Backwash range is amazing, my favourite it the Detox, Blonde and colour care!
Detox and Blonde doesn’t leave the hair feeling dry like most do!
Carolyn UrquhartRhassoul 6 in 1 All Purpose Leave in Treatment Spray 350ml I love this product. I have used it for a number of years and it is fabulous. It takes the stress and tangles out of my hair after washing and smells wonderful.
Fleur Rose
The mask is my favourite I have recommended to a client to buy as her hair was super dry and after a couple of months using this mask she is complaining that her hair is super soft and not dry anymore she can't believe it
Anastazja Wawruch
After the mask, I like to use my "magic serum," which is actually the 6-in-1 conditioner. I comb it through, leave it for a few minutes, and finish with a shimmer oil. Then I move on to blow-drying, and my clients can't believe their own hands—they’re amazed that it’s their hair. It looks like a botox treatment—literally.

What inspired you to pursue a career in hair and beauty, and how has your journey evolved over the years?
My desire to become a hairdresser stemmed from my own negative salon experiences, which often left me feeling upset. I wanted to create a welcoming space where clients, especially women, could leave with a smile. I started my journey in smaller salons with limited growth opportunities, and at age 23, I opened my first salon while investing heavily in my education. Attending seminars with industry leaders, winning Wella balayage competition, and later becoming an educator for Schwarzkopf were pivotal milestones that fueled my passion. A memorable highlight was working backstage with Ashley Norman in Budapest.
Can you share some tips or advice for clients looking to maintain healthy, beautiful hair between salon visits?
The most important thing is to continue proper care at home. What you do after leaving the salon truly matters. I always recommend using professional products tailored to your hair type, especially masks and treatments that nourish and protect. Great results come from consistency and listening to advice.
How do you tailor you services to meet each client’s individual needs?
Every client gets my full attention, whether it’s their first visit or they’ve been with me for years. I believe thorough consultation is key. Understanding their lifestyle, hair condition, and preferences allows me to deliver a result that truly suits their needs.
What challenges do you face in the hairdressing industry, and what keeps you passionate about your work?
The industry moves fast, and keeping up can be challenging but that’s also what keeps me motivated. The drive to learn and push myself creatively is what helps me grow. Every new skill or technique I learn becomes a reminder of why I love this profession.
How do you stay current with the latest hair trends, techniques, and products?
I constantly invest time in education, attending seminars, doing my own research, and staying up to date through professional platforms and trainings. I believe you never stop learning in this industry.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to pursue a career in hairdressing?
Love what you do that’s the foundation. Without passion, it’s hard to keep going. Be ready to learn, stay curious, and invest in your growth. Education and dedication are everything in this craft.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Kylie Dufrene Michel of Salon Raybon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The first thing that struck us was Kylie’s incredibly warm and welcoming smile.
When we invited her to participate in our eJOURNAL, she responded with a heartfelt message: “Thanks for giving me this opportunity.”
We first noticed your work when you began tagging us on social media. What strategies have you used to get noticed and what advice would you give others who want to leave their mark?
Back in 2020, I started using Leyton House color and was instantly hooked! My work was transforming into stunning visuals. I wanted to share my passion for this product with other stylists and former clients who had moved on. It all began with a simple goal: to spread the love of Leyton House.
The best advice for any stylist is to find a product you truly believe in and stand behind it 100%. Finally, share the incredible results it can create with the world.
Whats your personal hair journey story and how do you describe your salon?
I’ve always dreamed of joining the hair world, but I took the traditional route and went to college first. My grandfather attended the first barber school in New Orleans, Molar. So I
guess its in the genes. In January of 2013, the chance came for me to move and start cosmetology school.
I was so lucky to have a team of super talented educators at my school who really helped me along the way. I’ve been working at the salon I’m at now since 2020. It’s an older house that our owner and her husband totally transformed into a cozy little haven.
What has been the highlight of your career?
I was fortunate enough in January of 2018 to embark on my teaching career in Phnom Penh, where I had the privilege of sharing my passion for hair care with students at an incredible organization called Justice and Soul Foundation. The students and team there not only nurtured my professional growth but also left an indelible mark on my life.
What was the most challenging time in your career and how did you overcome it?
A challenging time in my career would have just been anytime I have felt my work wasn’t enough. I think every stylist goes through it, even years into your career. You feel like you could have done more, been better, connected more. But when it happens in the early years, it becomes easier to feel like walking away.
Those are important moments in my career where I reconnect with other stylists, up my education, or just work on something I feel like I can truly own. It helps boost my confidence to face the next challenge ahead.
What advice would you give younger hairstylists coming into the industry?
The days are long, but the years are short. It seems like a ton of sacrifice in the beginning, both professionally and personally. But if you put the work in, the payoff can be incredible. Your sweat equity will be worth it. If something becomes too comfortable, it will no longer grow you.
Is education important to you and why?
Education is the key to my continuous evolution and the successful career I’ve built behind the chair. I was fortunate to have incredible educators during my school years, who had a profound positive impact on my life.
They inspired me to pursue teaching and become a part of the next generation of hairstylists. As the saying goes, “When you give your time to education, education will change your time.”
Something I was advised at the beginning of my career was that failure is a learning opportunity, not success.
Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” - Albert Einstein

