start with a thoughtful reset
Before diving into new purchases, take time to assess your home with a critical eye. A room-by-room audit helps identify what still works and what feels tired or impractical. Consider where you spend most of your time and where small changes could make the biggest impact. Sometimes, improving lighting or rethinking layout can be more transformative than a full redesign.
Rather than chasing individual trends, define how you want your home to feel this season. Think in terms of atmosphere, lighter, calmer, more playful or more connected to the outdoors. This season’s palette is rooted in nature but elevated with expressive twists. Teal leads the way as a rich, calming tone that works beautifully on feature walls or upholstered pieces. Alongside it, earthy shades - I love olive greens, ochres, muted blues and deep plums - bring depth without overwhelming a space.
Softer tones also play a key role. Think butter yellow, pistachio green and gentle coral, optimistic hues that reflect the warmth of the season. Meanwhile, mellow reds with subtle lilac undertones add sophistication without the intensity of brighter shades.
For a balanced look, aim for a mix of neutrals, main colours and a single accent. If you’re feeling bold, colour drenching, painting walls, ceilings and woodwork in one shade, creates an immersive, contemporary effect. For a subtler update, introduce colour through cushions, ceramics or smaller painted pieces.

natural materials take centre stage
Texture is just as important as colour this season. Interiors are becoming more tactile, with an emphasis on natural fibres and handcrafted finishes. Linen, cotton, jute and bamboo bring softness and authenticity, while materials like stone and reclaimed wood add grounding elements. There’s also a growing appreciation for imperfection. Hand-thrown ceramics, woven textiles and artisanal pieces introduce character and tell a story. Layering these textures, combining smooth surfaces with rougher, organic ones creates depth and warmth. I saw lots of these amazing pieces at London design week and was so excited to start introducing these textured tactile fabrics into my 2026 projects.
Don’t overlook unexpected surfaces. Rugs are becoming statement pieces in their own right, while ceilings and lighting are increasingly used as design features. A sculptural pendant or textured ceiling detail can completely transform how a room feels.
flexible living, sculptural style
Furniture in 2026 leans toward bold, sculptural forms that double as functional pieces. Oversized sofas and curved armchairs create inviting focal points, while modular designs offer flexibility for modern living. As homes continue to serve multiple purposes, adaptability is key; think extendable tables, storage-integrated seating and layouts that shift throughout the day.
Lighting plays a central role in this flexibility. Layering ambient and accent lighting allows a room to transition from day to night. Statement fixtures draw the eye upward, helping spaces feel larger and more open.

Biophilic design remains a defining influence this season. Incorporating plants, natural light and organic shapes helps create calming, restorative environments. Large leafy plants make an impact, while smaller pots can be grouped on shelves or tables for a softer effect.
Sustainability also underpins many design choices. Reclaimed materials, locally sourced items, and longlasting pieces contribute to a more mindful approach to decorating. Beyond aesthetics, there’s a growing focus on wellbeing - spaces designed for rest, reflection and balance, whether that’s a cosy reading corner or a simple indoor garden.
a touch of maximalism
While natural simplicity dominates, there’s also room for personality. Pattern and colour are being used more confidently, with geometric prints, abstract designs, and retro influences making a return. The key is curation rather than clutter choosing pieces that feel meaningful rather than purely decorative.
Statement walls, whether through wallpaper, paint, or texture, offer a way to experiment without overwhelming a space. Hallways, dining rooms, or smaller areas are perfect for bolder choices, balanced by calmer tones elsewhere. vintage football programmes ‘score’ at auction
Vintage football programmes proved a big hit with collectors when they went under the hammer in the recent Specialist Collectors Auction at Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones.
Featuring a carefully curated selection of pre-war and post-war matchday programmes, the football memorabilia section attracted strong interest from bidders both in the room and online – with several historic examples achieving impressive prices.
Leading the lineup was Lot 109 – a 1921 FA Cup Final programme for the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers, played at Stamford Bridge on 23rd April 1921. The programme, made even more desirable thanks to being autographed by the entire Tottenham Hotspur team along with the manager, sold for an impressive £1,400.
Another standout lot was a programme from arguably football’s most famous match – the 1966 World Cup Final between England and West Germany. Rich in historical associations, the lot included signatures from manager Alf
Ramsey and ten of the England players who featured in the final, alongside a signed photograph and House of Lords letter from then Prime Minister Harold Wilson, as well as a signed image of legendary commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme. It sold for £750.
Early league football was also well represented in the sale. A West Bromwich Albion v Oldham Athletic programme from the 1921/22 season sold for £170, while a Sunderland v Wolverhampton Wanderers programme from the 1936/37 season achieved £160, further demonstrating the enduring appeal of early matchday memorabilia among collectors.

