February is often associated with love but at Bellevue Lifestyle, we believe love shows up in many forms. Love for community. Love for creativity. And love for the people who make this place feel vibrant, inspired, and alive.
This issue is a celebration of the arts and the creative voices shaping Bellevue’s cultural landscape. From artists transforming ideas into meaningful expression, to thoughtfully designed spaces that invite us to slow down, gather, and connect, this month is all about honoring creativity with intention.

Inside these pages, you’ll discover a curated roundup of local artists whose work spans mediums, perspectives, and stories, each adding depth and beauty to the Eastside arts scene. We also highlight Date Night at Home, a thoughtful feature offering creative ideas to celebrate love through shared moments, whether that means cooking together, creating something by hand, or simply slowing down and being present.
The issue continues with a spotlight on local favorites including places to sip, savor, and linger, alongside stories of leadership, vision, and impact, from community leaders stepping into new roles to creative escapes beyond the city, like a wine country getaway that reminds us why supporting local makers matters wherever we go.
At its heart, this issue is a love letter to the arts and to the local businesses, creatives, and leaders who continue to shape Bellevue’s evolving story. Thank you for supporting the people, places, and passion that make our community so special.
Here’s to loving local this February and always.
With love,

A curated roundup of women artists redefining expression and elevating the local arts scene.

Photography by Shannon Beauclair
HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST BEGIN, AND WHAT SPARKED THAT FIRST CREATIVE PULL FOR YOU?
I was five years old the first time my mom enrolled me in an art class, it was pottery class to be exact, and I still have the framed ceramic pear tile hanging in my office that I made that first class sometime early in the 1970s. My creative spark in ceramics seemed almost predestined; however, the realization came retrospectively decades later, only after pursuing a degree in science and holding many careers outside of the arts. Somewhere in my mind I thought to be an artist is to be ordained artist, some sort of title that is given not taken. My mother gifted me my first kiln as a graduation gift in 1991 and that was certainly a turning point, although it wasn’t until 2007 that I fully transitioned my career path into fine arts. Thanks to my early collectors and a nearly constant stream of new inspiration, my career as an artist is soon to celebrate its 20th year!
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES ARE SHAPING YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW, AND WHY DO THEY RESONATE WITH YOU?
My process starts with a block of raw porcelain which I roll out and cut into smaller pieces or shape individually by hand. Once the glazing and firing process is complete, I begin the steps of organizing the individual pieces on the panel or panels. Assembling the composition is meticulous, as the individual pieces may be moved once or dozens of times before finally being fixed to the panel. I can make hundreds to thousands of the same porcelain pieces, but no two of my porcelain units are truly the same, so it matters a lot where it is placed in a composition. You can tell by looking at my work that repetition is a hallmark of my work, where the final composition becomes a mantra in form.
Porcelain is my chosen medium and it always has been my muse. My methods have evolved over time, and I like to test my methodologies with chemical reactions, temperature changes in the kiln, seeing how the clay and chemicals respond. I am constantly being surprised and inspired by the outcomes of tests in my studio that I can only describe as a kind of laboratory of experiments.
I’m so happy that you asked this question! I am currently in a period of investigation in preparation for my next series. I am studying the human form using watercolor. I have chosen to study the forms in watercolor first as it can be done quicker and on a smaller scale than my work in porcelain. From this watercolor study of nudes, I will begin my next porcelain on panel series. The vision for these pieces is that the viewers’ initial perception of the work is of an abstract, there will be a lot of lines and shadows and then if the viewer stays long enough with the pieces that the abstracted nudity or perhaps vague copulatory imagery will emerge. This will be my most focused and encompassing series to date and I anticipate it taking two or more years to complete the larger scale works.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST BEGIN, AND WHAT SPARKED THAT FIRST CREATIVE PULL FOR YOU?
My creative path began with writing. I journaled to understand myself, then later became a professional writer and photographer. Assignments for Seattle Refined and Luxe Magazine brought me into artists’ studios, which I loved. Participating in an abstract composition workshop at Gage Academy was the moment I understood that I was meant to make art, not just document it.
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES ARE SHAPING YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW, AND WHY DO THEY RESONATE WITH YOU?
I’m working with texture mediums and thin washes of acrylic paint to create paintings that feel both dimensional and soft. My trip to Greece is shaping my palette and approach. Cycladic architecture, ancient tiles, and the neutral tones of beach pebbles stayed with me. Layered paste and gentle color washes

