City Manager’s Monthly Update

I am excited to share updates on our ongoing roadway projects, demonstrating our commitment to enhancing safety and connectivity for all residents. These projects, funded through city, county, developer, and state partnerships, are crucial for our city’s growth.

This summer, the southern extension of Leonard Avenue was completed, and the East Foster Crossing developer project is advancing on schedule, targeting substantial completion by the end of 2024.The south extension of Ferguson Parkway, a major city initiative with an 80/20 NCTCOG funding match and TxDOT oversight, is through its environmental clearance phase.

We’ve incorporated valuable public feedback into the design and right-of-way acquisition is the next step. We’re also making headway on the Finley Boulevard Widening, which is expected to be completed by the end of September, enhancing traffic flow and safety.

Our Downtown Streets Project is transforming the downtown hub with concrete streets and on-street parking and phase II of the project will include a pedestrian street at North Interurban Street.

Looking forward, on the horizon include the widening of Rosamond Parkway, which will involve constructing southern lanes through the Buddy Hayes intersection, and the extension of Buddy Hayes Blvd., both north and south of Rosamond Parkway. These improvements will ensure robust infrastructure to support increased traffic at the Anna Town Center shopping district and enhance transportation efficiency in the area.

Preparation Time: 15 Minutes

ingredients:

• ¼ cup Coconut Sugar

• ¼ cup Water

• 1 Jalapeno Pepper (sliced)

• 3 fl oz White Tequila (2 shots)

• 1 Lime

• ½ Navel Orange

• ½ Sparkling Water

• ½ Cucumber (sliced)

• 1 tsp Tajin (Mexican Spice)

• ½ tsp Coconut Sugar

directions:

Step 1. To make the simple syrup: In a small saucepan add 1/4 cup of coconut sugar and water and bring to a boil. Reduce to low heat and simmer for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and add in 1/2 of the jalapeno slices. Place in fridge. The longer you infuse the simple syrup, the spicier it will become.

Step 2. Fill a shaker with ice. Add in the tequila, 1-2 shots of the jalapeno-infused simple syrup (step 1), the juice of 1/2 a small orange, and the juice of 1 lime. Give it all a good shake.

Step 3. Place the remainder of the coconut sugar (1 tsp) along with the tajin onto a plate and mix them. Wet the rim of 2 glasses with water or lime juice and dip the rim into the mixture.

Step 4. Fill the glasses with ice and add the tequila mixture (leave some room for the sparkling water).

Step 5. Add the sparkling water, a few slices of jalapeno, and the cucumber slices to the glass and enjoy!

It is with great pleasure to announce the Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Month as selected by Anna Independent School District Athletic Coaching Team. This month’s selection is Adelle McCormick.

As a senior in high school, Adelle has a strong passion for history, which is her favorite subject. Her favorite color is green, and she is a dedicated fan of the Dallas Mavericks. In athletics, Adelle plays as a middle blocker and outside hitter for the Coyote Varsity Volleyball team, having dedicated five years to the sport. Beyond her athletic commitments, she is actively involved in her church, which holds a significant place in her life.

Adelle’s hard work has been recognized in both academics and sports, earning her an Academic All-District award in volleyball. As she looks to the future, Adelle hopes to stay involved in sports beyond her college years. Her ultimate goal is to open her own gym, where she can share her passion and knowledge with the next generation of athletes. This vision motivates her to strive for excellence in everything she does, knowing that the experiences and skills she develops now will help her achieve her dreams. Adelle is committed to advancing her academic and athletic endeavors in college, aiming to reach new milestones and positively influence the world of sports.

INTERIOR STYLING

Have you ever pieced together an outfit for a special event or placed a collection of items on a shelf and then stood back and found that the pieces you pulled together totally worked or completely did not work? I used to think that I either needed a whole lot of talent or a bit of luck when it came to styling something beautifully. Turns out, there is no talent or luck about it at all. It all starts with a math formula. This formula is known as The Golden Ratio of 1.618. Discovered in the ancient world by mathematicians, this pattern can be found all over in the world of nature. This ratio creates patterns that can be found on the spines of a pinecone, seeds on a sunflower head, spirals on seashells, even the human form, to name only a few. And our eyes love to see it. Why our eyes like this particular pattern may remain a mystery but how to achieve it is no mystery at all. Fashion designers, interior designers, architects, photographers and artists have all been using this formula for centuries in order to achieve visually appealing compositions. And so can you!

LET’S MAKE A VIGNETTE!

