Investment. By definition, it’s the act of dedicating time, energy, or resources toward something with the hope of a worthwhile return. But in practice, it’s so much more. Whether it’s our community, relationships, finances, or personal growth, the things we invest in shape our futures and the lives of those around us.

We can invest in our community by supporting local businesses, schools, and organizations. Volunteering and mentoring are powerful ways to contribute to future generations. On a broader scale, participating in public surveys and staying informed about city planning are investments in the places we call home. Financial investments help us build security and achieve long-term goals, while personal investments—spending quality time with loved ones or fostering deeper connections—bring immeasurable rewards to both ourselves and the people we care about.
While the ways we choose to invest may look different for everyone, the common thread is the hope of making a positive impact. This month’s issue explores various ways we can invest in our lives—whether by nurturing our community, planning for our financial future, or prioritizing our health, home, and relationships that matter most.
Every investment we make is an act of hope and commitment. As you read this issue, we hope you’ll feel inspired to invest in the people, places, and dreams that matter most to you.
Here’s to a month full of growth, connection, and meaningful returns.
Happy April!

Seventeen years ago, after completing his dental degree and orthodontic residency at The University of Iowa, Dr. Albert Eng and his wife, Rachel, moved to Colorado with their three young sons. They were looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors and stay active year-round. In Colorado, they found stunning mountain views, abundant sunshine, and a welcoming community that quickly felt like home.
The couple opened their first orthodontic practice in 2009, building it on a foundation of personalized care and strong community relationships. When the opportunity arose last year to bring Eng Orthodontics to Arvada, they knew it was a perfect fit for their family. Long before expanding there, the Eng family was already woven into the fabric of the community — spending time with friends, playing tennis, shopping locally, and enjoying dinners around town. Expanding into Arvada was a meaningful step into a community where they were already living life and building lasting connections.
For Dr. Eng, orthodontics is both a passion and an opportunity to influence his patients’ lives in meaningful ways that extend beyond creating a beautiful smile. Although he once considered becoming a pediatrician, everything changed when he shadowed an orthodontist during college.
“I realized orthodontics combined everything I was looking for,” Dr. Eng says. “I get to work with kids and teenagers during such an important stage of their lives. We see our patients
regularly, sometimes for years, and that gives us the chance to build real relationships. Of course I love creating confident, healthy smiles — but just as meaningful is being a steady, positive presence for them during a time when encouragement and connection matter most.”
It is apparent to all who encounter him that as Dr. Eng works to give patients healthy, beautiful smiles, he also invests in their lives. “Dr. Eng has such a calm and caring presence,” says his wife, Rachel. “He genuinely enjoys getting to know each patient and hearing about their lives, building personal connections over the course of their two- to three-year treatment.” For many, the relationships he builds leave a lasting impact long after their braces come off, turning routine orthodontic visits into a meaningful part of their journey.
One of the greatest intangible benefits of orthodontic care is the boost in confidence patients experience when they are proud to share their smiles. “Many patients come to us seeking a straighter, more attractive smile, but the benefits extend far beyond appearance,” Dr. Eng explains. “Orthodontic treatment not only improves alignment and oral function, it also builds confidence. As patients gain confidence in their smiles, they naturally engage more fully in relationships and daily life. Studies show that people who feel good about their smile tend to smile more often — and those smiles can lead to greater happiness and open doors to both personal and professional opportunities.”

“Orthodontic treatment not only improves alignment and oral function, it also builds confidence.”

