Tile colour trends EARTHY TONES that can be found in nature, including amber, brick, emerald, and aquamarine hues, are popular palettes for tiles in 2022.

CHEVRON

The chevron pattern provides a symmetrical zigzag pattern. Despite this modern look, it dates back to Art Deco period where brick roads were often laid in a chevron pattern. efficient and helpful I cannot speak highly enough of the entire service from design to installation and quality of the finished room by IGS, Ian was so helpful during the design process with his knowledge and experience, the garden room was space planned with office desk, bookcase, sofa and wall mounted LED. All the office furniture was made to measure by IGS in their very own manufacturing base in Wolverhampton which helped the space planning. When the team came to install I was blown away by how efficient and helpful they were; Alek and Mark talked me through every stage from the groundscrew building supports through to installing the data cabling. I also tweaked the design of the decking, making it slightly bigger and adding some steps, this was no trouble to them at all. We are so glad that we went for the antique composite cladding along with the coffee composite decking the contrast works fantastically well with the Aluminium Anthracite bifold doors and with no maintenance, superb advice again. It was a significant investment however worth every penny! Highly recommended. classic ibiza adds 15 new tracks ahead of weston park return With Classic Ibiza making its much anticipated return to Weston Park on Saturday 16 July, the concert organisers have announced that 15 new tracks have been added to the set of over 30 house classics being performed by the Urban Soul Orchestra (USO) on the evening. USO bring true house music pedigree to Classic Ibiza, having worked for over 25 years alongside many of the greats, including Groove Armada, Nightmares On Wax and Robert Miles. USO’s Stephen Hussey says:

confidence boosting at old hall A teacher has spoken of how a poignant picture summed up the mix of emotions as his pupils returned to residential trips away from school without any Covid restrictions in place.

school trips for children as young as seven. “Parents are very supportive of their children joining these trips and as a school we have worked extremely hard to ensure they go ahead whenever possible. They are an important part of a child’s education. Teachers regularly see a positive impact on engagement in lessons and willingness to try more complex tasks in classrooms when they return.”

The picture of the pupils from Old Hall School saw them all linking arms together and looking out over a vast swathe of countryside in Wales during the two-night trip. Mr Alex Jones, Year Four teacher, said it was an emotional moment after two years of lockdowns and changing restrictions, which had cancelled many trips and limited others.

This year the children in Year 3 went to Culmington Manor in Shropshire, while Year 4 went to an activity centre in Anglesey, and Year 5 to the Peak District. Meanwhile Year 6 pupils enjoyed a four-day trip to North Wales. In the Easter holidays, 41 year 5 and 6 children travelled to Austria - a long overdue trip which had been cancelled twice due to the pandemic.

“School communities have had to face many challenges over the last few years and I have been immensely impressed and proud of how our children and staff have adapted and strived to make the most of their education throughout,” he added.

“We always ensure we get feedback from the places the children visit and consistently we have had very positive remarks on the behaviour and maturity of pupils and how they contribute to the activities they are involved in. They just relish the opportunity to have this freedom and to live up to the vote of confidence in their ability to try something out of their comfort zone. And to work together with their peers.”

“But at that moment it reminded me how important it was to get things back to normal as much as possible and start to encourage the children to be adventurous and to enjoy connecting with each other again,” he added. “It’s important for them to see how much the world has to offer and to stretch their horizons so they can make the most of the opportunities offered to them to experience new things. It was a really successful trip, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.”

“They certainly come back all the better for it. Children need to feel capable and confident in themselves and within social groups other than the family, to really thrive at school regardless of their academic ability. Sometimes these trips are also really useful in actually reminding parents just how capable children can be even at seven years old.”

Almost 150 children at the Shropshire school, some as young as seven, took part in a series of successful residential trips staying away from home from two to four nights. Headmaster Martin Stott joined one group of children camping and said boosting confidence by nurturing an ability to cope away from parents was integral to ensuring a child benefits fully from a happy and productive education.

Mr Stott went on to praise his staff for their incredible dedication in going above and beyond the call of duty to organise and accompany residential trips, adding that “They do it because they can see the huge benefit which their pupils gain from such trips ... and of course, it’s great fun, too!”

