You've Got the Love!
February feels like the right time to write a love letter to Arvada. Some of my earliest memories of feeling truly connected here started with daily walks through Memorial Park (as seen in the photo) with our dog Azra. What began as quiet time outdoors quickly turned into familiar smiles, friendly conversations, and genuine relationships with neighbors who felt more like friends. A true embodiment of Arvada, our parks, and our residents.

While I was at Memorial Park taking photos for this issue, I was reminded of the neighborly waves and the friendly hellos. I was stopped by a local resident, Judy, and her dog, and we ended up having the best conversation about Arvada. We shared stories about the years we’ve spent walking around the park and how it truly feels like a staple in Arvada. Judy, if you are reading this, it was a pleasure meeting you and you reminded me what it means to be a kind neighbor sharing local love.
Over the past few years with Arvada Lifestyle, my role has evolved in ways I never could have imagined. I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people, sitting down with local business owners, creatives, and community leaders, and hearing stories rooted in perseverance, hope, and success. Those stories and people are the heartbeat of this city.
Local Love is about cherishing what’s near you in every sense. It’s showing up for the small businesses that take risks, the members of our community who share their gifts and stories, and for a city that continues to choose connection Local love can be as simple as leaving a kind review or saying “thank you” to your local shop owner. There are endless ways to show support and express gratitude this month, so keep reading and know I am incredibly grateful for the people, the parks, and the businesses that make Arvada feel like home.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of the life you’re building. Our greatest hope is that this issue helps you share that love just a little more than before.
Here’s to a February filled with love!

LOVE YourPARK
A Stroll Through Memorial Park
Walking through Memorial Park, you’ll hear the flow of Ralston Creek with the unmistakable ring of the chain links ringing as disc golfers around the park sink the perfect shot followed by cheers and high fives. Tucked along the Ralston Creek Trail, Memorial Park is the kind of neighborhood park that people dream of when they think of life in Colorado. Friendly, familiar faces walk their dogs each day, kids play on the playground, and groups of people gather to play a round of disc golf. Memorial Park is proof that shared spaces bring our community together.
The park is situated along Ralston Creek Trail, one of Arvada’s longest trails stretching 12.5 miles. With spectacular views that wind all around Arvada, Memorial Park and Johnny Roberts Disc Golf Course are easy to access and enjoy as one of the many parks and stops along the way. Walking along the trail, it’s common to strike up a conversation with a neighbor or for a dog to stop at a tree to stare down a squirrel.
Local resident Judy Baker and her dog Max have been walking the trail and through Memorial Park for years. Judy has lived in Arvada since 1991 and walks the trails without fail, every single day. One of her favorite things about the park? “Well, Max loves to chase the squirrels, so that’s always fun,” she says, “but I enjoy all
of the wildlife like the ducks and birds. It’s a great place to walk.” As Judy shares her love for the park, her dog Max ran into one of his dog friends along the trail, stopping to say hello, and that moment perfectly captures what is so special about the space.
Whether you’re enjoying brunch in Olde Town or a bike ride along the trail, Memorial Park has a playground, pavilion, and plenty of open space for friends and family to gather and enjoy. Reserve the pavilion for an outdoor gathering, celebration, or family reunion equipped with charcoal grills and picnic tables. Memorial Park is the perfect stop for a picnic or place to relax and enjoy a book under one of the many mature shade trees in the park.
Something for everyone and everyone is welcome! Memorial Park isn’t just home to Johnny Roberts Disc Golf Course; there is also a skate park and basketball court for locals to enjoy. Whether you show up with a group of friends or come alone, someone is likely to ask you to join in on a round of disc golf or a pickup game of basketball.
Local resident Dan S. shares, “There’s a strong sense of community here. You can show up with one disc or not even know how to play, and you’re almost guaranteed to meet someone on the

