the spring 2026 stone aesthetic
Continues the love affair with organic modern decor, blending clean lines with nature-inspired elements.
This season, stone accessories are the key piece you can’t be without, and here’s why…
Ground light, airy interiors
Add quiet luxury without shine
Introduce texture instead of colour overload
Feel crafted, organic and timeless
Here are my top interior design tips for adding stone aesthetic into your home.
Stone lamps are anchor pieces in 2026 interiors. How to style them:
Place one stone lamp per zone (sideboard, bedside, console)
Pair with:
Linen or parchment shades
Warm bulbs (2700K max)
Let negative space surround the lamp - don’t crowd it
Spring Trick - Balance the visual weight
Stone lamp + light wood furniture
Stone lamp + sheer curtains or pale walls
vases: sculptural, even when empty
Spring 2026 favours vases as objects, not just flower holders.
How to use stone vases:
Style odd numbers (1 or 3 max)
Mix heights, but keep colour tones similar
Leave at least one vase empty for sculptural impact
Best florals for stone vases:
Single stem branches
Wildflowers
Dried grasses
Green stems only (eucalyptus, olive, willow)
Avoid tight bouquets - they clash with the organic look.
stone bowls: functional but elevated
Stone bowls are used as low, grounding elements.
Where they work best:
Coffee tables (centered or offset)
Kitchen islands
Dining tables (empty or with fruit)
Entry consoles
What to put inside (or not):
Leave empty for a gallery feel
A few natural objects only
Citrus
Pears
Stones
Wooden beads
No potpourri, no clutter.
We work across Perton, Tettenhall, Codsall, Wombourne, Hilton, Burnhill Green, Wightwick, Worfield, and all surrounding areas.

home stone jugs: the softest way to introduce stone
Stone jugs are perfect for spring because they feel:
Casual
Artisan
Mediterranean
Styling ideas:
On open shelves in kitchens
As bedside water jugs
With one loose stem on a dining table
Grouped with ceramics (not glass)
Stick to rounded forms rather than sharp angles this season.
What to avoid:
Too much glass nearby
High-gloss lacquer
Busy patterns next to stone pieces
The Golden Rule (Very 2026)
One meaningful stone piece is better than five small ones. Stone is about weight, calm and intention. Let each piece feel chosen, not styled.”

As the first signs of spring return to the garden, something magical begins to happen. From blackbirds and robins to blue tits and wrens, birds across the country are starting to build their nests — preparing for one of the busiest and most important times of their year. March marks the beginning of the UK’s nesting season, and whether you have a garden, balcony or shared green space, there are plenty of simple ways to lend a helping hand.
Spring often inspires us to tidy up our outdoor spaces, but during nesting season it’s best to resist this urge. Many birds choose to build their nests low in dense hedgerows or hidden within thick shrubs. Cutting back these areas too soon can destroy nests or disturb the birds at a critical time. It’s recommended to avoid trimming hedges and pruning shrubs from March through to August, giving birds the chance to raise their young undisturbed.
Providing natural nesting materials can also make a big difference. Birds gather twigs, moss, dry grass, and feathers to build cosy nests. You can help by leaving small piles of these materials around your garden. Even pet fur is appreciated, as long as it’s free from chemicals. Just be
careful to avoid anything synthetic such as string or wool, as these can entangle chicks.
For gardens or balconies lacking natural nesting spots, installing a bird box is a great solution. Choose one designed for local species and place it in a quiet, sheltered spot away from direct sunlight and strong winds. Positioning the box out of reach of predators and facing north or east can help keep it safe and comfortable.
Feeding birds throughout nesting season is important too. Raising chicks requires plenty of energy, so high-protein foods like suet, mealworms, and sunflower hearts can support adult birds during this busy time. Remember to keep feeders clean and provide fresh water in a shallow dish nearby.
By making a few simple changes, you can create a welcoming environment that helps birds thrive during nesting season. Watching fledglings take their first flight is one of spring’s greatest rewards — and something your garden can help bring to life.

Soft tissue surgery (STS) normally means any surgery not involving bones, or their tendons and ligaments (that’s orthopaedic surgery). It’s a definition that has always struck me as ironic, as tendons and ligaments are themselves defined as soft tissues. A lot of the surgeries we have carried out at Connaught House over the last year fall under the STS umbrella. From routine neutering and keyhole surgery to closed heart surgery, it all sits within this category.
While the basic tenets of surgery have remained unchanged since the late 19th century, there have been significant advancements in patient outcomes. Even within my own career (which, despite what our nurses may tell you, hasn’t quite reached two decades yet), there have been major improvements. Our patients now benefit not only from traditional hands on monitoring by the anaesthetist, but also from real time multiparameter monitoring, including blood pressure, capnography, pulse oximetry, temperature, and ECG

throughout a procedure.
Significant advancements have also been made in decision making prior to surgery. Improvements in imaging (particularly ultrasound and X-rays) and diagnostic testing mean we now have a much clearer picture of what is happening with our patients before surgery even begins. Being able to accurately map out a problem is invaluable, and in some cases this means surgery can be avoided altogether.
This topic is far broader than can be covered in a short article, so we have decided to continue the discussion at our next client evening at Codsall Village Hall on 26th March 2026. The evening will start at 7:00 pm and is open to both clients and non-clients. Expect some interesting surgical photographs and case studies, so it may not be one for those who prefer not to see surgical images. This is an RSVP event, simply so we can plan numbers in advance.

