Five, Four, Three, Two, One! Happy New Year!!!
AD DESIGNER
AS WE BEGIN 2022, WE SET GOALS FOR WHAT WE WANT OUR FUTURE SELVES TO BE LIKE AND LOOK LIKE. It’s a new year, and that signifies new beginnings and a fresh start. With how busy life becomes, it is a nice reprieve to be still for a moment and reflect on where we have been, what the past year has taught us, what we want to grow and learn from, and where we want to go from there. The practice of establishing new goals or a resolution for the coming year is something that can help us focus on what is truly a priority or at least what should be. Some of the most popular New Year’s resolutions focus on getting healthier and spending more time with the people we cherish. Other goals may be more community focused, revolving around being intentional about finding ways to help people in need in our city. Whatever your goals may be this year, know that the simple act of making a goal is a great first step. We then just have to move from simply thinking about doing those things to making a daily decision to act on them. Our January issue is dedicated to "Health & Wellness" in the New Year: eating right, physical fitness, and purposeful connections. The importance of being healthy in body, mind and spirit is the focus of this issue. Our hope for you in this New Year is one of wellness, health, and love. As we move into a new year, we will continue to be right there to share your stories and celebrate your milestones. Thank you for being part of our story and letting us be part of yours. Here's to a beautiful 2022!

Having clean air in the home can help clear that up.”
Changing the filter on your air conditioning unit can be a messy chore, especially if you haven’t gotten around to it in a while. As disgusting as it may be, though, it’s a sobering thought to look at all that grayish-brown dirt and imagine it suspended in the air inside your home, knowing that it will eventually find its way into your lungs, your eyes, and your food. “The filter is basically your first line of defense when it comes to your home’s air quality,” said Rick Hoskins of Filter King. “All the air in your house circulates constantly through your AC, so having a clean filter definitely improves the air quality.” With Filter King’s unique business model, homeowners have several options when it comes to purchasing filters. Many of their customers take advantage of their subscription service and have high-quality filters delivered to their homes on a schedule, so they always know when it’s time to change it. “We offer several kinds of quality filters, from a MERV rating of 11 up to 13,” he said. “The higher that rating is, the better it is at filtering particles out of the air. There are also options like an odor eliminator which is actually charcoal based and it will take odors out of your house.” For homeowners, Rick said their main priority is usually their health and the health of their families. “Poor air quality makes people sick,” he said. “Customers often come to us because they’re experiencing allergies, runny nose, itchy eyes, and other respiratory issues. Having clean air in the home can help clear that up.” For more information, visit filterking.com.

The start of a New Year means a lot of people are making resolutions. While they often include goals like saving money and getting organized, the most common New Year's resolutions involve improving your health. It's a worthwhile goal because better health typically goes hand in hand with feeling better, looking better, being happier, and living longer. Still, anyone who has set a New Year's resolution knows that, more often than not, your will power usually lasts until February or March before you settle into old routines