course who will help.” Welcoming and inclusive, Dan adds, “It’s a great place to make friends- but let’s be sure we take care of it. The park means a lot to a lot of people.”
With so much to offer, it doesn’t matter if it’s 85 and sunny or 32 and chilly, all year round, people come to get outside for fresh air and movement in a space that feels both familiar and safe. While some people think parks are better in the summer, there is something special about Memorial Park covered in a blanket of fresh snow, a kid stopping to make a snowman, or dogs barreling through with their noses covered in snow.
Nestled behind the police station and tucked between neighborhoods, Memorial Park easily connects to Ralston Central Park. Families can stroll from one park to the other to enjoy the swings, playgrounds and the splash pad in the summer with mountain views as the backdrop. The easily accessible trail makes park hopping the perfect weekend activity.
What more can you ask for in a park than a shared space for runners, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts alike in the middle of a city. Whether it's your daily morning route or post work running trail, walking your dog along the creek with the calming effect of the water and the trees is the perfect dose of serotonin for your mental health. Add the laughter of kids playing on the playground and people celebrating rounds of disc golf- just another reminder how great life in Arvada is.
Enjoying local parks means showing a little love and respect for the spaces and each other. Always be sure to pick up any trash, clean up after your pets, and don't leave food or items that can harm the local wildlife. Be mindful of others using the park, kindly use your voice or bell when cycling, and always be sure to say hi to the dogs as they pass. The City of Arvada takes great care of the many parks throughout Arvada, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to do their part, so they can be enjoyed for years to come.
“Memorial Park is the perfect stop for a picnic or place to relax and enjoy a book under one of the many mature shade trees in the park.”
Max visits the park daily with local resident, Judy Baker

This is your sign to get out and visit Memorial Park- throw a round of disc golf or ask a friend to meet for a walk with coffee. Ride your bike along the creek, park hop and explore the trail with your family. Slow down, take a seat by the water or under a tree, and take pride in Arvada’s outdoor spaces. If this inspired you to visit the park, be sure to take some photos and tag us @arvadalifestylemagazine or submit them for a chance to be featured in our City Scene Section- where neighbors can see and be seen!
HOW TO SUPPORT LOCAL THIS FEBRUARY
ARTICLE BY LYNN DAVIS
LOCAL LOVE SHOWING

February is often associated with grand gestures of romantic L-O-V-E, but here in Arvada, love shows up in so many other ways: the small businesses we support, the friends we cheer for, and the neighbors we look out for. One of the best things about being a part of Arvada is seeing local love in action every day. It's in the collaborations, the encouragement, and the way the community shows up for one another. It is what makes Arvada feel both welcoming and inspiring, making this a place many are proud to call home. Whether you have lived here for years or are just putting down roots, take the time to learn about what your neighbors do and how you can support them.

Local love doesn’t require grand gestures, big time or even financial commitments from you. Local love shows up in choosing to purchase an item at a local store versus a big box store or shopping online. It’s showing up to a community event. It’s choosing to support your friend trying something new, or recommending a business you genuinely believe in. These small acts of support create a ripple effect that strengthens our local economy in even bigger ways. Arvada is full of people who pour their heart and soul into what they do, so let’s show the love and support they deserve. This month, we invite you to be mindful of the choices you make and the impact you have. When we choose to support local, we’re not just supporting businesses– we’re investing in the people, relationships, and Arvada as a whole. With that, we’re here to share intentional ways you can support local, strengthen the local community, and show appreciation for the people that make it a place to be proud to be a part of.

Take a friend somewhere new.

