Hello friends,

When I was 4 years old, my parents moved our family from the west side of Detroit to the suburbs. I don't remember the logistics or the heartbreak of saying farewell to school friends. I do remember the expansive front lawn leading to a ditch and gravel road. I do remember there were NO sidewalks. Where was I supposed to ride my little bike and how was I going to walk to the neighbors to say hello?

Inside, I had my own bedroom while my four older brothers shared a huge room at the other end of the ranch house (formerly the "rec room"). My little sister, born the following year, had the room next to me with pink shag carpet.  Years later, she and I mapped out hiding places for epic games of hide and seek. We discovered the green armchair next to the living room picture window gave us the best view down the road, so we could watch for our brothers' arrival home from college or pilgrimages.

To this day, I could close my eyes and draw the floorplan of that Amherst Court house. And, its hiding places.

In this, our annual HOME issue, we bring you stories about hot properties on the market today, cool cooking gear and a historic hotel that is as warm and as welcoming as your childhood home.

Enjoy this issue! We're thankful you've taken the time to read the magazine. We're proud to be a part of your hometown.

All my best,

March 2026

WORLD CUP COUNTDOWN

KEVIN EGAN AND THE SOUNDTRACK OF A CITY READY FOR THE WORLD

When Kevin Egan talks about the World Cup coming to Atlanta, it isn’t with the detached enthusiasm of a broadcaster covering a major event. It’s with the pride of someone who lives here, raising a family here and believes the city is ready for its biggest global moment yet.

“I’m just so full of pride and joy that the world’s game is coming here to Atlanta,” Egan says. “Essentially, we have eight Super Bowls on the way. I can’t wait to play a small role in helping people understand the magnitude of what’s en route.”

That role, as a World Cup Ambassador for the Atlanta Host Committee, has made Egan, a resident of Roswell, a connector between the tournament and the city itself. His job, as he describes it, is to be a “mouthpiece for the tournament,” helping civic leaders, businesses and residents understand not just the matches, but the scale, culture and opportunity that arrive with the FIFA World Cup 2026. Atlanta will host eight matches, second most among U.S. cities, and that includes a semifinal that could feature the United States playing for a place in the final.

Atlanta has hosted global moments before. The 1996 Olympics put the city on the world stage, and Egan sees the World Cup as the next leap forward. With more than half a million unique visitors expected, a reimagined downtown, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which he calls “arguably the best stadium in the world,” as the centerpiece, Egan believes Atlanta is uniquely prepared. “There’s a collaborative spirit and a real zest for what’s coming,” he says. “You can feel it.” Soccer’s roots in the city have deepened over the past decade, particularly with the arrival of Atlanta United FC, whose 2017 debut in Major League Soccer shattered league attendance records and captured the city’s imagination. Egan, who is one of the lead announcers for MLS on Apple TV, believes the World Cup can help reignite that energy, especially with the return of coaching legend Tata Martino to the sidelines. Momentum on the field, he says, can fuel momentum across the city.

Still, Egan, a native of Dublin, Ireland, is quick to emphasize that the World Cup isn’t only for lifelong soccer fans. “So many people tell me, ‘I don’t really know anything about soccer,’” he says. “And that’s okay. Now is the perfect time to dive in.”

His advice is simple: sample the experience. Watch Atlanta United matches on Apple TV, wander downtown on matchdays, visit the fan zones and soak in the atmosphere.

“You don’t need a ticket to feel the World Cup,” he says. “The cultures, the music, the dancing—that’s the magic.”

That magic is already playing out in Egan’s own home. His two young children, ages seven and four, are connecting to the tournament not through tactics or standings, but through sound. “They come home from school and say, ‘Alexa, play World Cup music,’” he laughs. Shakira, Waka Waka, and Waving Flag fill the house—an early reminder that the World Cup is as much a cultural celebration as a sporting one.

And that, Egan believes, is what Atlanta residents will remember most. “They’ll feel it,” he says. “They’ll understand it. And they’ll never forget the moment the World Cup was in their city.”

PLEASE MEET MY FAVORITE AND THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME COOKING COMPANIONS!

A LEGACY IN

KITCHEN

“Its exceptional heat retention makes it ideal for long braises.”

Having been a private chef for many years and now cooking primarily at home for my family and guests, I’ve come to appreciate that great meals begin long before the first ingredient hits the pan. They start with the tools of the trade that you trust; those shaped by history, craftsmanship and experience. Pots and pans are the quiet partners in every successful dish, influencing flavor, texture and technique. In my kitchens, past and present, I return to timeless standards: AllClad for modern precision, Le Creuset for heritage and soulful heat retention and Mauviel copper for unmatched responsiveness. These are not merely cookware brands, but culinary companions, friends with a shared culinary history, that bring intention, confidence and enduring comfort and pleasure to everyday cooking.