PROMOTING HEALTH AND WELLNESS DRIP BY DRIP AT NÜVO YOU, IV THERAPY PROVIDES OPTIMAL HEALTH, AS WELL AS RELIEF FOR A WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS ARTICLE BY ANDY CINGOLANI PHOTOGRAPHY BY PROVIDED In the 1960s, as IV infusion pumps became standard equipment in hospitals across the country, Dr. John Myers developed what he called a “cocktail” of vitamins, minerals, and fluids for patients suffering from conditions like heart disease and fibromyalgia. At Nüvo You, Ashwin Sabbani, M.D. and his team of board-certified nurses, paramedics, and physician assistants are making IV therapy easily available to promote wellness and treat certain conditions. No hospital stay required. According to Dr. Sabbani, IV clinics started gaining popularity in Las Vegas more recently as a way to administer fluids and nutrients to get rid of a hangover. Because an IV bypasses the digestive system, the treatment works quickly compared to simply drinking a lot of water. Since then, however, the conditions that can be treated have expanded. “Most of our clients come to us for their general health or as a preventive treatment,” he said. “People may not necessarily feel bad when they come to us and we’ll recommend the Myers cocktail, which will flush your kidneys and rehydrate you. Then, they notice they feel great for a week or two after the IV, so they come back.” Another highly effective IV treatment, especially for new patients, is their “Detox and Vitamin Infusion,” which contains vitamins and trace minerals to correct deficiencies and reduce free radicals. “It’s got zinc, which helps with free radicals,” Dr. Sabbani said. “It’s also got B complex and vitamin C, so it’s good for people who have never tried IV therapy before and they don’t have something specific they want to treat. They just want to feel better and have more energy.” For other patients, who are looking for relief from a nagging health condition, there are effective IV treatments, especially for conditions where traditional medicine doesn’t have solutions.
“Fibromyalgia is a good example because it causes a lot of distress due to the chronic pain,” he said. “In that case, the Myers cocktail provides a lot of relief. It’s also very useful for chronic fatigue and even allergies as well.” For more information about IV therapies, visit nuvoyou.com.

BEAUTY AND STYLE IN MIAMI BEACH AT MUSE HEALTH & BEAUTY, CUSTOMERS DAZZLE WITH GORGEOUS NAILS, HAIR, AND SKIN. ARTICLE BY ANDY CINGOLANI Take a walk around Miami Beach and it’s easy to see that the standards for beauty are set pretty high. It’s simply part of the culture that, even just strolling leisurely up and down Collins Avenue, people like to make sure they look their best. And while it’s a standard that people embrace proudly, that doesn’t mean it’s easy to live up to. For Malika Kosimova, owner of Muse Health & Beauty, her mission is to make sure her customers feel good about themselves and their appearance. “We are a full-service beauty salon,” Malika said. “Our most popular service is doing nails, like manicures and pedicures, and our most popular manicure is a Russian gel manicure. Customers like the way it looks and the techniques we use, like drying it with a special machine.” According to Malika, hair care and skin care are also a big part of their thriving business. Many of their hair care customers are looking for hair coloring treatment, mostly women who want their hair bleached blonde. “It’s a difficult technique,” she said. “That’s why customers like us. You have to be very experienced and knowledgeable to do it right and we’ve had a lot of success with it.” Meanwhile, their skin care services include the highly popular European facial, one of several facials customers can choose from. “What makes us different is that we work in a very customized way,” she said. “It involves how we evaluate the customer’s skin, how we cleanse their skin, and the result is a unique program for each client based on their skin care needs. Plus, we use only the highest quality of equipment and products and our customers appreciate that.” Located at 527 Jefferson Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Meet Oscar Feldenkreis, CEO and President of Perry Ellis International From stocking inventory to leading a global fashion house, a career focused on culture, strategy, and purpose. ARTICLE BY ANDY CINGOLANI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY PROVIDED
For most high school kids, a part-time job is little more than a way to make some walking-around money. Not for Oscar Feldenkreis, though. By the time Oscar started working at Supreme International – the apparel company owned by his father, George Feldenkreis – in 1980, he had already accumulated some retail experience from working in various retail stores, gaining an understanding of how retail operations worked on the front lines. “I contributed in any way I could, from stocking inventory to being very inquisitive and especially helping customers,” he said. “That was the beginning of my passion for sales. I joined my father’s company

and had a vision for creating fashion brands. Since then, I've always enjoyed the design and creative aspect of the business.” As CEO and President of Perry Ellis International, Oscar leads a global fashion house representing a diverse portfolio of lifestyle brands, including Perry Ellis, Perry Ellis America, An Original Penguin by Munsingwear, Callaway, PGA Tour, Ben Hogan, Cubavera, Savane, Rafaella, Laundry by Shelli Segal, Farah, and Nike Swim. He has been immersed in all aspects of the organization and takes great pride in the company’s culture, as