Young colourist and stylist CATERINA MACADAM, youthful at heart yet wise beyond her years, shares a valuable tip...
“In case you didn’t already know, the best kept secret for any colour, cut or style is all in the prep. No, cutting layers won’t give you any volume however, if you style using the right prep and arm work it’ll make it a hell of a lot easier for you to get the volume!”
We first came across Caterina when she started tagging @ LeytonHouseGlobal on her Instagram (thanks Cat, we couldn’t be happier to stalk you - jokes), and what we saw immediately caught our attention. As a young Leyton House colourist, her work truly stood out.
Naturally, we had to learn more about her journey in the hair industry. We asked; What strategies have you used to get noticed and what advice would you give others who want to leave their mark?
YOU DON’T HAVE TO AIM FOR RUNWAY SHOWS OR YOUR OWN SALON TO BE SUCCESSFUL;
I stay true to myself both online and in the salon, always showcasing authentic work rather than copying others. I believe in honest conversations about hair, and I’m not afraid to tell clients when something might not suit them. Building trust through honesty is key, clients come back because they know I’ll give them genuine advice, not just the easiest or cheapest options.
My biggest piece of advice for those starting out? Be yourself, stay consistent, and never stop investing in education. I remember a short coaching session with another stylist that taught me how to take the best photos, finding the right angles, understanding lighting, and focusing on the main subject.
That moment seriously transformed my social media presence. Always be open to advice from fellow stylists; even if you don’t use everything, there’s always something valuable to learn.
My journey in the industry began at 14, working as a Saturday assistant in a salon. I then moved into an apprenticeship, honestly, it was tough. I bounced around a few salons trying to find the right fit and didn’t always feel like I was progressing. Eventually, I found my place at Studio 88 , where I took a leap into my first management role. Today, I genuinely love coming to work, the atmosphere is friendly and supportive, where everyone is treated equally, regardless of hierarchy. It’s a safe space where both clients and staff feel comfortable, and I look forward to each day.
As the salon manager, I support and help my team grow which means everything to me. Being featured in this article is also a proud moment, it’s affirmation that my hard work is being recognised.
I’ve been nominated for a few awards by the salon owners, which has been incredibly motivating; recognition from the salon I work in truly means a lot.
“HONESTLY, IT WAS TOUGH (APPRENTICESHIP)”.
My apprenticeship wasn’t easy. I didn’t love the environment I was in; it just wasn’t the right fit. But I stuck with it because I knew I had a lot to give and that this was the industry I wanted to be part of. I’ve worked in a couple of salons before finding my current one, and each experience taught me something valuable.
My first salon laid the foundations of my skills, and the next salon gave me the confidence to step into management. Hating where I started from in my journey has truly motivated me to help change how my apprentices are supported, so
they can learn, grow, and achieve their goals, not just do menial tasks.
My advice? Keep learning, stay humble, and trust your gut. Being a stylist is about more than just cutting hair; it’s about understanding people, building confidence, developing resilience, and unleashing your creativity. Say yes to opportunities, especially the ones that scare you, that’s where real growth happens. You don’t have to aim for runway shows or your own salon to be successful; you just need to love what you do and strive to do it well.
Is education important to you and why?
Massively. If you're not learning, you're standing still. This industry doesn't wait for anyone! There's always a new trend, new technique or something to challenge you. Education isn't just about improving your skills - it builds your confidence, helps you grow within your team and keeps your passion alive!
In a fast-paced industry where support can feel scarce, hairstylist Zane Zvinkle is a refreshing exception, driven by passion, sustained by purpose, and lifted by those who believed in her from the beginning.

Without hesitation, Zane names the launch of Unit G as her proudest achievement to date.

Her message to aspiring stylists?
“Always believe in yourself. Keep pushing toward your dream, no matter how far off it feels. Tune out the noise, stay focused, and make it happen.”
“We never stop learning. I’m always evolving, always curious—and I love sharing what I know. Whether I’m teaching in the salon or speaking at industry events, passing on that knowledge is one of the best parts of the job.”

Being a hairstylist is a bit like being a magician, only instead of rabbits and hats, we conjure flawless hair from the mysteries of client requests. “I want a trim, but keep the length… and something different, but not too out there.” Sound familiar? It’s basically a riddle wrapped in a paradox.
But a great stylist? They don’t flinch. They translate those cryptic clues into a vision and bring it to life.
It’s not just about hearing what your client says, it’s understanding their meaning. From offhand comments to reading between.
The goal? That moment when your client’s face lights up and says, “You get it.”
Let’s be honest, some clients arrive expecting full-blown hair wizardry and perhaps rightly so. They’re trusting you to sculpt a style that works for them, and fits into their world. Nobody wants a ‘do that dies’ the minute you walk out the salon door.
Client hair wizardry is personal billboard!
HAIRCUT TO CORONATION
A visit to the salon should feel like more than maintenance, it should feel like a personal crowning ceremony.
Reclined chairs with massaging, tension-melting scalp massages, a hot towel, and perhaps even a cappuccino (or cheeky glass of wine; why not?).
Every client should leave the chair feeling like they’ve been crowned royalty, radiant and refreshed.
For many, the salon isn’t just a pit stop but an oasis from the chaos of life: screaming toddlers, packed schedules, and endless to-do lists.
A clean, and welcoming environment makes
all the difference, I was going to add ‘calm’, but that’s not always the case in salon.
Friendly, skilled, and in tune with the client at the ready to consult on colour tones and debate last night’s streaming drama without missing a beat. That’s the kind of atmosphere that builds client trust.
Time is precious. Clients want to feel prioritised, not parked in a waiting area wondering if their stylist vanished into another dimension.
Clear communication on wait times, and punctuality are key. Sounds great in theory, but it’s not always so easy. Likewise, clients are willing to invest in you, but no one enjoys feeling blindsided by hidden charges. Be open and honest and offer a quote at the consultation.
Great Hair + Great Experience = Happy, Loyal Clients.
