The secret project Tim Tebow has been holding close to his heart.

Welcome to our Investing Issue.
We’re not handing out stock tips or market predictions. We’re looking at the investments that actually shape how you live in Austin — the ones you feel every morning when you walk into your kitchen, sit down with your family, or think about what you want your legacy to be.

On the cover this month is Tim Tebow. In an exclusive Q&A, the Heisman winner, Super Bowl champion, and bestselling author talks about redefining his own MVP — not Most Valuable Player, but Most Vulnerable People. He opens up about the middle-school curl contest that taught him to push past comfort, the moment fatherhood rewired his entire view of the world, and why he now pours his energy into kids the world often overlooks. It’s a powerful reminder that the best investments aren’t always measured in dollars. Sometimes they’re measured in purpose.
Closer to home, Mark Richardson shows us how Austin families are investing in the places they actually live. His designs focus on calm, grounded spaces that support real life — kitchens built for gathering, outdoor rooms that pull everyone outside, bathrooms that feel like private spas. These aren’t trendy flips. They’re homes meant to be enjoyed for generations.
David Wilkes of David Wilkes Builders breaks down the numbers side of that same decision. According to the latest Journal of Light Construction report, smart kitchen and bathroom updates still deliver some of the strongest returns in luxury remodeling — especially when you focus on cabinetry, countertops, backsplashes, lighting, and appliances that match how you actually live.
And for the bigger financial picture, Waterloo Capital treats wealth the way the best architects treat a house: as something that should work together across generations instead of in separate rooms. Their integrated platform brings investments, estate planning, taxes, and family office services under one roof so everything supports everything else.
We hope these stories give you fresh ways to think about where your time, money, and energy go next. Whether it’s a backsplash that changes how you cook dinner or a plan that finally feels aligned with the life you want to build, the right investment always shows up in how you actually live.
See you next month for our Women’s Issue.

When investing in your home, the spaces that provide the largest return on investment (ROI) are kitchens and bathrooms. According to the 2025 report on the Journal of Light Construction (JLC), the kitchen remodel ROI ranges from about 50 to 113 percent. Some may remodel to get the best price when selling and others may simply want a more updated space. The JLC reports the national midrange major kitchen remodel costs around $82,793 with a 51
percent ROI. A minor kitchen remodel can cost $28,458 with an ROI of 113 percent. In the luxury market where design is very personal and appliances are top-of-the-line, the average cost is $164,104.
David Wilkes, founder of David Wilkes Builders, Austin’s premier luxury home builder and remodeler, says the most common updates in a kitchen remodel are cabinetry, countertops, tile/ backsplashes, appliances, lighting and hardware.
ARTICLE BY LAURA CRADDICK

David’s Tips: Talk with your builder to determine the best plan for your budget . Things to consider:

1. Cabinetry. Options include painting existing cabinetry, updating existing cabinets with new doors and drawers or hardware, or building out custom cabinetry.
2. Countertops. Clients can choose from luxury, natural stones like marble and quartzite or engineered surfaces like quartz. Other trending materials to consider are butcher block, concrete, stainless steel, or recycled surfaces.
3. Backsplashes. Kitchen backsplashes can be the same countertop surface applied as a backsplash, providing a seamless look, or the alternative is a tile backsplash.
4. Appliances. This tends to be one of the largest line items in a remodel, but there is a range of costs and quality for each appliance.
5. Lighting. This makes a statement and should compliment your design style.

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.
A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.
Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?
A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.
Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?
A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.
Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?
A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.
“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”
Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?
A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”
Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.
This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

Most Americans biggest lifetime investment is their home. Not only is it a financial investment, but it’s also where people spend the majority of their time. We sat down with Austin’s leading architect, Mark Richardson of Mark Richardson Architects, formerly known as Shiflet Group Architects, to learn how Austinites are transforming their spaces.
1. WHAT ARE AUSTIN HOMEOWNERS LOOKING FOR WHEN DESIGNING CUSTOM SPACES?
Most of our clients in Austin are chasing a sense of ease. They want homes that feel grounded and restorative, but still built for real life—spaces that bring people together and support the way they live day to day. That might mean a dialed-in home office, a kitchen with thoughtful storage and great tools for cooking, a bar that becomes a late-night hang spot, a bathroom that feels like a spa (including saunas and cold plunges), or outdoor living spaces that pull life outside and make room for time with friends and family. They also want spaces for the things they’re passionate about—whether that’s a showroom-style garage for a pristine collection, a music room or studio, or a cozy library for the serious bookworms.

2. WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST TRENDS YOU ARE SEEING IN AUSTIN ARCHITECTURE?
We don’t generally go after trends. Our goal is to design homes that feel personal and lasting—spaces that actually reflect the people who live in them and the way they want to feel at home. That said, a lot of what’s resonating in Austin right now leans toward calm, natural palettes—warm woods, soft plasters, and materials that feel honest and lived-in—layered with moments of personality through color, texture, and pattern so the house still has some edge and soul.
3. WHAT ARE YOUR TOP CONSIDERATIONS WHEN DESIGNING A HOME OR A REMODEL?
It really starts with two things: the client and the context. We don’t come in with a fixed aesthetic agenda—we listen to how people live, what they care about, and what they want their home to feel like, then shape the design around that. Just as important is the site itself, whether that’s a tight neighborhood lot in Austin or a wide-open ranch out west. Beyond the practical stuff—setbacks, zoning, trees, solar orientation, views—the goal is to make a home that genuinely feels like it belongs where it sits. Remodels follow the same mindset, we’re just working within a more defined set of constraints, using the existing structure as part of the design conversation rather than something to fight against.

A fiduciary, technology-enabled platform guiding high-net- worth families and institutions through integrated planning, disciplined stewardship, and compassionate partnership.
In Austin, a simple truth still shapes the best wealth conversations. Wealth today demands more than isolated decisions. It requires coordination, discipline, and a perspective that spans generations and markets. Waterloo Capital was founded to meet that challenge with intention.
Based in Austin and firmly rooted nationwide, the firm serves high-networth families, institutions, and financial professionals who seek clarity in an environment often defined by fragmentation. Their premise is straightforward: clients deserve an advisor who begins with their goals—not a product menu.
Waterloo Capital does not treat wealth management as a collection of disconnected services. Instead, they offer a fully integrated platform that unites public and private markets, estate planning strategy, tax awareness, risk management, and family office services. Each element is designed to reinforce the others, giving clients a complete view of their financial lives and the confidence to make informed decisions.
Integrity underpins every decision at Waterloo Capital. Their fiduciary standard means transparency, accountability, and a long-term view of stewardship guide their actions. Trust isn’t earned by smooth talk; it’s earned through consistent behavior,
ethical rigor, and the discipline to do the right thing, even when it’s hard.
What sets Waterloo Capital apart is not just what they offer, but how they offer it. Their platform rests on proprietary technology and institutional-caliber investment access. Advanced analytics, robust reporting, and portfolio design tools enable them to evaluate opportunities across global managers and strategies while staying true to fiduciary responsibility. The result is a disciplined, adaptable approach that evolves with client needs.
Behind the platform is a culture of collaboration and compassion. Wealth is deeply personal, and every client, advisor, and team member brings distinct priorities and challenges. They build solutions through empathy, open dialogue, and a team-based structure where specialists contribute insights, challenge assumptions, and co-create strategies aligned with long-term objectives. Accountability isn’t a slogan; it’s a practice. When challenges arise, they roll up their sleeves, take ownership of outcomes, and move decisively to deliver timely, thoughtful solutions.
With offices from Austin to Dallas and beyond, Waterloo Capital stays closely connected to entrepreneurs, multigenerational families, and financial professionals

FOUR SIMPLE WAYS TO INVEST IN YOUR MORNING AND START YOUR DAY OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

One of the best ways to invest in yourself is by creating a consistent and intentional morning routine. No matter how unpredictable or chaotic the rest of your day may become, starting your morning with self-care and purpose sets a positive tone that stays with you throughout the day. Once you develop a morning routine that truly resonates with you, you’ll look forward to it every night, knowing it will set the foundation for a productive and fulfilling day.
If you’re ready to elevate your mornings, here are some meaningful ways to invest in your routine and start each day on the right foot.

One of life’s simplest pleasures is savoring a homemade coffee each morning. While skipping the drivethru may be tough at first, brewing your own allows you to appreciate the process—and chances are, you’ll end up preferring your own perfect cup of joe.

An hour-long gym session before work may not be realistic, but a quick morning walk is. Use this time to clear your mind, enjoy nature, and listen to your favorite podcast or artist—an easy way to start your day feeling relaxed.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet often the most overlooked. Setting your alarm just minutes earlier to prepare a fresh, nutritious meal can transform your morning, fueling your body and mind for a more energized and productive day.
Starting your day with a book is far more calming than scrolling through social media. Reading in the morning helps ease you into the day, providing a peaceful and mindful escape that sets a positive, focused tone for what’s ahead.

The Income Tax Cocktail likely popped up during the Prohibition party scene of the 1920s. Its exact origin story remains a bit blurry, but it was definitely a hit in speakeasies.
The name? Well, it's like a cheeky nod to the idea that sipping on this cocktail might be more fun than paying actual taxes! Made with gin, sweet vermouth, orange juice, and a dash of bitters, it's like a boozy adventure for your taste buds, with hints of citrus and herbs. Despite its vintage roots, the Income Tax Cocktail still brings the party vibes, transporting you back to the roaring '20s.