INGREDIENTS: 1 packet of filo pastry 1 packet of feta cheese 1 packet of salted butter 1 packet of washed spinach stalks removed 1 nutmeg 1 box of Smoked maldon sea salt 1 box of golden yolk eggs Parchment paper

COOKING UTENSILS: 1 baking dish about 30cm x 20cm 1 pastry brush (silicone if possible) 1 large and 1 small mixing bowl 1 small milk pan to melt butter Large chopping board Black pepper mill

METHOD - read through first then measure out all of your ingredients before starting •

Grease and line the baking dish with some of the butter

•

Lay the filo out flat on your board and brush the first sheet then place it in the dish

•

Butter half of the packet of filo sheets individually and lay on top of each other in the dish.

•

Put the spinach and 3 eggs into the large mixing bowl with a pinch of smoked Maldon sea salt and then crumble the feta in.

•

Grate some of the nutmeg into the mix with a twist or 3 of black pepper. Squeeze the mix together.

•

Press the mix down on top of the buttered filo layers and finish buttering the rest of the filo laying it on top of the spinach mix.

•

Bake for 40 minutes at 160oC and then allow to cool before chilling over night in the fridge.

•

When you are ready to eat take the filo pie out of the dish and cut into 8

•

Bake at 180oC for about 12 - 16 minutes or until nicely browned and crispy

•

Serve with a tomato and herb salad dressed with olive oil and apple cider vinegar

vegan brownie ¼ tsp baking powder 250g golden caster sugar 1½ tsp vanilla extract Oat cream cheese Cherry jam Fresh cherries Icing sugar

SERVES 4-6 INGREDIENTS: 2 tbsp ground flaxseed 200g dark chocolate, roughly chopped 250ml filter or instant coffee 80g vegan margarine, plus extra for greasing 125g self-raising flour 70g ground almonds 50g cocoa powder

METHOD - read through first then measure out all of your ingredients before starting •

Heat oven to 150C fan oven. Grease and line a 20cm square tin with baking parchment. Combine the flaxseed with 120ml of water and set aside for 20 minutes

•

In a saucepan, melt 120g chocolate, the coffee and margarine with 60ml water on a low heat. Allow to cool slightly.

•

Put the flour, almonds, cocoa, baking powder and ¼ tsp salt in a bowl and stir to remove any lumps. Using a hand whisk, mix the sugar into the melted chocolate mixture, and beat well until smooth and glossy, ensuring all the sugar is well dissolved. Stir in the flaxseed mixture, vanilla extract and remaining chocolate, then the flour mixture. Spoon into the prepared tin.

Bake for 35 mins until a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean with moist crumbs. Allow to cool in the tin

•

Slice your brownie in half and then equally into rectangles. Carefully fold half a jar of cherry jam into a tub of oat cream cheese. Spoon onto brownies, add fresh stoned cherries and dust with icing sugar.

Rumours were confirmed to be true on Thursday 19 May, when the locally renowned Cowshed restaurant formally announced its move to the former Horns of Boningale, situated on Holyhead Road between Wolverhampton and Albrighton.

Cowshed’s rustic aesthetic to create a truly memorable dining experience. The building has been opened out to create a sense of inclusivity, and the once tired colours have been replaced by a fresh blend of suave greys which together brighten up the building.

The move has been the source of much discussion over recent weeks, with customers excited to see The Cowshed’s renovations and sample its enhanced menu of tantalising British dishes, which have long been a firm favourite among diners from Shropshire, South Staffordshire, Wolverhampton and even as far as Birmingham.

The changes to the décor include sophisticated new lighting, wrought iron sculptures, and wooden cladding in keeping with The Cowshed’s rusticity. And of course, it wouldn’t be complete without The Cowshed’s signature cow paintings which can be found dotted throughout the various rooms, including its highly anticipated private dining space, which includes a bespoke handmade industrial round table capable of seating ten and plush teal dining stools.

