In this season of giving thanks, we often find ourselves reflecting on the many blessings in our lives. The true spirit of Thanksgiving encourages the conscious expression of gratitude. Spending quality time with those you love also encourages us to give back in a meaningful way. It’s easy to get caught up in our day-to-day work. While ambition and working toward goals can be very healthy, it's also important to be present, enjoy the ride, and appreciate those around us who have helped us in our journey. It's important to take time to focus on what really matters in our lives. Possessions and titles are worthy achievements, but our relationships and what we do to improve our communities brings a special feeling of fulfillment. We Saved You A Trip To The Ocean Mountain towns are often distrusting of transported seafood, brushing it aside out of concern for freshness. After all, how fresh can it be after a day-long flight or transit? Enter Water Grill, a SoCal-based chain of high-end family restaurants dedicated to serving Denver the freshest fish possible thanks to a proprietary distribution company, alongside unbeatable service and an unforgettable ambiance. Denver’s new Water Grill location opened to the public on February 9th, with a soft opening held a week prior for friends and family. They swung open their doors with a devotion to offering an elevated dining experience, complete with premium seafood and a staff with deep knowledge of each menu item. The 9,400-square-foot establishment can seat nearly 240 guests in the main dining room, plus 36 seats at the bar and raw bar. The chic dining room flaunts homey wooden ceilings and rustic leather chairs, as well as buttoned, tufted leather booths and ambient chandeliers. Nautical decorations surround each room, from paintings of the sea to wallmounted snapper and mahi-mahi pinned to classic brick walls. And if you’re seated by the kitchen, you’re in for a show. All that separates you from Water Grill’s team of seafood extraordinaires is a sliding glass door. Water Grill’s extensive menu doesn’t miss a beat, from wild Alaskan black cod and tasty King Crab to fresh sushi crafted by their team of skilled itamae. You’ll also find Ross Sea Chilean sea bass that’ll make your mouth water, Santa Barbara spot prawns, chilled shellfish platters for shared meals, and expansive menus for their raw bar and oyster selection. You’ll find that their menu changes on a daily basis according to the season. The restaurant also harbors an impressive saltwater tank system chockfull of live shellfish, Barents Sea king crab, lobster, and more. However, it’s their signature plates and expert service that’ll keep you coming back. Try their farmed Peruvian Bay Scallops, garnished with pistachio and citrus pesto, or a classic harbor meal such as the New England Lobster Rolls. The wild Spanish Octopus is bolstered with fingerling potato, roasted tomato, niçoise olives, and just the right amount of lemon and olive oil - all on a charcoal grill. As for their wild Ross Sea Chilean Sea Bass, you’ll find it paired with a memorable butternut squash gnocchi and sage brown butter. Water Grill even cooks up secret, off-menu items for those who are aware, such as their fresh, whole fish ceviche. For a meal that’ll leave you craving more, consider a few recommendations of Chef Biederman. If you like to kick things off with an appetizer, go for the whole fish ceviche. Water Grill is owned by King’s Seafood Company, a high-end restaurant chain and seafood distribution company out of Costa Mesa, California. Perhaps the most interesting trait about the company King’s Seafood owns its own distribution company, their fish is bought straight from fishermen. Oysters are direct from oyster farms. Crab boats supply their live King Crab. Thanks to King’s seafood distribution company in Santa Ana, California, Water Grill can bring the freshest seafood from the coast to the mountains of Denver. Quality is lost in transit, too. In fact, Denver’s Water Grill receives three shipments of seafood per week from their distribution center in California - and the trip is only four hours door-to-door. King’s Seafood Company and Water Grill were co-founded by two cousins who tapped into their
fathers’ legacies. Sam and Jeff King, whose fathers began building restaurants together in 1945, hold over 75 years of close connections with local fishermen and lobstermen. A large percentage of King’s supply comes from Southern California, which is then plugged into their tight-knit network of family restaurants. When asked about their decision to set up shop in Denver, co-owner Sam King shared his thoughts: “We are so pleased to bring Water Grill to Colorado. Practicing Gratitude A Thankful Life ARTICLE BY ALLISON BANKSTON
When I was young, our family would start Thanksgiving dinner each year with the same, wonderful tradition. One by one, we would go around the table and express several things we each were grateful for within the last year. The list varied from conquering a major illness to connecting with an old friend. By the time everyone had their turn, we all felt pretty good about what we had experienced as a family in the last 12 months. Maybe your family has a similar tradition around the holidays. How do you keep that same spirit of Thanksgiving alive throughout the year? Expressing

gratitude can be simple or a complex set of practices you add to your routine. Here are some ideas to help you practice gratitude this season and throughout the coming year. 1. Share gratitude. Expressing thanks to coworkers and friends can significantly strengthen your relationships. It can foster better communication, build trust, and create a deeper level of understanding between people. It also opens doors to enhanced connections. No sentiment of thanks is too small to help others see their worth.
