HOW PASSION AND PURPOSE HELPED CREATE A UNIQUE WELLNESS HOTEL EXPERIENCE

The Posthotel in Leavenworth has become known as the premier luxury wellness hotel in our state, as well as recently voted one of the “top 10 destination resorts in the country” (USA Today, August 2024 poll). It’s not hard to see why. As you enter Posthotel, you’re immediately embraced by a sense of calm. The air is lightly scented with their signature custom scent; soft ambient music sets a tranquil tone. Everything—from the luxurious textures to the quiet elegance of the design—invites you to exhale, unwind, and prepare for an experience where relaxation is the priority. What many don’t know or see, is that the hard work and inspiration that went into building The Posthotel is truly a family story, now six generations deep in Leavenworth. The Johnson family has history in Leavenworth starting in the 1940’s. The family had experience with construction, but surprisingly, no experience in the hospitality industry. It was Rob Johnson (third generation) and his wife Nancy, that saw an opportunity. At that time, Leavenworth was mostly a daytrip destination, and there was only one hotel in town (which closed in the winter). They found themselves brainstorming ideasto encourage more people to visit, and decided to build their first hotel in Leavenworth, the Enzian Inn. For many years, the Enzian Inn was the family’s primary business, until 2006 when Rob asked his daughter, Robin, to do a project together. With Rob’s passion for building and Robin’s expertise with design, they wanted to create something special together. They decided to travel through the Alps for inspiration and it was on that trip they discovered wellness hotels and immediately knew they had to bring this concept back to Leavenworth. CONTINUED >

19

They had a very small crew for such a big project, but Rob loves a challenge and enjoys building purely for the joy of building. And so, Robin put him to work. Every detail in the Posthotel is thoughtful, intentional, and extremely complicated for the average carpenter to accomplish. From custom beams, detailed mosaic tile, welded rod iron staircases, unique wood floors, custom furniture and more; no detail was left out. “We wanted the Posthotel experience to be as authentic as possible, and to feel like a home in the Alps and not a commercial space. The Alps are limited in materials and colors due to location, so it was important to use natural tones and incorporate elements of nature. Everything visible is natural: all natural stones (not ceramic), slate roof, real wood, etc.” says Robin. Even the food menu was curated with The Alps in mind. Delicious, simple, fresh, and made from scratch in house. The Post Hotel’s hydrotherapy spa was designed using Sebastian Kneipp (1821-1897) techniques, which were used at the wellness hotels they had visited. Considered “the godfather” of some of today’s hottest wellness trends, Kneipp was a German priest turned “water doctor” and although he wasn’t the first person that was healing with water, he made these methods understandable and accessible to common people. Posthotel offers several different steam rooms, saunas, cold plunges, and showers, allowing for a variety of different areas to alternate hot and cold. Robin worked with a doctor to create circuits that guests can follow depending what health benefits they’re looking for (ex: muscle relief, detox, stress relief, etc.). In addition to hydrotherapy, their spa services are top notch with medically advance facials, and the latest and greatest products. “We’re constantly looking for new lines and staying on top of current spa trends. We have a lot of repeat guests, so we try to have new things for them,” says Robin. The beauty of Posthotel is visible to anyone. But what might be unseen, is a testimony of the Johnson’s values and hard work. Currently, Robin and her husband Chris manage the hotel, and are a vital part of everyday business. “I grew up watching my Poppa and dad work really hard and enjoy their work. Those values are really important to me, and something I want to pass onto my kids, which is to do something you love, and work really hard at it,” says Robin. And then, of course, make time to relax.

STRENGTHENING BELLEVUE ONE CORE AT A TIME

Owner of Main Street Pilates, Kerri Roberts, Shares her Inspiration for Creating a Supportive Space Fostering Mind-body Wellness. ARTICLE BY TAYLOR ROBINSON PHOTOGRAPHY BY BRYNNA KATHLEEN PHOTOGRAPHY

26

G E T ACT IV E | FI TNES S

Bellevue Lifestyle had the pleasure of connecting with Kerri Roberts this month, the visionary owner of Main Street Pilates, to learn more about her journey and the inspiration behind her studio. From her passion for holistic wellness to her commitment to creating an inclusive Pilates community, Kerri shares how her approach transforms lives—one movement at a time.

