LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Style Issue Style has a way of speaking before we ever say a word. Long before someone learns our story, style offers a first impression. It reflects our personality, our confidence, our creativity, and often the season of life we're in. Yet the most memorable style has never been about following every trend or owning the newest designer piece. It's about authenticity. It's about discovering what feels true to you and wearing it with confidence. As summer gives way to fall, September naturally invites a sense of renewal. We settle back into routines, embrace changing colors, and often find ourselves craving a fresh perspective. While that may mean updating a wardrobe or trying a new beauty routine, I believe the most meaningful transformations begin somewhere much deeper. They begin when we feel comfortable enough to express ourselves without comparison. Living in Bellevue, we're fortunate to be surrounded by remarkable creativity. From artists and entrepreneurs to designers, beauty professionals, and small business owners, our community is filled with individuals who remind us that style isn't one-size-fits-all. It evolves alongside us, shaped by our experiences, passions, and the confidence we gain over time. That individuality is something worth celebrating. I hope this issue encourages you to embrace the version of style that feels most like you. Maybe it's simplifying your routine, trying something unexpected, supporting a local creative, or simply wearing the pieces that make you feel your best. Whatever that looks like, remember that the most timeless style has never been about perfection. It's about knowing who you are and expressing it with confidence.

“WHAT BEGAN AS CURIOSITY QUICKLY EVOLVED INTO AN ENTIRELY NEW CREATIVE CHAPTER OF MY LIFE.”
Since its inception in France in 1952, luxury fashion house Chloé has been known for “creations that bring elegance and freedom of movement to those who wear them,” (chloe.com). The breezy and bohemian styles offered by the brand represent the vision of founder Gaby Aghion, who famously said, “All I’ve ever wanted was for Chloé to have a happy spirit, to make people happy.” Caitlin Agnew, a locally based artist whose work is recognized throughout Washington State and beyond, felt that emotional connection to the brand and created a series of paintings inspired by Chloé’s Summer 2026 campaign. Her pieces incorporate the warm ecrus, rich browns, earthy greens, and ethereal blues represented in the season’s collection. Agnew sat down with Bellevue Lifestyle to discuss her career and the Colors of Chloé series.
WHEN DID YOU BEGIN YOUR CAREER AS AN ARTIST?
I had no formal experience as an artist, aside from a single abstract painting class I took for fun with a friend in 2015. The piece I created that day still hangs in my home and has been continually noticed and praised by friends and family over the years. Still, I never thought to explore painting any further. It wasn’t until 2020, during the pandemic, that I picked up a paintbrush again and unexpectedly discovered a creative ability I never knew I had, and a genuine passion for making art. What began as curiosity quickly evolved into an entirely new creative chapter of my life. CONTINUED >

“I’VE ALWAYS BEEN DRAWN TO PAINTING ON A LARGE SCALE BECAUSE OF THE PRESENCE IT CREATES. I LOVE MAKING WORK THAT IS A STATEMENT AND VISUAL FOCAL POINT WITHIN A SPACE.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT ACRYLIC PAINT AS A MEDIUM, HOW DOES IT ALLOW YOU TO EXPRESS YOURSELF?
Acrylic gives me the freedom to really play with color, texture, and layering. It’s quick-drying which forces me to work more in the moment and intuitively. I can add, cover, or change direction without overthinking each decision, which often allows the unexpected parts of the process to become the most interesting.
YOU TYPICALLY CREATE WORKS THAT ARE LARGE IN SCALE, WHAT DRIVES THAT CHOICE? I’ve always been drawn to painting on a large scale because of the presence it creates. I love making work that is a statement and visual focal point within a space. Collectors often tell me that my paintings become conversation starters, pieces guests immediately notice and ask about. I love the idea of my work becoming part of the story of someone’s home in that way. My preference for scale is also influenced by interior design, architecture,
and travel. I’m constantly inspired by the spaces featured in Architectural Digest and by the luxury hotels I’ve visited, where art is often given room to be bold and make a statement.
WHAT SPOKE TO YOU ABOUT THIS CHLOÉ COLLECTION?
Blending my art with fashion has always been my dream. Chloé is a longtime favorite brand of mine. They’re known for using earthy color palettes, warm neutrals, delicate pastels, and golden and bronze tones – all colors I gravitate toward. Their clothing is feminine, free-spirited, and romantic. While working on this series and learning more about the brand, I discovered that beyond creating beautiful clothing, Chloé has a long history of championing women’s liberation and female leadership. I was especially inspired to learn about Chloé Arts, a platform dedicated to celebrating and elevating emerging female artists—an ethos that made my connection to the brand and this body of work feel even more meaningful. HAS YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE EVOLVED WITH THIS COLORS OF CHLOÉ SERIES? Definitely. While I’ve always been drawn to largescale abstract florals, this series feels unexpectedly different. Using Chloé as a visual gave me more inspiration to draw from, not just color palettes, but also the texture of the fabrics and the backdrops of the fashion campaigns. The result is a series that still feels rooted in my floral abstraction, yet looser and bolder. This series helped me evolve in a way I hadn’t intentionally planned—which, to me, is one of the most exciting parts of creating.
HOW DO YOU SEE FASHION INFLUENCING ART, AND VICE VERSA, IN TODAY’S CULTURE? Fashion and art have always shaped and inspired each other. With the rise of fast fashion and AI, I believe that authentic human creativity is becoming more valued, and that luxury fashion brands will seek out and share the human story behind their product. By collaborating with artists and utilizing original art, fashion houses can offer something technology cannot replicate: human perspective, imperfection, and connection. I hope to be a part of that. You can find out more about Agnew’s Colors of Chloé collection and her other work at finchesart.com, and follow her on Instagram at @finchesart.
“WHILE WORKING ON THIS SERIES, I DISCOVERED THAT BEYOND CREATING BEAUTIFUL CLOTHING, CHLOÉ HAS A LONG HISTORY OF CHAMPIONING WOMEN’S LIBERATION AND FEMALE LEADERSHIP.” 22