2. Reflect on successes. To see how well things are going now, it’s important to remember where you were a year ago or longer. Remember the struggles you encountered, and consider how far you have come. 3. Keep a gratitude journal. Make it a daily practice—perhaps before bedtime or during your morning coffee. Remind yourself of the good things that have happened during the last day. You’ll be amazed when you go back and read the entries a month or a year from now. There are so many reasons to be thankful every day. 4. Use your senses to appreciate the world around you. Gratitude can be as simple as stepping outside in the fresh air, closing your eyes, and enjoying the feeling of the breeze on your cheek or the smell of nearby trees...or maybe the bakery down the street. Love hiking? Make the time to do fun, short weekend trips. Recognize and appreciate the little things that surround you and make you happy. 5. Write thank you notes. It may seem outdated, but it’s amazing how incredible you make someone feel when you write an authentic, heartfelt, hand-written note to someone in appreciation for something they did. It will help them feel valued, while also boosting your spirits, knowing you’ve made sure someone knows how special they are to you. An emailed thank you note can also make a positive impact on a person’s day. The fact that you took the time to recognize something wonderful about another person can be magical for both of you. Showing gratitude is not just a nice thing to do. It’s been scientifically proven to make a difference in improved sleep and overall mental health. A 2011 study published

Close your eyes and mentally list three things you are thankful for today. It could be as simple as how much you enjoyed dessert after dinner. Vegan leather may be the hottest trend in fashion this fall! Everyone is talking about it and with good reason. Vegan fashion is all about being environmentally conscious. But there are other reasons it’s a huge hit in the fashion world this year: it’s cruelty-free, sustainable, and more affordable in many cases. Judy says jumpsuits have become a major item everyone should have. “It’s such a great piece to dress up or down, such as pairing it with heels for a more upscale look or with cute boots and a plaid shacket or denim jacket for a more casual, fun look.” Jumpsuits can be worn all year with different accentuating pieces, and this year, jumpsuits feature more wide-legged styles. Shackets, by the way, are super popular in fall fashion, as well as anything plaid: plaid shackets, plaid shirts, plaid anything! Judy says everyone needs a shacket...period! You won’t regret it. The trend started last year, and it’s continuing. It’s one of those things you’ll keep going back to in your closet. Plus, shackets are warm! Denim jackets are always a great staple to throw on over an outfit to make it more casual and to layer, as the temperatures vary this time of year. Wide-legged, colored jeans are another hot item this year. You can match so many things with them, dressing them up or down. Judy says many women find wide-legged jeans to be a very flattering style. When Nick and Amie Costanzo created Freedom Street Social, they had a vision far more meaningful than your typical food hall. Community is the essence of Freedom Street. Opening this past July, Freedom Street Social has already become an important spot for congregation and connection within the Arvada community. The warm atmosphere is perfect for spending time with family, co-workers, and even strangers that might become your new best friends. When thinking of Freedom Street, Amie says, “Bringing community together is the most important aspect of it.” The inspiration behind the name comes from Freedom Street in Toledo, Ohio, where Nick’s Italian grandmother used to live. Come to Freedom Street for every meal from breakfast to dinner, or even just stop by for some coffee and vinyl perusing. Better yet, swing by to simply socialize and enjoy the inviting, comfortable space, currently decked out for the fall season.