create imperfect, lived-in surfaces that feel alive and connected to place.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU IN 2026?
2026 feels like a grounded expansion. I’m exploring new ways to blend my atmospheric and architectural compositions, sparked by photography I saw in an art gallery in Santorini. I’m preparing a collection based on a guiding theme I’m calling Inner Compass I’ll also be creating more travel-inspired work, developing licensing partnerships, and collaborating with The Living Room.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST BEGIN, AND WHAT SPARKED THAT FIRST CREATIVE PULL FOR YOU?
My journey as an artist began long before I ever thought to share my work publicly. Growing up in New Orleans, I was surrounded by color, rhythm, and energy—it was my first palette, and it continues to shape how I see the world. In 2020, I leaned into painting more intentionally, using it as a way to process uncertainty and find calm. Each canvas became a place to release chaos through brushstrokes and marks, and in that process I discovered resilience and hope. When I started sharing my work, the responses were remarkable—people spoke of feeling joy, calmness, even a sense of grounding. Realizing that my art could transform not only my own state of mind but also resonate so deeply with others was the moment I knew this wasn’t just a pastime, and that I had to commit to it fully.
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES ARE SHAPING YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW, AND WHY DO THEY RESONATE WITH YOU?
I work with acrylics and oil pastels on canvas and paper, and for close to two years now, I’ve been experimenting with creating very airy backgrounds that have a sense of depth alongside layered brushstrokes that stay around or below a horizon line as a foreground; it’s like an abstract landscape kind of. Over the years, my brushstrokes have become more wavy and organic and sometimes take on shapes of what could appear to be flowers. I love the balance between the two extremes, between the spaces; the negative space at the top and the heavily layered space at the bottom. I think I’m at a stage in life where I’m experiencing the extreme ends of a variety of spectrums and teaching myself how these things can coexist in a balance and be beautiful.
ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU IN 2026?
Over the years I’ve been planting many seeds, and 2026 feels like the season when even more will bloom. I’m excited to deepen relationships and continue sharing my story and work with the Seattle and Bellevue communities. This year feels like one of expansion—of scale, reach, and meaningful engagements—and I’m ready to welcome it all.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST BEGIN, AND WHAT SPARKED THAT FIRST CREATIVE PULL FOR YOU?
With a set of finger paints at the age of 3, I was in awe by the cause and effect of color on the paper squishing from my hands and leaving an imprint of colors and texture melding together in an instant way that was created by my actions. Color made me feel something beyond my understanding. It was and always is a visceral feeling that painting gives me. The colors that inspire me are the ones I discovered while painting with undiscovered names. My father asked me what my favorite color was when I was 3 and my response was dark bright. My art has fed me with food on the table and food for my soul. Both are a necessity. My journey as an artist involves building community with other artists and extending opportunities for other artists. My success is co-dependent on my philanthropic mindset, always seeking opportunities for myself sharing with other creators opportunities to support their careers whenever possible. Human centered, culturally we are valuable, necessary and relevant in the world that is increasingly digitized. I only create art with analog techniques, and that is my journey.
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES ARE SHAPING YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW, AND WHY DO THEY RESONATE WITH YOU?
I am working on a series of animals painted on handmade made papers, and recycled fabrics. It resonates with me because it is a curious juxtaposition between wild animals and civilization. The series will be called wild tame. I am looking forward to introducing a portion of my collection of photography this summer for the first time. I will be working on a collection of abstract paintings with unique color schemes and textures as well, all will be available for purchase late spring. I am looking towards potential collabs with other creators as well. Looking forward to building towards a growing community and human connection through art.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU IN 2026?
I will continue my featured artist residency at FogRose Atelier in Kirkland that will be rotated on a monthly basis curated and inspired by their innovative and delicious theme menus. In high production mode preparing multiple collections for a very special opportunity in June for the Bainbridge Island art walk as a featured artist. The installation will be hosted on site at the Realogics Sothebys real estate gallery in June/July. Excited to combine my curating skills within the real estate industry on upcoming projects for local artists installations for sale in bespoke curated homes on the market. Invited to show my work @art love salon in Seattle in the near future. Exciting collab of my 3 careers, as an artist, real estate broker, and designer. Excited to start offering mobile paint and sips in public/private settings. Also booking live paintings for special events. Opening a small number of commissions for 2026.

