THE HEART OF HOSPITALITY

The

Lexus brand is proof true luxury isn’t limited to five-star ratings and high-end finishes; it’s about anticipation, care and wholehearted hospitality that elevates every experience.

In Japan, there’s a word that perfectly depicts the art of extraordinary hospitality: omotenashi.

While no direct English equivalent exists, it’s understood as a commitment to anticipate needs before they’re even spoken, and no task is too small if it enhances the experience for a guest or customer.

From industry to industry, omotenashi can manifest in subtle yet powerful ways. Within a restaurant, servers might quietly refill drinks and clear plates at just the right time. At a hotel front

“THIS PHILOSOPHY IS EVIDENT THROUGH GENUINE CARE, ATTENTION TO DETAIL, AND THOUGHTFUL SERVICE THAT TRANSFORMS EACH VISIT INTO SOMETHING MEMORABLE.”

desk, a guest’s early morning departure is noted in advance, prompting a take-away breakfast and taxi booking. It’s the anticipation of needs, combined with attention to detail, that turn routine service into something memorable and seamless.

The beauty of omotenashi lies in its subtlety and genuine desire to provide comfort. It flows so naturally that small, thoughtful moments cumulate into an experience of care and consideration that defines Japanese hospitality at its finest. With this, it’s easy to understand why omotenashi has influenced every aspect of Lexus from the beginning.

Lexus brings omotenashi to life through thoughtful vehicle design that anticipates what drivers and passengers need, making each journey more amazing than the last. For instance, the Lexus Climate Concierge functions much like a hotel concierge, ensuring every passenger feels completely at ease. The Mark Levinson PurePlay surround sound system

is designed with precision speaker placement to enhance your listening experience. Even the Thematic Ambient Illumination, which offers 64 colours, can be tailored to your mood, whether you select brighter tones for energy or soften hues for relaxation.

The spirit of omotenashi goes beyond vehicle design and into every customer interaction. At Lexus of Parramatta, this philosophy is evident through genuine care, attention to detail, and thoughtful service that transforms each visit into something memorable.

True hospitality offers a warm welcome. At Lexus of Parramatta, guests are invited to enjoy a barista made coffee while exploring the latest Lexus models, with our resident barista, Violet embodying the nature of omotenashi by committing individual coffee preferences to memory and creating an effortless, personal touch.

ON THE RIGHT TRACK

With an odd lucky charm, a finely tuned routine and the right mindset, leading Australian jockey and Lexus of Parramatta ambassador Tommy Berry has everything in place to chase success in the 2026 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

The racetrack is a noisy, chaotic world; enthusiastic crowds and fast-paced race commentary. But the moment Tommy Berry canters out onto the track, something shifts. That world narrows, fades and simply becomes rider and horse.

“It’s a special place for me where all the outside noise is gone,” he says. “I don’t have to listen to anything, it’s just you and the horse and it’s a pretty good feeling for me.”

The track is also a place where he feels close to his brother, who passed away 11 years ago.

“My twin brother Nathan was a jockey as well and we rode together quite a bit,” he says. “So, when I’m out on the track and it’s just me and the horse, it’s where I feel closest to him.”

Off the track, Tommy has an established routine. Cardio, watching replays, sweating sessions and coming into the 202526 season, his preparation is at its peak.

“If you prepare well, you’ll get the results and that’s making sure I’m fit and everything is feeling good and that includes my own life and my family life,” he says. “If that’s all in place, you can go to the races with a clear mind and stay focused.”

While Tommy had a solid season last year, it didn’t quite take him where he wanted to go. This season, however, has kicked off on the right foot and he’s keen to keep that momentum through to the autumn carnival.

Image: Getty Images

“When I broke my neck midway through last season, it changed my mind set in the way I do things and the way I train,” he says. “Having that time off made me realise how lucky I am to be in the position I’m in, so I want to make the most of this year, and it’s been rather successful so far.”

With a slew of success under his belt, including winning the Golden Slipper, the Doncaster Mile, Sydney Cup, Epson Queen of the Turf and Australian Derby, there’s one particular milestone Tommy is still chasing down.

“Winning the Sydney Jockeys’ Premiership would be unbelievable,” he says. “James McDonald, who’s been ranked number one in the world for the last three years, is who I have run second or third to for the last few seasons. So, outdoing him in the Premiership would be terrific. Winning a Group One is always great and I’ve been lucky enough to do that quite often, but I haven’t been able to win a Premiership, so that would seal the deal for me.”