flea and tick season: what you need to know for summer walks
As the warmer weather arrives, so does flea and tick season. These pesky parasites become far more active during spring and summer, making it especially important to keep an eye on your pets while they enjoy their outdoor adventures.
Fleas are tiny but can cause big problems. Their bites cause itching and discomfort, and in severe cases, can lead to skin infections or allergic reactions. Ticks are equally concerning, as they attach firmly to the skin and feed on your pet’s blood. Even worse, ticks can transmit serious diseases such as Lyme disease, which affects both pets and humans.
Ticks are mostly found in long grass, woodland areas, and dense undergrowth. If your dog loves to run through fields or tall grass during your summer walks, they are at a higher risk of picking up ticks. It’s important to check your dog carefully after every walk, paying special attention to hidden areas like behind the ears, under the collar, between the toes, and around the tail.
Preventative treatments are your best defence. Flea and
tick treatments are available from your vet, but some local pet shops, such as Pet Stop in Codsall, also stock a wide range of options including spot-on treatments, collars, and oral medications. They often carry useful accessories like tick removers too, making it easy to manage these parasites at home.
Keeping your outdoor spaces well-maintained can also help minimize areas where ticks might thrive, making your home safer for both pets and family.
By staying vigilant during flea and tick season, you can help your dog enjoy those summer walks safely and comfortably. If you notice any signs of flea infestation such as excessive scratching, hair loss, or visible fleas, or if you find a tick attached to your pet, it’s important to act quickly by using appropriate treatments and seek advice from professionals if needed.

The expanding world of veterinary medicine can seem overwhelming, even to someone who has worked in the profession for 19 years. During that time, I’ve seen enormous improvements in patient care, driven in no small part by a shift towards evidence-based medicine. We no longer treat conditions simply because “that’s how it’s always been done”, but instead use data and research to guide us towards the most effective options.
However, this approach can also introduce complexity and cost. With more diagnostic tools and treatment choices available than ever, the real art of veterinary medicine lies in knowing when advanced investigations or procedures will genuinely benefit a patient, and when simpler, pragmatic options are appropriate.
This balance has been highlighted in the recent Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) review of
the veterinary sector. Around 60% of UK practices are now owned by a small number of corporate groups, and many clients are unaware of who owns their practice or how this may affect them.
For me, one of the advantages of independent practice is the freedom to tailor care to each patient and client. At Connaught House, we felt so strongly about this that we became an employee-owned trust last year, helping to ensure decisions remain focused on what is most appropriate for you and your pet for years to come. CURED THE DUCK
Mix the sugar and salt together and rub into the duck breasts ensuring complete coverage of all surfaces. Place on a tray and cover tightly with cling film. Refrigerate for 3 days then rinse in cold water.
MAKE THE COTTAGE CHEESE
Heat the milk gently to 90oC, don’t let it boil.
SPLIT THE MILK
Take the milk off the heat and stir in the vinegar. You’ll see the milk separate into curds (white lumps) and whey (yellow liquid)
STRAIN
Pour into a sieve lined with muslin or a clean cloth and let it drain for 8 minutes. Leave it longer for drier curds.
RINSE
Lightly rinse the curds under cold running water to remove the acidity.
FINISH
Add the curds to the mixing bowl and add the salt and cream if you have it.
SERVE
Slice the duck breast as thinly as possible, toast the bread lightly and spoon some cottage cheese on then slices of duck ham and thinly sliced pickled shallot. Finish with cracked black pepper, a few thyme leaves and a drizzle of olive oil.

