SNAG YOUR VENUE!
So You Said Yes! Now What?
Valentine's has always been a popular holiday for engagements, but it's become the most favored day to pop the question since the pandemic. Couples typically begin planning their wedding a couple of months after. Venues have become the most challenging step to navigate. Many are booked solid for a year or two because COVID has created a backlog of weddings that were postponed until now. We leaned into Tramway Plaza event specialists to pinpoint important considerations for picking a wedding venue. Tramway Plaza hosts weddings, private parties and corporate events, so they have a wealth of experience planning successful events. According to our experts, it is of utmost importance to carefully consider the experience your guests will have. Unless you have an outdoor wedding, brides-to-be might opt for smaller weddings if CONTINUED >

precautionary measures for guests' wellbeing are of concern. Additionally, evaluate the ease of parking, bathroom access, and other essential amenities that are likely to impact guests' comfort. Will the venue supply tables and chairs, or is this another detail you will have to figure out? Catering is a trend that continues to grow. Caterers are great because most will create a cost-effective and yummy menu. Ensure the venues you consider have enough space and the proper kitchen and necessities for your caterer. Evaluate whether the space flows smoothly and won't impede your caterer's ability to have food ready and served promptly. It's a valuable perk when a venue like Tramway Plaza can offer the use of indoor and outdoor kitchens. Hangry guests are never fun. Are you thinking about hiring a DJ or a band? Do your venues have enough space for live performers, decorations and an area guests can dance? Do you want to project photos or videos during your event? Some venues have very outdated technology, which can delay the setup process on your wedding day. Make sure a venue can

support your entertainment and activities. Then, of course, scope the space and consider how to decorate and tailor it to your wedding style. The ambiance is everything when crafting a wedding experience you and your guests will relish. Finally, consider any extra perks about the venue. Are there spectacular views and both indoor and outdoor space available for use? For example, a beautiful backdrop of the Sandias can make for some fantastic photos. Does your venue offer additional services that you know will make your day more manageable or more memorable? Can they connect you with services you need and are having difficulty obtaining? Tramway Plaza is now scheduling weddings and other events. Call and speak with their experts and see how they can help you tackle the most significant task of your wedding planning adventure. Collecting - An Art ART | THE EXPRESSION OR APPLICATION OF HUMAN CREATIVE SKILL AND IMAGINATION,TYPICALLY IN A VISUAL FORM SUCH AS PAINTING OR SCULPTURE, PRODUCING WORKS TO BE APPRECIATED PRIMARILY FOR THEIR BEAUTY OR EMOTIONAL POWER.
Collecting art has been a life-long passion for Albuquerque collector Bari Walcott-Arias. Her home is full of countless enchanting pieces that would overshadow many galleries and museums. Bari was very gracious in allowing us into her home to view her collection and provide some inspiration and insight into collecting art. Bari has collected pieces since she was a child. She doesn’t seek art. The pieces find her. They might be articles from long ago or newly crafted. She sees art everywhere and allows herself to be drawn into a

piece without reservation. It seems as though she has a bond with each piece in her collection. She has accumulated works from galleries, street fairs and antique shops around the globe. Bari treasures textures, colors, mixed mediums, and she gravitates to folk art, religious elements, and pieces that offer satire of the everyday. Bari clearly relishes her collection and will deliver as much knowledge about each piece as a docent on a museum tour. According to Bari, if you are interested in collecting art, you should frequent museums and galleries to appreciate the complexities
and differences in various artworks, artists, mediums, and styles and learn what you love about art and would like to collect. In addition, get to know and develop a relationship with artists and learn their stories and motivation for their art. Pulling pieces together for her displays seems to be an artistic expression in itself for Bari. When grouping art for displaying, she suggests varying the sizes of pieces, then considering whether they are meant to interact with or be protected due to their nature or value. Each room in Bari’s home seems to have a unique personality, with colors CONTINUED >

and textures lending themselves to telling the story of the artwork displayed. Every spot is used with intention. Stacked books, unique nooks, and found ornaments all placed so deliberately that it’s hard to imagine pieces could exist anywhere else. Many people think of buying art as an investment. While it is something to aspire to, new buyers must understand that there are no guarantees for investing in art. If a return on investment is your primary goal for collecting art, you will have to buy from established artists, which means you will need to be willing to invest more money. The more recognition and visibility an artist has received can help you evaluate the value of their work. More importantly, fall in love with pieces that invite curiosity and evoke emotion within you. Then, bring them together to curate an experience you’ll enjoy sharing with others. Finally, above all else, collect with your heart for a much more satisfying return on your investment.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF BOURBON Bourbon is an American whiskey, and its history is not well documented. It is unlikely there was a single "inventor" of bourbon, but this whiskey category appears to have evolved in the late 19th century. Baptist Minister Elijah Craig is often credited as the first distiller to put whiskey in a charred barrel, which gives bourbon its distinct flavor profile and color.

