Wrapping up a splendid summer, we are grateful for the memories made at Vasona, the picnic, Water Workout classes, Sneakaway Local Bus trips, everyday interactions, and more! Thanks to all who joined us for bumps, sets, and spikes at our first Chair Volleyball social. Due to popular demand, we plan to bring it back with a spooky twist this October. Gardens and planters around town received a facelift thanks to the beaded garden stakes made in Hands on Art. Ride and Taste Los Gatos hosted another successful event, connecting older adults to VTA’s public transportation, each other, and an enjoyable lunch at The Bywater. Prize BINGO got a little bit sweeter with local business Icing on the Cake donating a free cupcake each month. Evening ZUMBA classes and Friday afternoon options were added to our growing list of ZUMBA programs offered to members.
While West Valley College was between semesters in August, yoga teacher Angela filled in for Mary Ann to teach Supported Exercise for Ageless Training (SEAT). If you are interested in continuing or missed trying SEAT in August, you can try it out this September while ZUMBA is on break, see the calendar for dates and times.
Saying goodbye to summer doesn’t mean we’re slowing down. In fact, we’re excited to announce a few new programs for your enjoyment this fall! Following the success of Hands on Art, we will host two Paint Parties and two Beading Workshops this season. All materials will be provided for participants, courtesy of El Camino Hospital’s sponsorship. Magic Movie Tour and Art & Music Appreciation are also returning.
Our Social Dance will be held on Friday, September 12th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, featuring LIVE MUSIC by Seascape Sounds! LGS Recreation continues to offer fee-based adult enrichment classes, and we’ve added some exciting new options this fall. Be sure to check out the Fall brochure for more details on classes like Sunday Night Adult Choir, Sourdough Workshop, Cooking Workshops, Floral Arrangement classes, Bucketeers Percussion classes, and a fresh lineup of fall Great Getaway day trips.
We’re also partnering with Santa Clara County to offer an evidence-based fall prevention class called BINGOcize. This unique program combines BINGO, fall prevention tips, and both seated and standing exercises. Participants must attend 80% of the 20 classes. Please note that class dates are irregular due to instructor and facility scheduling. The 10-week class will be held on Mondays at 10 AM and Thursdays at 1 PM—we hope you’ll give it a try! Finally, we’re thrilled to share that we now have a record-high number of over 970 55 Plus members in our community-thank you! Our team would love to reach 1,000 members by the end of the year. Please invite a friend to join too!
Sincerely,
Lisanne Kennedy Recreation Coordinator