INGREDIENTS:
PANNA COTTA
600ml of double cream
150ml of full fat milk
90g of honey
1.5 tsp of vanilla extract
3 titanium gelatine leaves (6g total)
ROASTED PLUMS
6 plums
1.5 tbsp of honey
1.5 tbsp of caster sugar
15g of butter
Few thyme leaves
EQUIPMENT:
6 panna cotta moulds or glasses
Measuring jug
Scales
Measuring spoons Pans
Roasting tray Bowl
METHOD:
SOAK THE GELATINE
Soak the leaves in cold water for 15 minutes. MAKE THE BASE
Warm the cream, milk, honey and vanilla gently - don’t allow to boil. Squeeze the gelatine, take the cream off the heat and stir in the gelatine in until dissolved. SET
Pour the cream mix into moulds or glasses and chill overnight night. Once set it should have a slight wobble.
ROAST THE PLUMS
Cut the plums in half around the stone and carefully remove the stone. Gently heat the honey, sugar and butter on a low heat so it is pourable. Toss the plums in the honey and butter mix, lay on a tray and roast at 180oC for about 15 minutes. They should be glossy and slightly caramelised. Check halfway through the cooking time.
SERVE
Turn the panna cotta out onto your plates or serve in the glass. Spoon the plums neatly to the side and drizzle with the plum juices (still warm). Finish with a few thyme leaves.

Royston marked his birthday in true style at one of Yorkshire’s poshest hotels, Grantley Hall. Recently featured on Channel 5, the five-star luxury estate remains a firm favourite. The programme offered viewers a glimpse into the grandeur of the property, its dedicated team and its distinguished guests - among them, Nick and Royston, who appeared in the second episode featuring their Halesowen party last year.
Joining the celebrations were close friends Joanne and Malcolm Bridgwood, along with Julie and Roy Millard. The group indulged in the hotel’s many offerings, including its award-winning spa, creating a weekend filled with elegance, relaxation and lasting memories.

Filming the 20th series of The Real Housewives of Cheshire (RHOC) has kept the pair busy. This series features a happy and emotional farewell celebration for Seema, who is relocating overseas. The party was held at the stunning Peckforton Castle in Tarporley and the event brought together the cast to mark the end of an era.
After a decade of shared highs and lows, Seema’s departure was met with heartfelt goodbyes - particularly from Nick and Royston who will miss her dearly. Here’s hoping for a reunion in the near future.

Rounding off the season’s highlights, Nick and Royston joined Lauren Simon and fellow cast members of RHOC in North Wales to celebrate the launch of her new beachwear collection. FascinatingFort Worth,Texas, ‘where the West begins’

Texas is the second largest American state by area and population, and Fort Worth is known as the place ‘where the West begins’. Open-range cattle drives took place during the 19th century when more than 10 million head of cattle were herded along the Chisholm Trail, named after Jesse Chisholm who established a wagon route in 1864. Following the American Civil War, the Chisholm Trail enabled the mass movement of cattle from southern Texas, through the Red River into Indian Territory and onto Kansas.
Today Fort Worth, known as ‘Cowtown’, attracts 9.4 million visitors annually and on arrival and bursting with enthusiasm I headed for the luxurious Crescent Hotel located on Camp Bowie Boulevard. Recipient of the 2024 Condé Nast Traveller’s Reader’s Choice Award for the No. 1 Hotel in Texas and a 2025 Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award, the property sits at the crossroads of downtown and the vibrant Cultural District.
Check-in procedures were swift and efficient and my luggage was whisked away in a jiffy. I was escorted to a luxurious one bedroom metropolitan suite measuring 717sq.ft. Features include floor to ceiling windows flooding the separate living room with natural light. I was delighted to make use of a Nespresso coffee machine and as I sank into the plump sofa I felt at home in an instant.
Keen to take advantage of the Crescent Hotel’s spa I made my way post haste to the tranquillity of the Canyon Ranch, which covers 11,000 square feet and includes steam and treatment rooms, steam showers and a plush private seating area. The opportunity to relax in the steam room was my first priority and after spending quite some time in the warm and soothing waters of the Jacuzzi I whiled

