WE ARE ALWAYS HIRING

April, The Time We Think About Finances!

Dear Readers,

Tax season is around the corner, and many of us share the frustration of paying our dues. However, I often think back to advice a wise man told me many years ago. He told me, "You want to pay $100,000 in taxes!" When I asked why?, he replied, "Because it means you are doing well and making a lot of money." That man was my father! Those words ring in my ears every April. While I have never reached that tax bracket, it is a perspective worth considering.

Compared to many other countries that face higher tax rates and fewer freedoms, we are fortunate for the opportunities available to us in the United States. As the saying goes, "death and taxes" are the only two constants we cannot avoid. I hope all my friends, family, and the readers of Asbury Park City Lifestyle Magazine have a great April and find some helpful tax breaks this year. We all can use a break!

On a lighter note, April in Asbury Park brings the welcome feeling of spring. The February freeze and March winds are behind us, and you can feel the change in the air while walking along the boardwalk or strolling the shops along Cookman Avenue. As the trees bloom and flowers begin to surface, we know it won't be long before we are back in our beach chairs enjoying the sand and surf.

As these days get warmer, it feels good to find time to walk and reflect on the days past and plan strategies for the future and enjoy this wonderful town. Time is flying by and every minute is precious so think good thoughts and be kind to yourself and to everyone you meet.

Best regards,

@ASBURYPARKCITYLIFESTYLE

about making the right investment

Bonding over a bond desk doesn’t sound romantic but it worked for Dorothea Zando and Brian Laux who met on Wall Street during the ‘80s.

“We were part of a very social group of people at work,” Zando recalled from her Atlantic Highlands office. “Some of us in the group ended up getting married.”

Zando and Laux tied the knot 30-years ago. They no longer live in New York or work on Wall Street. The couple with two children in their twenties, moved to New Jersey and are senior wealth consultants, who toil under the moniker Zando Financial.

“There’s a barrage of information out there,” Zando said. “It’s confusing. We can make it easier for people during these challenging times. We can tell them this is why things are happening this way and we can advise them.

The couple behind Zando financial will lead you on the right path when it comes to wealth management

If your relationship with money is important to you, wouldn’t it make sense to speak with someone who has been in this business for more than 40 years? We’re more like therapists than advisors.”

Zando has a terrific track record and as a result their client base ranges from 20-somethings to octogenarians.

“Our clients are all over the board at different stages of their lives,” Zando said. “We tailor

what we do to every client. With people that are nearly retired and rolling over 401Ks, they need extra income so we talk about what they can do with their social security and how it can work for them. With someone in their ‘20s, we go into the market. We’ll be more aggressive investment with them. The message we have with people in their ‘20s is, ‘Don’t wait.’ If you start investing early enough, you’ll be able to compound that amount. It’ll make a big difference for your retirement years. The difference could be over $1 million.”

Zando and Laux are open to speak at any hour about investing. “We have a 24-hour policy,” Laux said. “You can call us after market hours or during the weekends. We’ll do reviews at night or whenever. We want to help people at every stage of their life through retirement and beyond.”

Ironically, Zando and Laux aren’t planning to retire, at least for a while. “We love what we do,” Zando said.

“Why not continue to run our own business? If we need to take a Tuesday off, we’ll take a Tuesday off. We might bring in someone like our son, who can hopefully come in and take over everything when we’re in our ‘90s.”

Now there’s a plan but that’s what Zando and Laux are all about, helping folks with pragmatic moves.

The longtime couple plans to stay in Monmouth County. “We love Monmouth

County,” Zando said. “Why would we leave? Both of our kids went to Monmouth University.  We love the beach, the bars and restaurants.  We’re happy to live in New Jersey, particularly where we live. We can walk to the ferry to go to Manhattan. From our beach we can see the New York skyline. This is a great place to raise kids.”

Both of their children reside in New Jersey. Their son Raymond Laux often performs in Asbury Park with his band Malibu. “We just saw Raymond and Malibu at Low Dive,” Zando said. “The band is Raymond and his two college friends and they’re great. . It’s so good to be able to see them in Asbury Park We have a great time there.”

Zando and Laux have seen it all in the financial world. “We were working in this business when the market crashed in ‘87 and 01, 02 and 08,” Zando said. “We navigated through that and we’re still going strong. If anyone needs any financial advice we can help them.”