HOW DID YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ARTIST BEGIN, AND WHAT SPARKED THAT FIRST CREATIVE PULL FOR YOU?
Art has always been an important part of my life. In 2018, during a particularly demanding, stressful season, I made a commitment to paint for 20 minutes a day. That intentional act reignited my passion for art and sparked momentum, leading to opportunities to show and sell my work in Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, Bellevue, Kirkland and beyond.
WHAT MATERIALS OR TECHNIQUES ARE SHAPING YOUR WORK RIGHT NOW, AND WHY DO THEY RESONATE WITH YOU?
I primarily work with oil paint on stretched cotton canvas, using walnut oil and traditional techniques like direct painting method and wet-on-wet. I’m drawn to oil paint for its luminosity, depth, and the patience it demands. The slow drying time becomes part

of the process, allowing the work to unfold that creates vitality and endurance with each piece.
WHAT’S ON THE HORIZON FOR YOU IN 2026?
In 2026, I’m continuing to build a series of local mountain landscapes. I’m finishing a piece of Mount Si and beginning new works featuring Mount Baker, Stevens, and Whistler.
As a Pacific Northwest native, I’m continually inspired by our landscapes. I love capturing the beauty around us and sharing it with others to encourage joy and connection.

Naren Briar is a rising local leader whose story spans continents, conflict zones, and now, the civic heart of Bellevue. As the newest member of the Bellevue City Council, Naren brings a rare blend of global perspective and local devotion. In this exclusive conversation, she reflects on her journey, her love for Bellevue, and her hopes for its future.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND HOW BELLEVUE BECAME HOME.
I grew up in Wylie, Texas, a Dallas suburb where the iconic TV show Dallas was filmed. My parents fled Saddam Hussein’s genocide against the Kurdish people and arrived in the U.S. in 1996, so my upbringing blended American life with the stories and sacrifices of refugees. I later earned a full-ride scholarship to Boston College, where studying political science, philosophy, and Russian literature shaped my curiosity about global conflict. During college, I worked in refugee camps in Iraq and Syria with people who had fled ISIS, members of minority communities including Christians, Yazidis, and Kurds. That experience ultimately led me to the intersection of human rights, social media, geopolitics, and AI, which brought me to Bellevue. It’s also where I met my soulmate, and after he proposed in Armenia, I knew this was where I wanted to build my life.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING HERE?
The mountains are a daily reminder of our extraordinary natural landscape. I love grabbing a matcha at one of our local shops, the friendly and familiar atmosphere on Old Main Street, and the sense of recognition and community - I’ve become a regular
at Cantinetta, and now greeted by name. Bellevue has a rare energy that feels both sophisticated and welcoming, anchored by a tech sector that’s shaping the future. It was essential for me to raise a family somewhere that excels across innovation, governance, geography, and culture. Bellevue delivers on all fronts, and that’s rare. It’s why I’m dedicated to preserving and enhancing what makes Bellevue remarkable.
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR DECISION TO RUN FOR BELLEVUE CITY COUNCIL?
Modern politics often feels like performance, and I wanted no part of that. My early work, from interning with Congressman Joe Kennedy to gaining recognition from both Senator Warren and Senator Black, showed me the value of meaningful service. After arriving in Bellevue for a role at Facebook, I began mentoring students and engaging with seniors. The more time I spent with this community, the clearer it became: I wanted to serve it directly, bringing everything I’ve learned to the place I now call home. I firmly believe local politics is where we can bridge our most polarized divides and serve our neighbors face-to-face.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH?
I want Bellevue to be safer, more walkable, more affordable, and more fun. My role is to represent residents faithfully and transparently. And long-term, I hope to bring a world-class museum to Bellevue, something on the scale of the Met in New York, reflecting our global culture and establishing Bellevue as not just a tech hub, but a cultural destination. With our resources and cultural depth, I believe this great city is ready for it.