The benefits of orthodontics go far beyond aesthetics. “Properly aligned teeth and jaws make oral hygiene easier, reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease, and prevent uneven wear on teeth,” Dr. Eng explains. “Correcting bite issues can also relieve jaw discomfort and improve chewing and overall function. By addressing these underlying issues, we help patients not just look their best but feel and function their best for years to come.”
Identifying potential mouth and jaw issues early is one of the key reasons the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children be evaluated by an orthodontist by age seven. At this stage, a specialist can spot developing concerns such as crowding, bite misalignment, or jaw growth issues before they become more complicated. Early evaluation allows for timely intervention when needed, which can guide jaw development, improve oral function, and often reduce the complexity or duration of treatment.
Eng Orthodontics makes it easy for families to follow the AAO’s guidelines by offering complimentary evaluations starting at age seven, with free follow-up checkups every six months. Whether it’s a single visit or several years of monitoring, Dr. Eng takes a thoughtful, patient-centered approach, beginning treatment only when it is necessary. This careful timing ensures that each child receives the right care at the right stage of development.
When orthodontic treatment becomes necessary, Eng Orthodontics combines advanced technology with personalized care to deliver fast, precise, and comfortable results. “We use iTero® digital scans, which eliminate the need for traditional impressions and capture a complete, highly accurate image of the mouth,” Rachel explains. This technology allows both the team and patients to see detailed images of the teeth instantly, helping guide treatment decisions and giving patients a clear understanding of their progress every step of the way.
When it comes to orthodontic treatment, Eng Orthodontics stresses the importance of choosing a board-certified orthodontist. Board certification reflects not only extensive training beyond dental school but also a commitment to the highest standards of patient care and ongoing education. “Board certification ensures that I
“Of course I love creating confident, healthy smiles — but just as meaningful is being a steady, positive presence for them during a time when encouragement and connection matter most.”

can provide the safest, most effective, and predictable treatment for every patient,” Dr. Eng explains. “It’s about giving families peace of mind, knowing their smile is being guided by someone with the experience and expertise to deliver lasting, healthy results.”
Eng Orthodontics has always been, and will continue to be, a family-owned and family-run practice. That dedication to family is now passing to the next generation: this summer, their two oldest sons will begin dental school, while their youngest son will be applying, continuing the family’s commitment to their patients, their profession, and the community they serve.
Eng Orthodontics offers a full range of treatment options, including traditional metal and clear braces as well as Invisalign®, all tailored to each patient’s needs. Treatments are provided for a flat fee, regardless of the length of care.
Located at 18148 West 92nd Lane, Unit 500, in Arvada, Eng Orthodontics welcomes new patients to explore treatment options and schedule complimentary consultations. Providing hope and spreading joy through outdoor adventures for terminally ill children
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL
In 2005, the Slaven family lost four-and-a-half-year-old Bethany after her battle with brain tumors. During that journey, they noticed so many other families going through something similar. So Kerry and Diane Slaven, Bethany’s grandparents, founded Brave Young Hearts in Bethany’s memory with hopes of bringing joy and fun into the lives of terminally ill children and their families.
“We were able to go with Bethany on her MakeA-Wish trip to a place called Give Kids the World in Florida, and that's where we started seeing that there are so many other families losing children,” shares Kerry, known by most as Papa Bear. “The Make-A-Wish foundation does a great job, but we felt that there is also a need for kids who want to go fishing, hunting, or camping, and that we could provide that type of outlet.”
“We want kids and their families to be able to get away for a week and do something that they wouldn't normally get to do,” adds Diane. “Because they are doing outdoor activities, we're hoping that it gives them a chance to really relax and be together as a family instead of having to be at doctor's appointments and hospitals.”
To date, Brave Young Hearts has sponsored forty-seven children and their families for adventures, with trips forty-eight and forty-nine planned to take place this May. The adventures requested are as varied and eclectic as the kids themselves. Families have experienced elk hunting, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, national parks, and more.
“We have a kiddo, Corbin, who is quadriplegic and can't fly. He lives in South Carolina and has it on his bucket list to go see the Grand Canyon,” explains Papa Bear. “We rented them a motor home and it's going to be a 4300-mile round trip adventure for him and his family. He will get to go see the Grand Canyon, but we also have some other things for him on the way. For example, they will cross the Mississippi, and we want them to do a riverboat cruise while they are there.”
“Another kid from North Dakota asked if he could go whale watching,” he continues. “They went to California for whale watching but I warned him before they went that although we were chartering a boat, there was no guarantee that they would get to see whales. In the first hour, they saw three blues!”
Sometimes they can help kids fulfill more than one wish in a trip. “One boy named Lionel had cancer in his back. He wanted to go deep sea fishing, and so we were planning a sea fishing trip for him,” says Diane. “His mom shared with me that Lionel was looking for a place where he could get baptized in the ocean. We contacted the charter boat captain, who is also ordained, and explored surprising Lionel by having Tom baptize him when they came back from fishing.”
CONTINUED >

“We want kids and their families to be able to get away for a week and do something that they wouldn't normally get to do.”

