We implemented a number of safety protocols, including any required by canton Vaud or the Swiss federal government. During the 2021-22 academic year, students were in person in Leysin with some periods of synchronous remote learning.
ABOUT LEYSIN AMERICAN SCHOOL IN SWITZERLAND (LAS) Established in 1961, LAS is majority-owned by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Education, a non-profit organization overseen by the Swiss government. LAS is a coeducational boarding school located in the Alpine village of Leysin in the French-speaking region of Switzerland.
ENROLLMENT LAS has 300 students in grades 7-12 and a post-graduate year, with a senior class of 93 students.

ACADEMICS LAS offers a four-year LAS diploma (US high school credential), AP courses, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, a pre-high school for grades 7 and 8, and an ELA program.

Required Credits & Grading System GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The school year consists of two semesters, begins in late August, and concludes in early June. All students follow a university preparatory program and are enrolled in a minimum of seven courses. One half credit is awarded for the successful completion of each semester course. Students need a minimum of 24 total credits to graduate.
GRADING The grading system is based on a 1 to 7 scale. 1 is the lowest score, 7 is the highest score, and 3 is the lowest passing grade.
CLASS RANK AND GPA LAS does not rank or report GPA. There is no appropriate ranking system that would adequately account for highly transitory international students, many of whom come to LAS from schools in countries with different grading systems.
ACADEMIC HONESTY LAS encourages students to strive for excellence and to conduct themselves with academic honesty. Personal integrity and mutual trust are of the utmost importance. Thus, if a student has two or more instances of academic dishonesty, university advisors are required to report these infractions on student college or university applications.