The couple also runs the Victor Zando Foundation. “It was established in 2003 in memory of my brother, Victor, who passed away,” Zando said. “He left behind a 15-month old.”

So the foundation helps children with Catholic School tuition. Students at Asbury Park’s Mt. Caramel have benefitted courtesy of the Foundation’s uniform fund and tuition assistance.

“We want to help in a meaningful and impactful way with the foundation and with financial services,” Laux said.

REAL ESTATE is the BEST INVESTMENT

Wall Township realtor Meghan Carroll can help you purchase your next home

“You will all be confronted with opportunity. You must take advantage of it. Because if you don’t take advantage of your opportunity, you’ll never realize your dreams.”-English restauranteur and television personality Marco Pierre White.

Meghan Carroll can relate to White’s take since the Wall Township realtor was at a career crossroads a decade ago. Carroll’s therapist encouraged the Clemson University alum to move in another direction.

“My therapist pushed me to go into real estate,” Carroll said. ‘Why don’t you try real estate?”

Opportunity knocked and Carroll embraced a new role with Re/Max. “I’ve been doing this for ten years and it’s the longest I’ve ever been at a job and I absolutely love it,” Carroll said.

Sometimes it’s not easy to see how a particular skill set can help jumpstart a new career. But Carroll’s therapist connected the dots noting that her customer service and web design experience would come in handy in the world of real estate.

It also helps that Carroll knows Monmouth County well so she has a deep understanding of the local market. Carroll emphasizes location so buyers and renters discover their ideal shore home. Carroll knows it’s not just about the beach but it’s also about shops, restaurants and clubs.

The Baltimore native spent half of her time in Monmouth County and the other half in South Carolina. That explains her mellifluous Southern accent and charm. Her father was a horse

trainer who spent considerable time at Monmouth Park. “My father worked with thoroughbreds,” Carroll said. “I would go to the public schools here and private schools in South Carolina. My mom would stay down South. And then we would spent the summers in New Jersey and we bounced around but primarily in Eatontown. I always loved it here.”

After graduating with an education degree, Carroll decided not to teach. “The starting salary for a teacher was $20,000 a year in 2001,” Carroll said. “I was turned off by the administration part.”

Carroll, 46, pursued other options for 13 years in Asheville, North Carolina. Carroll ended up back in the Garden State. “I love it here,” Carroll said. “There’s no place like it. There’s so much to do here.”

Carroll enjoys the vibrant Asbury Park scene. “It’s a unique and special place,” Carroll said. “I love living in this area. There is just so much to experience.”

Carroll is a fan of Kim Marie’s Eat and Drink Away on Kingsley Street. The establishment is a cozy Irish pub with terrific pub fare. Another favorite is R Bar on Main street, which is a New Orleans style establishment that serves up Cajun style dishes such as crawfish pasta and gumbo.

“There are so many great restaurants in Asbury Park,” Carroll said. “It’s such an amazing place for dining out.”

Carroll enjoys shopping in town as well. Carla Gizzi at the Beach, which is housed in Convention Hall, is often frequented by Carroll.  Rebel Supply is a favorite. The same goes for the charming Foolish Ginger on Cookman Avenue. The former features vintage-inspired jewelry and clothing.

The latter offers an artsy boutique with a fun and eclectic mix of merchandise from clothing and accessories to housewares.

The altruistic Carroll devotes considerable time with her rescue dogs. She stays in shape courtesy of Peloton workouts and works on her cardiovascular health via running and walking in Asbury Park.

But Carroll’s primary focus is finding perfect property for her clients. “I love what I do,” Carroll said. “It took a few years but I found my calling and I want to help find the right home for my clients.”

Much has changed in the world of Asbury Park real estate. A quarter century ago properties could be purchased for a song. However, much has changed. Asbury Park was named the Best Small Beach Town in the US by Travel + Leisure in 2025 courtesy of the inviting mile-long sandy beach, iconic musical history and vibrant, artistic community. Budget Travel Magazine dubbed Asbury Park one of the coolest small towns in America. So no wonder so many folks want to move in. The first thing someone interested in the area should do while considering property is to look to an experienced realtor.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Healthy options in Asbury Park

THERE'S PLENTY OF HEALTHY CHOICES FOR VEGANS IN TOWN

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANGELICA

What separates Asbury Park from much of the Jersey shore is that it’s a late night town. One of the benefits is having plenty of late night options that are delicious and varied. There are plenty of choices for vegans and those who are gluten free in Asbury Park.

