Eric Marshall Wright's very first hair salon client, Lynn, still comes to him for services. As stylist and owner of Eric Marshall Salon at 4311 Harding Pike, he says that makes him feel more than grateful. "I've always had a passion for hair," reveals this Nashville native, whose team offers cuts, color, root touch-ups, hi-lighting, blow drying/styling and extension services for men and women. In fact, Eric went straight to cosmetology school after graduating from the Nashville School of the Arts. He assisted for a year after completing his program, and says he continues to value his education outside of the salon. Grey coverage and removing weight from dense hair are two of Eric's main pursuits. He credits his mother, who has thick hair, for his love of creating hair movement and softness. "I actually love mature hair

and dry cutting. Everyone's eventually going to go grey, so we might as well handle it gracefully together." Indeed, Eric headed back to Italy at the end of October to complete a second, sixday advanced training with Davines with dozens of hairstylists from around the globe. He completed the first, six-day training portion this July. While there, attendees do a deep-dive into hair-related theories, scientific chemistry and elevated thinking and approaches to hair coloring, including the latest discoveries about how hair grows. In January, he will complete a test to hopefully become an "international color genius." Eric's team also carries Emogene & Co. skin care and Denman brushes. He actually won a national competition through Denman, and serves as a brand ambassador. Because many of the Eric Marshall Salon clients are professionals, Eric says they all enjoy having detailed conversations about what each one learns through various classes that cover different business sectors. "I always want to grow as I age," he adds. When opening the salon within a historic Belle Meade building in April 2021 during

the COVID-19 pandemic, Eric says the situation meshed well with his plans to start small and build. Prior, he co-owned a salon in Midtown, but says taking business classes inspired him to open his own salon. Joining him became CJ Asselin, a color specialist and hairstylist who relocated to Nashville from Los Angeles. Assisting Eric currently is Caroline Shaw, also a hairstylist, who graduated from Franklin Hair Academy during this past January. "CJ, Caroline and I happily work as a team, providing each other with second opinions and sharing our knowledge because we truly enjoy striving to make our clients' hair dreams into realities," Eric states. Music City newcomers Leo Brooks and Andrew Millsaps comprise the duo Neon Union. Together, they vow to continue bringing a neoteric sound to country music, with "808 kick drums married to a traditional country lyric and anthemic pop melodies." While sometimes singing about being "redneck rich," Leo says they love vibing out and letting their upbeat music transport listeners to a place away from stress of everyday life. Since signing with Jay DeMarcus’ Red Street Records in 2022, Neon Union was named Billboard’s Rookie of the Month, and earned performance slots with the ACMs and CMA Fest. They also opened for musical acts such as Scotty McCreery and Pitbull. The duo's debut, charted single was “Bout Damn Time.” With lyrics like the following, Bout Damn Time set the expectation of the fresh, snappy bop these two singers were setting out to deliver: "It's about damn time, We threw a party on the radio waves, Singing what we live, Cause it's all we know to say, There ain't been a song For the hey-y'all outlaw, down home kind and It's about damn time."

Fans admire their bluesy-rock, jamming-style, cut-through-the clutter Southern Country music, combined with "Sunday morning easy" lyrics. Many of their songs are heart-felt tributes to "the Middle of Nowhere" individuals, lifestyles and communities. "At our live events, they're telling us how much they enjoy that we rock out, that we're really doing it," says Andrew, AKA Saps. This fall, they also specifically produced and showcased a hit single titled "This Side of the Dirt" as a way to express how thankful they are to their wife and girlfriend for supporting their on-the-road pursuit of the dream they're living. "We put out this song to remind them how thankful we are for every last day, hour, minute and second we get to spend with them," explains Andrew. Both musicians have been influenced by a variety of artists. Leo grew up in Miami, playing guitar and listening to the music of Hank Williams and George Jones. He's collaborated with artists such as Pitbull (as his bass guitarist and musical director for 12 years), Lauryn Hill, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, Cee Lo Green and John Legend. Leo's family is from Roatán, a Caribbean island off the coast of Honduras, where country music and reggae are prominent music genres. Andrew grew up in North Carolina and says he's been writing songs since the age of 13. He played local venues in his home state before becoming a semi-finalist in the “Music City Song Competition.” When the two were introduced in 2021, they say they knew instantly that their sound and musical styles would blend to create catchy, memorable tunes, and that they didn't even have to practice harmonizing. "Us together is a God-thing," they chime. They plan to release a full-length album during 2024, with up to half the lyrics embodying their own original work. Leo calls Andrew a "lyrical genius," and Andrew applauds Leo's ability to create melodies and produce demos. Although, they admit they tweak each other during their creative process. Why name their duo Neon Union? Andrew says the name represents the bar crowd, the party crowd, the blue collar crowd, everybody all in one. “It’s like neon lights, there’s so many different colors and styles, and everybody’s welcome to join the Union. Show up, show your true colors, be who you are. Let’s have some fun. That’s what it’s all about.” NeonUnionMusic.com

