A message from TCS Lidingöloppet’s Secretary-General Cecilia Gyldén

Fotograf: Emelie Alamanos

Welcome to TCS Lidingöloppsveckan @Hemma2021 – an arrangement for all you who wish to run at home! Lidingöloppet is proud to wish you welcome to this year’s running festivities - TCS Lidingöloppet and Rosa Bandet-loppet. As race event organisers, we are happy to finally carry out races on site again, albeit in a smaller scale. We however know that many runners, for different reasons, cannot take part in the event at Lidingö this year, but still enjoy having it as a goal for their training.

Regardless of whether you run TCS Lidingöloppet@Hemma or Rosa Bandet-loppet@ Hemma, we are happy to cheer you on as you are toeing your own starting line. Have you fueled properly in preparation for your race? Have you found places for water- and energy stops along the course? Are you running alone, or will you bring a friend or a colleague?

ast year, the pandemic and the subsequent public health restrictions prevented us from arranging races on site. We thus offered all who were interested the opportunity to run the races where they live or work. A full 6 000 participants registered for the races at home, and it created a want for more.

Even if you are running the races @Hemma you should of course only start if you are healthy. You have an entire month to run, so select a day when you feel strong. Keep in mind to maintain a safe distance to other participants on the trails. And when you cross the finish line, don’t forget to celebrate your achievement!

We know that many of you would not have wanted to travel to Lidingö, or even had the opportunity to, or would have felt uneasy about registering for a race. Many of you have registered for races which have been postponed or cancelled and feel like it is more practical to run the race at home. Many wish to take a first step and try to race in a familiar environment before signing up

Welcome to start – enjoy your race and good luck!

L

for a big race arrangement. And many are registered for TCS Lidingöloppet at Lidingö and want more than one attempt. For all of you, TCS Lidingöloppet@Hemma and Rosa Bandet-loppet@Hemma are available also this year!

This year’s medal

This year’s medal motive: ”Swallow” (around 1950), detail from Carl Milles’ ”Fountain of Faith” The motive on this year’s TCS Lidingöloppet medal is Carl Milles’ statue ”Swallow” (around 1950) – a small bird intended for Milles’ monumental sculpture group ”Fountain of Faith” (1939-52), which, with its 38 human statues, plus animals and plants, is located at Falls Church outside of Washington D.C. The plaque next to the sculpture group reads ”The Fountain of Faith makes us see that we do not walk alone, that we’ll have a part in the bigger scheme of things”. TCS Lidingöloppet celebrates this message after a long period of social isolation: We do not walk alone – we are running together!

You can also run several loops on the same course, for example 3 x 10K.

Preparation for timing There are two different ways for you to take your time, either via a watch with GPS, or with a phone with GPS reception and a training app. Lidingöloppet is connected to the training app STRAVA, which you can download free of charge via AppStore or Google Play. Make sure you have a fully charged phone/watch with you and that you have downloaded the latest version of the app/software. Lidingöloppet recommends that you use the training app STRAVA, but it is also possible to use alternatives that have GPS functionality such as Runkeeper or other common apps Make sure that you prepare your app/watch for timing and that you have ”captured” a GPS reception where you are. You start your race by starting the timing via the app/clock you are going to measure the time with.

5

General information for runners THE RACE You start your race at any time and time and at any day you want. The only requirement is that you complete the race during the period 1 October – 31 October 2021. You start your race by setting up your GPS watch or GPS phone. You take are responsible for ensuring that you have run the distance where you are registered for. Since you run your race yourself, you need to make sure to arrange your own refreshments. Be sure to drink properly before the race. Stop the time when you have reached the distance of the race you are registered for. Remember to save your activity to your app/watch, please double check so that the app/watch has registered your running correctly. Performance reporting – no later than the 3rd of November ??? When you have reached the finish, report your time via “Report Results” available on My Pages. (Link to My Pages can be found in the e-mail Start Certificate). A detailed instruction on how this is done can be found below and can also be found on Lidingöloppet’s website.

TIMEKEEPING THE TIMEKEEPING

There are two different ways for you to take your time, either via a watch with GPS, or with a phone with GPS reception and a training app. Lidingöloppet is connected to the training app STRAVA, which you download free of charge via AppStore or Google Play.