come fly with me – former raf engineer’s wish comes
true
A retired RAF engineer from Wolverhampton has had his dream of returning to the cockpit made a reality.
The team at Care UK’s Foxland Grange, on Wergs Road in Tettenhall, surprised resident David Barnes with a visit to RAF Cosford to see the planes he worked on up close once again.
After finding out about David’s career as an engineer and his desire to see aircrafts from more than 40 years ago, the care home team members worked closely with volunteers from RAF Museum Midlands to make his wish come true.
During the visit, David was treated to a tour of the jet collection, sharing stories from his past and proudly showing the team old photos of himself in uniform.
Commenting on the experience, 88-year-old David said: “The exhilaration of seeing planes again took me right back to my RAF days – I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was able to analyse some of the planes and see the different parts used that are much more advanced than the parts in my day.
“I was honoured to see a plane fly over me in my working days, knowing I had played a part in engineering the safety for the troops – the memories came flooding back. Foxland Grange has done me a great service in taking me to RAF Cosford, and I am very grateful for the time and effort put into the trip.”
David joined the air force at the age of 16 and served for 24 years. Although he spent 20 months flight training, he was never able to fly due to being colour blind.
However, this did not stop David from pursuing his passion for aviation; instead,, he joined the logistics team, where he was responsible for testing and organising all aircraft fuel.
Over the course of his successful career, David was stationed in London, then the Outer Hebrides off the west coast of Scotland and later Fontainebleau in France, where he worked for Nato.
He progressed rapidly through the ranks, achieving
corporal status and leading several teams. In 1976, he left the air force to relocate to West Sussex.
Katy Anderson, Home Manager at Foxland Grange, said: “We encourage residents to lead fulfilling lives, whether that comes from helping in the garden or flying down memory lane like David.
“As a veteran, the museum created a nostalgic experience for David. He loved touring the different types of aircraft and sharing stories from his fascinating past with the RAF. Everyone at the museum was impressed by his knowledge as he discussed the jets on display.
“We were thrilled to be able to help him fulfil his dream of seeing the planes once again. It was a joy to see the smile on his face as he held his cherished photo of himself in uniform.
“We look forward to making more wishes come true for the residents at Foxland Grange.”
David’s wish comes soon after Foxland Grange was awarded Veteran Friendly Framework status for its commitment to supporting the armed forces community. In achieving this, the home was required to meet eight standards, including noting armed forces status within care plans, addressing social isolation and signposting to support services such as the local Royal British Legion branch and other charities that provide help for veterans and their partners.
Foxland Grange provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care, in a luxury environment. Designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the home incorporates plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies, and has its own café, hair and beauty salon and gardens. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.

the hammer strikes back: star wars toys perform well at auction
It seems the force is still strong among Star Wars collectors, with a pair of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi toys putting in a strong performance at Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones’ recently.
Among the highlights was Lot 438, a Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Scout Walker Vehicle, complete with its original box, which marched its way to a hammer price of £100. Condition and originality remain key factors for collectors, and the presence of the original packaging helped ensure competitive bidding.
Even stronger results followed with Lot 439, a varied collection of boxed and carded Return of the Jedi toys, including the Hoth Rescue MTV-7, offered alongside a Star Trek Shuttlecraft Goddard mini playset. The eclectic grouping clearly appealed to sci-fi enthusiasts, with the lot achieving an impressive £550.
MD and head auctioneer, Ben Gamble, says:
“Vintage Star Wars collectables from the original trilogy continue to attract strong interest from bidders –and these lots were no exception. As early examples become more scarce, well-preserved toys from the late 1970s and 1980s are increasingly being viewed as serious collectables rather than playthings.”
Cuttlestones is now welcoming consignments for upcoming specialist and collectors’ sales. Anyone considering selling toys, collectables or pop-culture memorabilia is invited to get in touch for a free, no-obligation valuation via WhatsApp 07949 603872 or email valuations@cuttlestones.co.uk

learn to dance with ceroc
There’s a particular kind of magic that happens when you walk into a Ceroc night. The music’s already up, people are smiling like they mean it, and a friendly stranger offers you their hand like it’s the most normal thing in the world - because here, it is.
Ceroc (a modern partner dance) is brilliantly built for real life. You don’t need a partner, you don’t need experience, and you definitely don’t need to be the type of person who “goes dancing”. The class format gets you moving quickly: a short lesson, simple steps that actually work to the music, and then plenty of time to practise in a relaxed, social atmosphere. It feels like a night out - but you leave energised, not exhausted.
Ceroc Addiction is where that experience turns into a habit - the good kind. The vibe is upbeat, welcoming and a little bit buzzy: people rotate partners so no one is left out, newcomers are looked after, and the room feels like an instant community
rather than an intimidating dance scene. If you’re in the Midlands, you’ll spot Ceroc Addiction nights around Shifnal, Wolverhampton, Stafford and Shrewsbury - ideal if you want something more fun than another pub evening and more human than another night scrolling.
And March 2026 is a particularly easy time to give it a go. Let’s Dance - the national campaign founded by Angela Rippon and The One Show, is encouraging the UK to get moving, because dance supports health, wellbeing and connection. Ceroc is joining in with a simple offer: your first Ceroc class is free if you’re completely new. Turn up to a participating regular class night between Sunday 8 March to Friday 13 March 2026, and give the code “JUST DANCE ’26” at the door.
No pressure. No awkward hoops. Just show up, take a hand, and see what happens. Worst case: you’ve tried something new for a few hours. Best case: you’ve accidentally found your new favourite weeknight.
Find your local class at www.ceroc.com/ classes and give it a go.