L’EXPERIENCE PARIS DELIVERS AUTHENTIC FRENCH DINING

“WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT MORNING IN PARIS, YOU THINK ABOUT A CROISSANT.”
A native of France, Julien Hervet brought a love of his home country with him when he came to the United States more than twenty years ago. After moving to the west coast and launching a successful career with Microsoft, Julien noted that accessing his favorite French wines proved more difficult than he wanted. So he began exploring importing the wine himself.
“I initially started to import wine just for fun because I couldn’t find the wine I wanted in the market,” explains Julien. “When I did find it, it was a lot more expensive than it should have been due to the structure of the wine market in the U.S. and the intermediaries.”
His hobby grew into a niche business and Julien founded Cépaé in 2015 to meet local demand for French wines. As the time went on, he realized locals desired more than just French wine; they longed for a true taste of French lifestyle and cuisine. In 2018, Julien opened the first location of L’Experience Paris in Bellevue.
It takes three days to make authentic croissants, which are made with only French ingredients

The perfect way to begin your day
“IT’S NOT PRETENTIOUS. WE’RE NOT LOOKING FOR A MICHELIN STAR EXPERIENCE; WE’RE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING WHERE PEOPLE WILL FEEL COMFORTABLE.”
“We are in a very international area with people who have traveled a lot and there was interest in authenticity,” says Julien. “So we have built a full authentic French food experience. Everything we make is according to tradition, with the best ingredients. We use 100% French flour and butter and chocolate from Valrhona, which is the higher end chocolate maker from a patisserie in France.”
Over the last seven years, L’Experience Paris has expanded to five locations, four of which are open from breakfast through midafternoon, with the Bellevue location serving dinner each evening. Each location also includes a retail space for customers to find their favorite French wine, tasty treats, and unique gifts.
A perfect way to begin each day is with coffee and a classic Parisian breakfast menu item, the croissant, presented with a variety of flavor pairings sure to please any palette. “When you think about morning in Paris, you think about a croissant,” says Julien. “We use only traditional techniques and no shortcuts in making our croissants, which I think are the best croissants west of Paris. It’s a three-day process using only French ingredients and we never freeze our dough.”
Breakfast and brunch also offer other classic French favorites such as eggs benedict and an assortment of savory quiches. Rounding out the café experience are the many freshly made patisseries, or sweet cakes, which highlight seasonal flavors and ingredients.
The dinner experience at the Bellevue location captures the essence of a French bistro. “It’s not pretentious. We’re not looking for a Michelin star experience; we’re looking for something where people will feel comfortable,” explains Julien. “It’s really all about having a good time, putting a smile on people’s face, and making sure after a long day of work, you’re able to enjoy good food and wine with friends.”
Central to the entire experience are the exquisite wines Julien imports specially for his customers. “Our wines are very popular. All of the wines are from small winemakers and are exclusive to us because we bring them directly from France,” says Julien. “Our sparkling wines are very popular for breakfast, whether it’s a sparkling wine from the Loire Valley or Champagne.”
L’Experience Paris also offers a full catering menu, and Julien says he and the staff really enjoy hosting events in the restaurants