The Cowshed in Boningale opened its doors for the first time on Friday 17 June 2022. Over 70 guests attended the grand launch party, where they were treated to fizz, followed by an exquisite three course dinner. Food options on offer included creamy wild garlic mushrooms with toasted sour dough, truffle dressed leaves, parmesan shavings and a balsamic glaze; pan seared seabass fillets with roasted courgette and red pepper, crispy sauteed potatoes, finished with a champagne cream sauce; and Cowshed lemon posset with raspberry compote and lavender shortbread. There were smiles and satisfied appetites all round.

The Cowshed began accepting bookings from Sunday 19 June 2022 and it’s no surprise they were fully booked on Father’s Day. The Cowshed is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, and for long lunches on Sundays. This Summer has seen the return of celebrations. Street parties for the Platinum Jubilee, much anticipated weddings, music festivals and holidays are all back on everyone’s calendar. We have caught up with Wolverhampton`s celebrity Hairdressers Nick & Royston on what they have been up to over the last few months.

What have been your summer highlights? Nick: It has been great having brides back in the salon. Weddings are such a happy time for families and for so many brides who have had to wait for months, or even years, for their Big Day. We have enjoyed three of our team getting married this year and that has been a real highlight for us all. Royston: Another special day for us was the wedding of the Countess of Newport at Weston Park. It was a fabulous day. The bride looked stunning and Lady Bradford was great fun as always. It was a pleasure to be part of their celebrations.

Holidays - anywhere glamorous? Nick: We have wanted to visit Jersey for a few years now, so when our dear friend Nicki invited us to spend a few days with her it seemed the perfect time. We joined her on her boat and cruised over to France for lunch and then joined her friends for dinner back at her exquisite home. Royston: The women of Jersey are incredibly glamorous and it was fabulous meeting some of the ‘Real Housewives of Jersey`and Jacquie Butlins, Billy Butlins daughter, who shared some exceptional stories with us. These remarkable women were incredibly entertaining, and we had a wonderful time.

hair & beauty Did you enjoy the Platinum Jubilee? Royston: We love the Queen; she has been a constant strength over the years and represents the absolute best of Britain. We were lucky enough to be part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, where we worked at Buckingham Palace Fashion Show, and it was incredibly special. Nick: It was a career highlight for us, we just wanted to do Her Majesty proud. The atmosphere in London that weekend was electric, so when friends invited us to a Chelsea Street Party to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee, we knew it was going to be amazing. Events like this, remind us all how lucky we are to be British.

As regulars on ITV’s ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’, we have recently seen you on BBC2. Tell us all about it? Nick: We both love great food and enjoy nothing more than fish & chips in Bridgnorth. So, when we were asked to take part in Britain’s Top Takeaways, it was Royston`s dream job. We judged a menu of five of the best takeaways over 8 nights. Each night we were given different takeaway favourites including Mexican, burgers and fish & chips and had to score each team. Royston: It was really hard to choose, they were all so delicious. We loved it! Although, our clothes were much tighter after the show, but well worth it!

Will we be seeing you back on our screens again this year? Royston: Yes, we are filming ‘The Real Housewives of Cheshire’ so that will be back on in late summer. Nick: Still full of drama, tears, and tantrums but it is great fun and we really do love all the girls.

pronking’ piggies for summer Can you believe its summer once again, the birds are singing the bees are buzzing and the little Piggies are ‘Pronking’!!!

Guinea pigs, or Cavies as they are also known, are friendly and sociable little souls and usually thrive in company of their own kind, although they should always have access to separate little hiding spaces to go to should they feel the need to have a little time to themselves.

Guinea pigs sometimes do something that is affectionately known as ‘Popcorning’ or Pronking as it’s correctly know. It’s behaviour that’s most commonly seen in babies and youngsters but older Guinea pigs occasionally do it too. It’s quite aptly named Popcorning because they basically bounce up and down repeatedly, it looks a bit like a corn kernel that’s just popped. The good news is that the reason for this behaviour is because they are happy.

With the hot weather upon us it’s important to remember that guinea pigs feel the heat too, they should always have access to cool shaded areas. If it’s really hot and they are usually kept outdoors, you may need to bring them inside. Check water bowls and bottles frequently and replenish the water regularly to ensure that they have fresh cool (not freezing) water at all times. If they have a water bottle, remember to press it very regularly to ensure that it’s working and that the little piggies are able to drink as and when they need to.