1. SUPPORT LOCAL ON PURPOSE
Whether it's intentionally stopping by a local coffee shop before work once a week or booking a workout class, where you spend your money matters. It’s choosing to stop by your local bakery or neighborhood cottage baker or making reservations at a local restaurant instead of a chain. Choosing to support local businesses keeps Arvada thriving and you may just make a new friend.
2. LEAVE A KIND REVIEW
A positive Google, Facebook, or Yelp review might seem small, but for a local business, it can make a huge impact. The next time you have a good experience with a sales associate, waiter, stylist, advisor, or enjoy an outstanding dining experience: take two minutes to shout out the great service, a product you love, or how inviting or clean the space was. In just one to two minutes, your words can help another local find their next favorite hidden gem and bring in new business for the owner.
3. CHOOSE LOCAL GIFTS
Valentine’s gifts don’t have to come from designer brands or big-box stores. Think local flower shops, chocolates, art, experiences, or gift cards. Check out our City List in this issue for great recommendations or explore the Arvada Neighbors Facebook group where you can find a local artist to create a one-ofa-kind gift for you. You might be surprised by what all Arvada has to offer.
4. SHOW UP
Attend a community event, a pop-up, an art show, a workout class, or a local meet-up. Showing up is one of the simplest ways to support Arvada’s entrepreneurs, small business owners, and creatives alike. Our City does an amazing job of hosting events, markets, and concerts and by showing up, we help ensure these community experiences continue for us all to enjoy. You may learn something new or even find a new hobby.
Stop by your local bakery for a treat.
Swing into February with someone special at Fade It Golf & Social Club
5. SHARE THE LOVE ONLINE
We are all online these days, and social media has become an important tool for small businesses. Think of this as the 2026 version of word-of-mouth and how we share our favorite experiences and people with our friends. Be sure to tag your favorite local businesses in your stories, share a photo from a place you love, or give a shout-out about a great experience you had. Highlight your favorite local influencers’ pages or follow local business accounts, and interact with their posts. When used genuinely and intentionally, social media helps small businesses reach new customers and grow.
6. BRING A FRIEND SOMEWHERE NEW
Introduce someone to a local business they haven’t tried yet. Invite a friend to a new coffee spot, workout class, or a restaurant you’ve never been to. Trying new things and visiting new places not only expands our world, but also introduces those we love to new people, places, and experiences as well. Sharing your favorite places is the easiest way to show some love and turn a local business into a new fan favorite.
7. SAY THANK YOU
These days more than ever, a kind word can go a long way. You never know what kind of day someone may be having, so even if you see the same barista or shop owner every day, take a moment to thank them. Tell them what a wonderful job they do or the great service they provide and let them know they are appreciated. These are the people who make the world go round, and it costs nothing to be kind. What may seem like a small gesture to you can be the moment someone remembers from their day and puts a smile on their face.
8. LOVE LOCAL- ALL YEAR LONG
Local love isn’t just for the month of February; it is an ongoing commitment to support the people and places that make Arvada thrive. When we choose local, we invest in our community and each other saying "we believe in you!"
This February, let's share the love all month long, right here at home!

The Gift of Letter Writing
There is a lost art in letter writing that I wish to hold onto. In this speedy world where anything can be done lickity-click, a handwritten letter takes time and shows thoughtfulness. Much like a fingerprint, a person's handwriting- as elegant or clumsy as it may be- is as much a piece of them as the color of their eyes or the sound of their voice. The handwriting of a loved one that has passed or the writing of a child that time has aged will forever be treasured because of who they are, not how beautiful the calligraphy.

I invite you to join me in handwriting a letter to someone you care for this month. It could be as short as a sentence, as practical as a favorite recipe, or as lighthearted as a joke. Whatever is written, write it in your own handwriting as a gift to be treasured by the person you give it to.
WAX SEALS
Since a handwritten letter is a gift then the envelope should be treated like wrapping one. Sealing a letter with a wax stamp is a beautiful way to turn a standard paper letter into the gift that it is.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
1. Wax Sealing Stick
2 . Sealing Stamp
3. Match or Lighter
HOW TO APPLY A WAX SEAL
1. Light the wick and hold the stick parallel to the work surface.
2. Let wax slowly drip into a coin sized circle onto the paper. It’s tempting to angle the stick down to increase the speed of drips but avoid this as pieces of soot will fall into the wax and discolor it.
3. Blow out the flame and set the stick aside.
4. Press the sealing stamp onto the melted wax. Hold for a few seconds before lifting away. If it sticks, gently rock the seal back and forth to release.
*Wax seals are able to be sent through the mail but you may consider an additional outer envelope to protect it from potential damage.