small classes, big impact
At Newbridge Preparatory School our average class size is just 15 pupils. It is a number we are immensely proud of, because every day we see the difference that smaller classes make to children’s learning, confidence and wellbeing.
Recent research and real-world examples strongly support what we have always believed: when class sizes are reduced, children thrive. As highlighted in a recent TES case study of Shackleton Primary School in Bedford, reducing class sizes from 30 to 20 led to remarkable improvements in just one year. Teachers were able to interact more frequently with each child, identify needs earlier and give far more targeted support. The result was a dramatic rise in reading, writing, language and social development outcomes.
Our principle is simple. Smaller classes mean more highquality interactions. Teachers can spot misunderstandings quickly, adapt lessons immediately and ensure no child
is overlooked. This is particularly important at a time when many schools are reporting increasing numbers of children with speech and language delays, weaker fine motor skills and lower levels of independence on entry to school.
In a small class, there is time to really know every child – their strengths, their challenges and their individual learning style. More opportunities to respond, to practise, to ask questions and to receive feedback lead to faster progress and greater confidence. It also allows teachers to build stronger relationships with families, working in genuine partnership to support each child.
Education is not a one-size-fits-all process. Children develop at different rates and need different levels of support. Smaller classes give schools the flexibility to respond to those differences rather than simply manage them.
At Newbridge, we see every day that when children are known, valued and supported as individuals, they flourish. Small classes truly do make a big impact.

The Albanian Riviera, or Bregu, is the country’s crown jewel. This spectacular coastline is lined with pristine beaches, hidden coves, and dramatic mountain backdrops. For peaceful, picture -perfect scenery, Gjipe Beach is a standout - voted one of the world’s top 50 beaches, with remote white sands and towering cliffs. It’s a bit of a hike, but the tranquillity is unmatched.
For something livelier, the Ksamil Islands offer crystal-clear waters, easy -to-reach islets, and chic beach clubs like Principotes - delivering that barefoot-luxury feel you’d expect in Greece, but without the crowds (for now).
when to go
To experience Albania at its best, we recommend the shoulder seasons: April to June and September to October. Expect warm, sunny days, perfect for exploring and enjoying the outdoors, with fewer tourists and a more exclusive feel. For beach lovers and festival-goers, June to September brings peak sunshine and a vibrant summer atmosphere.
curated stays & unforgettable adventures
Beyond its beaches, Albania is full of culture and character. howdyy’all! welcome to dallas, texas, the usa’s lone star state
By Rebecca Underwood, Travel Journalist
Today, Dallas, is the ninth most populous city in America. During the 18th century, Spanish colonists claimed the territory of Texas as a section of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. France later claimed the area but with limited settlement. The Adams – Onis Treaty was signed in 1819 when Spain surrendered Florida to America and renounced its claim to Texas and the boundary along the Sabine River was established. Spanish rule continued until 1821 when Mexico gained independence from Spain and in 1836 early Anglo Americans gained independence from Mexico and the Republic of Texas was formed. In 1839 John Neely Bryan, a farmer, lawyer and statesman, planted a stake in the earth near the Trinity River and on his return in 1841 a permanent settlement was formed and Dallas was established.
This effervescent city is forever synonymous with the American television series, Dallas, which was broadcast from April 1978 to May 1991. The storyline focused on the oil-rich and cattle-ranching Ewing family and their constant disputes. When J. R. Ewing (played by Larry Hagman) was murdered in an episode aired in March 1980 viewers were unaware as to who the culprit was until eight months later when 83 million tuned in for the ‘big reveal’. That episode remains one the most watched television broadcasts in history.
DOWNTOWN DALLAS SKYLINE COURTESY VISIT
DALLAS
I was keen to settle in and plan my explorations and opted to stay at the Warwick Melrose Hotel, located on Oak Lawn Avenue in the ‘mighty fine’ neighbourhood of Turtle Creek and Highland Park amid the vibrant cultural centre of the city. This grand property, which was recognised as a historic landmark in 1983, dates back to 1924 and perfectly reflects the elegant architectural flourishes of the roaring twenties.
Continuing to attract high profile guests and celebrities including the late Elizabeth Taylor and Arthur Miller, the Warwick Melrose provides the ultimate retreat for weary travellers seeking the perfect spot to relax. Following a swift check-in, my luggage was whisked away and I was escorted to a deluxe suite measuring 800 sq. ft. Featuring a king size bed, swathed in crisp, white linens, plush carpeting and with a separate lounge, furnished with a glittering crystal chandelier, a comfy sofa and chairs, and a dining area, I was at home in a flash.
After an ultra comfortable snooze I made my way down to the ground floor and hearing the gentle, soothing notes of the very impressive vocalist and pianist, Erik Barnes, I selected a plump seat in the sophisticated jazz-ageinspired Library bar and ordered a delicious Negroni on ice, which was served in a jiffy. The Library, selected by Playboy magazine as one of the best ‘seduction spots for America’s best bars’, is clearly a very popular venue as is the hotel’s restaurant, the Landmark Prime Rib, which offers the ultimate in steakhouse luxury in a truly glamorous setting. I ordered the most succulent 8oz Dallas Cut USDA prime rib, which is cut table-side with much aplomb, and accompanied by a bottle of Napa Cellar’s Merlot, it was an unforgettable dining experience.
Following a deep slumber and a rejuvenating early morning shower in the spacious bathroom, I made my way to the ground floor to take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool. After a few leisurely laps and a quick change of clothing I returned to the hotel’s Landmark Restaurant for a lavish breakfast. I ordered the first class Eggs Benedict with a piping hot coffee and studied my diary of daily activities.