“We’re deeply committed to providing excellent instruction and staying true to the principles of the Pilates method, ensuring that each client receives the best possible experience.” WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO OPEN MAIN STREET PILATES, AND WHAT VISION DO YOU HAVE FOR THE STUDIO?

I opened Main Street Pilates to share the transformative benefits of Pilates and create a space where people could connect with both their bodies and minds. My vision is to build a supportive community where everyone—regardless of fitness level—can experience the strength, flexibility, and mental well-being that Pilates offers. We’re deeply committed to providing excellent instruction and staying true to the principles of the Pilates method, ensuring that each client receives the best possible experience. Pilates isn’t just about

physical movement; it’s about reducing stress, building confidence, and finding balance. Our goal is to inspire lifelong wellness through the practice of Pilates.

HOW DOES YOUR APPROACH TO PILATES SUPPORT CLIENTS OF ALL FITNESS LEVELS?

At Main Street Pilates, we believe Pilates is truly for everyone—whether you’re stepping onto the Reformer for the very first time or you’re a seasoned practitioner with countless classes under your belt. Our sessions are carefully designed to meet each client where they are, tailoring movements and modifications to suit any fitness level. CONTINUED >

Founder and Owner Kerri Roberts

Our focus on foundational techniques ensures that everyone moves safely while building strength, flexibility, and balance at their own pace. With our team of highly experienced instructors—many with over a decade of teaching expertise—we pride ourselves on creating a supportive, inclusive environment where all clients can progress confidently on their Pilates journey. Whether you prefer the energy of a group class or the individualized attention of a private session, we have the perfect option to help you reach your full potential.

CAN YOU SHARE A SIGNATURE CLASS OR MOVEMENT THAT SETS MAIN STREET PILATES APART?

Our signature class, Reformer Flow, takes classical Pilates to the next level by seamlessly blending traditional sequences with contemporary creativity. What makes this class shine is its integration of props like the magic circle, spine corrector, foam roller, and resistance bands, transforming familiar movements into dynamic, full-body challenges. This class is designed to engage the core while incorporating fluid, precise movements that test stability, endurance, and overall control. It’s perfect for clients seeking to deepen their practice, with choreography that adapts to every fitness level. Whether you’re new to Pilates or an advanced practitioner, Reformer Flow offers a uniquely versatile and transformative workout experience.

HOW HAVE SMALL CLASS SIZES IMPACTED YOUR CLIENTS’ EXPERIENCES AND PROGRESS?

Our intentionally small class sizes—capped at just six participants—allow us to offer an experience that feels personal, focused, and deeply engaging. With fewer clients per class, our instructors can provide individualized guidance, detailed corrections, and hands-on adjustments that help clients master techniques while minimizing the risk of injury.

28

G E T ACT IV E | FI TNES S

“Many of our clients share that this personalized approach not only enhances their physical progress, but also creates a sense of community and connection.”

Many of our clients share that this personalized approach not only enhances their physical progress, but also creates a sense of community and connection. The result is a supportive studio environment where motivation and consistency thrive, making their Pilates practice both effective and enjoyable.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO INCORPORATE PILATES INTO THEIR WELLNESS ROUTINE?

For anyone starting their Pilates journey, we recommend starting with a beginners class or private session to build a strong understanding of the basics. Consistency is key, so aiming for two to three sessions a week can yield

significant improvements in strength, flexibility, and overall body awareness. Most importantly, approach Pilates with an open mind and a little patience. This isn’t just about intense workouts—it’s about mastering the Principles of Pilates: control, alignment, and intentional breathing. Beyond the physical benefits, Pilates can enhance posture, reduce stress, and promote a deeper sense of well-being, making it a meaningful addition to any wellness routine.