Tommy’s career has taken him all over the world, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, but two of his top tracks are on home turf.

“Flemington and Randwick are two of my favourites,” he says. “They are beautiful spacious tracks where every horse gets their opportunity. The grandstands are incredible, and the atmosphere is phenomenal.”

With the Golden Slipper, Australia’s premier two-year-old race, right around the corner, it can be a career-defining occasion for all those involved and one that doesn’t necessarily come down to the winner being the best horse; Tommy should know, he’s taken out the top gong three times.

“It’s a race where the most professional horse or the one that does the least wrong, will get the end result,” he says. “It’s a big moment for the two-year-olds and probably a lot more pressure than they have previously experienced. Horses obviously feel everything we feel.

Image: Getty Images
“I LOVE BEING SUCCESSFUL AND I LOVE BEING AROUND HORSES, SO WHILE IT CAN BE A TOUGH LIFESTYLE, THE GOOD OUTWEIGHS THE NEGATIVES.”

If you’re nervous or worried, they will pick up on that. So, you’ve got to keep yourself in a good frame of mind, keep your horse happy and relaxed and hopefully give them a good run.”

For the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, he is looking forward to teaming up with Apocalyptic again. The threeyear-old bay filly and rising star won the Tea Rose Stakes and Flight Stakes for Michael Freedman over the spring.

“She’s an exciting horse, Apocalyptic,” says Tommy. “She’ll run in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and then the Group 1 Surround Stakes.”

Part superstition, part tradition, most athletes love their good luck charms and despite not being fazed by the pressure, Tommy will be sporting his own talisman coming into the autumn carnival.

“It’s not something I say very often, but blue undies are something I wear on all the big race days,” he says. “I got a little bit nervous in my younger years when I was coming through the ranks and trying to get the best out of myself, but after riding for 16 years, I handle those moments a lot better and I’m confident in myself, my ability and the preparation.”

Save for the wasting, Tommy loves everything that comes with being a jockey.

“Having to walk around at 53-54 kilograms means you are very limited food and fluid wise and having to lose between three and four kilos every week does become draining,” he says. “But it’s very rewarding when you get the wins on the other end and it’s all part of it. I don’t think there’s too many jobs where you love every single facet. For me, I love getting to the races, I love being successful and I love being around horses, so while it can be a tough lifestyle, the good outweighs the negatives.”

with Tommy Berry the Lexus LBX Morizo RR is engineered for performance and precision.

As the personal passion project of Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, the LBX Morizo RR is a compact powerhouse with a 1.6-litre in-line three-cylinder intercooled turbocharged engine.

With 206 kW of power and 390 Nm of torque, the LBX Morizo RR is paired with a Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission or an optional 6-speed manual. With its finely tuned transmission, sharp braking system, and adjustable power distribution, it might be small in size, but mighty in terms of performance.

WILDLY REFINED

Someluxury SUVs talk a good game. But with serious off-road capability and unmistakable indulgence, the Lexus GX 550 actually backs it up.

The Lexus GX 550 is not a car that blends in and without the badge, you’d be forgiven for not recognising it. Squarer and more architectural and assertive that anything else in the Lexus lineup, its distinctive design and authentic off-road capability have seen it become a soughtafter SUV.

“This is a car people have been genuinely excited about,” says Lexus of Parramatta New Car Sales Consultant Ben Brannen. “Its size, rarity and appearance set it apart from anything else in the Lexus range and it’s been hugely popular.”

Launched in mid-2024, the GX 550 delivers a solid performance, is luxuriously specified and simply looks cool. Its bold silhouette, squared-off body lines and elevated ground clearance hint at its capabilities, whether navigating rugged terrain or urban density.

“The GX 550 is completely different from your standard Lexus,” says Ben. “People say it’s boxy and they mean that as a compliment, but the styling is unique and very much trending.”

Centric to the GX 550 is one of its standout features: a 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 that delivers 650Nm of torque.

“IT’S MORE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL INTERESTED IN SERIOUS OFF ROADING BUT WANT SOMETHING THAT HAS THE LUXURY FEATURES THEY EXPECT FROM LEXUS.”