VALENTINE’S DAY CHEESECAKE
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY CASSIE SUPPES
Valentine’s Day is all about showing your loved one just how much you care. Rather than opting for the predictable chocolates and flowers, why not showcase your culinary prowess and create a one-of-a-kind cheesecake? Not only will this delectable treat demonstrate your affection, but it will also add a personal and luxurious touch to the holiday celebration. Make this Valentine’s Day truly memorable by going above and beyond with a heartfelt, homemade gift. Cheesecake is the perfect dessert for two because it’s both rich and indulgent, but not too heavy. Plus, it can be easily customized to fit your own personal taste and it’s much easier than you think!

TO MAKE THE PERFECT CHEESECAKE, YOU’LL NEED:
• 1 pound cream cheese, softened
• 1 cup sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup sour cream
• 1/2 cup heavy cream
• 1 prepared graham cracker crust
Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Next, add in the sour cream and heavy cream and mix until everything is well combined. Pour the mixture into the prepared graham cracker crust and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the cheesecake is set. Let cool completely before serving. For this recipe, we decided to add berries and honey to the top of our cheesecake. Take the time to make yours special to your relationship. With toppings such as chocolate, jelly, whipped cream, berries, fruit, or whatever your partner’s favorite is, you’re sure to make them smile. Make things colorful by adding food coloring to the mix, it can even be made in their favorite color. You can also change things up by making your own crust with Oreos or cinnamon crackers.
To elevate this recipe to the next level, consider using high-quality ingredients such as grass-fed cream cheese and locally sourced honey. For added luxury, try using a blend of different types of berries, or even substituting the graham cracker crust with a crust made of crushed pistachios or hazelnuts.
In addition to adding a variety of toppings, you can also get creative with the presentation. For example, try using a springform pan to create a heart-shaped cheesecake, or using cookie cutters to create fun shapes out of the cheesecake slices. You can also garnish the cheesecake with edible flowers or a sprinkle of edible gold dust for a truly indulgent experience.

Date Night
AT HOME
THREE CREATIVE IDEAS TO CELEBRATE LOVE
ARTICLE BY BAILEY HALL

Not every date night needs to involve reservations or an elaborate itinerary. With a little creativity, you can create magical moments right at home. Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or just want to reconnect, here are three ideas for unforgettable at-home date nights.

ROMANTIC PICNIC UNDER THE STARS
Transform your backyard or balcony into a dreamy picnic spot! Spread out a cozy blanket, add a few fluffy pillows, and hang string lights or fairy lights for ambiance. A small fire pit or lanterns can also add a romantic glow.
Pack a picnic basket with finger foods and a bottle of wine or sparkling water. Don’t forget a decadent dessert like chocolate-dipped strawberries.
Lay back and stargaze, identifying constellations or making wishes on shooting stars. To make it extra romantic, bring a bluetooth speaker and play soft music.
PAINT AND CREATE TOGETHER
Unleash your inner artists with one of these three fun and interactive dates. Grab some inexpensive canvases, brushes, and acrylic paints from the craft store. Don’t forget aprons or old clothes to protect against spills!
• Paint each other’s portraits for a mix of laughter and creativity.
• Work on a collaborative paintingeach person adds their own touch to a single canvas.
• Try a themed painting challenge, like recreating your favorite memory together. Pair this date with a cheese platter and wine and don’t worry about being “good’ at painting - it’s all about enjoying the process together.
BREAKFAST IN BED
Start the day with love by turning breakfast into an indulgent experience. Prepare a tray with a DIY breakfast charcuterie board. Include mini pancakes, waffles, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, bacon, and pastries. Add small bowls of toppings like syrup, Nutella, or whipped cream.
Mix up mimosas or serve coffee with flavored syrups and whipped cream for a café vibe. Then, snuggle up in bed and watch a favorite movie or TV series.