“Captain Tom loved the idea, and he had a lot of people from his church show up at the shoreline for their return,” adds Papa Bear. “So Lionel caught all these fish during the day, and he had no idea that all those people were gathering around the shore to watch Tom baptize him in the ocean.”
Brave Young Hearts covers all aspects of the family’s adventure for every member of the family, including parents and siblings, so that the entire family can enjoy time together. In addition to giving each child a care package full of goodies for the trip, Brave Young Hearts covers transportation, lodging, meals, tickets and guide fees, and spending money for souvenirs. Adventures range in cost from $1,000 to $20,000 depending on the wish and the logistics needed to make the trip go smoothly, with the average cost being $10,000 per trip.
“We are blessed that so far, we have not had to turn a child away and that has always been our goal,” says Diane. “When we first started, we only had $1,500 of our own money, but people have donated and contributed and thankfully we have been able to help each child who has applied.”
To raise the funds for the trips, Brave Young Hearts holds an annual Sporting Clays fundraiser in August that includes a silent auction. This year’s event is scheduled for August 9th. The event offers
many opportunities for individuals and businesses to support this great cause through sponsorships, helping set up, run, and clean up after the event, and there is always a need for donated items to be used for the silent auction.
In addition to monetary donations, Brave Young Hearts uses in-kind donations of airline points, event tickets, services (such as hunting and fishing guides), and even the use of vacation or rental properties to house families while they are on their adventure. Because the entire team and board at Brave Young Hearts are volunteers, all the funds and resources donated go directly to making the dreams of kids come true.
“As a general rule, people tend to not want to think about kids who are suffering and dying,” says Papa Bear. “We just want them to know that there are a lot of kids out there and we would really love to partner with them to put a smile on as many of those kids’ faces as possible.”
Brave Young Hearts is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that sponsors adventures for terminally ill children ages 5-18 years old. For more information, to donate, and to see video testimonials from all the kids who have benefited from this amazing program, visit braveyounghearts.net and follow Brave Young Hearts on Facebook. An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.
A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.
Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?
A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.
Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?
A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.
Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?
A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.
“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”
Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?
A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”
Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.
This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

How new windows can be a smart investment for your home
Here in Colorado, the views are endless. From snowy peaks to golden aspens, our windows frame the beautiful landscapes around us. Windows also play a large role in how our homes feel, function, and hold their value. That’s why many homeowners are turning to New Windows for America - not just for an upgrade, but for a smart investment in their homes.
For over 25 years, Clyde Lundeen has been serving homeowners in the Denver area. He started Windows for America in 1999, assisting customers with windows, doors, and siding projects.
Colorado’s climate can vary dramatically. Older or poorly insulated windows often struggle to keep up. This can lead to drafts, varying indoor temperatures, and rising energy bills. Modern, energy-efficient windows are designed for this. Multi-pane glass, advanced coatings, and durable frames help regulate indoor temperatures, keeping warm air in during winter and blocking excessive heat in summer.
So, how will new windows help your home? First of all, comfort you can feel immediately. Rooms stay cozier in the winter and cooler in the summer.
“With today's technology of windows and glass, it will keep your inside temperature in and the outside temperature out. I like to call it "SMART GLASS "’, said Lundeen. HVAC systems
don’t have to work as hard, which can mean substantial savings over time. While replacing windows requires an upfront investment, homeowners tend to save money through lower monthly utility bills.
According to Lundeen, “New windows will improve the comfort of your home and in most cases, they save homeowners about 20% off the heating and cooling portion of their energy bills.”
Financially, windows can be one of the more reliable home improvement investments. Unlike trend-based updates, energy-efficient windows add value through improved performance and lower utility costs. In Colorado’s competitive market, updated windows signal quality and carehelping homeowners enjoy immediate comfort while adding long-term resale potential.
That’s where local expertise matters. New Windows for America understands Colorado’s unique environmental demands and offers products built specifically for this area. Their approach focuses on quality materials, professional installation, and straightforward pricing. Proper installation is crucial -even the most advanced window won’t perform at its best if it isn’t installed correctly. With experienced staff and attention to detail, the company helps ensure homeowners receive the full benefit of their investment.