away more time in the luxuriant relaxation room. I was then guided to an opulent and spacious salon for my first class manicure and pedicure. Feeling suitably preened and deeply pampered I was ushered into an exquisite massage room and my first rate masseur ensured that all the stresses and tensions of my long journey vanished. Feeling at ease amid the soothing aromas of the essential oils and the gentle strains of the surrounding music my energy was restored and I was ready to explore the city.
For a taste of Texan culture and Fort Worth’s rich Western heritage I headed for the Cowtown Coliseum to attend a stunning performance of the Stockyard’s Championship Rodeo at the home of the world’s first indoor rodeo. The only year-round rodeo in the world highlights this competitive, timed sport, which includes bull and ‘bronc’ riding, bareback and ranch saddle riding, roping contests and barrel racing. The sound of thunderous hooves and the sight of a magnificent bull bursting out of his holding pen with a very unwelcome rider on his back is overwhelming and the power of the beast determined to buck the equally determined rider off before he can reach his target of eight seconds is absolutely exhilarating. I was simply mesmerised by the extraordinary spectacle and cheered loudly along with the adoring crowd.
The following morning I was up with the larks, and after indulging in an extravagant breakfast in Emilia’s, the Crescent hotel’s comfortable and contemporary restaurant, I made my way to Main Street in Fort Worth’s downtown Sundance Square; the site of the Sid Richardson Museum, which exhibits paintings by the premier Western artists, Frederic Remington (1861 to 1909) and Charles M. Russell (1864-1926), providing the viewing public with an insight into the past. The collection, which reflects the harsh realities and romantic narrative of the American West, is the legacy of the late Texan oilman and philanthropist Sid Williams Richardson (1891 to 1959). I was most fortunate to view Remington’s 1908 oil on canvas entitled Apache Medicine Song. Remington’s talent for capturing a scene so full of life and movement, whilst focusing on light, colour and mood is clear. Another mesmerising work is entitled When White Men Turn Red and was painted in 1922 by Charles M Russell. Reflecting the artist’s late work in oils and his use of vibrant colours, this piece is another example of the past brought to life.
Back at the Crescent hotel and following a late afternoon snooze I decided to squeeze into my not-so-little black dress and dine in style and I headed out to The Mont restaurant, located on Saint Amand Circle in Fort Worth’s Montserrat district. This impressive venue reflects the glamour of the 1950’s with diners surrounded by soothing mahogany and the comfort of plush leather and in the centre of the space is a striking bar with a bevy of tenders creating the most extravagant selection of cocktails. I ordered the succulent and tender Wagyu Short Rib, presented with potato and truffle pave and the most delicious sauce bordelaise. Accompanied by the Plumpjack Merlot this was a dining experience to savour and of course the service, as expected, was exceptional.
Seeking a casual spot to show off some sharp dance moves, I headed for Billy Bob’s, the largest ‘honky tonk’ in the world, which is located at Rodeo Plaza, in the heart of Fort Worth’s Stockyards. This very popular venue offers a wide range of entertainment including ‘live’ concerts, bull riding (on a smaller scale to the Cowtown Coliseum), line dancing, pool tables and bars aplenty and I am not ashamed to reveal that after a couple of ‘shots’ I attempted my own version of line dancing and I might just have got away with it!
For my last day in Fort Worth I headed back to the Stockyards, which in 1976, was listed on the National Register as a historical district. I viewed the Stockyard’s daily cattle drive which takes place along Exchange Avenue at 11.30 and 16.00 hrs. This spectacular parade of Texas Longhorns herded by several drovers on horseback reflects the area’s history as an important livestock centre due to the arrival of railroads in 1876. In just over thirty years later the Stockyards sold a million cattle each year but in the 1950’s livestock auctions were held closer to where the cattle were produced. After the parade I spotted an enormous bull, which was clearly tame, waiting patiently outside the Livestock Exchange Building and enthusiastic members of the public were queuing to get on his back. However, I was not one of them!
Instead, I made my way to the Stockyards Museum, located inside the Livestock Exchange Building which dates back to 1866. The museum showcases the rich history of the Fort Worth Stockyards and many of the exhibits focus on Native American connections and the Chisholm Trail. I was fascinated by the American Indian artefacts related to the Comanche and Kiowa tribes, known to frequent the area along the Trinity River. An elaborate feathered head dress and a fur head dress complete with horns had me spellbound. There is also a collection of saddles, cowboy boots, hand guns, hats and outlaw ‘wanted dead or alive’ posters, including Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, immortalised by the 1969 movie starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Another interesting exhibit is the 1949 Silver Spur Award presented to the actor John Wayne for his work in the movies Red River and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.

For my last evening in Fort Worth I headed to Panther City BBQ, located on East Hattie Street. This very popular casual restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere and I found a comfy perch and ordered the delicious Panther Punch cocktail, which has a champagne and vodka base. The tempting aromas emanating from the sizzling meats on the on-site smoker drifted subtly across the venue and I opted for the succulent brisket, with a side of dill potato salad. I was easily persuaded to try the ‘nutter butter’ cheesecake pudding and as my visit to Fort Worth came to a close I ordered another cocktail, raised my glass high and made a toast to this fascinating city.