BEFORE YOUR RACE:

Make sure that you have a fully charged phone/watch with you and that you have downloaded the latest version of the app you are going to measure your time with.

AT THE START:

Make sure that you prepare your app/clock for timing and that you have “captured” GPS reception where you are. When the “start shot” goes, start the timing via the app/ clock you are going to measure the time with. Select Race/Race on your activity. This measures the time from start to finish when you stop the clock/app, i.e Elapsed Time. If the watch/app is set to Run/Training, the 6

time will appear in Moving Time when you save your activity. Usually shorter because you may have stopped and drunk or tied your shoes. The performance time is measured with Elapsed Time=total time.

AT THE FINISH:

Stop the time when you have reached the “right” distance. Be sure to save the activity in your app/watch, please double check so that the app/watch has registered your run before you leave the target area. Moving Time - Time of movement. The time when you are in motion during your session. Most often, this time will be shown on your watch/app if you have the Run/Training setting. Elapsed Time - total time start to finish. Total time between start and finish on your activity on your watch/app. Shown if you choose Race/Race on your activity on your watch/app. This is the time on which the result time is based. When reporting your time: Go to My Pages (link can be found in the e-mail Start Certificate). Here you can now choose two different ways to report your time. 1. By submitting GPX file from any training app How you do it differs a little depending on the watch/app you have. Visit each manufacturer’s page to learn how to proceed. Download the GPX file, preferably to your computer or phone, and then upload it to our interface. Note, the file you selected must have the ending .gpx so that we can read the results. For those of you who use Runkeeper, here’s what to do; End your recording in the Runkeeper app, Sign into Runkeepers website (not app. )If you can see your activity in your activity feed, click on it there, otherwise click on the “me” tab, and then select activities on the right side of the screen. This allows you to choose from all your activities - select the appropriate activity and it is uploaded to the right panel. Scroll down the page and directly below the activity on the right side there is a section called “Export” with a link that says “GPX” - click there. A GPX file is downloaded to your computer - remember where it is saved. That’s the one you need to upload.

General information for runners 2. By selecting any of the sessions that you registered in the training app Strava. Either you can connect your training app/watch directly to Strava which means that the workouts including your competition performance show up directly in STRAVA and are selectable there, (here you will find a good information page on how to connect the watch with STRAVA). Alternatively, use STRAVA as your timing app on your phone. You must first link your Lidingölopps account to your Strava account, which you do by clicking on the “Connect with Strava” button. After that, you will be able to choose which of your Strava activity you want to submit as your “competition entry”. If none of these two reporting methods work, you will also be able to report your time manually under “My Pages”

ROSA BANDET-LOPPET (THE PINK RIBBON-RACE) 2021

While healthcare is on high alert due to Covid 19, support for cancer research is even more important than usual. Rosa Bandet-loppet aims to inspire physical activity and spread knowledge about how everyone can reduce the risk of developing cancer through healthy lifestyles. The race is arranged together with the Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden) Cancer Foundation and marks the start every year for the Rosa Bandet (Pink Ribbon) campaign, which runs throughout Ooctober every year. For each start in the Rosa Bandet-loppet race, SEK 100 is allocated goes to the Swedish Cancer Society in full. In total, over SEK 680,000 was raised for the Swedish Cancer Society through TCS Lidingöloppet s weekend in 2019. Although it was barely possible to arrange races in 2020 due to the pandemic, SEK 250,000 was still raised for the Swedish Cancer Society through all of you who participated in the @Hemma- version of the Rosa Bandetloppet race. #tillsammansmotcancer

INTERVIEW | Lidingöloppet@Hemma Take part from home

How to increase the festive mood in Lidingöloppet@Hemma! Just like last year, TCS Lidingöloppet 2021 offers the opportunity to run the race from home through Lidingöloppet@Hemma! One of last year’s participants in the virtual race was Tommy Karlsson, who through his running club HEJAHEJA Cheering Community (@hejaheja.cc) is an expert at promoting the joy of running. Here he shares his best advice on how to increase the energy in the digital race:

 Find the motivation in yourself

For me, TCS Lidingöloppet race is very much about joy! Regardless of the weather and other external factors on the race day, this joy is an energy boost that I can live on for a long time. The energy during TCS Lidingöloppet comes from fellow competitors and from the fantastic audience, but also from myself.