She fostered Nick’s love of good food by cooking while he and his sister were spending time there. Amie grew up similarly in a small town in the Midwest where knowing your neighbors and connecting with the community was an integral part of the culture. Come to Freedom Street for every meal from breakfast to dinner, or even just stop by for some coffee and vinyl perusing. Better yet, swing by to simply socialize and enjoy the inviting, comfortable space, currently decked out for the fall season. The food hub picked up 400 pumpkins from a Brighton farm for a wide variety of fun, seasonal activities from pumpkin carving contests to pumpkin bowling. Following the Freedom Street tradition of using food to bring people together, the chefs are planning to use the pumpkin insides to make pumpkin pies. Current dining options range from Asian-fusion and Italian to American comfort food. The eateries include Sushi Kuro, The BKFST Club, Giordano’s Pizza, and more. Amie has a particular fondness for good coffee, and you can find an abundance of it at Pressed Coffee & Vinyl. Even the coffee beans are a cut above at Freedom Street. They are directly sourced

from farmers earning fair wages and are roasted on a Bellwether roaster, which is a gas and emission-free technique. The syrups are made in small batches with organic raw cane sugar. Every month, they come out with a new drink named after a musician or song. Amie explains, “Our first one was the ODC, the Ol’ Dirty Chai, after ODB from Wu-Tang. Second one was the Barry White.” Right now, that specially-named drink is Smashing Pumpkins, perfect for the fall season with white chocolate, pumpkin spice, and vanilla. Nick’s Freedom Street drink recommendation is a bit boozier but equally delicious. He suggests the Smoky Apple Cider Margarita, which is a unique fall mix of apple cider, maple syrup, fresh lime, and smoked tequila. Outside food, Freedom Street offers countless social activities and events. Yoga and CrossFit classes provide a fun intersection between community and fitness. Freedom Street has also hosted all types of events from a high school homecoming to a documentary screening and a political meet-and-greet. FULFILLING A HOLIDAY NEED With Thanksgiving right around the corner, you can already feel the holiday spirit in the fall air. It’s a time for community, appreciation, and, of course, great food. Lantern Home Group in Arvada is celebrating the grateful spirit by providing Thanksgiving meals to the students and families of Arvada High School experiencing food insecurity. Located in Olde Town Arvada, the team at LHG prioritizes giving back to the community. Realtor Diane Howard explains, “I think like many local businesses, it's important for us to give back.” Over 9% of the Jefferson County community, where Arvada High School is located, experiences food insecurity. Those experiencing food insecurity lack reliable access to nutritious food, something frequently taken for granted. With a high percentage of students at or below the poverty line, Arvada High School greatly benefits from LHG’s efforts and donations. The school runs a food bank within the school to provide assistance to the community. Every Friday, they put together meals for families that can’t afford to eat over the weekend. Lantern Home Group is sparing no expense to allow everyone the opportunity to have an abundant Thanksgiving this year. The realty team members, who have been working together since 2018, will knock on 650 doors
to collect food donations. Those donations will be picked up from each contributor’s front porch November 8th. Serving the community has been a tradition for LHG. “We've been doing charity for the Arvada underserved schools for the past five years,” Diane explains. They have partnered with Arvada High School in the past to supply Thanksgiving meals. “All of us have a heart for people with food insecurity,” she says. Each meal box will be stuffed with cranberry sauce, canned fruits and vegetables, gravy, Jello, Bisquick, juice mix, dessert packets, and boxed potatoes. On top of that, it will include a minimum of a $25 gift card for perishable Thanksgiving dinner essentials like turkey and vegetables. The team is hoping to put together 200 Thanksgiving meals this year to distribute at Arvada High School. With any additional or non-Thanksgiving food donated, they are going to help restock the school food pantry. The team of realtors at Lantern Home Group demonstrates the same level of care and consideration for the community as they do for their real estate clients. Diane emphasizes understanding every client as an individual. “We tailor everything we do to each individual client's needs; we go above and beyond for every single one of our clients,” she says.

However, donating year-round is greatly encouraged to help stock Arvada High School’s food bank. Garlic Mushroom Bruschetta A THANKSGIVING STARTER ARTICLE BY ALLISON BANKSTON
Mushrooms are an earthy, savory treat, and these are perfect flavors to feature in a warm appetizer before your Thanksgiving dinner.
INGREDIENTS • ½ crusty bread loaf, cut into slices • 1 ½ cup of mushrooms, sliced • 1 tablespoon butter • 3 tablespoon olive oil • ½ teaspoon minced garlic • 1 tablespoon fresh, chopped parsley • ½ teaspoon lemon juice • A generous pinch of sea salt and a pinch of pepper (to taste) • ½ teaspoon Sriracha or another sweet hot sauce
DIRECTIONS • Slice bread into small pieces. Brush with olive oil and toast in the oven at 400°F until the edges are golden (about 5 minutes). • Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet on medium-high heat. • Add mushrooms, garlic, salt and pepper, and turn mushrooms to cook evenly till golden brown. • Add lemon juice when the mushrooms are nearly finished browning. • Use a slotted spoon to remove mixture from skillet and toss with fresh parsley. • Spread the mushrooms onto the small, toasted bread slices, and top with fresh parmesan.