We meet so many couples and their families along the journey of planning your wedding flowers. This couple, we will never forget. They had many sentimental items and flowers with specific meanings that we discussed during the planning stages. It was lovely to see it all come together. It touched our hearts. The venue chosen was ‘The Mill Barns’, located near Bridgnorth which lends itself to be styled to reflect the couple. Vaulted ceilings with solid wood beams and large windows letting in masses of light, allowed all the colours within the designs to come to life.
The brief was natural, rustic and wild flowers. We selected the colour range with the couple during our colour match meeting and it was clear that we had to include Forget-Me-Knots which had a very special family meaning.
The couples favourite florals were Hydrangea, Amnesia roses and lilac Eustoma. Other florals and foliages were added that complemented their favourite selections and added the range of colours that they loved.
The bride asked us also to include a selection of artificial flowers from her Mom’s bouquet that had been kept safe. They had so much meaning and they looked great within her selection.
We always stand back and admire our Moon gate in the ceremony room at ‘The Mill Barns’. It works so well there and then we move it to behind the sweetheart table after the ceremony. A great example of double using your flowers for maximum impact.

the £2.5 million threshold: a new reality for business owners
Following my article last month about Inheritance Tax, there is a number that will begin to matter far more to business owners from 6 April 2026. And whilst it is not going to affect every business owner, it will affect many. It is not turnover. It is not profit. It is not even valuation in the way most owners think about it. It is £2.5 million.
Until now, Business Property Relief has allowed many privately owned trading businesses to pass from one generation to the next with little or no inheritance tax. For decades, that has shaped how owners think about succession, building the business to eventually pass it on.
From April 2026, that assumption will have to shift.
The first £2.5 million of qualifying business value will still benefit from full relief (£5 million if the business is owned by a husband and wife). Beyond that, the position changes. Value above this threshold will, in effect, be exposed to inheritance tax at 20 percent. Many owners will instinctively feel that a partial tax charge is manageable. After all, this is a tax on success and a sign that the business has done well.
The difficulty is not the tax itself. It is the form in which wealth exists.
A business worth £3 million may generate a modest tax bill. At £5 million, the number becomes more noticeable.
At £10 million the figures move into territory that demands attention. Yet in almost every case, that value is not held in cash. It sits inside the company. Locked within and being reinvested into growth, staff, premises and opportunity. Inheritance tax does not recognise that distinction. It is calculated on value, but it is paid in cash.
This is where the conversation changes.
When an owner dies, the responsibility for settling the tax falls to the estate. The executors must account to HMRC within a defined timeframe. Probate cannot be completed without addressing the liability. The estate, however, rarely holds sufficient liquid assets to meet a substantial bill.
At that point, the business will have to become part of the solution. Even where a company is trading well, profitable and stable, the need to extract extra cash introduces a new problem. Dividends may need to be paid to the estate. Borrowing may be considered, secured against the strength of the company.
In some cases, the tax can be paid over a number of years, easing the immediate burden but not removing it. Each of these routes has consequences.
Cash that might otherwise have been reinvested is diverted and plans for expansion may have to be reconsidered. The business, in effect, acquires a second purpose. It is no
longer operating solely for growth or long-term strategy. It is also servicing a tax liability.
The change comes at a time that is already challenging. Decisions will fall to family members, fellow directors or successors who may not have expected to have to account for the tax. The business may continue to trade successfully and even thrive, however the a significant tax obligation could prove very challenging.
The question is not whether a business will attract inheritance tax under the new rules. For many, it will. The more important question is how that tax will be funded in practice. If the owner were no longer here, where would the cash come from?
This is where planning will become essential. For some, the answer will involve restructuring ownership and for others, it may require building liquidity alongside value. In certain cases, it will mean accepting that part of the business may ultimately have to be sold but doing so on their own terms rather than under pressure.
For non-trading businesses such as residential property held within a limited company, the tax situation is even more extreme. There will be no Business Relief on the first £2.5 million and the total value will be taxed at 40% and not 20%.
What is clear is that the landscape is changing. The longheld confidence that a trading business will pass free of inheritance tax is no longer as certain as it once was. The £2.5 million threshold introduces a new layer of complexity, particularly for those who have spent years or decades building successful enterprises.
From 6 April 2026 onwards, getting proper financial planning advice in this area will be essential.