Just like human’s guinea pigs can’t produce their own vitamin C so it’s a good idea to supplement their diet by providing them with fresh fruit and vegetables to ensure that they stay healthy. Bell peppers are a great source of vitamin C and a really tasty treat too. Sadly, without the correct diet guinea pigs will quickly become deficient in vitamin C which can then lead to a condition called Scurvy. Unfortunately, Scurvy is quite common in guinea pigs, the condition can cause skin issues and painful joint and dental problems. Although the fresh fruit and vegetables are important, take care not feed too much fruit as we don’t want them getting diabetes.

Have a wonderful summer! You could always join in with a bit of ‘Pronking’ yourself if it’s not too hot. If you are ever concerned about your pet always consult your veterinarian, it’s a good idea to have an annual check up to ensure that your pet is fit and healthy.

the butterfly loving Verbena bonanariensis and the ever popular perennial Geraniums. Hostas are good for a shady spot with their coloured foliage, watch out for the slugs though, especially if the ground is damp. Now is a good time to add new plants to your pond. There’s a good selection of marginal and deep water plants available. Keep marginals on a ledge at the edges of the pool and not too deep – Iris, Caltha, Primulas and Bulrushes are all good examples. For the middle/ deeper parts of the pool water lilies are good and can give good protection for any fish you have in the pool. Most plants come ready planted in aquatic pots so just need placing into the pool. Don’t forget marginals need not be planted in the pool – if you have a damp, boggy area plants like Iris, Primulas and Lobelias will all grow happily.

As we move from June into July and August there’s still time to plant larger pots of Geraniums, Fuchsias, Cosmos and Dahlias to fill in any gaps in borders. Water to get established and feed on a weekly basis. Dead head regularly and you’ll have colour through to the first autumn frosts, which hopefully will be late starting. Hanging Baskets need liquid feeding weekly - even with the slow release fertilizers added to composts, you’ll see the extra benefits from liquid feed. Baskets soon dry out especially when they’re sheltered from rain at the side of a house so watering morning and night in very warm weather is a must.

For new potatoes in October, or at Christmas, plant seed potatoes in tubs in July and August. Growth will finish in October, leave the tubers in their pots until required for cooking. Remember they’ll need frost protection once the winter frosts appear in November and December.

Keep sowing or planting salad crops such as lettuce, spinach, spring onions and radish in the veg patch to get a continuous harvest. Use very fine netting to cover cabbages, cauliflowers, carrots and other particularly susceptible vegetables against flies, pigeons and butterflies. Harvest peas and runner beans regularly whilst they are young and tender, freeze any spares for home grown vegetables during the winter months. Keep beans and peas moist and spray over the foliage to encourage pods to set.

To complete another gardening cycle or start a new one depending on how you look at it the spring flowering bulbs will be appearing in Garden Centre’s from the end of August! If you want Hyacinths in flower for Christmas, they must be planted and put into a dark cool place in September. Most varieties require an 8-10 week cool period followed by 2-3 weeks of warmer conditions to bring them into flower. Use a compost specifically for bulbs as it will contain charcoal to keep the soil sweet.

investments are falling in value – should i move into cash until the markets recover? they are doing the right thing. Especially in these times, it’s unlikely to be helpful if you check your portfolio every day or even every week. We know that investments go up and down in value each day. Checking your investments too often could increase your stress levels and you may end making the wrong decision.

Stock markets always moved through cycles of up and down, and we are in the middle of a down period right now. Investors can be tempted to sell their investments and wait until the market recover. Is this the right thing to do? Moving your investments into cash is not a great idea. The first issue is that cash is being severely eroded by inflation currently. And if you do move to cash, how do you decide when to go back into the market – There is no early warning system telling investors when to move to cash or when it is safe to invest again.

Inflation, the hidden killer of cash Cash investors are suffering the effects of inflation resulting in a devaluation of around 7% in value over the last 12 months (April 2021 to April 2022). And the Bank of England have warned that inflation is not going to be resolved quickly. Once money devalues, it devalues forever and is unlikely to recover its value especially in a low interest rate period.