With a spring in my step I headed for North Harwood Street, the location of the Dallas Museum of Art, one of the ten largest museums in the United States and situated in the Dallas Arts District, which is the biggest arts area throughout America. With over 25,000 works spanning 5,000 years, there is much to see. Due to the size of the collection, artwork rotates in and out of public view. The permanent exhibits include pieces by local artists and international masters, including Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso and Renoir.
Stepping out into the Texan sunshine I headed for Dealey Plaza to pay my respects to the late President John F. Kennedy who was assassinated in November 1963. The plaza is surrounded by white-stone monuments and a small sloped green space, which overlooks Elm Street, where President Kennedy’s motorcade was travelling on that ominous day.
For a deeper understanding of the tragedy I headed for the nearby Sixth Floor Museum, which chronicles the life, assassination and legacy of the late President. An extensive collection of photographs, artefacts, films and documents offer a deep insight into his personal life and presidency. In addition, other exhibits detail the investigation and the inevitable conspiracy theories. Later, I returned to the Warwick Melrose Hotel and for a ‘gal’ who loves to be pampered and preened, Le Spa, the hotels’ in-house sanctuary, was the ideal spot for my extensive range of luxurious treatments. I selected the glow petite facial, which was simply sublime, the tranquil touch massage, which more than lived up to its name by alleviating my traveller’s muscle aches and tension and then the rejuvenating manicure and pedicure completed my programme. I hurried to my suite, selected my favourite cocktail dress and feeling like a million dollars, I headed out.
For my last evening in the great city of Dallas I visited the spectacular Reunion Tower; affectionately known as ‘The Ball’, due to its geodesic sphere design. Soaring 561 feet into the sky, the tower features a GeO –Deck, which is the impressive observation platform where visitors are amply rewarded with thrilling panoramic views over the city.
top tip
Avoid delays and airport queues and book your airport transfers online with Blacklane for a reliable, punctual, first-class service. Visit blacklane.com for more information.
Also within the tower, the prestigious Crown Block restaurant offers an impressive menu of steaks and seafood. Features include a sushi bar, a pastry bar and of course the outstanding views. Recognised by Michelin in 2024 and again in 2025, this circular restaurant is a very popular spot and reservations are essential. I was most fortunate to be seated next to an enormous window and noted the hush that descended over my fellow diners as we collectively witnessed the most spectacular sunset over the bustling freeways, crammed with endless meandering lines of rush hour traffic and the headlights twinkling in the dark night. I ordered the delicious lobster bisque, followed by the most succulent Filet Mignon and I instantly yielded to the temptation of the key lime pie. And as I sipped on my glass of Remy Martin VSOP I held my glass aloft with a toast to the great city of Dallas. With my best effort of a warm Texan drawl I announced ‘I’ll be back to see y’all again, ya hear’!

A DIARY OF EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES
new year
After a busy Christmas and New Year period, we were delighted to have the opportunity to catch up with Nick and Royston before they begin filming for the new series of The Real Housewives of Cheshire.
Lauren Simon of The Real Housewives of Cheshire is a dedicated supporter of several homeless charities and has worked closely with Barnabus to raise vital funds for rough sleepers in Manchester. The charity continues to highlight the critical need for support and shelter, particularly during the winter months.
Following her appearance as a special guest at the Barnabus Going for Gold Gala in October, Lauren decided to host her own fundraising event at ‘Victors’ in Hale. Family, friends and fellow cast members from The Real Housewives of Cheshire - including Nick and Royston - came together for a Sunday of exceptional food and entertainment. The event was a great success, raising many thousands of pounds for this worthy cause.
BARNABUS CHARITY EVENT
NEW SEASON OF THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF CHESHIRE
The start of 2026 marks the launch of the 19th season of The Real Housewives of Cheshire. Returning as regular guests are Nick and Royston, alongside original housewife Ampika Pickston.
Over the coming months, Nick and Royston will be busy filming and reconnecting with the latest dramas and events surrounding the Housewives. Joining Ampika, is Shane Lynch of Boyzone, and his wife Sheena White. The first day’s filming was at an event held at The Orange Tree in Congleton. This vibrant venue, known for its lively atmosphere, excellent food, and impressive cocktails, provided the perfect backdrop for the opening episode.
Season 19 is set to air in March and anticipation is already building.
DINNER IN MALVERN
MANCHESTER DOGS HOME
As passionate dog lovers, Nick and Royston were more than happy to support Ampika in raising Christmas funds for Manchester Dogs Home. With increasing financial pressures on charities, every contribution plays a crucial role in supporting the care of dogs until they can be rehomed.
Nick and Royston were tasked with running the tombola stall, quickly drawing in a crowd with their warmth, humour and fun-loving personalities. The day was a resounding success, raising much-needed funds for a charity that is very close to their hearts.
Close friend Yvette Brentnall, kindly invited Nick and Royston to spend an evening at her beautiful home in the stunning Malvern countryside. Having shared many memorable holidays over the years, time spent with Yvette and her family is always greatly cherished.
As expected, the weekend was filled with laughter and enjoyment. After a wonderful dinner, the music was turned up and Yvette and Royston took to the dancefloor, strutting their moves and creating yet more happy memories.
It was truly a wonderful weekend spent in the company of great friends.

