A team of 10 pure Glatz bred steers were the highest scoring entries for both “Feedlot Performance” and “Carcase Quality” in the 2021 Southern Grainfed Carcase Classic. This team was also awarded the overall “Grand Champion Team”. The cattle were 120 day grain-fed at Teys Australia’s Charlton Feedlot and processed at Teys Australia’s Naracoorte plant. This follows on from great results in the 2020 competition. MSA’s own “Excellence in Eating Quality” award has seen pure Glatz blood steers achieve the highest honor. These 200 steers ranked #1 for MSA Compliance, MSA Index and MSA Marble Score. The analysis was taken from a two-year delivery period and included consignments from 760 MSA registered producers. The Southern Grassfed Carcase Classic is the largest competition of it’s kind in Australia. From a field of 1269 entries representing 45 producers, a Glatz’s Black Angus client achieved Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Carcase. The same producer received the award for the

espite the cancellation of the Royal Adelaide Show in 2021 as another victim of Covid-19, the Society managed at the last minute to keep the steer carcase comp running, as a carcase only competition. The competition was still fierce, with well over 100 entries competing across the breeds.

Champion Eating Quality Carcass Overall was won by Lancaster REBEL R179, with an impressive total Eating Quality Points score of 47.17/50 and a MSA Marbling score of 830, putting him in the top 5% of MSA carcases (all breeds), nationally. Interestingly the second highest marbling score was another Lancaster bred Black Simmental, raised and entered by Naracoorte High School. These traits in a young Purebred Simmental carcase are very exciting, proving that the Simmental breed has come a long way in eating quality and that the Black Simmental carcase is an absolute field leader; you really can have your steak and eat it too! It was fantastic to see so many Euro breed animals at the top of the charts.

or the 13th year the Limestone Coast Combined Stock and Land Beef Field Day will be proudly held at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds on Thursday, February 3rd 2022. Eight breeds will be displayed from nine different studs; this is a unique opportunity to take a look at many different breeds all at the one venue. Owners will be on hand to discuss with you any advice you may need to select a potential purchase, also what their breed can do for your herd. The eight breeds on show will include South Devon, Red Angus, Simmental, Hereford, Limousin, Salers, Speckled Park and MaineAnjou. With as many versatile breeds on display you will be sure to pick up your next herd sire or dam. We believe it is best for you to start the day right, so the BBQ will be heating up at 8:30am with a bacon and egg breakfast; followed with a sausage sizzle lunch. he 100 bulls catalogued for sale on Tuesday February 15th (3:30pm SA time) are big, free moving bulls who cover some ground and look like bulls should look. Combined with impressive paperwork, they are an investment in weight for age, bone and muscling. Bulls in the offering include sons of Banquet Nixon, LS Capitalist, Te Mania Nehill N377 and Texas Western Express H220. The consistency of the draft is excellent – thick bulls with punch, presence and power.
