LIFESTYLE LETTER

For our April Invest issue, I stepped away from spreadsheets and strategy and invested in something equally important: restoration. What was meant to be a Valentine’s getaway became a sister escape to the Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa in Asheville where mineral pools, mountain views and a no-electronics policy reminded us that rest requires intention. From fireside conversations in the Great Hall to a spa carved into the Blue Ridge Mountains, the returns were immediate and lasting. Sometimes the smartest investment we can make is in ourselves.
For our April Invest issue, we turn to a business that proves some of the strongest returns are rooted in family. What began as a fourteen-year-old’s lawn-mowing venture has grown into Adam’s Garden Center and Gift Shop in Barnwell — a destination where landscaping artistry, curated gifts and community connection flourish side by side. Meet the Altman family and discover how passion, craftsmanship and deep local roots have cultivated a thriving enterprise that continues to grow across Barnwell, Aiken and beyond.
For our April Invest issue, we spotlight a business built on heart as much as expertise. Advanced Hearing Health of Aiken is more than a new practice — it is owner Leslie Johnston’s promise to serve the community that raised her. Inspired by her late mother and driven by a passion for restoring connection through sound, Johnston is investing in Aiken’s well-being one patient at a time. Her story is a powerful reminder that the greatest returns often come from giving back.
For our April Invest issue, we highlight a company proving that the best investments are built to last. For more than five decades, Aiken Swimming Pool Company has shaped the backyards where family memories are made, evolving alongside the region while staying rooted in craftsmanship and integrity. Now led by the second generation of the Hines family, the company blends timeless construction methods with modern design and technology. It’s a story of legacy, longevity and building spaces that appreciate in value for years to come.
However you define it, this month’s issue is a celebration of intentional investment — in yourself, in family, in community and in legacies that endure.

CHILDHOOD FRIENDS SERVING AIKEN WITH INTEGRITY AND PURPOSE
ARTICLE BY NIKITA HANIF PHOTOGRAPHY BY REBECCA JUDY
In a town like Aiken where reputation travels even faster than advertising, character still matters. For childhood friends Tyler Stuart and Brent Batton, character is the very foundation of Freedom House Wash. Born and raised right here in Aiken, the two built their business on something far deeper than clean siding and sparkling driveways. They built it on faith, family and a lifelong respect for those who have served our country.

Stuart and Batton grew up in families that shared similar values rooted in Christian faith, strong family bonds and gratitude for the military. Batton’s father is a Vietnam veteran, and his mother came to America as a refugee from Vietnam. Stuart’s grandfather served as a Marine Corps veteran. Those stories were not just history lessons told around the dinner table. They were living examples of sacrifice, resilience and discipline that shaped the men they would become.
While neither Stuart nor Batton served in the military themselves, they carry those lessons into every job they take on. The drive to complete each project properly the first time, the commitment to excellence and the attention to detail when pressure washing a home all trace back to their upbringing. For them, it is about honoring the standards they were raised with.
“Our faith teaches us to serve others with integrity and humility,” says Stuart. “We may not have worn the uniform, but we were raised by men who did. That instilled in us a deep respect for hard work, discipline and doing what you say you are going to do. Every home we wash is a reflection of that.”
Freedom House Wash specializes in residential and commercial pressure washing, serving homeowners who want their properties to look their very best. From siding and sidewalks to horse barns and trailers, Stuart and Batton approach each project with care and precision. They understand that for many families, a home is their largest investment. Treating it with respect is not optional. It is essential.

Batton believes their business is simply an extension of their values. “My parents sacrificed so much to give our family opportunities,” he shares. “My dad’s service and my mom’s journey to this country shaped how I see responsibility. We run this business with gratitude. Offering military discounts and serving our local VA office is our small way of saying thank you.”
Freedom House Wash proudly offers military discounts to active-duty service members and veterans. They also partner with the local VA office, pressure washing the building free of charge whenever it is needed. It is not about publicity. It is about principle.
In a world where shortcuts are common, Stuart and Batton choose the long road of integrity. They believe excellence honors their families, their faith and their community. In Aiken, that commitment shines just as brightly as the homes they restore.

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when dreams get rooted in family soil, and at Adam’s Garden Center and Gift Shop in Barnwell, South Carolina, that magic grows in plain view just off Ellenton Street. Long before the lush greenery, the eclectic gift shelves and the meticulous landscape designs that now define this local landmark, there were just a few boys with a love for plants and a dream. Adam Altman was only fourteen when he and his brothers started what would become a thriving family business by mowing lawns and selling plants at the local flea market. It was the kind of humble beginning that could have stayed simple, but for these brothers, it was merely the start of something much bigger, something destined to grow.

