Season’s Chronicles: Embracing Traditions and Community Joy in December The holidays are here and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflect that best. I can vividly recall the cozy atmosphere of our home, filled with the tantalizing aroma of ham wafting from the kitchen. The dinner table was a sight to behold, adorned with all the traditional sides that made our holiday feast complete. But what truly made the occasion special were the dessert pies – oh, the sweet indulgence of those pies after a hearty meal remains a delightful memory. These moments of togetherness and delicious flavors are etched in my mind, reminding me of the joy and warmth that the holiday season always brought to our home. This month, we wanted to highlight the magic of the season and what our communities have to offer that helps spread holiday cheer. We’ve compiled a gift guide to make your shopping easier and that also supports our local businesses. We also wanted to share what our area has to offer this holiday season for entertainment and ways to give back. While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community that need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other extending grace, empathy and love. Happy Holidays!

Fig Jelly Honey Variety of Cheeses Salami or meat of choice Olives (provide a variety)
• Walnuts, Pecans, Pistachios and any favorite nut • Grapes, berries, persimmon • Crackers
Place the jars of sauces and olives on the board first. Next place the cheeses on opposing sides. Add meats and fruits next. Layer in crackers, nuts and seeds and fill in any spots with extra nuts. Use fresh Rosemary or fresh greenery to add wreath accent in the center of the charcuterie board. Garnish with fresh cranberries. CONTINUED >

Place your favorite holiday cookie cutter on the board first. Fill the cookie cutter with mini marshmallows. Next, layer the large items first. Begin with the chocolate covered Biscotti and build around that using berries. Pile the berries high. Next add a variety of chocolate covered treats on opposite sides of each other between the mounds of berries. Be sure to add touches of berries around the edges. If space allows, place hot cocoa on board. Otherwise, set bowl full of hot cocoa mix and any additional hot cocoa fixings adjacent to the board.

DREAMY DRAW FESTIVAL
UNITING THE HEART OF OLD TOWN SCOTTSDALE THROUGH MUSIC AND CULTURE In November, Old Town Scottsdale came alive with the debut of Dreamy Draw Festival, a collaborative venture with Scottsdale Arts. This two-day celebration, presented by Oh Wow and Spoonful, transformed the Scottsdale Civic Center into a hub of country, folk, Americana, roots, and rock music. At its premiere, the festival headlined with American country stars Midland, showcasing their undeniable charm. Margo Price bridged generations in country music, alongside Trampled By Turtles, Breland, Watchouse, and Hailey Whitters, symbolizing the diverse future of American music. Local talents like Evan Honer, Taylor Glasheen, and The Senators, in partnership with Scottsdale Arts, also took the stage. Across the 40-acre Scottsdale Civic Center, three stages hosted world-class performances amid picturesque sunsets, creating an unforgettable musical experience.

This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

AN THEM WALMART | 7:00 AM Daisy Mountain Firefighters Charities hosts an annual Holiday toy drive. This year they will be collecting at the Walmart in Anthem and Cave Creek on, December 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17th. Delivery to the hospital is on December 20th.