BEAUTY WITH Intention As the seasons change, so do the colors, textures and techniques that shape our beauty routines. This fall, the focus is shifting away from heavy coverage and trend driven looks in favor of makeup that feels intentional, effortless and uniquely personal. Radiant skin, softly sculpted eyes, berry toned cheeks and warm neutral palettes are taking center stage, creating looks that feel polished while still allowing natural beauty to shine through. It is a season defined by confidence, where luxury is no longer about looking perfect but about choosing products that help you feel like the best version of yourself. To explore the beauty trends defining the season, we turned to J. Brandon Correa, National Makeup Artist and Artistry Manager of Yves Saint Laurent (US) with more than 21 years of experience in the luxury beauty industry.

Drawing from decades of artistry and experience, Correa shares why today’s beauty philosophy is centered on authenticity, how a few thoughtful updates can completely refresh your routine and why helping clients recognize their own confidence is the most rewarding part of his work. His approach proves that the right makeup does not transform who you are. Instead, it enhances your natural features and brings out the qualities that make you unique. Inspired by that philosophy, Correa has curated his eight favorite YSL Beauty essentials for fall. From complexion enhancing staples and richly pigmented color to nourishing lip products and luxurious finishing touches, these expert approved picks capture everything there is to love about the season while making it easier than ever to refresh your makeup bag with confidence.

The Art of Effortless Style
ARTICLE BY KRISTI SELLERS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY DELILAH LOVEJOY

FASH ION F OR WA R D | BE AU T Y
At Salon 44 in Bellevue, style is not treated as a trend to copy. It is something personal, shaped by a client’s features, lifestyle and sense of self. That philosophy has guided sisters Tawny and Tia Nguyen as they have grown their family-owned salon into a destination for customized color, cutting and luxury hair services. Tia has spent 22 years in the beauty industry and opened Salon 44 in 2016. What began with the original Newcastle/Renton-area location has become a 10-year journey, including the opening of the Bellevue salon in 2023. Through that growth, the sisters have preserved the close-knit culture that helped build the business. “Everyone may have an inspiration photo, but the client still controls the length, color and overall direction,” Tia and Tawny explain. “The stylist’s role is to offer thoughtful recommendations based on head shape, skin tone, eye color, hair condition and what the hair can realistically handle.” The Salon 44 team also believes exceptional results require exceptional products. That’s why every service is performed using premium professional lines including Kérastase, Milbon, and Redken, brands known for their advanced formulations and commitment to hair health. Their philosophy is simple: beautiful, healthy hair deserves professional care at every step. As the team likes to say, “Expensive hair shouldn’t use cheap products.” By pairing expert technique with industry-leading products, they help clients maintain the same healthy, polished look long after they leave the salon. “Do they work out often? Do they usually wear their hair up? Do they have time to style it every morning?” the team explains. “We consider the products and tools they have at home, how often they want to return and whether the cut will still look good without daily styling.” In Bellevue, clients are drawn to an effortless, polished look. Lived-in color, natural brightness and low-maintenance cuts remain popular. “Clients want to look bright, classy and well kept while still looking natural,” the team says. “They want hair that feels current but is easy to maintain.”
32