"Holiday glam is my favorite!” exclaims professional makeup artist and licensed esthetician, Brittany Mincey. “Using fun colors for the holiday and adding shimmer to the eyes, and even the lips, is a chic and vibrant look.” Here, she provides some great tips to put your best face forward at upcoming holiday parties. “Think red tones and winter colors with a pop of shimmer,” says Brittany. “High-shine shadows are so in right now.” She recommends Urban Decay eye shadow in “moondust.” “It’s a trending product, and is best applied after spraying setting spray and then applying with a brush,” she explains. Shower Them With Love

Nonprofit 'Shower The People' Lend Helping Hand To Homeless

In the midst of the bustling city that is Nashville, homelessness remains a consistent and heart-wrenching issue. Amidst the crisis, there are shining beacons of hope and compassion for those who face homelessness. One nonprofit in particular, Shower the People, is dedicated to restoring humanity and showcasing compassion, one mobile shower at a time. Shower the People has been operating since 2017, when a group of members from Green Street Church of Christ purchased a bus and transformed it into a safe place where those who need it are welcome to come and have access to showers. The bus pops up at several different locations throughout the week to make the showers even more accessible. They also give out free pairs of undergarments and socks as well as offer laundry services to those who need it. Meredith MacLeoud, Shower the People executive director and co-founder, is one of the many dedicated people that make the organization possible. “I always like to make sure that people remember the folks we serve are not lazy,” says Meredith. “A lot of them have some mental health issues, or disabilities, or things out of their control that have led them to be homeless, and just remember that when interacting with them.” The bus is a 1990 International 3800 school bus with two full private bathrooms on board and the ability to connect to the hydrant system. Additionally, the bus can catch/carry 200 gallons of water for when a hydrant system is not available. The bus appears at four different locations throughout the week. Currently, the bus can be found at Trinity Community Commons on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:40 p.m., the Oasis Center on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, Belmont Church from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Fridays at the City Road Church in Madison from 6-9 p.m. Wherever they go, people show up. Typically, the nonprofit serves approximately 100120 people a week between the four locations, and currently provide laundry services for 12 families. On top of that, those involved with the organization are trained social workers and equipped to help them through the trauma they have undergone.

“We are just a safe space for people to come to and I feel like we have to be,” says Meredith. “They feel very comfortable telling me they need help with food stamps, or that they’re ready for recovery, or if they’re in a domestic violence situation once they’ve kind of built up that trust with us.” Ending homeless is not something that can be accomplished overnight. However, with organizations, such as Shower the People, it’s a step in the right direction. With guidance and a support system, the journey becomes easier and their seemingly small acts of kindness go a long way for those with whom they interact. Despite the organization’s name, Shower the People offers more than showers to those in need. “We do a lot of housing navigation although we’re not housing navigators, we also do a lot of resource navigation although we’re not resource navigators,” Meredith says. “Our goal is to just make people’s lives a little better when we are not with them, whether it’s from giving them hygiene supplies, or give them a shower, or help them figure out this stress of applying for food stamps or something like that. I always tell people I always have a hard time telling people no if it’s a hard thing they’re asking. So as long as we can do it, we’ll do it and if we can’t, we will find someone who can.” While Shower the People does not have any fundraisers coming up, they are focusing on their winter push, which Meredith references as “Making Nashville a Kinder, Warmer Winter.” This push is centered around on gathering more supplies. Getting these supplies are the organization's biggest expensive as they provide nearly 100 pairs of underwear and socks to those in need on a weekly basis. They also always appreciate some extra helping hands. “We can do so much more if we had more people,” says Meredith. “But people need money, so obviously funding would enable us to hire more people and make a bigger impact.” Shower the People reminds people that in the face of homelessness, that there is hope, one shower at a time. info@showerthepeople.net ShowerThePeople.net
