REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONAL @ BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY HOMESERVICES EWM REALTY
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP, AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW? I grew up in North Beach along with several family members who all had homes in the same neighborhood, which was really fun as a kid! It’s pretty cool to say that I’ve come full circle and am now living back on the same island of Biscayne Point. FOR AN AWESOME CULINARY EXPERIENCE IN MIAMI BEACH, WHERE DO YOU GO? I am a big fan of Japanese Omakase and to me the best experience by far is a very cool 8 seat hidden restaurant called HIDEN located in Wynwood, which transports you to a speakeasy sushi experience in Tokyo. In Miami Beach I’m a big fan of Stubborn Seed for a chef-driven experience and Silverlake Bistro for a “mom and pop” local experience. FAVORITE THING TO DO TO RELAX? Diving or snorkeling in amazing water, preferably in the Bahamas. Bimini is so close by and easy to enjoy for a quick trip. The Florida Keys can provide a similar experience. That’s the ultimate meditation for me and finishing that kind of day with a great cigar is even better. FURTHEST PLACE YOU’VE TRAVELED TO? It may not be the furthest but almost… Morocco is one of the most enchanting places to visit because of the culture, architecture, history and incredible food scene. WHERE ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO RUN INTO JASON? Searching for the next great new coffee shop in between appointments or to settle down for admin work. I’m a huge fan of authentic experiences. WHY REAL ESTATE? As a former Ritz-Carlton Hotel Director, serving people has always been my passion. Real Estate is something I’ve always followed since I was a kid and it was a perfect segway from the hospitality industry. I am able to achieve a similar satisfaction that I had when assisting hotel guests but in this case for much longer term as I find my clients homes that become
part of their life experiences. It’s all about building long and strong relationships for life. The last 10 years in this business have been such a blast.
IF YOU COULD LIVE ANYWHERE IN MIAMI BEACH, WHERE WOULD YOU PURCHASE? La Gorce Island is an amazing island, low key but arguably the most beautiful and very well taken care of. WHAT DO YOU FEEL IS YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE? To have a unified, strong and happy family life especially with my two boys Joseph and Jaime and my beautiful wife Galit. From a career perspective it’s to help create unique and lasting memories for all of my clients.
WHAT DOES SERVICE MEAN TO YOU AND IS THERE ANY GREAT EXAMPLE OF IT THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE? It’s funny because “service” and “customer service” are usually such loosely used terms with no soul. Prime example- walk into a grocery store to the customer service desk… it’s a total oxymoron! Real service is a blend of anticipation, urgency, authenticity and trust. I’m a big believer in doing whatever it takes to create a “wow” factor. A few weeks ago a client visiting from Chicago left a very important file at his hotel in Miami that he needed for a meeting that evening back in Chicago. I hopped on the next flight and delivered it to his home. CONNECT WITH JASON 305.975.4061 @ZARCO.REALESTATE

MIAMI BEACH WELCOMES NEW NAUTICAL-THEMED PLAYGROUND Miami Beach officials took the wraps off a new nautical-themed playground on October 21 with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, beach cleanup and bird release to mark the occasion. The new Indian Beach Park features a kid-sized lighthouse, lifeguard stand, sea turtle, coral rock, and dolphin climber, as well as a swing set, slides and even a play surfboard and personal watercraft. “It’s exciting to imagine all the new memories that will be created here by children,” Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak said. Indian Beach Park is located at 4601 Collins Ave.
NEW SEASON OF FREE FILMS UNDER THE STARS Entering its 12th season, the Cinema Series at SoundScape Park returns this month – featuring free weekly movies curated by the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). The films are projected onto a 7,000-square-foot wall of the New World Center through a freestanding state-of-the art visual and audio system, which was recently upgraded this summer to provide a resolution four times greater than high definition. Movies scheduled for the season include The Karate Kid (1984), The Grinch who Stole Christmas (2000), The Outsiders (1983), and more. “This is a great opportunity for families to take in a classic film or family-friendly movie in a beautiful setting,” shared Miami Beach City Manager Alina T. Hudak. “It’s a re-imagined drive-in theater without cars.”

