impactful advice. Choose clothing that feels authentic and comfortable. Neutral tones and simple textures photograph beautifully and allow personality to shine. Select a location that supports the story you want your images to tell. If possible, schedule sessions in the early morning or evening for the most flattering light.
Most importantly, she encourages clients to trust the process. Thoughtful preparation and professional guidance make a meaningful difference, not only in the final images, but in how you feel during the experience.
Updated photos are a way to preserve your story with intention. Because, the moments we choose to capture today become the memories we treasure tomorrow.
Investing in updated photos that last beyond the moment

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.
A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.
Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?
A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.
Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?
A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.
Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?
A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.
“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”
Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?
A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”
Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.
This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

Two local nonprofits are stepping up to support families and individuals in need
ARTICLE BY KATARINA BREWER
When Alex Duval and Matt Hakes first met, they were teaching together at Blue Springs High School. Bonded by friendship and faith, they began to notice a growing need in the community for access to nutritious food. In July 2024, alongside their wives, they founded Many Parts, One Body. What began as a way for their families to serve together quickly grew into a community movement rooted in compassion, connection, and caring for neighbors.
Early on, they focused on delivering homecooked meals, dropping groceries at doorsteps, and catering for shelters and foster care facilities. As the organization grew, they realized they could make an even greater impact by providing monthly grocery support to local families. They also partnered with other nonprofits to extend their reach. By catering fundraising events, such as those benefiting Missouri Disabled Sportsmen, they’ve helped save thousands of dollars, allowing for those funds to go directly back into the mission.
Many Parts, One Body remains deeply involved in the community through local events and partnerships. On May 29, they’ll host a cornhole tournament fundraiser for the Blue Springs Education Foundation to benefit the Kids R.O.C.K. fund, all while continuing their monthly grocery support for local families.
That commitment to service also extends to the next generation. With their backgrounds in education, Alex and Matt launched the Servant Leadership Academy, introducing students ages 12–16 to community service and creating more than 1,000 volunteer hours in its first year alone.
Looking ahead, the team hopes to launch a free community food truck that brings meals directly to neighborhoods and parks.
Supported by volunteers and sponsors, they welcome anyone who wants to get involved as they continue nourishing families and expanding their impact across the community.
Many Parts, One Body is not just providing groceries, they’re building a strong connected community, one act of service at a time.
OFFERING COMMUNITY AND SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES NAVIGATING CANCER
Facing a cancer diagnosis can feel isolating, but in Kansas City, Gilda’s Club is ensuring that no one has to navigate it alone. Since opening its doors in 2011, Gilda’s Club Kansas City (GCKC) has provided free, professionally led support, education and social programs to individuals and families affected by cancer across the metro area. Their mission is simple yet profound: to meet people where they are, address emotional and social well-being, and create a community of support that complements medical care.
GCKC serves patients, survivors, caregivers, children, and loved ones through a wide variety of programs, including support groups, individual counseling, educational workshops, and wellness activities focused on nutrition, stress reduction, and gentle exercise. They also offer social connection events, from comedy nights to game nights, promoting friendship and shared experiences. Specialized programs offer additional support for youth and families navigating the challenges of cancer.
Anyone impacted by cancer is welcomed at GCKC, regardless of their hospital system, insurance coverage, or financial situation. Programs are offered both in-person and virtually, making access possible for anyone, regardless of mobility or location. All programs are offered at no cost, allowing families to focus on connecting, finding support, and building community without worrying about financial barriers.
The impact GCKC has is life changing. Individuals and families consistently report improvements in quality of life, increased feelings of hope and reassurance that they are not alone, as well as a stronger sense of empowerment to manage their own or a loved one’s health journeys. By removing barriers, such as cost and location, GCKC ensures that support is available to everyone who needs it, while building stronger, more connected communities.
Looking ahead, GCKC hopes to expand its reach and deepen its impact so that every individual and family facing cancer knows there is a welcoming, supportive space available at no charge.
Community members can contribute through volunteering, financial support, corporate partnerships, or simply spreading awareness about GCKC and its mission. Every effort strengthens a network of care, proving that even in the most challenging moments, no one has to face cancer alone.

Redefining what it means to work out and why it matters
Investing in your health is deeply personal for Jacque Eidson, the owner bringing BODYBAR Pilates to Blue Springs. Her philosophy was shaped by her own cancer journey, a season when movement had to heal, not exhaust. Today, that experience shapes her studio and the way she invites locals to redefine what it means to “work out.”
For Jacque, true health investment means choosing sustainable movement rather than focusing only on short-term goals like vacation prep or a number on a scale. Quick fixes can create urgency, but they rarely lead to lasting change. Once the event passes, the habit often fades with it. The key question shifts from “How fast will this work?” to “Will this still serve me in ten years?” At BODYBAR, that answer is rooted in reformer-based Pilates that fosters lifelong strength, mobility, and stability.
“Health behaves like any meaningful investment. The return comes from consistency guided by intentionality over time,” shared Jacque.
BODYBAR’s model blends a modern, high-intensity yet low-impact reformer workout with a welcoming, community-driven environment, making it accessible to a wide range of ages and fitness levels. Founded on a mission to build a balanced, athletic, and real community, BODYBAR Pilates draws from
ARTICLE BY GRACE UTLAUT
classic Pilates principles with energetic classes designed to help you find your inner athlete.
Jacque saw in that mission a reflection of her own values: wellness as something you practice over time, not something you chase for a season. Bringing BODYBAR to Blue Springs was her way of offering that same opportunity close to home, creating a space where people can build strength that supports school drop-offs, careers, caregiving, and every ordinary moment in between.
Inside her studio, the emphasis is on meeting people where they are. A beginner, someone returning after injury, and a lifelong athlete can all share the same room and each be appropriately challenged because the reformer’s spring resistance adjusts to each body and each day. Some days call for gentler work and patience; others allow for intensity and growth. Jacque and her team create an atmosphere that encourages grace instead of comparison, while still keeping progress within reach and celebrating small, consistent wins.

Functional strength and longevity are natural outcomes of that environment. Slow, controlled movements on the reformer increase time under tension, building strength that carries into everyday life: lifting, reaching, standing, and moving with more support and less strain. Because the workout is low impact yet highly effective, clients can return consistently, even as their goals evolve from performance in sport, to staying active, preserving bone density, balance, and independence with age.
Just as important as the physical benefits are the mindset shift Jacque hopes to nurture: from “I have to work out” to “I invest in movement.” BODYBAR has always emphasized community as much as conditioning, and Jacque has embraced that fully, intentionally designing her studio as a place to gather, connect, and feel seen. Clients might come for the workout, but they stay for the relationships, the accountability, and the sense that they do not have to pursue health alone.

“Health behaves like any meaningful investment. The return comes from consistency guided by intentionality over time”
For Jacque, BODYBAR Pilates Blue Springs is more than a business. It reflects her belief that wellness should move with you through every season of life. Inside the studio, reformer Pilates becomes both a practical tool for longevity and a daily reminder that the most meaningful health investments are made intentionally, over time. With BODYBAR’s arrival in Blue Springs, that opportunity for lasting strength, movement, and community is now close to home.