“With today’s technology of windows and glass, it will keep your inside temperature in and the outside temperature out. I like to call it
‘SMART GLASS’”

According to Lundeen, “When you get new windows, they will operate so smoothly and easily. They will have features that allow you to clean your windows from the interior of your home. You will always have a clear view.”
In the end, windows aren’t just pieces of glass. They are literal statements, energy keepers, and long-term assets. For homeowners looking to blend beauty, comfort, and financial wisdom, investing in high-quality windows is a decision that pays dividends.
When Clyde Lundeen is not busy with New Windows for America, he’s spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loves the outdoors and spending time with friends.

In a world where healthcare can often feel rushed and impersonal, Dr. Carlos Vela Brol is part of a growing movement focusing on the doctor-patient relationship. Through his affiliation with MDVIP, Dr. Vela Brol offers a personalized model of primary care designed to prioritize prevention, time and relationships.
Dr. Vela Brol, who has been practicing medicine for over 20 years, recently opened his own office in Lakewood. He is a board-certified family physician who focuses on creating a genuine connection with his patients. “I feel like I am in love with medicine again,” said Dr. Vela Brol.
MDVIP is a national network of primary care physicians who see fewer patients, so they can focus more on preventive care and a better healthcare experience. For Dr. Vela Brol, this philosophy aligns with a commitment to understanding the full picture of each patient’s health. According to Dr. Vela Brol, “As a family doctor, you know your patients.”

When a doctor knows your medical history, family background, lifestyle habits, long-term health goals, and has a relationship with you, they can spot changes and patterns that might otherwise be missed. According to Dr. Vela Brol, “It lacks continuance of care if you go somewhere else.”
Longer appointments create the space for deeper conversations about lifestyle, family history, stress, personal goals and more. Patients benefit from same- or next-day appointments and the ability to reach Dr. Vela Brol after hours for urgent needs.
At its core, this approach is a partnership. Dr. Vela Brol says it best: “We are all patients.” Everyone needs someone to listen to and guide them in the right direction. By fostering trust and open communication, he creates an environment where patients feel heard and truly supported.

FOUR SIMPLE WAYS TO INVEST IN YOUR MORNING AND START YOUR DAY OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

One of the best ways to invest in yourself is by creating a consistent and intentional morning routine. No matter how unpredictable or chaotic the rest of your day may become, starting your morning with self-care and purpose sets a positive tone that stays with you throughout the day. Once you develop a morning routine that truly resonates with you, you’ll look forward to it every night, knowing it will set the foundation for a productive and fulfilling day.
If you’re ready to elevate your mornings, here are some meaningful ways to invest in your routine and start each day on the right foot.
One of life’s simplest pleasures is savoring a homemade coffee each morning. While skipping the drive-thru may be tough at first, brewing your own allows you to appreciate the process—and chances are, you’ll end up preferring your own perfect cup of joe.
An hour-long gym session before work may not be realistic, but a quick morning walk is. Use this time to clear your mind, enjoy nature, and listen to your favorite podcast or artist—an easy way to start your day feeling relaxed.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet often the most overlooked. Setting your alarm just minutes earlier to prepare a fresh, nutritious meal can transform your morning, fueling your body and mind for a more energized and productive day.
Starting your day with a book is far more calming than scrolling through social media. Reading in the morning helps ease you into the day, providing a peaceful and mindful escape that sets a positive, focused tone for what’s ahead.