“It’s very responsive, and capable off road but when you’re driving it on road, it’s amazingly comfortable,” says Ben. “It’s more for people who are still interested in serious off roading but want something that has the luxury features they expect from Lexus.”

Despite its off road prowess, the GX 550 isn’t a vehicle that you need to take off the beaten track to enjoy.

“There’s a lot to love,” says Ben. “It has high and low range so even without going to the overtrail spec, which will have rear locking differential, the car is very capable for off roading.”

Adding to the GX 550’s versatility is an adaptive suspension system that enables drives to fine tune the driving experience.

“You can put it in comfort mode which will soften the suspension, or sports mode which will firm up the suspension or normal mode,” says Ben.

Smaller than the flagship LX yet larger than the RX, the GX 550 occupies a compelling middle ground and is available in three variants: Luxury, Sports Luxury and Overtrail.

Heated and ventilated front seats are joined by a massage function, while a refrigerated centre console keeps things chilled. An auto-extending side step adds practicality and then there’s the sound system.

“It has a 21-speaker Mark Levinson audio system,” says Ben. “It’s the best sound system on the market.”

A major drawcard is the vehicle’s seven seat configuration, offering genuine flexibility without the bulk associated with larger SUVs.

“It’s a wildly attractive car for families,” says Ben. “There are seven seats, but when you don’t need the third row, those seats fold almost completely flat, giving you plenty of boot space when you need it.”

Safe, family-friendly and undeniably luxurious, the GX 550 is also engineered with serious capability in mind. Its body-on-frame construction, a setup ideal for off-roaders and heavy-duty SUVs, means the cabin sits separately from the chassis.

“If you do take it off road, even when the terrain gets rough, you’re not being thrown around as much in the cabin,” says Ben. “It’s perfect for people interested in serious off roading but want something that’s got the luxury features you know and expect from Lexus.”

For those wanting genuine four-wheeldriveability without compromising on creature comforts and luxury, the GX 550 is a rare combination of power, precision and unparalleled comfort.

A SEAMLESS SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE

In many a case, booking a car service doesn’t usually spark feelings of joy. However, the Lexus service experience is anything but. Yes, there are highly trained technicians, genuine parts and workmanship that preserve both performance and resale, but it’s the experience that stands out.

What elevates the Lexus service experience is ease, thoughtful and seamless touches that take an interruption to something closer to indulgent efficiency. This is an experience that has been designed with your time in mind.

“IT TRANSFORMS A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE VISIT INTO A REMINDER THAT YOU MADE A GOOD CHOICE AND INVESTMENT.”

Q: What is the purpose of the Lexus service experience?

A: The underlying philosophy is treating car servicing not as a necessity but as an opportunity to reinforce why someone chose Lexus in the first place. This is something we do exceptionally well, and it transforms a routine maintenance visit into a reminder that you made a good choice and investment.

Q: What are some of the standout features of the Lexus service experience?

A: Personal attention, loan car program, valet service and complimentary cleaning; the list goes on! This service experience is designed to go above and beyond, where you can trust our award-winning service and expert technicians to deliver true convenience and care every step of the way.

Q: What reaction or feedback do you generally get once a service is complete?

A: “Wow, my vehicle was picked up, serviced, washed and vacuumed and delivered back to me all clean and shiny!”

REDEFINING PERFORMANCE LUXURY

Delivering a driving experience that feels ahead of the curve, the Lexus NX 450h+ proves that luxury, performance and efficiency don’t need to compete for attention.

Timing is, as they say, everything. And right now, plug-in hybrids are having a moment; electric efficiency combined with the flexibility of a traditional engine. Enter the Lexus NX 450h+, a plug-in hybrid that doesn’t feel at all like a compromise.

Available in two grades, the Luxury and F Sport, the NX 450h+ pairs a 2.5-litre petrol engine with Lexus’ advanced plug-in hybrid system, producing a combined 227kW through an All Wheel Drive (AWD) platform and seamless e-CVT transmission.

“The best way to describe the NX 450h+ is effortless,” says Lexus of Parramatta New Car Sales Consultant Ben Brannen. “It’s very smooth, very comfortable and incredibly responsive. It’s a blend of performance and luxury I haven’t really experienced in other vehicles and one of my favourite cars to drive.”

