LIFESTYLE LETTER

Health & Wellness A new year has a way of inviting clarity. Not through pressure or grand resolutions, but through a quieter sense of intention, a desire to feel grounded, restored, and aligned with what truly matters. As we welcome 2026, this Health & Wellness issue is a gentle reminder that wellbeing is not a finish line. It is a practice. A rhythm. A series of small choices that support us in showing up more fully in our work, our families, and our daily lives. This month, we explore the many ways wellness can take shape, from the routines that strengthen our bodies to the rituals that restore our minds and the spaces that help us feel more at ease. The stories within these pages are not about perfection. They are about possibility. They celebrate confidence at every age, rest as a form of resilience, and the quiet luxury of taking care of ourselves in ways that feel honest and sustainable. Whether you are embracing new routines or simply giving yourself room to breathe after a full season, I hope this issue inspires you to choose what supports you, grounds you, and helps you feel your best. However you step into the year ahead, may it be with intention, balance, and a renewed sense of wellbeing. With appreciation,

HOW ALICIA ERICKSON IS REDEFINING STRENGTH, CONFIDENCE, AND WELL-BEING FOR WOMEN 40 PLUS

ARTICLE BY TAYLOR ROBINSON | PHOTOGRAPHY BY LIFE N LIGHT

THE MIDLIFE

MAVEN For many women, midlife arrives with a subtle but persistent question: What now? Children are growing up and moving out, careers are evolving, priorities are shifting, and long ignored personal needs begin rising to the surface. It is a season marked by transition, reflection, and, if you ask Alicia Erickson, founder of The Midlife Maven, remarkable opportunity. CONTINUED >

Alicia did not set out to create a movement. But when she hit 50 and experienced a personal transformation that reshaped her entire outlook on strength and aging, she knew she could not keep it to herself. “When I experienced my own transformation as I turned 50, I wanted to share it with every woman and empower them to believe it’s possible to make major changes in midlife. I wanted to show them that this is just the beginning for us.” What began as her own awakening has evolved into a mission to help women in their 40s and 50s feel strong, capable, and deeply connected to themselves again. Through her work, Alicia meets women who are often navigating profound shifts. Kids are leaving the house, career paths are changing, and daily life may feel unfamiliar. Many realize they have spent years putting everyone else first and find themselves wondering when they stopped prioritizing their own well-being. As she explains, “We are coming to a point in life where the kids are leaving, career paths might be changing, life is looking different. It is a moment of discovering ourselves all over again. Often times this comes after putting everyone else first and putting ourselves last. Our bad habits catch up with us and we wonder who we even are anymore?” In Alicia’s view, this moment is not a crisis but an invitation to rebuild.

20

H EA LT H Y LIF E ST Y LE | FIT N E SS

“BELIEVE THAT THE FIRST HALF WAS JUST T H E W A R M U P. T H E BE S T I S COMING.”

A cornerstone of her approach is strength training, something she believes most women have been misled about for decades. “We have been told our entire lives to do more cardio and eat less. This DOES NOT and WILL NOT work,” she says. “Adding muscle to your body especially in midlife is the fountain of youth. You will not only feel amazing and age powerfully with independence, you will have the beautiful sculpted figure you have always chased after. This does not come from yoga and bird food. This comes from fueling yourself properly and lifting heavy weights.” For Alicia, building muscle is not just about aesthetics. It is a pathway to independence, vitality, and resilience, helping women feel grounded and powerful in their own bodies again. Just as important is the mental shift that must accompany the physical one. “Mindset is THE most important factor because when you believe it’s possible you open up your entire world to possibility. You need to build a vision for the woman you want to become and chase after her consistently with your daily habits.” Alicia encourages women to redefine what is possible by picturing their strongest future selves and then aligning their daily habits with that vision. Consistency, she believes, grows from clarity. When asked what small step a woman can take today to start feeling stronger and more balanced in the year ahead, her answer is simple and direct. “Believe that the first half was just the warm up. The best is coming. Start lifting weights following a lifting program. She will feel incredibly empowered as she gets stronger. Fuel herself properly with nutritious food. Cut the alcohol and processed crud. Eat like you love yourself.” Women who want to learn more can connect with Alicia’s vibrant and growing community. She shares inspiration and insights on Instagram @aliciae, TikTok @aliciae6, her blog at themid life-maven.com, and through her app at aliciaericksonapp.com, which offers lifting programs and group coaching. For Alicia, midlife is not something to fear. It is a powerful new beginning. “This is just the beginning for us.” Glam by Alexis Michael HMUA alexismichaelhmua.com JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / BE L L E V UE

