Pre-arrival Checklist and Final Steps

FINAL STEPS RESIDENCE HALL CHECK-IN New students who have completed Financial Check-In and know their room assignment may check into their residence hall during their assigned time. They will receive their room key from the resident assistant (RA). Students can verify their housing information in ASIST under “housing,” or check their Liberty email for more information. Please contact the Office of Residence Life with any questions. PLEASE NOTE: No early arrivals are allowed except for specific, pre-approved groups. If you have questions, contact the Office of Residence Life at (434) 592-4139 or housing@liberty.edu.

TRANSFER ORIENTATION All transfer students with 12 or more credit hours must attend Transfer Orientation during Fall Welcome Week. Transfer students are also required to take New Student Seminar (NSSR 101), which is a graduation requirement. Please refer to the Welcome Week schedule for more details.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION Check the myLU portal and your Liberty email for Liberty University Police Department (LUPD) updates regarding vehicle decals and registration. Visit Liberty.edu/LUPD for information on parking instructions.

ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE Enrollment Assistance provides help with enrollment requirements, including financial aid, Financial Check-In, housing, and more. Please refer to your event schedule for Enrollment Assistance locations and times.

FLAMES PASS If you have not yet received your Flames Pass, bring a government-issued photo ID to ID & Campus Services on the first floor of the DeMoss Student Center to pick up your card. You will need your Flames Pass to access your residence hall and the Reber-Thomas Dining Hall.

NEW STUDENT SEMINAR (NSSR) NSSR 101 is required for all first-time Liberty students. Note that the online component (NSSR 101) will be due two weeks after your Summer or Fall Orientation — the actual date will be listed in Blackboard. Visit Liberty.edu/NSSR for more information. If you attend NSSR 101 at Summer Orientation, then you are only required to attend the Welcome Gathering, Meet and Greet, and the President’s Kickoff during Fall Welcome Week. NSSR 101 is a graduation requirement, so don’t forget to complete this important step.

INSTITUTIONAL LIABILITY The university will not be responsible for damage to or loss of personal belongings which are a result of fire, wind, water, insects, rodents, vandalism, or theft. However, when damage or loss is reported, the university will take reasonable steps to resolve the problem. Students are encouraged to make sure personal belongings are covered by their parent’s homeowners policy or a renters insurance policy. Students residing off campus are encouraged to obtain homeowners or renters insurance to protect themselves against unforeseen circumstances.

COUR SE PL ACEMENT A ND ASSESSMENTS ASSESSMENTS Computer Assessment To ensure that Liberty students are proficient in computer technology, the university requires all students to take an information technology course (INFT 110) or pass the computer assessment. New students who opt to take the computer assessment will automatically be added to the assessment on Blackboard. Find out more at Liberty.edu/ComputerAssessment. Students who do not pass at least two areas of the computer assessment in their first semester must take INFT 110 within their first 45 credit hours, or within their first year if a transfer student. Students who pass all but one area of the assessment are required to take a 1-credit course within their first 45 credit hours (or within their first year if a transfer student) for the corresponding assessment they did not pass. Passing the computer assessment or INFT 110 will satisfy the technology competency requirement as listed on the Degree Completion Plan. Transfer students may substitute a computer application course for INFT 110 to satisfy the requirement. Visit Liberty.edu/ComputerAssessment or email INFT@liberty.edu for more information.

Math and English The Math and English Assessments are for proficiency and placement, and the results are useful in determining student class schedules. SAT/ACT scores are also used for class placement.* Students transferring in a college-level math or English class may be exempt from taking the assessment. Please note that students who are required to take the assessments will be unable to register for classes until they have completed them. CLEP, ICE, and Course Scheduling Information

COLLEGE LEVEL EX AMINATION PROGR AM (CLEP) and the Institutional Challenge Examination (ICE) CLEP and ICE tests offer a unique opportunity to gain college credit for knowledge you have already acquired. SAT and ACT scores are good predictors of how you’ll perform on the CLEP/ICE exams, and students who score well on these tests typically do well on CLEP/ICE exams. For additional information, go to Liberty.edu/CLEP or Liberty.edu/ICEResidential.