Behind the Chair: The Quiet Truths About Hair, Growth and Confidence
By Philip Underhill
What years in the salon reveal about hair health, growth myths, and why confidence is built slowly — not picked up from a well-known high street chemist.
THE VIEW FROM THE CHAIR
There is a moment at the start of every appointment — just before the consultation truly begins — when a client sits down and catches their reflection in the mirror. That’s often when the apologies start. For the roots. For the dryness. For the breakage.
After years behind the chair, you learn that hair tells a story long before a word is spoken. And more often than not, what clients are really searching for isn’t a new look — it’s reassurance.
WHAT WE NOTICE IMMEDIATELY
A professional eye picks up details most people overlook. Breakage around the hairline. Tension in the scalp from styles worn too tightly. Colour fade caused not by one appointment, but by everyday wear.
These aren’t criticisms. They’re clues — helping us understand how hair has been treated between visits.
THE REALITY OF HAIR GROWTH
Hair growth is often misunderstood. Hair will grow regardless; the challenge is keeping it healthy enough to stay. Most setbacks aren’t about speed, but about breakage quietly undoing progress.
Strong hair is built through consistency: scalp care, gentle handling, realistic timelines, and knowing when to stop pushing hair further than it wants to go.
WHY HAIR NEEDS REGULAR MAINTENANCE
Maintenance haircuts protect length rather than sacrifice it. Fine or heavily coloured hair benefits from more regular maintenance, while thicker or textured hair depends more on shape and balance.
Hair doesn’t need maintenance because it’s ‘bad’. It needs it because it’s been lived in.
THE QUIET TAKEAWAY
The most confident clients aren’t defined by trends or length, but by understanding their hair — its limits, its strengths, and what it needs.
When hair feels considered and cared for, confidence follows naturally. Not loud, but calm, familiar, and entirely your own.
Undone Hair — we care about you and your hair.
why i’m seeing more clients turn to cold plasma for healthier skin
As a beauty therapist, I’ve seen a real shift towards treatments that prioritise long-term skin health rather than aggressive intervention. In recent years, there has been a growing demand for results-driven therapies that respect the skin barrier, and one of the most exciting innovations I now offer at Smooth By Sarah in Codsall is Dr Platon Cold Plasma Therapy.
5 WEEKLY TREATMENTS
Unlike traditional energy-based treatments, Dr Platon uses non-thermal atmospheric plasma, meaning it delivers powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits without heat or discomfort. By converting oxygen and nitrogen into cold plasma, the treatment interacts with the skin’s surface to stimulate regeneration and support the skin’s natural healing processes. What I love most about this treatment is its versatility. It’s suitable for teenagers aged 12+ through to mature skin, and I regularly use it for acne-prone clients, as cold plasma helps neutralise acne-causing bacteria while regulating sebum production – all without stripping or sensitising the skin.
Cold plasma has also become an excellent option for clients with inflammatory skin conditions such as
SmootH By Sarah
rosacea, eczema and seborrheic dermatitis. By calming redness and supporting cellular repair, it offers a gentler alternative for those who struggle to tolerate more aggressive treatments.
Another standout benefit is its ability to enhance the absorption of topical skincare ingredients by up to 24% for up to 12 hours after treatment. This means that both professional treatments and homecare products applied post-treatment can penetrate more effectively, maximising results while supporting long-term skin health.
From an anti-ageing perspective, Dr Platon encourages collagen production, improves skin texture and enhances the penetration of topical skincare products. This means both in-clinic treatments and homecare routines become more effective.
For me, it represents a modern, thoughtful approach to achieving healthier, more resilient skin.
WEEKLY TREATMENTS
DR PLATON ROSACEA 7 TREATMENTS
As a qualified Level 4 therapist, I take a responsible and holistic approach to skin health. Although cold plasma can effectively improve how the skin looks and feels, it’s important to recognise that concerns such as acne or inflammation may be influenced by internal factors including hormones, diet, medication or underlying health conditions. For this reason, I always advise clients with ongoing or unexplained skin concerns to seek guidance from a GP or medical professional, as my role is to treat the external presentation of the skin alongside appropriate medical care.
As with all of my treatments, I offer a complimentary consultation, giving you the opportunity to meet me, discuss your individual skin concerns, and receive expert advice on the most suitable treatment options available to you.
If you’re experiencing problematic skin or are seeking skin rejuvenation, please feel free to get in touch.
I have been having weekly facials with Sarah for a couple of months now. My skin was at its worst after struggling for around 15 years and I needed something more than just a facial so decided on the Dr Platon. Whilst it has taken time, I still saw results after the first one. Sarah explained everything and made me feel so comfortable. Can’t thank her enough.