Today, Adam’s Garden Center and Gift Shop, owned and operated by Adam and his wife, Jennifer Altman, is much more than a garden center. It’s a destination…a place where community, craftsmanship and creativity intersect. It’s where landscaping dreams are drawn by hand, plants are selected with an expert eye and gift shoppers wander aisles of unique finds that feel personal, joyful and perfectly suited as gifts for loved ones or little self indulgences.
From the moment you pull into Adam’s Garden Center and Gift Shop, you can feel the sense of pride that comes from years of dedication. Walking through the garden center, you’re greeted with rows of vibrant plants, towering flowering trees and an array of gardening supplies that range from soil amendments to birdbaths and fountains. It’s the kind of place where you can find the perfect addition to your backyard space or a thoughtful gift item wrapped and ready for giving.
But the heart of the business has always been the people behind it, and there are plenty of those. True to the family’s roots, each brother oversees a different facet of the operation, blending deep knowledge with hands-on passion. Adam Altman oversees the general operation of the business and is known for hand drawing every landscape design that leaves their office. These aren’t generic blueprints pulled from a computer. They are personalized works of art that reflect a deep understanding of space, balance and beauty.
Once those designs are complete, it’s Adam’s brother, Stephen, who brings them to life. If precision, professionalism and customer satisfaction were plants, Stephen’s work would be the tallest, lushest specimen in the garden center. He implements each project with a careful attention to detail that has earned the respect and trust of homeowners not only in Barnwell but in Aiken and the surrounding communities. Neighbors rave about how his crews transform yards with thoughtful plantings, irrigation solutions and outdoor installations that feel both beautiful and functional.
Meanwhile, David Altman manages the garden center as well as the Old Hickory building and metal shed sales, which are as expertly constructed as the landscaping work that anchors the family business. David’s enthusiasm for plants and his genuine delight in interacting with both new and regular customers have made him a fixture of the community. He’s the one you’ll find offering gardening tips, chatting about plant hardiness zones or even weighing college sports predictions alongside conversations about perennials and shrubs.
Then there’s Jennifer, whose touch is unmistakable in the gift shop. More than a complementary presence, Jennifer has shaped the gift offerings into a curated experience that feels warm and engaging and entirely unlike your typical garden center selection. The gift shop at Adam’s is a treasure trove of candles with cozy fragrances, children’s items that bring out smiles, collegiate jewelry that speaks to local school pride and seasonal décor that changes with the calendar and the excitement of each holiday. Florals and arrangements are available, too, creating an extra layer of beauty and sensory delight as shoppers wander through. It’s a place that invites lingering. Customers might arrive for gardening supplies but leave with a candle, a sweet note card or a piece of jewelry and a deeper connection to the people who helped them choose those things. The gift shop’s array of brands and products gives locals reasons to return season after season, whether they’re shopping for a gift for someone else or treating themselves to something lovely.

But the business’s appeal doesn’t stop at merchandise. There’s something unmistakably homegrown about the way Adam’s Garden Center operates, something that reflects the Altman family’s deep commitment to each other and to their community. It’s common to see Adam’s twin boys hanging around outside, their laughter weaving into the day’s rhythm, or to find David’s daughters coloring quietly in the back office, a testament to how deeply the business is woven into their daily lives. Jennifer is often rearranging displays or bringing in new items, her creative eye making every visit feel fresh and welcome.
That sense of family extends to the customer relationships as well. Neighbors from both Barnwell and Aiken speak glowingly of the service they receive from the team at Adam’s. Clients highlight a friendly, professional approach and landscaping work that’s executed with care and efficiency. Many note how well Adam listens to concerns and ideas before translating them into thoughtful plans that enhance both beauty and utility. Others
praise Stephen and the crews for their work ethic and how they stand behind every project.
The reputation of Adam’s Nursery and Landscaping, the broader umbrella under which the garden center and gift shop operate, has grown steadily over the years as a result of that commitment. From large properties in Aiken’s Woodside Plantation to smaller residential gardens in local neighborhoods, the team’s landscaping work is transforming outdoor spaces with a blend of creativity and technical skill. Their installations address drainage issues, irrigation challenges and planting plans with wise solutions that honor both the client’s vision and the realities of South Carolina soil and climate.
It’s not just about providing services. It’s about creating experiences that make people feel welcome, appreciated and confident in the quality of work they’re getting. Customers regularly recommend Adam’s to friends and neighbors, a sure sign of trust in a small business economy where reputation matters.

“IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT PROVIDING SERVICES. IT’S ABOUT CREATING EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE OUR CUSTOMERS FEEL WELCOMED, APPRECIATED AND CONFIDENT IN THE QUALITY OF WORK THEY’RE GETTING.”
For many Aiken locals, the trip down to Barnwell has become part of a weekend tradition, not because it’s a scenic drive but because it’s worth it. They come for the unique gift selection, the advice from knowledgeable plant experts and the chance to wander through a garden center where each plant feels chosen with care and each aisle seems to invite discovery. They come for the personal touch that only a family business with deep roots can provide.
The story of Adam’s Garden Center and Gift Shop is more than a narrative about plants and landscaping. It’s a story of family dedication and of little moments turned into lifelong traditions. It’s about a business grown from grassroots efforts, from flea market beginnings to a thriving center that enriches gardens, homes and hearts across multiple counties. And while its services and products continue to evolve with the seasons, the one thing that remains constant is that at Adam’s Garden Center, family comes first and every customer is welcomed like one of their own.

In 2025, Advanced Hearing Health of Aiken opened its doors with a mission rooted in love, legacy and the belief that everyone deserves the gift of hearing. For owner Leslie Johnston, this business is more than a professional milestone. It is a promise fulfilled.
Johnston was born and raised in Aiken, and she often jokes that Aiken raised her. The teachers, neighbors, church family and lifelong friends who surrounded her helped shape the compassionate woman she is today. Opening a business in the very community that poured so much into her life feels deeply personal. It is her way of giving back to the place that has always felt like home.
Her journey into hearing health began with a different plan. Johnston once thought she would become a speech pathologist. But while working at University Hospital, now known as Piedmont, she discovered a new calling. She watched patients hear clearly for the first time in years. She witnessed the emotion on their faces when sound returned to their worlds. She saw children with hearing deficits receive the support they needed to thrive. In those moments, she fell in love with the field of hearing health.
“I will never forget the first time I saw someone’s face light up when they realized they could hear again,” Johnston shares. “It was life changing for them, but it changed me, too. I knew then that helping people hear was what I was meant to do.”
Her mother always encouraged her to dream big and one day start her own business. The two were incredibly close, and that encouragement stayed with Johnston

for years. When her mother passed away, she left her daughter the funds to finally take that leap of faith. With gratitude and determination, Johnston used that gift to establish Advanced Hearing Health of Aiken, carrying her mother’s belief with her in every step of her journey.
Advanced Hearing Health provides comprehensive hearing evaluations for patients of all ages. Johnston reports that recommendations now show adults begin routine hearing testing around age fifty, as hearing loss can gradually occur without obvious signs. After each test, she takes time to thoroughly explain the results so patients understand their specific hearing deficits. She then walks them through personalized treatment options designed to restore clarity and improve daily life.
Hearing health is about more than sound. Research shows that untreated hearing loss is connected to cognitive decline. Johnston is passionate about educating her patients on this connection and helping them take proactive steps to protect both their hearing and overall brain health. From advanced hearing aid technology to ongoing support and adjustments, she ensures every patient feels confident and cared for throughout the process.
Understanding that mobility can be a challenge for some, Johnston also offers mobile services for patients who cannot make it to the office. She accepts insurance and works diligently to make quality hearing care accessible to the Aiken community.
Each December, Johnston leads her heartfelt Gift of Hearing initiative. Through this program, she partners with the community to provide hearing evaluations and hearing aids to individuals who otherwise could not afford them. It is one of her favorite times of the year, a tangible reminder of why she began this work in the first place.
Married for 22 years, Johnston is supported by her family in every endeavor. Her daughter-inlaw works alongside her in the office, creating a warm and welcoming environment for patients. Surrounded by family and community, Johnston remains deeply thankful. Serving the town that raised her is not just a career. It is a calling.
Advanced Hearing Health of Aiken is located at 237 Barnwell Avenue Northwest in Aiken, SC.

For more than five decades, Aiken Swimming Pool Company has quietly influenced the landscapes where life unfolds at home. Founded in 1975 by Ronnie Hines, the company has matured alongside Aiken itself, earning distinction as one of South Carolina’s oldest and most established pool builders. Today, under the second-generation leadership of his sons – Billy Hines, President and Director of Operations, and Frank Hines, Director of Residential/ Commercial Sales – that enduring legacy continues to define some of the CSRA’s most beautiful backyard retreats.
As Aiken’s architecture and lifestyle have evolved, so too have the expectations of its homeowners. Inground vinyl pools defined much of the local landscape during the company’s first quarter century. Over time, however, the market naturally shifted toward a more customized gunite, or shotcrete, construction. It was a transition driven by clients seeking greater durability and aesthetic refinement. Aiken Swimming Pool Company adapted naturally with that demand. Today its construction teams are expertly trained across every installation type, employing timetested techniques that deliver structural integrity.