The NX 450h+ blurs the line between traditional hybrid and full electric vehicles. In hybrid operation, fuel consumption sits at an impressive 1.3 litres per 100 kilometres, assisted by technology that constantly works in the background to quietly recharge the battery without any driver input. Energy is generated in three ways: when the petrol engine is engaged, while coasting without accelerating and through regenerative braking.

“FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE PERFORMANCE CARS BUT ALSO LIKE THE PRACTICALITY OF AN SUV, THE F SPORT TICKS ALL THE BOXES.”

One of the strongest appeals of this model is how naturally it fits into everyday life. Charged overnight using a standard household power point, the vehicle offers up to 70 kilometres of pure electric driving.

“For people driving 30 kilometres to work and back, it can mean zero fuel use during the week,” says Ben. “And the beauty is that once the electric range is used, it switches back to hybrid mode.”

Even in the Luxury grade, the NX 450h+ arrives generously equipped. Heated and ventilated front seats are standard along with a panoramic view monitor that delivers a 360-degree, top-down view; the sort of feature that makes urban driving and parking feel far less dramatic than it needs to be.

But it’s the F Sport that reveals the dynamic side of the NX 450h+.

A Heads-Up Display projects key information, such as speed, navigation and gear, directly into the driver’s line of sight while Intelligent Parking Assist take the stress out of small spaces, capable of steering the vehicle neatly into a parking space. Inside, aluminium pedals add a motorsport-inspired edge underfoot while the perforated leather steering wheel feels purposeful and comfortable.

“For people who like performance cars but also like the practicality of an SUV, the F Sport ticks all the boxes,” says Ben.

The NX 450h+ offers a rare balance; an SUV that feels genuinely engaging on a winding road yet remains impeccably comfortable.

“If you’re someone who loves driving, loves corners, this car delivers,” says Ben. “It comes with front and rear performance dampers. So, it has less lateral movement in the corners, which is commonly known as body roll. It’s also got adaptive variable suspension, which I love, because it allows you to firm up suspension and further reduces the body roll of the vehicle.”

Electric when you want it, petrol when you need it, this model feels futuristic yet familiar. With the Lexus NX 450h+, you don’t have to choose between luxury and performance or efficiency and enjoyment. Instead, it offers all four in a single, beautiful package.

The Lexus NX

combines twenty years of hybrid innovation and a limitless dedication to excellence in one luxur y SUV

Have the flexibility to use electric for shor t trips or switch to hybrid for longer ones. Experience the luxur y of choice, wherever you go.

LAIDBACK LUXURY

It might be famed for its Instagram moments and celebrity cameos, but with two stunning properties, prestigious dining and an unbeatable location, Raes on Wategos proves Byron Bay is about more than the perfect post.

There is no single reason why people are drawn to Byron Bay; it’s a collection of things that add up. The scenery, the vibe, the long stretches of idyllic coastline, and the feeling that nothing feels rushed yet everything feels exciting and vibrant. It’s the kind of place where you don’t necessarily need an itinerary because the simple pleasure of being there and settling into the rhythm is the entire point.

“Byron has a relaxed, laid-back spirit, but it also has real energy and atmosphere,” says Raes General Manager Marty McCaig. “It’s welcoming, community-driven and defined by its beautiful natural landscape. There’s nowhere else like Byron Bay.”

Summer might be a whirlwind of activity, especially with school holidays, Christmas and New Year in full swing, but there’s something to be said for each season.

“Summers here in Byron are incredible and bring a great energy, but it’s also really special in the winter and shoulder months,” says Marty. “The beaches are quieter, the days are crisp and clear, and the overall pace feels more relaxed. It’s also a beautiful time for seasonal produce to shine, for very special sunsets, and for guests to lean into a true reset.”

In this corner of New South Wales, sustainability isn’t merely a trend and many a menu tells the region’s story: a love for local ingredients and practices to keep things green.

“THE LOCATION, AESTHETIC AND PERSONALISED SERVICE CREATE AN EXPERIENCE THAT FEELS BOTH WELCOMING AND THOUGHTFULLY CONSIDERED. IT’S A PLACE DESIGNED FOR COMPLETE RELAXATION.”

“Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers are defined by exceptional local produce and a strong commitment to sustainability,” says Marty.

Firmly on the map for foodies, it’s safe to say the region has established itself as one of NSW’s most exciting regional dining destinations. The Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide recently awarded two hats to three Byron Bay venues including Raes Dining Room, Pipit and Bistro Livi.