The college admissions process doesn’t have to be overwhelming

The college application process can be immensely stressful for both students and their families. A recent survey conducted by educational research firm EAB (eab.com) found that 48% of high school respondents said stress and anxiety overshadowed their college planning, and 52% reported feeling moderately to extremely concerned about their mental health. Stressors can include disagreement between parents and kids on prospective colleges, essay topics, and extra-curricular activities. Enter Rosy Zhong, founder of local consultancy Mirelle Education. One of Zhong’s roles is to facilitate communication within families to support the common goal of seeking the best education for each individual student. Parents know they can trust Zhong to have their kids’ best interests at heart, and students feel supported and benefit from mentorship as part of integrated college readiness. Just having her shoulder to lean on takes some of the weight off of clients. Zhong describes a student who struggled academically her junior year while navigating complex relationships with friends, her basketball coach, and a chemistry teacher. Working with Zhong, the client started opening up, initiating conversations with teachers and coaches for advice on how to improve. She grew through the challenges, gaining clarity in her goals and meriting a college recommendation letter from the chemistry teacher emphasizing her initiative and willingness to engage and

learn outside of class. She was ultimately accepted into her dream school - Vanderbilt - via Early Decision. The focus at Mirelle is on the journey - for clients to know themselves well enough to answer the questions of why they want to attend college and what interests and passions they want to pursue. Zhong helps students evaluate their candidacy, assess strengths and gaps, and create a plan. She meets with clients weekly to develop a relationship and serve as a support in a time of transition and uncertainty. “A lot of students start with that mindset of, ‘I want to go to an Ivy league school.’ Then as we work together and explore and research more colleges and specific programs, they’ll realize maybe a Rice University or Vanderbilt University or Emory is a much better fit,” she says. Zhong steers students to maximizing their natural talents. She says, “Mental health is affected by the decisions that students and parents make throughout high school. If you’re not playing to your strengths and genuine passion, you will get burnt out and you could suffer mental health-wise and your college applications could be weaker as a result.” When it comes to her philosophy, Zhong sums it up like this, “College and career success often follows as a natural result of your growth, if you just focus on growing as much as possible.”

REST “LUXURY IN A WELLNESS DRIVEN WORLD IS ABOUT CHOOSING THE THINGS THAT GENUINELY IMPROVE HOW YOU FEEL.”

Some places impress you. Hästens Bellevue restores you. The moment the door closes behind you, the space seems to breathe. It is quiet, grounded, and comfortably cool. Textures invite touch, the natural materials feel alive, and a sense of calm settles in almost instantly. It is not dramatic. It is deeply intentional. In a community that values both performance and wellbeing, Hästens Bellevue offers a rare refuge where restoration becomes a daily practice rather than a distant aspiration. CONTINUED >

Owners Greg Laverseyn, Mark Potvin, and Marcus Avenstam

The sense of tranquility is no accident. It comes from a lineage that began in Köping, Sweden more than a century and a half ago, where Hästens beds are still crafted by hand with unwavering devotion. As showroom owners Greg, Mark, and Marcus explain, “The feeling of a Hästens bed begins long before you lie in it. In our workshop in Köping, about seventy miles west of Stockholm, every bed is made by hand using techniques passed from one generation of craftsmen to the next.” Their words reflect a philosophy rooted not in nostalgia but in the belief that mastery deepens over time, layer by layer, touch by touch. Walking through the showroom feels like stepping into that philosophy made visible. Beds appear almost sculptural in their simplicity, shaped from natural materials that whisper of the landscapes they come from. Wool, horsehair, cotton, and flax reveal themselves not through ornament but through presence. “Innovation for us is about improving the methods we already trust,” the team shares, and you feel that restraint in every model. Each bed is built with layered construction that allows the materials to move freely, creating subtle shifts and contours that meet the body rather than resist it. The sensation is unmistakable. “The result is a bed you sleep in, not on,” they offer, “and the natural layers work together to ease the pull of gravity and create a sense of weightlessness.” You understand this fully only when you sit down, then lie back. Air seems to circulate without effort. The structure feels supportive yet almost buoyant. Time slows just enough for you to notice the way your shoulders loosen and your breath lengthens. This is the gift of natural materials. “At Hästens, we work with natural materials because nothing supports the body the way nature does,” the team explains. Horsehair creates breathability, acting like millions of tiny springs that move air and lift moisture away. Wool gently balances temperature. Flax strengthens the bed’s foundation and softens the sensory environment with its quiet, calming presence. “Together, these materials create a naturally self regulating environment that supports the body’s rhythm,” they say, helping sleep unfold the way it was always meant to. The approach feels especially aligned with Bellevue, where people pursue excellence yet remain deeply connected to wellness, nature, and intentional living. Here, rest is not simply a pause between obligations. It is a crucial part of showing up fully in work, family life, and adventure. “Luxury in a wellness driven world is often about choosing the things that genuinely improve how you feel,” the team reflects. In this context, a Hästens bed becomes less a purchase and more a commitment to the quality of your days. The process of choosing a bed at Hästens Bellevue mirrors that philosophy. Appointments take on an almost meditative tempo. Guests are encouraged to explore without hurry, to settle into the materials, to notice how their bodies respond when fully supported. Conversations often begin with a gentle reminder of the role sleep plays in our lives. “Once people understand that sleep is the place where the body restores itself, the importance of the environment around it becomes clearer,” the team says. The message is simple yet profound. “When you spend a third of your life in a space that truly supports rest, it influences how you wake up, how you think, and how you show up for the people around you.”