as well as off-site in other locations. “We love to create custom events for people when they have something that comes to mind that resonates with French themes,” he shares. “Recently, we did a birthday party where someone wanted it to be Parisian chic and we designed a special party for them.”
The team also recently welcomed a group of students from a French-American school who came to learn the art and tradition behind making croissants. Whether through the atmosphere, food, wine, or relationships, for Julien it is all about sharing something he is passionate about, his homeland. “The French brand, as we’ll call it, is very powerful for people who have traveled to Paris and want to get a little escape from the daily routine,” says Julien. “For me, it’s all about transmitting our cultural heritage and traditions and sharing France as it should be at a broader level.”
L’Experience Paris has five locations including Kirkland and Bellevue. For more information and to browse menus, make a reservation, and explore the unique gift items in the retail stores, visit lexperienceparis.com . Also follow @lexperienceparis on Instagram.

“WE HAVE BUILT A FULL AUTHENTIC FRENCH FOOD EXPERIENCE. EVERYTHING WE MAKE IS ACCORDING TO TRADITION, WITH THE BEST INGREDIENTS.”

YOUR INSIDER GUIDE TO THE VALLEY’S BEST POURS, BEST PLATES, AND ELEGANT PLACES TO UNWIND.

“Walla Walla is proving its resilience and pushing the wine industry forward.”
Washington’s wine industry continues to be recognized nationally and globally for their acclaimed winemakers, distinctive varietals, and a landscape that blends rugged beauty with agricultural richness. For those of us lucky enough to call this state home, one of the country’s premier wine destinations is practically in our backyard: Walla Walla. Just a few hours from the city, this sun-soaked valley offers an impressive mix of innovative tasting rooms, family-run estates, and vineyards that consistently earn national praise. Pair that with exceptional restaurants and charming places to stay, and it’s no wonder Walla Walla has become the weekend escape we return to again and again.
The wine industry is no stranger to challenges, shaped by shifting consumer tastes, climate pressures, and increasing competition. Yet Walla

Walla continues to meet these challenges with ambition and creativity. Winemakers here are experimenting with diverse varietals, fine-tuning farming practices, and rethinking how they connect with visitors. The Walla Walla wine industry is proving its resilience—evolving in ways that honor its roots while pushing the industry forward.
Bellevue Lifestyle recently headed east to experience the Walla Walla scene firsthand. We chose the scenic drive; which is always a rewarding way to ease into wine country, but the quick, convenient flight is just as appealing. However you arrive, we strongly suggest leaving the actual touring to a hired driver. It’s the easiest way to sink into the weekend, relax between stops, and fully enjoy each tasting without a hint of logistics on your mind. Tesla Winery Tours is a fantastic option to get around town, especially if you want the added experience of a tour guide. Alternatively, check out Wallaround, a local, appbased ride share service that caters to guest looking for elevated transportation without the full tour service.
Our home base for the weekend was the historic Marcus Whitman, Eastern Washington’s flagship luxury hotel. The modern comfort and charming décor, as well as the central location, made it an ideal hub for exploring the valley. Our evenings ended with a nightcap at the hotel’s lively bar—a welcoming spot to unwind after a day of tasting—while the morning breakfast offered just the right fuel to start all over again.
While we didn’t have time to explore every great winery, the following favorites impressed us with their pours, plates, and overall vibe.
The perfect stop for delicious wine and casual food. The Walls serves amazing woodfired pizzas, sandwiches, salads, charcuterie boards, and other tasty nibbles. The Walls was originally meant as a play on the Washington State Penitentiary, one of Walla Walla’s most notorious landmarks.
Elegant and modern ambience. Everen’s wine is sustainably farmed and crafted to pair beautifully with whatever’s fresh and in season. Their tasting room sits just above the 3.5 acre estate vineyard and offers a relaxed, design-forward setting with views of the Blue Mountains.
Don’t miss this tasting room with stunning architecture and views. Created in 2018, Echolands goal is to craft responsibly produced wines that reflect the potential for elegance and balance from this singular place.
One of Washington State’s few woman-owned wineries. Dedicated to all women who, like great wines and true works of art, meet the challenges ahead of them with fortitude and style. The tasting room is conveniently located downtown.
Dossier’s Walla Walla downtown tasting room embodies their wine and brand: elevated, engaging and modern. Dossier offers a fresh approach to luxury wine inspired by the region’s great potential, incredible local talent, and distinctive terroir.