Investors and financial advisers alike do not have a crystal ball. No one can time the market and the decision to sell and move into cash is seriously affected by the investor’s emotions in the moment. Fear leads to selling and moving to cash when it may not be the most rational course of action. Only hindsight will tell us if we made the correct decision.

A balanced investment portfolio is currently around break even from 1 year ago. In effect most investors will have lost last year’s growth. Unless you are withdrawing income from your investments, you will still own the same investments and the same number of shares as you did a year ago. When the markets recover, the value of investments will rise again and recover the current paper losses. And every time the markets have fallen in the past, investment values have recovered.

Here are my tips on how to cope with a fall in the value of your investments. Hold or sell to cash? When the markets fall, try not to look at the values too often. The truth is no one likes to lose money. A falling stock market can make even the most experienced investor question whether

Understanding how the markets have recovered in the past, is the best way to sleep at night during periods of market volatility. estate planning Estate planning is the process of anticipating and arranging, during a person’s life, for the management and disposal of that person’s estate during the person’s life, in the event the person becomes incapacitated and after death.

Choose your burial preference – Whether you prefer burial or cremation your Will is your opportunity to set out your preference. If you prefer cremation you can set out where you would like your ashes scattered. If you have secured a burial plot you can specify where you want to be buried.

What is an ‘estate’

Protect your children – If you have children, it is likely you will want to name someone to act as guardian. If you do not name a guardian then the government may get involved and your wishes may not be followed. Always secure the agreement of anyone named to act as a guardian before committing it to your Will.

Your estate consists of everything you own, for example your car, home, other property, savings accounts and investments, life insurance, furniture and antiquities and other personal possessions. Good estate planning involves planning in advance of death by naming the people or organisations e.g. charities that you may want to receive some of your estate after you die. Planning early can make it easier to carry out your plan later.

Distributing your estate to your children – You can set out specific assets or gifts of money which you want to leave to specific children. Protecting your grandchildren – By having a Will you can ensure that your estate can be distributed to your grandchildren in the event that your children die before you.

What is a Will? A Will is a legal document in which a person (known as the testator) directs how his or her estate is distributed after their death.

Protecting the family business, antiquities and heirlooms - A family business or heirloom may not be able to stay in your family if you were to die, and it may be necessary to liquidate the assets.

Making a will is the only way to be certain that your wishes will be met after you die, meaning it is one of the most important things you can do.

When there is something of significant value like a business or antiques it is so important to plan ahead to avoid potential conflicts.

Wills and estate planning can be broken down into four elements: - Writing a Will, making executors, family members and friends aware of it.

Your beneficiaries – Without a Will, you will be unable to specify which person(s) will benefit (beneficiaries) or persons to exclude from your estate.

- Make a comprehensive list of your assets and any debts. This should include your property assets, material assets savings and investments which you will leave behind.

Inheritance tax It is, however, important to remember that estates worth over £325,000 are subject to inheritance tax. Inheritance tax applies to property, possessions and other financial assets left after you die.

- Planning and/or recording cash gifts you plan to give to protect against inheritance tax. - Making provision for funeral expenses and outlining your wishes so that family and friends can make arrangements accordingly. Benefits of a Will

volvo s 90 If you are in the market place to buy a large executive car, in all probability you think of the German brands, BMW, Audi, or Mercedes. It is a certain fact that other manufacturers have tried to muscle in to this market but these three have kept it quite close to home. Yes, you could add in to the equation if you wanted to, Land Rover, and Range Rover, but executive cars have been the forte of these three for sometime, writes Bob Hickman.

One of the highlights of the S 90 is the interior, the rear seats even for taller adults are sumptuous and comfortable, the front seats are like sitting in business class on an airline, they are so comfortable, they really are wonderful and with a multitude of assistance and adjustments for both driver and passenger it is possible for anyone to get themselves comfortable. It is very plush-like, the wonderful Bowers and Wilkins stereo is a marvel. The various other interior features and equipment take sometime to understand the complexity of operation to get the full benefit.

However there is another manufacturer that you may not have considered, and that is Volvo, the S 90 is a full size executive car and it is somewhat different from the mainstream boxy shaped Volvo estate and large SUV’s that we have come to know over the years. Of course Volvo has changed hands and the huge investment by the Chinese has taken Volvo in to a new arena.