32

H OM E U P DAT E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

There is a natural harmony in seeing Hästens open its doors in Bellevue. The city’s culture is rooted in intentional living, in excellence tempered with care, in the understanding that high performance requires deep restoration. As the team notes, “Bellevue is a place where people take both their work and their wellbeing seriously,” and Hästens meets that value with a promise both timeless and transformative. The new Hästens Bellevue showroom stands as both a retreat and an invitation. It encourages a slower kind of curiosity, one grounded in the sensory experience of natural fibers, the quiet sophistication of Scandinavian design, and the understanding that wellness begins with how we rest. Whether you are exploring the science of sleep, investing in long term wellbeing, or seeking a sanctuary within your own home, Hästens offers a path toward deeper restoration. To experience the difference of a Hästens bed, readers are invited to book a private appointment at the new Hästens Bellevue showroom through their website at hastens.com. You can also follow along for local events and inspiration at @hastens_bellevue.

SKINCARE BEYOND

the Surface

The path to healthy skin isn’t just about appearance—it’s about confidence, wellbeing, and trusted science behind the products we use. Few brands understand this as deeply as HydroPeptide. As a woman-led luxury therapeutic skincare brand, it has built its reputation on clinical precision, cutting-edge peptide technology, and results that are both visible and transformative. A global pioneer in peptide research, HydroPeptide partners with leading experts around the world to create breakthrough formulas that set new standards in skin health. Over the past 20 years, the brand has evolved from its roots in Issaquah to a global presence headquartered in Bellevue, with products shipping from its Auburn facility to more than 40 countries across Europe, Australia, and Canada. HydroPeptide prioritizes sustainability and clean science in every formula, using fully recyclable packaging made from FSCcertified, recyclable, or post-consumer recycled materials. All products meet the brand’s strict Clinically Clean standards — free of genotoxins, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and harmful fragrance, and are compliant with EU banned-ingredient regulations. The line is 100% cruelty-free and RIPT allergy tested, with about 90% of products gluten-free and 80% vegan. Developed by

an in-house chemist, every formula is results-driven, leveraging advanced peptide technology while maintaining strict safety and sustainability standards. Most recently, HydroPeptide unveiled its cutting-edge medical line: the ReActivate Rx Serum and the ReActivate Rx Moisturizer Pro-Collagen Night Complex. “ReActivate Rx represents the culmination of over two decades of peptide innovation and clinical research,” says Annette Rubin, CEO of HydroPeptide. “Regenerative aesthetics has never been more in demand, as consumers shift from chasing quick fixes to proactively strengthening their skin’s foundation. We worked alongside leading scientists to understand not just how to stimulate collagen, but how to sustain and protect it at the cellular level—because that’s where skin health and longevity truly begin.” HydroPeptide’s products are available in resort, day, and medical spas, as well as online at HydroPeptide.com. A collaboration with Columbia Hospitality brings the brand to premier hotel spas across the Pacific Northwest, further highlighting its commitment to professional-grade skincare and elevated spa experiences both globally and close to home. Its newly released medical line is offered exclusively through medical spas and clinical practices.

RACHEL PHILLIPS, LMA Master Aesthetician Principal Account Exec. PAC NW Corporate Partnership For those seeking healthy, glowing skin, HydroPeptide’s own Rachel Phillips recommended six products to start your new year off right. According to Rachel, enjoying spa treatments and clinical facials is much more ingrained in the cultures of Europe and Asia, where they are considered a regular part of wellness rather than an occasional splurge. Skincare that feels pleasurable to use can help bring that same sense of selfcare into your own routine—and incorporating products powered by peptides will give your skin the boost it deserves.