well as providing the organization’s strategic direction. Oscar’s entrepreneurial spirit, visionary leadership, and approach to the future continue to transform its legacy, which has lasted over 50 years. “It has been a generational business,” he said. “As a family-owned company you immerse yourself in every aspect. My responsibilities included working in the sample room to our distribution centers. I also traveled to Asia on sourcing and design trips at a very early age, which allowed me to gain the initial understanding of the manufacturing segment.” In recent years, retail has experienced a massive transition, shifting from brickand-mortar retail locations to an online marketplace, forcing many businesses to adapt or perish. For Oscar, success in this arena is a result of being flexible, smart, and decisive. “Taking a strategic and holistic planning approach to the brand business is key,” he said. “Utilizing technology coupled with sales data, and offering the right merchandise mix and inventory, aides in providing the best ecommerce consumer experience. Ultimately, the ability to be nimble and infuse the right digital strategy, including social media and various digital marketing platforms, to accommodate all retail channels of distribution is essential especially in this ever-changing retail environment.” In addition to his role as CEO of Perry Ellis international and all its brands, Oscar is devoted to a range of civic and philanthropic commitments. He is a member of the YPO/WPO and belongs to the United Way of Miami-Dade’s Tocqueville Society. He supports the Greater Miami Chapter of the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, the Kosher Food Bank, and sits on the Miami Dade College advisory board for the Miami Fashion Institute.

“My father instilled the importance of giving back early,” he added. “As JewishCuban immigrants, we know firsthand the struggles and opportunities we have experienced. There’s nothing more important and gratifying than to give rather than receive. I’m proud to be able to donate to many charitable organizations and share this philosophy with my children and associates alike.” Oscar has been married to his wife Ellen for 39 years and lives in Miami Beach. The Cold Plunge
Dive Into The Wellness World’s Hottest (Actually, Coldest) Addition 32
S ELF CA R E | WEL L NESS
Are you ready to take the plunge? It’s a question you may not have asked yourself before but will now. So what is “The Cold Plunge?” In short, it’s a brisk, three-minute immersion into a cold tub that triggers the body into a state of regulation, greatly improving levels of energy, mental and physical strength and blood circulation. The profound effects of The Plunge can impact your overall health, from reducing chronic pain and inflammation to boosting metabolism and focus and creating better sleep and mental clarity. Co-founded by two entrepreneurs who bonded over their love for health and business, Ryan Duey and Mike Garrett found a friendship and created a vision to rejuvenate people. Two to three minutes a day of plunging into 39-55 degrees of cold water stimulates the mind, body and soul and sets your day into optimistic motion. In a short 12 months, The Cold Plunge quickly garnered attention as a result of organic growth, wellness influencers who embraced the product, and a pandemic that forced people to focus on their health and added time at home. It’s also worth noting that the likes of Tony Hawk and Kerri Walsh Jennings swear by their cold plunges for their athletic recovery. The goal with the cold water is to lower your core body temperature, and it takes time to do that. “Water cools your body at 25 times what cold air does. Cold water is the quickest activation to do it.” Ryan shares his sentiment on doing something uncomfortable first thing in the morning to make the biggest, most positive impact on your day. What you can expect to feel is, “I did something first thing in the morning that I didn’t want to do, but I know it is good for me.” Cold plunging can be done daily or multiple times a day. It’s all about getting people to explore what works for them. They may offer up recommendations, but ultimately it’s you building a relationship with your cold plunge. Many like the morning plunge, others enjoy nighttime. For some, it cools the body down resulting in better sleep. The Cold Plunge offers four different models, all the same size, all cold at 39-55 degrees, and one that can turn into a hot tub at 103 degrees. The heat can be great for clients in really cold environments. There is also an app to control the temperature via bluetooth. You can find The Cold Plunge at thecoldplunge.com and @the.coldplunge on Instagram.