All-Clad is the true workhorse of the professional kitchen. I continue to rely on it daily for dishes like a classic pan-seared scallop with brown butter, where even heat and precise control make all the difference. The bonded construction delivers consistent performance under pressure, whether building a delicate beurre noisette or finishing with a confident sear. It responds predictably, cleans effortlessly and stands up to repetition. All-Clad is cookware for chefs who demand precision night after night, without ever compromising elegance and accuracy.

Le Creuset brings the warmth and soul of France and “le bonne cuisine de nos grands-merés” to the American kitchen, blending performance with unmistakable personality. The classic enameled cast iron pots and pans were built for dishes like the classic

boeuf bourguignon, where slow, even heat transforms humble ingredients into something rich and unforgettable. Its exceptional heat retention makes it ideal for long braises, while the expansive array of colors allows each piece to reflect and customize your kitchen’s character. From stovetop to table, Le Creuset is both functional and expressive, where tradition, beauty and deeply satisfying flavor come together.  A note to the wise: be careful, they are very heavy, with or without the food!

Mauviel copper cookware represents the height of culinary control. Copper cookware is my choice when timing and temperature matter most. Its unmatched responsiveness allows for instant adjustments, making it perfect for sauces, reductions and refined technique. My Mauviel is always at the ready when I am preparing seafood or my favorite wild mushroom risotto. Elegant and polished, Mauviel pairs performance with centuries of French craftsmanship, offering cookware that is as beautiful as it is technically superior.

Needless to say, I’ve accumulated more cookware than I care to admit—seemingly a different pan for every dish, technique and moment in my kitchen. Years of cooking have taught me that the vessel is as important as the ingredients. Copper comes out for duck à l’orange, where precision keeps the sauce bright and balanced. A heavy pan anchors a green peppercorn-crusted New York strip, delivering a perfect sear with confidence. And for something quietly elegant like flan, gentle, even heat is non-negotiable. Each dish earns its pan, and each pan tells a story; one I’m still happily cooking.

POLISHING HISTORY

Leaning against the exposed brick wall of my pretty suite at The Everett Hotel, I closed my eyes and imagined the captains of industry who had, in this very space, built a bank and contributed to the growth of Bryson City in the early 1900s. Stanley W. Black and D.K. Collins built and managed Bryson City Bank, one of the few small banks able to survive the financial crises in the early 30s and pay the depositors in full, occupying the Everett Street building from 1908 until the mid-1960s.

The bar at Bistro at The Everett Hotel.

The Everett Hotel owners, hospitality entrepreneurs Ron LaRocque and Scott Mastej, renovated the first floor of the building in 2010 and opened The Cork & Bean, a coffee house and wine bar, which expanded to a full restaurant in 2013, and became The Bistro at The Everett Hotel in 2015. That year, the second and third floors were renovated as the hotel and rooftop terrace for hotel guests, and the rest is history. “One side of the property was originally a bank, and there were three original safes here and we utilize one of them in the dining room. There are inspection stickers dating back to 1914,” notes Ron.

This luxury boutique hotel with ten suites is a stalwart in the sweet mountain town of Bryson City, NC, with shopping, galleries, restaurants and fabulous mountain views.

The boutique hotel features ten luxury suites, each reflecting the deep history of the building and the heartfelt dedication of its caretakers.

Maintaining a historic hotel takes skill and expertise, with a load of TLC and gallons of Murphy’s Oil Soap.

“We find maintaining our property to be second nature,” says Ron LaRocque, who greeted me with a warm smile and the efficiency of a seasoned host.”We have a wonderful staff with established standards and procedures that make the achievement of this goal possible. We have enjoyed 100 percent sanitation scores since our opening, and this reflects our team’s effort to maintain our property.”

To keep the wood floors, doors and myriad of natural surfaces looking pristine, Ron shares that his team uses Murphy’s Oil to clean, then plenty of elbow grease to buff the wood dry, leaving it refreshed and rich-looking. He swears by microfiber towels for this job.

Returning to the hotel after a day out exploring Bryson City, guests will find a plate of home-baked cookies waiting in the guest lounge, where tea, coffee and water bottles are provided. This daily baked cookie service started the first day they opened in 2015, and today, guests remember the warm cookies as a beacon of hospitality at The Everett Hotel.

Community BUILDING

WALKING THE WALK WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Habitat for Humanity North Central Georgia and North Point Ministries have joined forces in a powerful partnership that is changing the trajectory of life for one local family and strengthening the fabric of the community in the process. Through a $180,000 all-house sponsorship made possible by North Point Ministries’ Be Rich campaign, along with an extraordinary commitment of volunteer time, this partnership is helping turn the dream of homeownership into a reality for a hard-working family who qualified for Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.

This home is being built through the combined generosity and service of North Point Community Church, Browns Bridge Church and Woodstock City Church. The all-house sponsorship fully funds the construction of the home, from the foundation and framing to the final touches of paint and landscaping. In addition to the financial gift, volunteers from across North Point Ministries’ churches will show up week after week, offering their time, sweat and encouragement on the build site. At the heart of this partnership is a shared belief: stable, affordable housing creates a foundation for families to thrive.