MOGO KOREAN FUSION TACOS

Mogo’s absolutely melt in your mouth bowls are my favorite go-to late night bite. For a vegan or gluten-free foodie, the provisions at the boardwalk and Cookman Avenue locations are addicting. According to an anonymous Mogo employee, the only item actually gluten-free is the grilled cod over white rice and pickled onion slaw and mayo. Disclaimer: the marinade includes soy sauce which is not gluten-free, but to each their own on how strict you are. Mogo is open until 3AM on Friday and Saturdays, their kimchi rice bowls with meats, fish or tofu offer a much needed alternative.

PALMETTO SOUTHERN KITCHEN + BAR

Located on the boardwalk and Ocean Ave, this charming rose and viridescent decorated Charleston-inspired restaurant and bar is open until 2 AM for drinks on Fridays and Saturdays and 1 AM for food. Their seafood raw bar, delicious smoky rubbed wings and hot honey brussel sprouts with puffed rice will satisfy gluten free customer’s appetites. The gluten-free crab cake is literally just straight crab meat. They even offer gluten-free buns.

CRUST AND CRUMBLE

With family roots in the Jersey Shore food business, Crust and Crumble is my go-to for vegan and gluten free pizza with separate menus for both options. Located at the Shoppes at The Arcade on Lake Ave, this funky restaurant offers vegan options like vegan mozzarella,

ricotta, beyond burgers and crispy chick’n. They also take gluten free very seriously with separate pans, cutters, and preparation areas with gluten free pasta dishes.

CROSS & ORANGE

On the corner of Cookman Ave, Cross & Orange is open from Wednesday to Sunday and welcomes diners into an upscale exposed brick bar and restaurant that has so many healthy choices from prosciutto wrapped asparagus and vegan tenders with vegan ranch for starters and crunchy fried tofu tacos. Open until 11 PM, they also have a killer corn vegan mayo Beyond burger with a gluten free bun.

IRON WHALE

Located on the boardwalk with sweeping ocean views, this rustic late date night scene is open until 11 PM. Iron Whale is a superb spot for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options like a vegan mozzarella and fresh basil gluten free pizza, a baby spinach and black bean burger, and creamy tofu street corn tacos.

PASTA VOLO

PM, Pasta Volo has plenty of vegan vodka or pesto sauces and variety of house-made gluten free pasta, including a fettuccine rice blend pasta.

TALULA’S

“There are plenty of choices for vegans and those who are gluten free in Asbury Park.”

Open until 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, Talula’s on Cookman Ave pickles, preserves, bakes, and ferments everything in house. They even make their own vegan cheeses. Talula’s only uses 100% organic and stone ground flour and their pizza and bread are naturally leavened with a sourdough starter. They also have a thick gluten free sour dough square personal pizza! For appetizers, they offer a  vegan caesar salad with cashew parm flakes and a unique take on the classic, a vegan crab cake made from a plant-based hearts of palm and chickpea recipe.

PORTA

There are vegan and gluten free take-out and delivery options is located on Bond Street. On the weekend, open Friday and Saturday until 10

Delicious food is served until 10 PM Fridays and 11 PM Saturdays at Porta located in the former home of the once-famous Student Prince, where Springsteen first met Clarence Clemons. With their iconic “eat, drink, be honest” doors, everyone knows Porta for their pizza or their dance floor, but did you know they have vegan and veggie pizza options? Sadly, they don’t have gluten-free pizza, but they do have a lot of options for the vegans.

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

ALTERNATIVE Spring CLEANING

Your house isn't all that needs spring cleaning.

What if cleansing felt nourishing? What if you could eat as much as you’re heart desires? You may have tried cleanses in the past that left you feeling starved, depleted, exhausted and afraid to venture far from the bathroom. Ayurveda does it differently.