 Recreate iconic places along the course

The energy increases during the race when you pass the many iconic places along the course. Since almost no spectators and other participants are present during Lidingöloppet@Hemma, you can thus recreate some of the special places that characterize the traditional racecourse on Lidingö.

Create a finish line with water and an energy station Build a finish line and celebrate your efforts after the race with water, energy drinks and treats (before Lidingöloppet@Hemma, Tommy had set up a garland as a finish line and prepared water bottles with inspiring messages).

Celebrate with loved ones when you have reached the finish line Let family and friends cheer along the track and share the joy with them after you have reached the finish line!

Welcome to TCS Lidingöloppet@Hemma 2021 - a running party over the entire world between the 1st and the 31st of October 2021! Do like Tommy and share your experience of the race and inspire other participants though social media, either via the hashtag #Lidingöloppet or through #Lidingöloppet2021!

INTERVIEW | Rosa Bandet-loppet@Hemma 2021

Rosa Bandet-loppet – togetherness in a small or large scale! In a crowd of hundreds of pink t-shirts, music and confetti, Rosa Bandet-loppet (the Pink Ribbon-race) is a party in favour of the fight against cancer. But the togetherness does not disappear just because the race is located at home through the digital race RosaBandetloppet@Hemma. On the contrary - Kajsa Wåhlin’s digital race in 2020 showed that the party can even be strengthened when the race is carried out in a smaller scale.

Rosa Bandet-loppet welcomes all participants to this year’s event – in a large or small scale, on Lidingö or digitally! Kajsa Wåhlin began her journey towards RosaBandetloppet@Hemma after she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer in the autumn of 2020. After her doctor had informed her that exercise counteracts many of the cancer treatment’s side effects, she got the idea to arrange her own Rosabandetloppet@Hemma in a small scale. The support from family, friends and acquaintances was not long in coming - many wanted to show their support during the event:

pink-ribbon event. Throughout the day, pink ice cream was served and all participants were offered pink champagne after the finish line, where SEK 100 per bottle was donated in support of the Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden).

- The event attracted neighbors, parent class representatives, friends of friends and even my own mother. I found a nice course along Edsviken for the event - up to Ulriksdals Slott and back - which was exactly a 10K long.

The result was an event in line with the Swedish Cancer Society’s slogan “Together Against Cancer”. Although Kajsa did not run in a crowd of hundreds of pink runners and confetti, her own, local Rosa Bandet-loppet with 17 participants created a “together” which is at least as meaningful – the one between relatives, friends and acquaintances who want to show their love and care.

The stretch had its start and finish at Kajsa’s favourite restaurant and gelateria at Edsviken, which joined the

- For me personally, it feels amazing that all these women walked or ran with me - and for me and others affected, says Kajsa.

Nutritional preparations

Swedish produce – great in the long run! Many know that Swedish produce promote sustainable farming practices. What is not as well acknowledged is that Swedish food is a great energy source before physical challenges. TCS Lidingöloppet therefore recommends Swedish food in the preparations for this year’s races. The following are a few of the many advantages of loading with Swedish produce before TCS Lidingöloppet: Low levels of plant protection products The Swedish climate, with its cold winters, reduces the amounts of pests, and thus reduces the need for plant protection products. Together with Sweden’s strict cultivation rules, this means that the Swedish-grown fruits and vegetables that you eat before TCS Lidingöloppet do not contain any or very low levels of residual substances of plant protection products. Safe and secure foods before race day Since Swedish food production has zero tolerance for for example salmonella and has the lowest use of antibiotics in animal husbandry in the EU, you can without worry prepare for TCS Lidingöloppet with Swedish meat, chicken, or a raw egg yolk on the frying pan.

Charge for the race with Swedish ingredients Locally grown food from Sweden has a shorter distance between cultivation and consumption compared with produce which has been transported from other parts of the world. It reduces waste and reduces the burden on the climate. So fill up with good energy and enjoy Swedish ingredients as you prepare for this year’s race!

TCS Lidingöloppet is proud to partner with LRF, Svenskt Kött and Svenskmärkningen with the voluntary origin brand From Sweden. These long-term collaborations aim to draw attention to responsible, Swedish agriculture.