Gunite pools allow for greater customization in design features. Outdoor living spaces have become extensions of the home, complete with covered porches, outdoor kitchens and fire features. Pools have transformed from simple rectangles into personalized retreats. Aiken Swimming Pool Company has adapted seamlessly, designing pools that reflect the architectural character and relaxed Southern elegance of the region.
“When you are looking for a particular feel, it’s all about the finishes,” Frank says. “We can build very similar structures with completely different aesthetics based on the tile, decking and interior selections.
Today’s homeowners are asking for thoughtful features that enhance both aesthetics and usability. Sunledges, which are shallow platforms with 6 to 10 inches of water, have surged in popularity. Spacious enough for lounge chairs and umbrellas, they offer a way to cool off without fully submerging and provide a gentle entry point for young swimmers.
With more than 60 years of combined experience, Frank and Billy have watched demand for new homes and outdoor living

spaces accelerate in recent years. That surge, however, has also ushered in an influx of first-time operators entering the industry.
Aiken Swimming Pool Company’s teams are expertly trained across every installation type, applying trusted construction methods that ensure structural integrity. Repair, renovation and weekly cleaning services remain natural extensions of that foundational knowledge.
“These market conditions inevitably bring in new players with little to no experience,” Frank explains. “That is particularly risky for the buyer when you consider that most of a swimming pool structure is buried underground. I don’t recommend purchasing a pool from someone who has not
physically worked for an established pool builder for at least three to five years.”
Frank considers it one of his most important responsibilities to help clients understand how materials perform over time in underwater and water-adjacent environments. Not all finishes are created equal, and durability matters as much as initial impressions.
“This topic has nothing to do with design and everything to do with what you want out of the product and what the budget allows,” he explains.
The process begins with an onsite visit. Evaluating site conditions, elevation and structural factors ensures that design dreams align with practical realities. The team will then refine

“EXPERIENCE MATTERS IN POOL CONSTRUCTION. THE STRUCTURE YOU DON’T SEE IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE BEAUTY YOU DO. QUALITY CRAFTSMANSHIP IS WHAT MAKES A POOL TRULY TIMELESS.”
the vision until it fits both the property and the budget. They balance quality, cost and expectations as one of the most nuanced aspects of pool construction. Aiken Swimming Pool regularly spends hours in conversation with clients before the work begins.
For Frank and his team, pool construction is the art of creating spaces where families gather and everyday life feels a little more extraordinary.
“Most of us that spend a career in this industry get some level of satisfaction knowing that our efforts are going toward a product and experience that enhances the owners’ and their families’ lives,” he explains. “It’s definitely rewarding to create or renovate spaces that homeowners can use for improved family time or health benefits.”
Technology has also reshaped pool ownership. Automation systems, saltwater conversions and smart controls allow homeowners to monitor water chemistry, extend the life of surfaces and even turn on a spa remotely before arriving home.
Yet for all the innovation, Frank believes longevity is still the standard that matters most.
“In my opinion, what makes a pool timeless instead of trendy is using finishes that hold up over time,” he says. “I love walking up to a great-looking 15-plus-year-old pool that we built and telling homeowners it’s still not ready for a renovation.”
Aiken Swimming Pool Company has developed through generational leadership and an unwavering commitment to quality for more than five decades. In a community that values heritage, that depth of knowledge is more than a selling point. It’s a promise buried deep beneath the surface while supporting memories for decades to come. The Aiken Swimming Pool Company showroom is located at 2085 Whiskey Road in Aiken. You can contact them at (803) 649-7413 or info@aikenswimmingpool.com.