There can be few cars that can blend charm, agility, and personality quite like the Mini Cooper, the modern Mini keeps its heritage alive while adding refinement and technology that classic owners could only dream of. Writes Bob Hickman.
Under the bonnet sits a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder engine producing around 156 bhp. The three-cylinder engine has a distinctive sound and a surprising turn of power when revved. Acceleration is brisk, overtakes feel confident, and the car is happiest darting between gears on a winding road. It’s light, responsive, and always ready to play. A claimed top speed of 140mph and a 0-60 gallop in 7 seconds is very commendable, Mini suggest a combined figure of 46.3mpg, sadly the computer suggested I only achieved 39.9 mpg during 300 miles of very varied driving situations.
My test car had an automatic DCT transmission and normally I love automatics but, on this occasion, I would have preferred a manual, so I could experience the driving experience more.
The ride is firm, especially on larger wheels, but never harsh enough to spoil the experience. If you enjoy driving, the Cooper rewards you every time you pick up speed.
The Cooper turns into corners with a level of precision more commonly found in hot hatches. Steering is quick and accurate, giving you real confidence when pushing through bends.
Body roll is minimal, grip is strong, and the car feels planted and agile, more like a scaled-down sports car than a city hatchback.
Inside you’re met with a premium cabin. The huge central display, and circular design elements give the Mini a distinctive look compared with the sensible cabins of most rivals. The central display takes some getting used to, however the graphics are clear and easy to understand, the Apple play mapping was a delight of colour and information.
Build quality is solid, materials feel upmarket, and the driving position proved to be excellent with good visibility, on my test car a heads-up display was incorporated and this is a very useful feature.
Space, however, is not its strongest selling point. The back seats are tight, boot space is modest and adults will rebel if asked to travel a lengthy journey in the rear, if you are a couple or have young children then the rear aspect will not concern you.
As with all manufacturers depending on the model you choose the trim you get will vary.
My test car had Smartphone connectivity and wireless charging. Digital dials, advanced safety systems, some of which can be disconnected, e.g. Lane departure mode. It also was equipped with interior ambient lighting that was customisable. Another gimmick was, in the dark the mini logo was displayed on the floor with a light transferred from the door mirrors, whilst mentioning the door mirrors I found when I locked the car by pressing the remote key button and holding it in for a few seconds the door mirrors folded in.
The Mini Cooper remains one of the most fun-to-drive small cars on sale. It blends character, sharp handling, premium quality and a genuinely joyful driving experience
It is all wrapped in a package that stands out from everything else on the road.
It’s not the most practical choice, and the ride may feel firm to some, but if you want a car that makes every journey feel special, the Mini Cooper 1.5 is hard to beat.
My particular test car had an on the road price of £32,565.

The BMW 420i M Sport Coupe is a car that makes a statement, it’s a stylish coupe that stands out as a beacon of performance and elegance. It successfully blends advanced engineering with BMW styling, that delivers an exhilarating driving experience to captivate its occupants, writes Bob Hickman.
From the moment you lay eyes on the BMW 420i M Sport Coupe, it’s clear that this is a car designed for performance. The elongated silhouette, characterised by sharp lines and a sporty stance, commands attention on the road.
The Coupe has lots of lovely materials and feel-good fabrics. All models are well-equipped although the jury is out on the blue and red striping on the seats. The interior is very BMW, the control wheel is back on the transmission tunnel, the controls easy to understand, the huge infotainment screen gives clear and easily understood graphics. The Apple car play and Android auto work together with BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant. In theory, this works a bit like Alexa.
Being a coupe design, rear passenger space is at a premium, access for those passengers is a little awkward, whilst the doors are big, the car itself is very low and getting in and out would be problematic. The seats are supportive but I have to be honest I could not travel in the rear seats; there is a lack of head room due to the design. If you only want to drive and have a front passenger then great, or even if your rear passengers are children then the Coupe is a winner. The boot was more than adequate.
The engine in the test car was a lively 1998cc fourcylinder petrol, producing 181 bhp, sufficient for a 0-62 gallop in 7.5 seconds and a top speed claimed to be 149mph. Typically BMW power is sent to the rear wheels, communicative steering keeping you on the road. It’s very agile as you’d expect from BMW, with the rear-wheel-drive punching you out of bends and leaving the front wheels to handle the steering. You can actually have a lot of fun in this BMW 4 Series Coupe, although I did notice the odd bump in the road as the test car had been equipped with bigger 19-inch alloy wheels with ultra-low-profile tyres.

The basic vehicle was priced at £43,750. But the very nice people at BMW had added a comfort pack and also an M sport pack, this added a huge amount to the price, making my BMW C22 420i M sport Coupe on the road at £52,887.