Where you can find me
I’m proud to welcome clients to my private garden cabin – a peaceful, purpose-built space offering treatments in a discreet and comfortable environment with easy parking available, where you can relax and enjoy a moment of self-care.
I look forward to helping you feel confident in your skin.
I have been visiting Sarah now for the past 8 weeks as I have been suffering with hormonal breakouts. When I first visited Sarah we discussed the treatments that were available and Sarah suggested Dr Platon. Sarah was really patient with me and discussed my diet, stress and lifestyle and explained that all of these can have effect on your skin. She also recommended some products for me to try at home. Since seeing Sarah my skin has improved so much. I look forward to my visit as she always makes me feel so welcome.

spring to action: time to check your hearing
With Easter just around the corner, we usually think about Easter eggs, family get togethers or attending a church service. It might be the right time to show some eggstra love to two of the most hardworking parts of your body: your ears.
Hearing is the sense that keeps us connects us with life. Whether it’s relaxed conversation, hearing a “Happy Easter” from a loved one, or following a conversation in a busy restaurant, your hearing is at the heart of your social life.
THE “INVISIBLE” STRAIN OF HEARING LOSS
We often talk about the physical side of hearing loss, but the emotional impact is just as significant. When hearing starts to fade, often gradual, it can create a “communication gap” between friends and families:
• The “Mumble” Factor: Are people are mumbling more than they used to? It can lead to frustration on all sides.
• Social Withdrawal: If you find it exhausting to follow conversations in noisy places, you might start turning down invitations to social events you used to enjoy.
• Volume Wars: If the TV volume is a point of debate in your home, it might be a sign that one person’s hearing may need a little support.
TREAT YOURSELF (AND YOUR EARS!)
Taking care of your hearing isn’t just about “fixing a problem”, it’s about enhancing your lifestyle. Modern hearing technology is now so discreet and intelligent that it fits seamlessly into your day-to-day life. From devices that sync directly to your smartphone to
AI-driven “Prestige” models that automatically adjust to the acoustics of a room, listening can be effortless again.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT OUR HEAR IN CLINICS
If you’ve been putting off a check-up because you’re worried about a clinical, daunting experience, let us put your mind at ease. Visiting our family-run clinics in Hagley, Wombourne, or Rubery is more like visiting a friend for a chat.
1. A Warm Welcome: We’ll start with a cup of tea or coffee and a relaxed conversation about your lifestyle.
1. State-of-the-Art Hearing Assessments: We use the latest technology to get a precise map of your hearing health.
1. No-Pressure Advice: As an independent practice, we’re not tied to any single manufacturer. We only recommend solutions that truly fit your needs and your budget.
This Easter, don’t wait for the “mumble” to become a barrier. Showing your ears some ‘eggstra’ love is one of the best things you can do for your long-term cognitive health, relationships and general wellbeing