The Marc Restaurant showcases inspired menus, featuring locally sourced ingredients prepared with innovative flair. It’s a charming place to start your day with breakfast, or end with the day with an elevated dining experience.
Located in the Historic Whitehouse Crawford Building, Salted Mill is a gathering place for the community with a menu that focuses on locally sourced ingredients, a full-service bar, and an ambiance for all. We recommend booking a table in one of the large wine barrels for the full experience!
Tom Maccarone, native Walla Wallan and the namesake for TMACS, showcases Walla Walla Valley’s agricultural bounty with fresh, farm-to-table ingredients. His vision of the restaurant emphasizes community collaboration from the working with city officials and local charities, to sourcing local purveyors for fresh ingredients and products.
Brasserie Four is a French restaurant located on Main Street in downtown Walla Walla. Offering the classic dishes of France along with fine wines, cocktails, craft beers, locally roasted coffee, and local art, experience a meal in its intimate dining room, bar or patio.
Don’t miss this breakfast spot delivering modern and elevated diner vibes. Bacon & Eggs is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Inspired by the farm-to-table movement and sustainability, each dish is inspired by a place or experience the owners have shared and is made from scratch.

Not every date night needs to involve reservations or an elaborate itinerary. With a little creativity, you can create magical moments right at home. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or just want to reconnect, here are three ideas for unforgettable at-home date nights.

Transform your backyard or balcony into a dreamy picnic spot! Spread out a cozy blanket, add a few fluffy pillows, and hang string lights or fairy lights for ambiance. A small fire pit or lanterns can also add a romantic glow.
Pack a picnic basket with finger foods and a bottle of wine or sparkling water. Don’t forget a decadent dessert like chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Lay back and stargaze, identifying constellations or making wishes on shooting starts. To make it extra romantic, bring a bluetooth speaker and play soft music.
Unleash your inner artists with one of these three fun and interactive dates. Grab some inexpensive canvases, brushes, and acrylic paints from the craft store. Don’t forget aprons or old clothes to protect against spills!
• Paint each other’s portraits for a mix of laughter and creativity.
• Work on a collaborative paintingeach person adds their own touch to a single canvas.
• Try a themed painting challenge, like recreating your favorite memory together. Pair this date with a cheese platter and wine and don’t worry about being “good’ at painting - it’s all about enjoying the process together.
Start the day with love by turning breakfast into an indulgent experience. Prepare a tray with a DIY breakfast charcuterie board. Include mini pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, bacon, and pastries. Add small bowls of toppings like syrup, Nutella, or whipped cream.
Mix up mimosas or serve coffee with flavored syrups and whipped cream for a café vibe. Then, snuggle up in bed and watch a favorite movie or TV series.

A PINK COCKTAIL PERFECT FOR CELEBRATING VALENTINE’S DAY
This Valentine's Day, whether you plan to treat a loved one, treat your girlfriends, or treat yourself, I can promise you'll want to serve up this perfectly pink cocktail; one I like to call Love Potion #9. It looks as fabulous as it tastes. You can't beat the bright, fresh grapefruit juice and the bubbles add a lively kiss on top. Each sip is dreamier than the next. Cheers, here's to love!
• 1.5 oz rosé
• 5 oz fresh grapefruit juice
• 5 oz simple syrup
• 1 egg white
• 3 oz bubbles (champagne or sparkling wine)
1. Pour the rosé, simple syrup, egg white, and grapefruit juice into an ice-filled shaker.
2. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, until chilled.
3. Pour into a coupe glass using the strainer.
4. Top with champagne or sparkling wine.
5. Garnish with edible flowers and grapefruit peel.
6. Enjoy!