The salon’s range of expertise also sets it apart. Stylists bring different strengths, allowing the team to offer a broad variety of services. Some have been with Salon 44 for a decade, while others have worked in the industry for 10 to 20 years. When a transformation requires four to six hours, the salon makes space for the process. Luxury is not defined only by the finished result. It is found in the entire experience, from refreshments and detailed consultations to extended scalp massages and small touches designed to keep clients comfortable. “Luxury comes from the complete package,” stylist Bekah says. “It is making the client feel cared for, giving realistic expectations and still working toward the color or look they hoped to achieve.”
Stylist Chai describes the goal in more personal terms. “We want clients to feel more comfortable with themselves,” she says. “It is about helping them see the best version of who they are and making a change that feels right.” That same care extends behind the scenes. The team celebrates birthdays, makes bubble tea runs, supports salon mothers with baby showers and gathers around local food and community events. Salon 44 also hosted a salon market last year and plans to bring it back at the end of August. For Tawny and Tia, that family atmosphere is part of the salon’s identity. After 10 years of growth, two locations and countless transformations, Salon 44 continues to make style feel personal, welcoming and entirely its own. To contact Salon 44, visit salon44hair.com or call 206-883-9819.

Wear Colors That Truly
LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.
KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.
CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.
THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cooltoned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.
BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!
PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

HOW T WO WOMEN ARE REDEFINING FA SHION AF TER 4 0
Somewhere along the way, many women begin asking themselves the same question: Can I still wear this? The founders of Last Seen Wearing believe the better question is much simpler: Does it make you feel like your best self? For longtime friends Julie Powell and Krista Olufson, what started as a creative outlet has grown into a thriving online community helping women rediscover the joy of getting dressed. Their signature aesthetic—what they call “elevated casual”— blends everyday comfort with modern style, proving that fashion doesn’t have an expiration date. Their mission isn’t about chasing every trend. It’s about giving women permission to care about how they feel in their clothes again. “We want to encourage women to be more bold, growing in confidence in all areas of their lives and feeling fabulous while they’re at it,” they say. That message clearly resonates.
As women move through careers, motherhood, changing bodies and shifting priorities, personal style often gets pushed to the bottom of the list. Years pass, wardrobes stop evolving and many women find themselves wearing the same looks they’ve relied on for decades. “We also picture what our moms wore at our age and think that’s what we need to embrace,” they explain. “There’s also a bit of a vibe here in the Pacific Northwest that caring about fashion is frivolous.” But through Last Seen Wearing, they’ve discovered something surprising: women weren’t looking for permission to buy more clothes—they were looking for permission to enjoy fashion again. Followers regularly tell them that seeing two relatable women confidently wearing current styles has inspired them to step outside their own comfort zones. One conversation, in particular, has stayed with Krista. A woman she hadn’t seen in several years shared that she often wondered whether certain trends were “too young” for her. Watching Julie and Krista wear them gave her confidence to try them herself. CONTINUED >

“She is exactly who we are trying to reach and inspire,” Krista says. Rather than encouraging women to completely reinvent their wardrobes, the pair believes style is built through small, approachable changes. Updating shoes, adding a statement necklace or layering on a denim jacket can instantly make familiar outfits feel fresh. They also encourage women to gather inspiration before shopping, often discovering they already own many of the pieces they need. That practical, judgment-free approach is part of what has made their platform so welcoming. Their content focuses on real life—school pickups, travel, dinner with friends and even grandma duties—showing that everyday style can still feel intentional. Along the way, Last Seen Wearing has transformed more than their followers’ closets. It has also changed Julie and Krista themselves.

They’ve become more adventurous with fashion, trying silhouettes, colors and trends they once would have dismissed. More importantly, they’ve gained confidence, learned new skills, built meaningful friendships and found a creative purpose during a new season of life as their children grew older. Their philosophy can be summed up in one simple belief: confidence and personal style go hand in hand. “When you feel good in an outfit, you feel more confident,” they say. “You can take your focus off of yourself and possible insecurities and focus on others.” For Julie and Krista, that’s the real power of getting dressed. It’s never been about looking younger or following every trend. It’s about showing up as the best version of yourself—at every age—and having a little fun along the way.