inheritance tax is one of the most hated taxes - passing wealth onto the next generation
Inheritance Tax often sits quietly in the background until the numbers become real.
For some families the moment often arrives when they add everything up and see their estate growing beyond one million, two million and beyond.
The next thought follows quickly. How much of this will my children have to pay in tax. That question alone creates anxiety. Understandably parents want to pass on security and not a large tax bill.
The fear is understandable. Inheritance Tax feels complicated. The language is technical. The rules feel rigid. Families feel they must choose between protecting their children and keeping control of their own wealth. This often leads to inaction. They know they need to plan but they do not know where to begin. Time passes and the problem grows. The estate grows, the allowances do not and the tax bill increases.
There are steps that can be taken to reduce exposure
There are strategies that offer structure and control. There are solutions that can reduce the tax liability, giving families greater clarity rather than anxiety. Once families understand the options presented, they can start to plan with confidence. They realise they don’t have to be in a tax trap. The tax burden on the next generation can be eased.
Trust investments
The use of Trusts are often the foundation of the planning. They give a family a formal structure to pass wealth to generation whilst under their control. A trust lets you remove assets from your estate while keeping influence over how the money is used. You decide when children receive funds. You decide who manages the trust. You decide the rules that protect the family long after you are gone. The adantage of a trust is its flexibility. It supports gifting without losing control. It protects assets from divorce or debt. It allows wealth to grow outside your estate. Over time this reduces the projected tax liability in a steady and controlled way.
The earlier a trust is used the stronger the long-term effect. Families who take this path often feel calmer because they
have a plan that evolves with them. They see the progress and their legacy taking shape.
Inheritance Tax Schemes
Some families need additional solutions that directly target potential liability. There are HMRC approved schemes that qualify for specific reliefs under current rules. These options allow parts of the estate to fall outside the tax calculation after the required holding period. The attraction is clear. These schemes can reduce the future bill without forcing the family to give up access or control. They sit within a defined tax framework meeting strict HMRC criteria. When matched correctly with other planning options, they offer a powerful balance of control and tax efficiency.
This is often where conversations shift. Families start to realise they do not need to choose between structure and access. They can have both. They can reduce the tax burden while still guiding the direction of the family wealth. They can protect what they care about without feeling like they are giving it all away.
Life Insurance
Life insurance also provides an alternative but important option. It does not reduce the liability. It pays it instead. When written into trust the proceeds sit outside the estate. The payout arrives at the moment it is needed. It prevents children from having to sell property or assets quickly. It can help keep the estate intact while the necessary steps are taken. Families with property heavy estates often rely on this tool because it buys time. It protects assets while decisions are made calmly rather than under duress.
When these three elements are used together the impact can be significant. Trusts reduce the long-term value of the estate. Approved schemes target specific relief opportunities. Life insurance covers any remaining liability. The result is a structured plan that gives the family clarity and control. Parents feel reassured. Children feel protected. The tax is addressed from every angle.
The biggest issue is delay. Families often wait until they are older before taking action. This reduces the options available. Trusts become less efficient. Approved schemes
cannot fast forward their qualifying periods. Life insurance becomes more expensive. Time becomes the limiting factor. The earlier a family starts the more choices they have. The planning becomes smoother. The outcomes improve.
Instead of fear they feel greater certainty. Instead of worrying about what they leave behind they start shaping it with intention. Forward planning is about protecting what matters across generations. It is about ensuring children inherit both wealth and the freedom to use it without stress.
Families want to understand their own numbers. They want to know what their estate might face in real terms. They want a clear plan to take control before circumstances force decisions upon them.
racing across the roaring 40’s. a local financial planner returns from an extraordinary voyage
Tettenhall welcomed home one of its own after an exceptional adventure across the Southern Ocean. Financial Planner Martin Dodd has completed a dramatic ocean crossing from South Africa to Australia and has surpassed his fundraising goal for Promise Dreams.
The voyage placed Martin aboard the racing yacht Washington DC. A professional Skipper, a First Mate, and fourteen determined amateur sailors formed a close crew as they tackled the Clipper Round the World race. The route from Cape Town to Fremantle covered over 5,500 miles and took more than three weeks of sailing 24 hours a day 7 days a week. With no stop off’s on the way!
Martin described the experience with clear emotion. “Halfway through the crossing the closest people to us were on the International Space Station. It felt surreal. It tested every part of you. But the crew came together. We worked together and kept going through some very tough conditions.”
Martin Dodd is an Independent Financial Adviser providing financial planning advice in the Wolverhampton area. Midlands Investment Agency is based in Tettenhall High Street. Contact him on 01902 742221.
This article should not be regarded as specific financial advice. Always seek professional advice based upon your individual circumstances before taking action. The value of investments can rise and fall and you may not get back what you invested.
as his daughter Harriet unexpected flew all the way out to Australia to meet him as he set foot on dry land for the first time in 23 days. A very emotional surprise moment for them both.
Promise Dreams was at the centre of Martin’s motivation. The Wolverhampton based charity works across the UK to bring comfort, support, and joy to children facing serious or terminal illness. The work ranges from memory making experiences to essential quality of life improvements for families who face daily strain.
Wind speeds of over 45 knots (over 50 miles and hour) and waves of up to 7 metres for most of the journey, keeping the crew very much alert and on their toes.
Reaching Australia brought relief and pride. It also brought the knowledge that support from friends, colleagues, and complete strangers had carried him past his fundraising target of three thousand five hundred pounds.
On reaching Fremantle, Martin had an even bigger surprise
Martin and his wife Sally Lawson have long stood behind this mission. Through their events and initiatives they have raised a significant sum for the charity over the last 10 years. Their support continues to create meaningful change for families across the region.
Reflecting on the journey, Martin expressed deep gratitude. “The crew did something remarkable. I am proud of every person who sailed with us. But I am even more grateful to everyone who donated or sent messages. It means everything to me and to the families Promise Dreams helps.”
Support for Martin’s campaign remains open through his Just Giving page.
FAMILY FALLOUTS: when blood isn’t always thicker than water
Family fallouts aren’t just the stuff of celebrity headlines. In reality, many families experience breakdowns in relationships between parents and children, siblings, or wider relatives, often caused by divorce, remarriage, money, inheritance expectations, or long-standing differences.
When these relationships fracture, one important question is often overlooked: what happens in your will?
Many people assume matters will resolve themselves, or that their estate will naturally be dealt with as they expect. Unfortunately, the law doesn’t work on assumptions. Without a clear and up-to-date will, your estate could pass to people you are no longer in contact with, or exclude those you intended to provide for.
Poorly drafted or outdated wills can also increase the
risk of disputes and challenges, particularly where family relationships are already strained. This can lead to unnecessary conflict, stress, and legal costs at an already difficult time.
A professionally drafted, watertight will allows you to take control. It ensures your wishes are clear, your assets are protected, and your intentions are properly recorded.
Family relationships may be complicated but your will doesn’t have to be.