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.
A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.
Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?
A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.
Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?
A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.
Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?
A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.
“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”
Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?
A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”
Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?
A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.
This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

AT THE OMNI GROVE PARK INN & SPA, THE DIVIDENDS COME IN DEEP BREATHS, MOUNTAIN VIEWS AND MEANINGFUL SISTER TIME
ARTICLE BY GAYLE BRYAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY GAYLE BRYAN & PROVIDED

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance and storied past, the Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa in Asheville, North Carolina, was built in 1913 by Edwin Wiley Grove who made his fortune selling Grove’s Tasteless Chill Tonic. Constructed from massive granite boulders hauled up Sunset Mountain by mules, wagons and ropes, this storied retreat has hosted presidents, titans of industry and celebrities — and most recently, my sister and me. What was meant to be a Valentine’s getaway with my husband turned into much-needed sister time after he came down with a bug.
This trip was slightly off brand for me. My travels typically lean heavy on adventure and activity and light on relaxation and downtime. Still, who doesn’t need to intentionally carve out space to unwind?
I arrived in the evening and stepped into the rustic grandeur of the Great Hall, anchored by two massive fireplaces and framed by rocking chairs and intimate seating areas — perfect for curling up with a book, enjoying a cocktail or lingering over conversation. We opted for a light dinner at the Great Hall Bar,
soaking in the warmth of the fire and live music before turning in early to prepare for our spa day.
Our room was comfortable and inviting with sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Monday was devoted entirely to the spa. I scheduled a morning massage and an afternoon facial, each including access to the 43,000-square-foot oasis carved into the mountainside. “Spa” feels almost inadequate to describe the experience. Stone archways, flickering firelight and the soft sound of cascading water set the tone as we made our way from the Vanderbilt Wing to the mineral pools. We rotated between warm relaxation pools, waterfall features, the steam room and sauna. The spa maintains a strict no-electronics policy which initially left us slightly twitchy. Books in hand, we settled into the fireside lounge between treatments and quickly embraced the quiet. The outdoor hot tub terrace with panoramic Blue Ridge views was a highlight.
After a blissful day (the treatments were amazing), we returned to our room for a restorative nap. Riding the elevator in my spa robe may have been a trip highlight. That evening, we ventured downtown for a delicious dinner at Strada Italiano, followed by what has

become a favorite hotel indulgence in our family: hot cookies and milk delivered by Insomnia Cookies. Trust me — it never disappoints.
We checked out Tuesday morning and parted ways, but not before I squeezed in a hike on one of the property’s scenic trails — a fitting, on-brand end to a restorative visit.

Beyond the spa, the Omni Grove Park Inn & Spa also features a celebrated golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and a full sports complex. Whether you are planning a girls weekend, a romantic getaway or a trip with friends, there is something here for everyone.

When Jack Sheppard founded his garage door company in 1975, he may not have fully understood what it would grow into and how it would become a legacy for his entire family. Now over fifty years strong, the imprint of the Overhead Door Company of Augusta-Aiken can be found all over the CSRA, and customers keep coming back for more.
“We have many returning clients and builders who we work with every year,” says Abbie Garrett Baumann, Jack’s great-niece who serves as Office Manager. “We value relationships and loyalty, and we offer honest and reliable products and services. We care about our customers and builders and maintain our relationships with them.”
Overhead Door installs, repairs, and services residential and commercial overhead garage doors as well as openers and accessories that come with their products. In addition to offering over fifty years of local installation and service experience, the Overhead Door brand lends over 100 years of knowledge, product development, and expertise in the industry.
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE PARNELL

When Jack first started the company, garage door designs were limited, but the options are basically endless in today’s market. Styles range from utilitarian to elegant; completely solid to totally transparent. New smart technology also makes the doors easier to use than ever. “There are hundreds of door styles to choose from,” says Abbie. “Our main brand is the Overhead Door brand - the red ribbon logo, but we are dealers for five different manufacturers who all have different styles of doors to make sure we will have what the customer wants.”
The Overhead Door team works with customers to find the best fit for their home, business, and budget. Then, they follow up with installation by trained professionals and excellent customer service. “We give fair prices up front, so we don't need to do discounts because we already have the best price in the game,” Abbie explains. “We also try to treat others like we would like to be treated. If a customer calls back the next day after we have been there with a problem, we come back out.”

One of the most charming aspects of Overhead Door is that this family-run business encompasses not only Jack’s wife, Susan, and their children and grandchildren, but his sister, Jimmie Garrett, and her children and grandchildren, as well. Abbie says there are so many benefits of the Sheppard and Garrett families working together. “I get to see my dad every day and get a big hug in the mornings. I get to laugh and cut up with my uncle and work together on projects,” she shares. “I also get to work with my cousins, who I know well because we

grew up playing together since my Nana and Uncle Jack live on the same property. We all get along and enjoy each other’s company.”
Today, Jack can look around his company and see the fruition of hard work and perseverance. He is encouraged by seeing his family working hard to continue the legacy. "I am excited, just tickled to death, that my family would follow in my footsteps. It makes me feel good,” shares Jack. “I have taken it as far as I can and it is up to the next generations to take it to the next level. I think it's in good hands."
