On several occasions, his wife and children have accompanied him as well.

“Plastic surgeons are trained to operate on all parts of the body,” Dr. Grosso says. “Training includes cleft lip and palate repairs and other craniofacial surgery, cancer and trauma reconstruction, burn care, wound reconstruction, microsurgery, cosmetic surgery, and the list goes on. We take care of patients of every age – from infancy through adulthood into geriatric surgery.”

His wife, Lorinda Grosso, MD, is a pediatrician, and their two children are Matthew (24) and Megan (21 ). “Matt is a music and video producer and owns Cloverleaf Audio-Visual in St. Paul, MN,” says Dr. Grosso. “Megan is pursuing a bachelor of fine arts in Musical Theatre with a Dance emphasis at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.” Matthew, Lorinda, and Steve enjoy visiting Chicago to watch Megan perform each semester.

Born and raised in Portland, OR, Dr. Grosso traveled across the country for his education and training, including Carroll College in Helena, Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for five years of general surgery residency, and University of Alabama in Birmingham, AL for two years of Plastic surgery residency. “After finishing my general surgery residency, I went on active duty in the Army and was stationed in Germany as a general surgeon,” he recalls. “I was deployed as a surgeon to Hungary, Bosnia, and Kosovo on 3 different missions. As a surgeon and a Major, I served as Chief of Surgery for the US Army in both Bosnia and Kosovo, and Chief of General Surgery in both Hungary and in Wuerzburg, Germany.” Once he had completed his training in plastic surgery, he sought a practice opportunity in the northwest that would allow he and his wife to be closer to family.The thriving medical community of Billings, paired with the appeal of outdoor recreation offered in the region (Dr. Grosso likes to hike, camp, fly fish, and ski), made it an ideal place to relocate. “I joined Walt Peet, MD, who was in practice as a plastic surgeon for over 30 years in Billings, and together we became Billings Plastic Surgery,” he

Overall, it is the wide array of patients and procedures that inspire Dr. Grosso and keep him passionate about his profession. “My oldest patient was 100 years old…no, she did not have a facelift, but I did repair a laceration to her forehead,” he adds with a wink. “I told her, ‘Now, go tell your friends that you had plastic surgery today.’ We both got a chuckle out of that one… Many people think of plastic surgeons as strictly cosmetic surgeons, and don’t realize that reconstructive surgery is also the domain of plastic surgeons. It’s just that the specialty encompasses so much variety. By the way, the term plastic surgeon comes from the Greek word ‘plastikos’, which means to mold or to shape. It has nothing to do with modern synthetic materials (plastic).” He believes that the strength of BPS is their staff. “Dr. Muskett and I thrive on offering comprehensive reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery to our patients, and we could not do it without the great team that supports us each day.”

POMPEY'S PILLAR NATIONAL MONUMENT Lewis and Clark led the Corps of Discovery across America into the wild western frontier, meticulously cataloging and journaling their findings and becoming the most famous U.S. exploration party to date. While their journey left a lasting impression on our memories and history books, little remains to mark their trailblazing. “Pompey's Pillar bears the only surviving inscription of the Lewis and Clark Expedition,” says Chelsey Beck, volunteer coordinator and marketing manager for Friends of Pompey's Pillar. “Captain William Clark carved his name and the date ‘Wm. Clark July 25, 1806’ on the face of the 150-foot sandstone rock. Both his signature and the rock appear the same today as they did 200 years ago.” An extensive boardwalk leading to Clark’s signature and to the top of the pillar enables guests to savor the scenery and visualize the route taken by the Corps along the Yellowstone River. Interpretive Rangers and Volunteers are available for answering questions. The monument bears further historical significance, long preceding Lewis and Clark. “Some history and evidence show that Native Americans first occupied this land as far back as 10,000 years ago," Chelsey says. "It contains pictographs and petroglyphs, as well as the famous inscription of Captain William Clark.” Fun Fact: Clark named “Pompey's Tower” after Sacagawea's son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, who was nicknamed “Pomp." YELLOWSTONE KELLY INTERPRETIVE SITE Although born to wealthy parents in upstate New York, Luther Sage “Yellowstone” Kelly was destined for a life of adventure upon the frontier. As a teen, he enlisted in the Union Army near the end of the Civil War and was assigned to a fort in the Dakota Territory. “When his enlistment expired in 1868, Kelly, still a teenager, walked west to explore the region between Upper Missouri and the Yellowstone, earning a reputation for courage, intelligence and the sobriquet ‘Yellowstone Kelly,’” says John Brewer, president and CEO of the Billings Chamber of Commerce. Kelly gained national fame for his role as the lead scout for Army Colonel Nelson Miles during the Battle of the Little Bighorn. “In 1878, Kelly and Miles chased Chief Joseph and his followers during their epic trek across four states until the Nez Perce surrendered in the Bear Paw Mountains,” John says. After marrying, Kelly became a rancher and government clerk, yet he never lost his yearning for adventure. He explored southern Alaska, guided naturalists John Muir and John Burroughs, fought insurrectionPhoto credit to Visit Billings

Kelly always knew he wanted to be buried in Montana. “On June 26, 1929, he was laid to rest with full military honors,” says John, “overlooking the Yellowstone Valley.” Fun Fact: Kelly served in three wars, was a scholar and author and befriended "Buffalo Bill" Cody.