Our bodies have an amazing capacity to heal. Often, we just need to get out of the way. Once we do, the body’s innate intelligence kicks into high gear and detoxification happens naturally. Ayurveda’s approach to cleansing supports this by creating space. We simplify the diet, reduce stimulation and adopt a supportive daily routine so digestion can do its job more efficiently.

So how do we get toxins in the first place? In Ayurveda, the buildup results from overloaded digestion. When the body doesn’t have adequate space to digest what it takes in - food, emotions, information or experiences - a toxic residue of undigested material called ama builds. At first, ama may show up as symptoms like heaviness, sluggish digestion, bloating, fatigue, brain fog, inflammation or recurring minor complaints. Left unaddressed, ama can set the stage for disease over time as it interferes with circulation, tissue health, immunity, and the body’s natural self-repair processes. Cleansing helps reduce ama by simplifying inputs and restoring the digestive system’s capacity to process not just food, but life itself.

During fall and winter, we crave heavier, richer foods to help build an insulating layer of fat that keeps us warm. Just as other animals hibernate, we tend to sleep more during the darker months. This supports repair and rejuvenation, but the extra time

indoors and reduced movement can also encourage the accumulation of ama and body mass. Because toxins tend to lodge in fat tissue, winter gives us ample storage capacity.

In spring, the climate shifts from cold to warm and the light shifts from longer nights to longer days. These changes ignite shifts in our bodies as well. Just as snow on the mountains begins to melt and flood rivers, the insulating layer of fat in our bodies also starts to break down. This process releases accumulated toxins into the bloodstream, increasing the demand on the liver. Because the liver plays a central role in both fat metabolism and detoxification, it often works overtime in spring. When the liver is taxed, symptoms like allergies, congestion, skin issues, inflammation, and mood changes can arise.

A spring cleanse helps rekindle digestion, boost motivation, clear toxins and align your body’s rhythm with nature’s cycles so you spring back to life along with everything else that’s blooming. Because the body is already in a cleansing state, an intentional spring cleanse allows us to harness momentum that’s already there. Spring cleansing also supports the liver by making its job easier. It can improve our sleep and wake cycles and enable us to recommit to a healthy routine which supports our nervous system and overall well-being.

Cleansing in spring and fall is considered preventative medicine in Ayurveda. These seasonal transitions are times when the body is more vulnerable, but also more responsive. By resetting digestion and routine before imbalance takes hold, we reduce the likelihood of illness later on.

“A spring cleanse helps rekindle digestion, boost motivation, clear toxins and align your body's rhythm. ”
Kimberly Kubicke chilling during sunset

Cleansing allows you to explore your relationship to eating as well as mind-altering and inflammatory substances like sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. It gives you space from habits or patterns that might have more control over you than you’d like, allowing you to shift your relationship to them.

Much like seasonal maintenance for your home or car, a cleanse keeps small issues from becoming bigger ones. It gives digestion a reset, habits a refresh, and the nervous system a chance to recalibrate before life speeds up again.

A spring cleanse can support better digestion and more consistent energy. It can also improve mood and mental clarity. It can reduce inflammation, enhance sleep and daily rhythm.

In a culture that glorifies pushing limits, it’s easy to assume that more extreme approaches deliver better results. Ayurveda disagrees.

Aggressive cleanses often stress the nervous system, weaken digestion, and lead to rebound symptoms once normal eating resumes. Instead of creating lasting change, they can leave the body more depleted.

A gentle cleanse works because it supports the body’s existing detox pathways rather than overwhelming them. By reducing digestive load and simplifying routine, the body can do what it already knows how to do efficiently and sustainably. Ayurveda’s approach offers a thorough yet nourishing process to restore your digestive power, remove physical waste and rejuvenate at the deepest levels so you’re energized for the year ahead.

Ayurveda approaches cleansing as a three-phase process: preparation, cleansing, and reintegration. The preparation phase gently reduces foods and habits that burden digestion while introducing supportive routines. The cleansing phase focuses on simple, nourishing meals that give digestion a break without deprivation. The reintegration phase gradually brings variety back in while supporting long-term balance and rejuvenation.

“Ayurveda’s approach offers a thorough yet nourishing process to restore your digestive power, remove physical waste and rejuvenate at the deepest levels so you’re energized for the year ahead.”