ARTIST’S PALETTE MILDA ALEKNAITE FEEDS HER PASSION FOR HER ART WITH A DEDICATION TO CREATIVITY
ARTICLE ANDY CINGOLANI | PHOTOGRAPHY ARMANDO COLLS
E X PR E S S I NG E M O T ION T H R OUG H T E X T U R E , LI G H T, A N D S H A D O W ELEVEN YEARS AGO, Milda Aleknaite WAS PARTICIPATING IN A SOUTH BEACH EXHIBITION WITH SEVERAL OTHER ARTISTS, SHOWING SIX OF HER PAINTINGS. Upon returning after a short time away, she discovered that her paintings were gone – stolen by one of the artists, someone she trusted. On that day, Milda almost stopped being an artist. In fact, she did stop painting for four years. “It was absolutely devastating,” she said. “I questioned my own judgment. My judgment with people, my judgment about my creativity. I just didn’t want to paint anymore.” Milda never recovered the paintings. After four years, however, she did rediscover her passion and creativity for her art. As it turns out, it was a rebirth. When she started painting again, she noticed subtle changes in her work. “When I came back to it, I started with abstract figuratives and felt like the paintings were much

The company was founded 1957 with the purchase of a 16-acre site in Bal Harbour. “The company was started by my grandfather, Stanley Whitman, who saw the potential in luxury retail long before others in the shopping-center industry,” Matthew said. “When he purchased that site, he paid 20 times more than anyone had for retail property. In the same way that Walt Disney was hyper-focused on making people feel happy, Stanley Whitman made them feel special.” This focus on the shopping experience can be seen clearly by taking a stroll through Bal Harbour Shops. While it was being designed, every aspect of the shopper’s journey through the shopping center was scrutinized and, if possible, improved. “In addition to the lushly landscaped, open-air setting that sits just across from the Atlantic Ocean, and the curated luxury retail experience, we have maintained an emotional connection to our customers around the globe. In fact, we’ve been laser focused on the customer experience for nearly 60 years.” In recent years, with the rise of online shopping, a revolution has taken place in retail. In the last couple of decades, some retailers have thrived while others have not. To Matthew, it's a more complex issue than CONTINUED >

the narrative that brick-and-mortar stores have failed and been replaced with online retailers. “Shopping malls have to adapt and pivot to the needs of their customers,” he said. “Bal Harbour Shops recently announced the launch of the Bal Harbour Shops Marketplace, its first online platform, which brings a unique approach to e-commerce.” One big difference between Bal Harbour Shops Marketplace and other aggregate retail sites will be a focus on providing quality content that complements the online shopping experience, as opposed to just directing them to partner retail websites. “It reimagines the online model with a dynamic, editorially driven platform laden with shoppable content,” he said. “BHS Marketplace includes a wealth of editorial content, such as stories on the latest fashion trends showcasing pieces from multiple designers, or a profile of a designer celebrating a milestone anniversary, or opening a new boutique. Rather than directing shoppers to individual store sites, BHS Marketplace has its own microsite featuring the latest products from all of its participating brands.” He added, “the Bal Harbour shopper is someone who comes to the physical center with great frequency, but is also someone who shops at balharbourshops.com for convenience. These channels are synergistic, not competitive, and each reinforces the other. E-commerce can co-exist with brick and mortar successfully.”