“After Prohibition was abolished in 1933, distilleries began to reemerge, and bourbon sales began to soar. In 1964 United States Congress recognized bourbon as a “distinctive product of the United States.” Throughout the late 1800s, it was uncommon for people to have access to distilleries used to create bourbon. So, they began to color and bottle whiskey and included ingredients like tobacco, iodine, or other substances to make counterfeit bourbon. As a result, the United States government initiated the 1897 regulatory Bottled-in-Bond Act. This law ensured you were getting a quality product. In 1919, the 18th amendment was ratified, kicking off the period of Prohibition, during which the government banned the sale, production, and distribution of alcohol until 1933. Many bourbon distilleries had to close their doors. However, some remained in business by obtaining a license that permitted them to sell bourbon as medicine to pharmacies, dentists, and doctors. During Prohibition, Walgreens grew from 20 stores to almost 400 by selling "Whiskey Medicine." After Prohibition was abolished in 1933, distilleries began to reemerge, and bourbon sales began to soar. In 1964 United States Congress recognized bourbon as a "distinctive product of the United States." The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 CFR 5) state that bourbon must meet these requirements: • Must be made in the United States • The mash must contain at least 51% corn • Cannot be distilled at higher than 160 proof • Must go in the barrel at no more than 125 proof • Must be aged in newly charred white oak barrels • Must be bottled at no less than 80 proof • Nothing can be added except water Today, bourbon is one of the most widely exported American spirits and has found its popularity in the form of small-batch and single-barrel top-tier bourbons.

It’s that time again! Are you sprinting to the local drugstore to grab a last-minute bouquet, some boxed wine, and hopefully a box of chocolates? Or, are you the kind of partner who shoots for the moon with every detail configured, like precisely scattered petals lining the floor to a five-course candlelit dinner? Either way, the preparation for V-day is a Rom Com. But because everyone needs love...and everyone needs some humor to get through love, we found some hilarious relationship quotes and then added some playful insight from a Female and Male perspective to help you smile this V-day!
"BEFORE YOU MARRY A PERSON, YOU SHOULD FIRST MAKE THEM USE A COMPUTER WITH SLOW INTERNET SERVICE TO SEE WHO THEY REALLY ARE." - WILL FERRELL. F: It's so true that you should know your partner's best and worst sides, accept them as they are, and decide if you can "forever" with them. M: Sadly, I'm slow to "compute" technology and quick to get frustrated, just like being in a relationship. Patience is a virtue!
“WOMEN CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT MEN ANMORE UNTIL THEY START GETTING BETTER TASTE IN THEM.” - BILL MAHER F: Women see a spark of “potential,” and we want to believe that someone is “the one,” when really, it’s just our

lizard brain telling us to snatch a mate, so we don’t have to act happy to be participating in Single’s Awareness Day! M: You can't change or control another person. So, create a safe space to discuss your relationship without expecting to agree on everything.
"AS A MAN IN A RELATIONSHIP, YOU HAVE A CHOICE: YOU CAN BE RIGHT OR YOU CAN BE HAPPY." - RALPHIE MAY F: “Happy wife, happy life!”.... Joking, not joking... M: You don't have to concede to the other person to maintain peace. There is no right or wrong; there is truth to both perspectives, but it doesn't mean either person's perception is accurate.
“IF LOVE IS THE ANSWER, COULD YOU PLEASE REPHRASE THE QUESTION?” - LILY TOMLIN M: Love is love. There are too many expectations built into the idea that it becomes convoluted. Be honest with your partner and understand they also have unique needs. F: Love is the answer when you are 15 years old! After that, finding your partner-in-crime seems much more sensible! Relationship research shows that humor helps love persevere and endure. A good joke and laughing together is like couples therapy. Now break a leg (not a heart) and find a humorous card to share with your sweetheart!

President and CEO Peter Mallouk shares his wealth of knowledge with approachable financial advice. Two issues coming together at once inspired the creation of Mallouk’s business. “My dad was a physician frustrated with his financial advisor who sold him products and didn’t really explain things well, and I was an estate attorney that saw a full view of the advisory world and thought there was a better way to deliver the all around experience. Ultimately, that led to Creative Planning offering investments and planning as well as legal

and tax advice in a very approachable, consultative way.” Mallouk has written several books, including 5 Mistakes Every Investor Makes and How to Avoid Them, and has cowritten Unshakeable: Your Financial Freedom Playbook and The Path: Accelerating Your Journey to Financial Freedom with Tony Robbins. “People are generally fearful of investment and feel the market is too low or too high at any given time. When there is a correction (a drop of 10% or more), people generally stay on the sidelines or sell their stocks, fearing the market may collapse and stay lower—there have been over 100 corrections, usually about one per year, and they have all ended with a full recovery. Some of these corrections turn into bear markets, a drop of 20% or more, and all have ended with a full recovery. On the other end of the spectrum, many are worried about investing when the market is at an all time high. This is actually completely normal and happens about once every nineteen days—in other words, all the time! We aren’t surprised when a Hershey’s bar, box of cereal or ticket to Disney World costs more, but somehow are shocked when
“It’s an exciting time—we can do more for our clients today than at any point in our history. In many ways, it feels like we are just at the starting line.”
the market hits an all time high. It’s normal, and inflation has a lot to do with it.” When looking for a financial advisor, find the right one by asking the right questions. “Most don’t realize that the vast majority of financial advisors don’t have to act in the client’s best interests. A minority of financial advisors are fiduciaries and operate under laws that share similarities with doctors and lawyers, meaning they do have to act in their client’s best interests. First, ask your advisor if they are registered as a broker or are dually registered. If they say yes to either, that means that part or all of the time, they don’t have to act in your best interests. There are thousands of advisors that will act in your best interest, so take the time to find one. Second, ask your advisor if their parent company, or the ownership of their parent company, own investment vehicles. If the answer is yes, don’t be surprised if some of those investment vehicles find their way into your portfolio. Essentially you may find yourself paying an advisor to then put you in a fund where the company collects another fee. There is no need to accept
this conflict. Find a fiduciary that is not dually registered and that does not own their own investment products.