For those who want structure and guidance, I’m offering a gentle 10-day spring cleanse rooted in Ayurvedic principles. It’s designed to support digestion, daily rhythm, and nervous system balance without deprivation. We begin April 17. You can learn more at indraholistic.com/cleanse. If you’re anything like me, you might have a tendency to push your limits. There has definitely been a time or two where I’ve waited until I was too sick to slow down and take care of myself.  But as I’ve gotten older and wiser, I’ve realized why wait before I take care of myself? It makes more sense and is less stressful to plan to take a seasonal time-out and harness the power of natural cycles to slow down, reset habits, improve digestion and rejuvenate.

The Perfect Spring Getaway

The Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale offers a much needed spring break experience

Fort Lauderdale was synonymous with spring break revelry from the ‘60s through the ‘80s.

The South Florida resort Mecca has made a comeback.

According to a Spirit Airlines report, Fort Lauderdale is the most searched beach destination for the 2026 spring break season, outpacing rivals, such as Miami and Cancun.

The difference between the Fort Lauderdale of yesteryear and now is luxury. It’s about opulence on the Fort Lauderdale beachfront.  The Four Seaons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, ( https://www. fourseasons.com/fortlauderdale/), which is a destination within a destination, offers that upscale experience.

The Four Season’s “Spring Break “Glow Up” is a different take on the party centric spring break energy often associated with South Florida for wellness, dining, boating and beachside leisure.

The Four Seasons is an ideal weekend escape since it checks many boxes, including a beautiful beachfront, poolside indulgence, fine dining and a springtime refresh at the spa. Hang out at the Four Seasons’ pristine beach and enjoy uncommon delicacies on the sand, such as Evelyn’s Chicken Shawarma, a fantastic sandwich comprised of tahini, pickled sumac, onion, garlic toum, Levantine pickle and cilantro. Start with the nachos, which are covered with cheddar cheese fondue, sour cream, tomatillo salsa, pickled Fresno pepper, black bean, tomato and cilantro,

A frozen margarita is the go to libation. For those who would like to continue with a drink as a prelude to dinner, stop at ViceVersa, which offers a fine selection of signature cocktails, such as the refreshing fragola, which is made up of vodka, strawberry, yogurt, cocchi rosa and peach.

There are two must-visit restaurants at the Four Seasons: Evelyn’s and MAASS.

The former is a terrific Mediterranean experience led by acclaimed chef Brandon Salomon, showcasing the region’s rich, diverse traditions and fresh coastal ingredients.

Speaking of the latter, start with a half-dozen Everglade oysters, which melt in your mouth.

The truffle hummus is on another level among chickpea dips made with tahini, garlic and lemon juice. The dish is elevated thanks to summer truffles and garden mushrooms. Load up on stone-fired pita.

Drinks on the Four Seasons' Fort Lauderdale Beach

The tender Australian Waygu beef, with date barbecue, red chili schug, is the perfect next step. The capper is the delicious grilled whole branzino with coriander seed chermoula, cilantro, rose petal and Swank Farm green salad. It’s not surprising that Evelyn’s is one of the first Michelin-recommended restaurants in Fort Lauderdale.

MAASS is another exceptional Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale restaurant, named in honor of the late local architect Gustav Maass, who gained recognition for his Mediterranean Revival home designs in the early 20th century.

Start with the Foie Gras “Nutter Butter,” which reimagines a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with creamy foie gras mousse.  The lobster tortellini and Kaluga caviar are can’t miss appetizers.

The Hokkaido Scallop with artichoke, sunchoke, leeks and dashi is tremendous. Lamb lovers must go the extra mile and order the hearth roasted Colorado lamb rack, which is sublime.

It’s not easy saving space for dessert at MAASS but if there’s room, indulge in the chocolate cheesecake.

A great way to relax is to escape by booking a spa recovery treatment, which features a relaxing massage. The experience allows full-day access to the spa amenities, which includes the Himalayan salt suite and the aroma steam room.

After relaxing why not try the MOKE experience? The Four Seasons offers guests the opportunity to zip down Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard in its custom yellow electric MOKE.

It’s a blast cruising through the storied strip and the coastal waterways.

The Four Seasons Fort Lauderdale is a destination in itself, offering so much to experience.