IceBaby Jewelry is Dazzling south florida and beyond UNIQUELY DESIGNED AND CUSTOM-MADE JEWELRY WITH PERSONALITY AND FLAIR
Elizabeth Greenwich
ELIZABETH GREENWICH FOUNDED ICEBABY JEWELRY AFTER
IMMIGRATING
FROM
ST.
PETERSBURG,
RUSSIA, JUST THREE YEARS AGO. In pursuing her passion for creativity and design, Elizabeth started working in the famous New York City diamond distract. “It’s very much a male-dominated industry,” Elizabeth said. “I was able to break through and find my passion as a luxury jewelry designer. At that moment I decided to create a brand that reflects my colorful personality and luxurious taste.” Understanding that her brand had great potential in Miami, she moved here a year ago. Her first designs – a collection of bracelets made of top-quality leathers, like python, stingray, and calfskin – were a hit with the local crowd. Additionally, she has worked on custom-designed jewelry, rings, and watches. Currently, she is expanding her designs in precious metals, such as platinum, rose gold, yellow gold, and white gold in 14-karats and higher. To add more vibrant colors, diamonds, sapphires, and a variety of semi-precious stones are also being incorporated into the designs. “My goal is to expand the ICEBABY Jewelry Lab and to continue to appeal to our clients’ interests, personal style, and passion,” she said. “The ICEBABY team is passionate about bringing creative and innovate designs to the market, as well as continuing to challenge ourselves with each collection.” For more information, visit IceBabyJewelry.com, or call 305.922.7798. THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR HE GETS ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO SHINE, ESPECIALLY FOR ONE OF HIS LONGTIME CLIENTS. “I have a client I’ve worked with for many years,” Victor said. “I did the interior design for her home and I do all her holiday décor, and she does the most elaborate décor for Christmas. Every year for 12 years, it takes a month to prepare and it’s about a $250,000 installation.” While an installation that elaborate may not be typical, he added that it does speak to the trust his clients place in him and his work. For Victor, combining his passion for collecting art with a love of interior design makes his work personally fulfilling. After all, it's about so much more than just placing fine art pieces and antiques around the client’s home. It's about doing so in a way that reflects their aesthetic taste and unique style.

GIVING AWAY AFTER A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN LAST YEAR, LIFESTYLE PUBLICATIONS IS GIVING $300,000 TO RECIPIENTS IN NEED THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON AND BEYOND... AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
ABOUT SIX YEARS AGO ANNA SAROL, THE DAUGHTER OF A SINGLE MOTHER, WAS PARALYZED IN A GYMNASTICS ACCIDENT WHEN SHE WAS A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL, BUT UNTIL LAST YEAR SHE DID NOT HAVE A STAIRLIFT IN HER HOME. The stairlift was made possible when Lifestyle Publications gave her family $10,000. “I watched my community come together to help me get this equipment to my house, and words can’t explain how appreciative my

family and I are,” Anna says. The money for Anna’s stairlift was part of a giveaway campaign from the company during the 2020 Christmas season that benefited more than 80 recipients across the country with a final distribution of $250,000 throughout the year. When the company opened nominations, they were flooded with submissions. Community leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you nominated people that were in need of assistance. As the eyes and ears of the community, these readers were able to help identify people who might have

otherwise gone unnoticed or unrecognized. One such nominee was Kathy*, an aunt who is raising her three young relatives. The children came from an abusive situation, and Kathy, a single guardian, works tirelessly to provide for them. Nevertheless, the family was already living in poverty despite her working seven days a week when Kathy lost her job during the pandemic. She resorted to selling tamales to help pay the rent. When a case manager with a Big Brothers Big Sisters foster youth mentoring program heard about Lifestyle’s campaign and call for nominations, she quickly thought of Kathy. “When I shared the news that Kathy was selected and would be receiving $3,000, she cried, screamed, and was in disbelief,” the case manager said. “She immediately wanted to give back to me and the donor by providing endless tamales. This funding allowed the children to have a small Christmas tree for the first time ever. Kathy was able to pay her rent and utilities for three months, and the children were able to experience a holiday season in peace without financial stressors.” In yet another case, Emily* who worked as a janitor at a school, was a recipient and was struggling to afford simply buying groceries for her children. Before the ongoing difficulties of the pandemic even started, a tornado destroyed the school she worked at just a couple weeks before the initial shutdown in March 2020 which resulted in a loss of income for her. Emily was incredibly surprised and grateful to receive assistance from the giveaway. *Names changed for privacy