The Cupra Terramar is a very stylish SUV that is based on the same floor pan as the V.W. Tiguan and Skoda Kodiaq and this gives an indication of the collaboration of all models in the vast VAG armoury, writes Bob Hickman
Although it shares many mechanical parts it is a standalone model, with wonderful external styling. The Cupra Terramar is a very nice sporty vehicle, and so it should be, the intention with the Cupra brand was to break away from Seat and produce a sporty derivative in most sectors.
The front of the vehicle makes a statement with the triangular shaped LED daytime lights. The 19-inch alloy wheels are stylish in their design, the rear of the vehicle with its wrap around LED light system gives the vehicle a purposeful looking stance.
The interior was a welcoming friend, especially to those with loyalty to VAG products. My test car arrived the same day as a Skoda Superb was taken away, the cross over from one to the other was incredibly smooth. A very similar driver layout with most controls on the steering wheel, the gear selector was on the steering wheel stalk, the wipers and indicators shared the same stalk, all fittings in common with the Skoda. From a driver’s perspective it was a delight not to constantly keep looking at the large infotainment screen to change settings. Inside, the seats are very sculpted and supportive with huge amounts of electrical adjustments to get comfortable.
All the instrumentation was clear and easy to read; the windscreen heads-up display is a bonus. I was intrigued that when the lights were switched on a linear red LED swept all around the front of the car from door to door, especially useful was the amber lighting on both front doors when another vehicle was in your blind spot.
Wireless smartphone charging is included as standard and joins Apple car play and Android Auto for very easy connection
Front-seat passengers in the Cupra Terramar won’t find too much to complain about. The seats are a highlight, they’re nice and supportive without being too narrow or restrictive, drivers won’t slide about in the corners while those more generously proportioned won’t feel hemmed in. There’s also lots of adjustment in the seat and steering column.
The sliding rear seat allows you juggle either leg room or more boot space, the amount of boot space was in my opinion more than adequate for most people’s needs.
There are a multitude of engine derivatives, including
hybrids, the test car had a 1.5 litre petrol, it produced 150 P.S. sufficient to enable a 0-62 in 9.3 seconds and a top speed of 127mph, the co2 was 137 g/km.
The driving dynamics were really good, I have to admit I had been looking forward to this car test for some time, I was not disappointed, you get a sporty feeling behind the wheel. Quick steering, firm suspension, excellent brakes and power in plenty make the Terramar a pleasure to drive down a twisty road, where it was in its element, I didn’t get to do any motorway driving so cannot comment on that aspect. Surprisingly for a sporty derivative all Cupra Terramar have an automatic gearbox, so driving in town is nice and easy.
All models get plenty of kit - full LED lights, sports seats, tinted windows and a 12.9-inch touchscreen display with wireless smartphone connectivity, in addition a full suite of safety equipment is incorporated. My V2 trim, added a 360-degree camera and 19-inch alloys plus a head-up display, Cupra Terramar gets a five year or 90,000 miles warranty.
The Cupra Terramar as tested had a retail price of £41655, however the test car had a towing device fitted and in addition a spare wheel was included making an on the road price of £42,705.
skoda superb se l estate
The Skoda Superb Estate is a big, practical family car in a market awash with SUVs, it gives the Superb a bit of a look at me stance, writes Bob Hickman.
The space in the vehicle, especially in the rear seats is wonderful, with plenty of knee and headroom. The boot space is cavernous, the Superb has almost van type carrying capacity, a feature that over the years we appear to have forgotten how useful estate cars were.
The Superb has quality and I found it very accommodating, a great place to be cocooned within, with plenty of decent materials and a good build quality.
One feature that still intrigues are the Umbrellas contained in both front doors, I thought only Rolls Royce considered their owners that much to provide weather protection.
From a driver’s perspective you get a 13-inch infotainment display as standard, but I believe manufacturers have started to listen to owner feedback and not overloaded this screen with control features. It has clear, crisp graphics and responds quickly to your touch. There is also a display directly in front of the driver containing all the important information.
What impressed me most was the use of the steering wheel controls and stalks affixed to the wheel. A first for me was the location of the gear selector, normally the gear lever is in the middle of the car, but on the Superb it was on a stalk on the steering column as was the combined indicator and screen washer control. The steering wheel also allowed changes in screen displays without having to search on the touch screen.
The engine in the test vehicle was a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 150hp with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. This allowed a 0-60 gallop in 9.3 seconds and should enable a top speed of 137mph. I covered just over 300 miles in the car and the computer suggested I had achieved 56.8 to the gallon. This was very commendable as most of my driving had been in and around town with one motorway journey. The Co figure is given as 134g/km
The Superb is really easy to drive despite its size. You have great visibility, and the addition of cameras at both front and rear make parking very easy. All versions of the Superb get front and rear parking sensors as standard.
The Skoda Superb’s suspension gave a nice smooth
drive, there was minimal wind or road noise to disturb your ambience, it should prove a very relaxing car to eat up the miles.
For the driver, the Superb has plenty of adjustment in the seats and the steering wheel to find your perfect driving position, there is also plenty of storage available. The centre console has two storage compartments, one, for a wireless phone charger, surprisingly though Blue tooth connectivity was not included, to get my iPhone to work with Apple play I had to revert to good old-fashioned cables to connect to the new generations USB-C ports of which there were two.
Rear passengers also have plenty of storage space, a centre armrest has cupholders, two more USB-C points are also fitted.
All models also come with plenty of kit to help prevent an accident happening, such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking.
The Skoda Superb SEL Estate had a recommended price of £40,795, however the test car benefitted from, metallic paint, a tow bar, 19-inch silver alloys together with a variable boot floor and this made the test car £44,495.
All Skoda models have a three-year 60,000-mile warranty.
