Now—as unbelievable as it may seem—it’s time to do it all over again.

The holiday season and the end of the year always bring about a feeling of reflection and a feeling of closure. It's a time to embrace the new, and let go of the old. What worked for you in 2017? What didn't? What did you accomplish in 2017? What did you fail to get around to? Whatever your answer, thankfully there's a whole new year ahead. It’s a time to find ways to make the holiday season as special as it can be to those who haven’t seen 2017 as very special. Whether it’s volunteering your time at local shelters or donating your money to local charities, giving back to the Bellevue community can help make this time of year special for everyone. The lights will be on display from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., December 1-31, including holidays at the Bellevue Botanical Garden, 12001 Main St. Tickets are $5 per person for those 11 and up; children 10 and under are free. Purchase advance tickets at GardendLights.org or buy at the door. Hot drinks and snacks will be available for purchase in the Aaron Education Center. There will be musical entertainment most evenings. Delight in the Gingerbread House Village in the Aaron Education Center, crafted by our Wilburton Hill neighbors!

CITY COLLECTS TOYS AND FOOD AT FIRE STATIONS All nine Bellevue fire stations are accepting food and toys for Bellevue families in need. The Toy and Food Drive, operated by the Bellevue Firefighters Community Support Foundation, runs until December 12. New, unwrapped toys will be handed out at the Crossroads Youth Holiday Party on December 19. Nonperishable canned and prepackaged food will go to Hopelink, which operates food banks in Bellevue. Gifts will be accepted through December 24 for distribution to Bellevue families experiencing challenges this holiday season. Any of the following contributions would be welcome: • For infants: plush animals, toys and gift cards • For children ages 3-10: new books, games, sports equipment such as soccer balls and basketballs, arts and crafts kits, cars/trucks, dolls and plush animals • For teens: gift cards to restaurants, malls and clothing and music stores • Cash donations to purchase needed items. hen it comes to whiskey, Maker’s Mark is a household name. It’s no wonder considering the bourbon, with its iconic bottle shape and signature red wax seal, has been

in production since the late 1950s. What some may be less familiar with is the entire cast of characters in the Maker’s Mark family. To celebrate Maker’s Mark Private Select, their newest and most innovate release, the brand teamed up with executive chef Derek Bugge of Seattle’s new 2120 restaurant. Bugge and his team curated a special menu inspired by Maker’s Mark for an intimate TasteMakers dinner at 2120. Bugge’s menu consisted of six courses, each paired with a handcrafted cocktail featuring Maker's 46. 2120 uses only the freshest ingredients sourced from farms in and around the local countryside. This menu was no exception, boasting items such as geoduck tartare and quail with tender chanterelle mushrooms. Beverages were custom created to complement the cuisine and dazzle the palate. Guests were welcomed to the dinner with a whiskey tasting hosted by Jane Bowie, distillery maturation specialist. The tasting included the original Maker’s Mark, Maker’s Mark Cask Strength Bourbon, Maker's 46 and the new Private Select. As attendees sipped their whiskey, Jane detailed the company’s rich history, explained the barrel aging process, and how to best enjoy a tasting. “It is best to do a tasting before dining,” she says. “When the palate anticipates eating, it is able to pick up more distinct flavors.” With each course, Bugge introduced his creations and their accompanying beverage, beginning with foie gras topped with pumpernickel and fig. The earthy elements were thoughtfully coupled with a cocktail consisting of charred fig, orange bitters and Maker’s 46. “We wanted to create a correlation between the whiskey and what we do here,” Bugge explains of the menu. The TasteMakers dinner series was started at the distillery as a special event. As the success of the event grew, Maker’s began partnering with chefs all around the country to create these uniquely memorable experiences. This evening at 2120 was no exception.