Being a Volvo there is a plethora of safety features, sadly for me the features in most modern cars are starting to detract from the overall enjoyment of being a driver, the City Safe, Pilot Assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control, lane mitigation, run off protection, automatic features that are incorporated are, yes, brilliant, but they do take away a little of the actual driver input into actually driving and enjoying the vehicle.

The S 90 is a very powerful hybrid with over 450bhp, this gives phenomenal performance, for example 0-60 in marginally over 4.5 seconds and for a vehicle of this size and stature that is quite incredible. The top speed is restricted to 112mph but that is a feature that is unique to Volvo and their safety factors.

It is a big car, and the front and rear sensors are extremely useful, so is the power operated boot lid and the handsfree method of opening and closing same. The air conditioning 2-zone climate control was a wonderful feature and externally with the 19” alloy wheels this Volvo S 90 does proclaim that it is exactly what it says on the box an executive saloon.

With the Volvo hybrid the power can be utilised from both petrol and electronic usage, they work together. There are choices to be made within these particular facets, 2 power sources both cut in and out, they both have a common 4-wheel drive system and a setting that will let it run on battery power only, but the range is extremely minimal. This hybrid is designed to assist the petrol engine.

The Volvo as tested including all the various options comes out at a hefty £62,840.

The interior of the S 90 is one that if you are a Volvo person or looked at a Volvo, you will would be conversant with what it includes within the layout. The 9” central console touchscreen operates an awful amount of the equipment that is included within the vehicle, in front of the steering wheel is another binnacle that promotes another huge display screen.

nissan qashqai tekna The Nissan Qashqai has been around for quite a number of years but now there is a new model and it has a few decent updates, writes Bob Hickman.

vehicle very much an easy vehicle to drive. The steering was light and responsive with good feed back, although as previously mentioned the 20” alloy wheels can just add to just a little bit of extra noise but only on motorways, but not sufficient to get concerned about it.

Externally it has a redesigned front end the grille is more aggressive, dare I say, the huge 20” alloy wheels equipped on my top of the range model really do look stunning but they do tend to lend a little bit uncertainty in ride quality. LED headlights have also been incorporated so not too much in the way of a makeover, but sufficient to make it look refreshing and a car for the 2020 era.

The engine on the Tekna test car was a 1332cc which produces quite a hefty 158ps, sufficient to give a 0-60mph in 9 and a bit seconds and a top speed where legal of course of 128mph. During my week on varied 390 miles test drive I achieved 38mpg, which for a vehicle of this size I don’t think it is not too unrealistic, although somewhat under the 43.6mpg that Nissan suggest that could be achievable. The CO2 figure sadly is a little on the high side at 146.

The interior has been re-vamped and certainly in my particular test car the level of specifications was quite high and it certainly stands out for a credit mark. To move with the times Nissan has equipped the Qashqai with very, very good infotainment systems. There are 2 screens, one is a driver’s display immediately in front of you and the second a 9” touchscreen that we have become used to now. Most, if not all the controls, were easy, user friendly and the 9” touchscreen was responsive to the touch.

The driving perspective with the 6-speed manual gearbox was of a good companion that was always willing and able to give exactly that you would expect from a vehicle of the Nissan Qashqai pedigree. The on the road price of the Tekna was £34,175, the rather nice ceramic grey paintwork added £745 and the extra again for the roof contrasting paint, was another £400, so the test car cost £35,320.

Interior space is excellent and certainly there is plenty of room in the front but more importantly for people rear passenger room is quite good. On a plus side it is pleasing to note the boot is on the large size and of course if you do need to move a lot of equipment you can drop the seats and create almost van-like issues. I like the driving position in the Qashqai, it being the era of SUV’s it sits quite high and it does improve visibility all round. There is lots of adjustment for the driver’s seat and also the steering column, so most shapes and sizes should be able to find a comfortable position. You have to expect that the Qashqai is on the larger size but you shouldn’t really have any issues when you come to park it, there is an all around camera set up on the test car and you can quite easily utilise this to enable you to park safely. The features of blind spot assistance, Adaptive Cruise Control make the