COUR SE SCHEDULING INFOR M ATION Visit Liberty.edu/Registration to view course sequences for most majors. If you wish to request a prerequisite override for courses other than math, submit a request to the appropriate academic department chair. Request a prerequisite override for general education math (MATH 110, 115, or 121) by emailing the College of General Studies (DeMoss Hall, Room 3036) at CGS@liberty.edu. For higher math courses, contact the Mathematics Department at (434) 582-2093 or math@liberty.edu. We encourage you to take a math course during your first year. If you have been accepted on academic caution, you must take MENT 101, Mentoring for University Transition, and register for no more than 14 credits your first semester. Schedules that do not conform to this policy will be adjusted by the Registrar’s Office. If you have been accepted on academic caution and have questions about class registration, contact the College of Applied Studies & Academic Success at (434) 592-4110, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m., or email CASAS@liberty.edu. Avoid courses that duplicate Advanced Placement or CLEP/ICE test credits or classes you have already transferred in. It is also important to schedule classes during the time of day that you are at your best. A typical, full-time schedule is 12–18 credit hours; however, first-semester students should avoid taking more than 15 credit hours unless otherwise instructed. Schedule your classes according to the requirements for your intended major or interest area. For degree completion plans describing course requirements for your major, visit Liberty.edu/DCPs. If you are undecided on your major, you should take foundational studies courses. For a list of courses required of all Liberty students, visit Liberty.edu/CASAS.

CL ASS R EGISTR ATION INSTRUCTIONS Below are the steps to register for classes. View detailed instructions at Liberty.edu/Registration. Remember, class registration cannot begin until you have completed Financial Check-In as well as applicable Math and English Assessments.

Visit Liberty.edu and select “myLU” at the top of the page.

Enter your username and password to sign in. (If you do not have an account, you will be prompted to create one.)

Select “ASIST,” “Student,” and “Registration.”

Choose “Fall 2016” as the registration term and click “Look Up Courses.”

Choose “Fall 2016” and click “Submit.”

Once you have chosen your desired subject, select “Course Search.”

Various classes will appear in the list. Choose the class you wish to enroll in by selecting “View Sections.”

Choose a class section and check the CRN box. Select “Register” at the bottom of the page. A “C” next to the CRN represents a closed class.

Repeat steps to add additional classes until your schedule* is complete. * 12 credit hours indicates full-time status.

 Be sure to choose classes with a building and room number listed in the “Location” column. Online classes, which are not open to residential students during their first semester at Liberty, have “DLP OFF” listed as the location. Class Registration Instructions

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT (FERPA) It is the policy of Liberty University, in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), to withhold personally identifiable information contained in our students’ educational records unless the student has consented to disclosure through Liberty’s FERPA Personal Identification Number (PIN) system. Directory information, which is not generally considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed, may be disclosed to the public. However, private information, such as grades, class schedules, the student’s account, and financial aid awards may not be released without express consent from the student. Using Liberty’s FERPA PIN system, the student may grant permission to release some or all private information to persons which he or she designates. For more information, visit Liberty.edu/FERPA.

To create a FERPA PIN: 1. Log into ASIST and select “General Information.” 2. Select “FERPA Personal Identification Number.” 3. Create a PIN.

TRANSFER STUDENTS Transfer students are required to attend the Transfer Student Orientation during Fall Welcome Week even if they attend Summer Orientation. If you have questions about transferring to Liberty, please visit Liberty.edu/Transfer. All students must take Biblical Worldview (BWVW) I and II within their first two semesters, regardless of the general education courses that transfer in. Students must also pass University Core Competencies (UNIV 101) before they can graduate. This 1-credit course is designed to help students practice the competencies needed for both academic and real-world success.