Over the course of approximately four months, volunteers will serve on 12 consecutive Saturdays to help move construction forward at every stage. Many have no prior construction experience, but all bring a strong desire to serve. Under the guidance of Habitat’s construction staff, volunteers learn to swing hammers, set trusses, paint walls, install flooring, hang siding and plant shrubs and flowers that will welcome the family home.

Building a Habitat home is both a logistical and relational undertaking. On average, it takes about four months of construction, roughly 3,318 volunteer hours, and close to 225 individual volunteer slots to complete a single house from start to finish. Each task—whether framing interior walls, raising roof trusses, painting trim or installing landscaping—is broken into manageable steps that allow volunteers of all skill levels to participate safely and meaningfully. Habitat provides the materials, tools and supervision, while partners like North Point Ministries provide the people power and funding that make the project possible.

“Through a $180,000 all-house sponsorship made possible by North Point Ministries’ Be Rich campaign, along with an extraordinary commitment of volunteer time, this partnership is helping turn the dream of homeownership into a reality.”

For North Point Ministries, this house represents more than a service project; it is a tangible expression of faith in action. “We talk a lot about loving our neighbors,” shared one North Point staff member. “This partnership with Habitat gave our churches a practical way to do that—by literally helping build the walls of a family’s future.” One volunteer reflected, “This experience is a reminder that church isn’t just a building, it’s how we come together to care for our community.”

The future homeowner family will work alongside volunteers throughout the build, contributing their own “sweat equity” hours and forming relationships with those investing in their new home. That shared experience will make the dedication ceremony especially meaningful.

Habitat-ncg.org

“Our partnership with North Point Ministries shows what can happen when generosity and service come together,” said Katherine Ortwerth, Director of Philanthropy. “Through the Be Rich campaign and the commitment of volunteers from North Point, Browns Bridge and Woodstock City Churches, this community is not just building a house—it’s building stability, hope and opportunity for a family.”

As the family turns the key in their front door, the impact of this partnership will continue to echo through meals shared at the kitchen table, homework done in the living room and milestones celebrated under a safe and permanent roof—made possible by a community willing to  Give Serve Love and build.

MONICA BLANCO

I perceive Alpharetta and Milton to see the most growth in 2026, as we have buyers looking in this area, both locally and nationally. We have current Alpharetta/ Milton residents looking to upsize or downsize, buyers looking to move here from intown, and buyers who are moving here from all over the country. Our fantastic downtown areas, including Alpharetta and Crabapple, provide such an appeal to residents of all ages, and the schools are consistently ranked among the top schools in the state of Georgia. Both Alpharetta and Milton continue to be two of the fastest-growing cities in Georgia, largely due to the strong local planning our local governments have been shaping. The focus on balancing residential

expansion with infrastructure, as well as maintaining an eruption for a community-focused lifestyle, makes this area incredibly appealing!

Now on the market is 215 Radlett Lane in Alpharetta’s highly coveted Glen Abbey swim/ tennis neighborhood. The home is move-in ready and sits on a cul-de-sac lot with a hard-to-find walkout yard accessible from the kitchen. Bookcase Styling your

Tips for an Organized and Aesthetic Display

A bookcase is often more than just a storage unit for books; it’s a focal point of a room that can enhance the overall decor and reflect personal style. Styling a bookcase can be a rewarding endeavor, allowing you to showcase your literary collection and curate a space that feels inviting and visually appealing. Here are some tips to help you achieve a beautifully styled bookcase.

Styling a bookcase is a creative process that combines practicality with aesthetics. By using these tips, you can transform an ordinary bookshelf into a stylish, engaging focal point that complements your home’s decor while showcasing your personality and interests.

Step 1

Strategically Place Books on the Bookcase While Incorporating Decorative Elements.

When placing books back on the shelves, think about the arrangement, vertical stacks are more traditional, horizontal stacks more modern, or both for more visual interest. Adding decorative elements such as picture frames, vases, or sculptural objects to break the monotony. Incorporating items with varying heights can create a dynamic arrangement. Use larger items like art pieces or baskets on lower shelves and smaller decorative objects higher up. Aim for a balanced look while avoiding perfect symmetry. This creates an organic flow, drawing the eye naturally across the shelf. Incorporate asymmetrical groupings for added interest, mixing textures, colors, and shapes.

Step 2

Use Color Wisely and Add Natural Elements.

Color plays a role in styling a bookcase. You can opt for a monochromatic palette for a sophisticated look or introduce pops of color for a more energetic vibe. If your books are of various colors, pick a few colorful decorative pieces that complement or contrast them effectively. Integrating plants or natural elements can breathe life into your bookcase. Small potted plants can add color and texture.

Step 3

Create Zones and Add Personal Touches.

If your bookcase has multiple shelves, consider creating zones or themes for different sections. Infuse your personality into the bookcase through memorabilia, travel souvenirs, or personal artwork. These pieces add a storytelling dimension and make the space uniquely yours.