In interior styling, a vignette is a small, curated collection of objects grouped together to create a smaller picture within a larger space in a room. Chances are, at some point you’ve put together a vignette without knowing it was one. What makes the difference between a purposefully styled vignette and a cluttered collection is all in the composition. The composition is most appealing when this amazing Golden Ratio is applied.

To get started on styling a vignette, first decide on the space you’ll place it. It could be an empty shelf, bedside table, or coffee table. Next, collect a few of your very favorite things that could be styled there. These objects could be a few books, a vase with flowers, a candle, a small clock, a plant, a few apples, the list is endless. Now that you have your space and objects to style, it’s time to assemble your vignette.

GET IN LINE!

Where To Place Objects

In grid form, the Golden Ratio shows designers exactly where to place the most important objects in the composition for the greatest visual appeal. Known as Phi, this grid splits the space that you’re working with into thirds vertically and horizontally. To apply to your vignette, place the most important objects on the correlation grid lines. Even better, place on the points where the lines intersect. This will be more appealing to the eye than if the important objects are in the center of the frame or far to the sides.

FOLLOW THE FLOWERS

How many objects to use

In number form, the Golden Ratio helps us to know how many items to use when styling a vignette. This form is known as the Fibonacci Sequence (0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, etc.). The sequence grows as it adds together the prior two numbers to get a new number (for example, 3+5=8 and 5+8=13, etc) and repeats. Amazingly, all the numbers that you achieve by doing this are the exact same numbers of petals that are found on flowers. How amazing is that! To apply to styling a vignette, choose a number in the Fibonacci Sequence for the number of items you will use to style. Typically 3 or 5 objects work great for small vignettes.

STEP DOWN OR TRIANGLE

What shape to create

The eye loves to see odd numbers. Odd numbers stop our brain from categorizing items into pairs which are less visually interesting. When styling a vignette, build a triangle shape of 3 points with the objects you are styling. To achieve this, vary the heights of objects to make a stepping down effect. If your items are of similar height then use books or a small object to lift one higher so that it appears taller than the others. To start, place the tallest piece in the back, medium piece in front and slightly to the side of the tall piece, then the smallest piece in front to create a stepping down effect. The Golden Triangle has angles of 72 and 36 degrees but any triangle here will do!

LAYERS UPON LAYERS

How to place objects

Avoid straight lines when styling a vignette. Three objects placed side by side is far less interesting than if they are slightly overlapped (literally or visually). Layer objects in order to give them a sense of belonging together, as random of a collection as they may be. Layering can also be achieved by mixing textures (woven basket, shiny glass and organic leaf).

TO MIX OR TO MATCH

How to choose objects

Decide ahead of time if your vignette will be a mixture of items or a single themed collection. If you’re mixing (such as using a vase, a plant, and a candle) then make sure your objects all have a commonality either of color, texture or form. If you’re going with matched items (such as all white candles) then take extra care to use odd numbers and varying heights for visual interest.

FACE CLOTHES THE SAME DIRECTION

It may seem silly, but when dealing with a small space, little things count. Hanging all clothes the same direction is a no-brainer for continuity in your closet.

USE REAL ESTATE WISELY

Reserve the front and middle of the closet for clothes worn most often. For someone who gets dressed for work each morning at 6 a.m., work clothes should be at the front of the closet. Store lesser-worn items like formal wear and out-of-season clothes toward the back and on the upper shelves. A large mirror and counter with chair provides the perfect spot to select jewelry and finalize finishing outfit touches. While every closet is different, the key here is everything has a home.

MAKE A STATEMENT

Why use an armchair when you have room for a sofa? Slide up a stool and colorful area rug to complete the look. If you have excessive wall space, consider a mini gallery wall or a statement wall with wallpaper to polish things off.

HIDDEN STORAGE

Hidden storage is a game changer in keeping a closet visually clean. Tuck folded clothes behind closed cabinet doors if the space is multipurpose. The floor-toceiling built-ins in Keri’s closet contain folded clothes, athleisure and other items she needs as she gets ready each day. Tuck away the least-used items: Use hidden storage and the very top of the closet for out-of-season items and stuff only worn a few times a year.

ORGANIZE BY KIND AND COLOR

Group clothes by kind first and color second. This ensures quick location of that favorite shirt when it’s needed. Bonus - it’s easy on the eye. Group like with like: Gather belts, sweaters, long-sleeve shirts, work pants, dresses, button-down shirts, jeans, shorts, etc., and decide the best place to store each item as a group (e.g., hang pants in the closet, fold and stack sweaters in a bureau). Working with groupings will help you figure out how much space you need and the best way to store each type of item.