“Ocean-to-plate cooking, world-class hinterland produce and a tight-knit community of chefs, farmers and producers make this one of Australia’s most compelling dining scenes,” says Marty.

Set right on the shores of Wategos Beach, Raes on Wategos combines beachfront bliss with the comfort of a private retreat. Across two stunning properties, premium penthouses, rooms and suites exude understated coastal elegance while the Mediterranean influences perfectly complement the original architecture. Marble floors, mosaic tiles and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces all add character to the opulent experience.

“To me, Raes is the definition of laid-back luxury,” says Marty.

“The location, aesthetic and personalised service create an experience that feels both welcoming and thoughtfully considered. It’s a place designed for complete relaxation.”

It’s tempting to think the beachfront location is what keeps guests coming back, but there’s more at play. Here,

excellence isn’t occasional and there’s consistency of care across every touchpoint. From check-in to check-out, the team at Raes takes pride in their highly personalised service.

“From the location, the character in the design to the quality of dining, everything is considered and delivered with such a strong sense of intention,” says Marty. “Our service, however, is what makes Raes magical. It’s thoughtful, friendly and elevated and we really love our guests leaning into the experience we can give.”

Set around a picturesque pool and lush tropical gardens, Raes Hotel features two penthouses and five suites. While the Guesthouses, located a short one-minute stroll from the Hotel, comprises of eleven rooms and suites, indoor common areas, two lap pools, open log fireplaces and a private terrace bar. So blissful it could be imaginary.

“DAYS TEND TO UNFOLD SLOWLY, OFTEN BEGINNING WITH A LIGHTHOUSE WALK OR AN EARLY OCEAN SWIM, FOLLOWED BY A LEISURELY BREAKFAST AND COFFEE ON THE TERRACE.”

“For our visitors, days tend to unfold slowly, often beginning with a Lighthouse walk or an early ocean swim, followed by a leisurely breakfast and coffee on the terrace, our dining room or in-room,” says Marty. “Guests might then settle in for a day by the pool, cocktail in hand, with a light lunch from the Terrace Bar, a sunset aperitivo at the Cellar Bar, and an early dinner at Raes Dining Room overlooking the water.”

Raes offers several standout experiences across dining and wellness, but Raes Dining Room remains the signature.

“Set right on Wategos Beach, it delivers a modern Australian menu with Mediterranean influence under executive chef Jason Saxby, who brings experience from Quay, Pilu and The Ledbury,” says Marty. “The menu is driven by local, sustainable produce from the Northern Rivers and Southern Queensland.”

For something more relaxed, Raes Cellar Bar is a casual beachside spot open from midday to sunset, perfect for a drink, fresh seafood and bar snacks after a dip in the pool. It’s walk-in only and very much part of the daily rhythm of Wategos.

Come autumn, Raes is set to launch a new property, located at 116-118 Jonson Street in the heart of Byron Bay.

“The Bonobo is a hotel-apartment concept offering both rooms and apartments, all managed by Raes and designed for short and extended stays,” says Marty. “The property will feature a food and beverage offering in the lobby lounge, a rooftop pool, a wellness retreat and a selection of curated retail spaces. Set to become a new sculptural landmark in central Byron, we’re looking forward to welcoming guests very soon.”

Raes has captured the very essence and vibe of the region, blending natural beauty with a vibrant food and hospitality scene. It’s a place where genuine hospitality meets effortless luxury, giving guests the perfect way to linger, relax, and truly soak in the unique character and beauty of Byron Bay.

A TASMANIA TREASURE

Japanese traditions Kaiseki and Omotenashi take centre stage at this Hobart-based restaurant, transforming dining into art and celebrating seasonality, precision and luxury.

Tucked within a Lexus showroom, Omotenashi is the kind of find that feels like a secret. The restaurant’s origin is as deliberate as its cuisine. In 2022, David Jeary, the owner of Lexus of Tasmania, reached out to founders Lachlan Colwill and Sophie Pope when they were looking for a space to practice the art of Omotenashi.

Sharing the role of head chef, Lachlan and Sophie have over 35 years of global hospitality experience between them and have become the driving force behind one of Tasmania’s most exclusive and premium dining experiences.

“Omotenashi, as an art, is quite unique in Australia,” says Lachlan. “While Kaiseki is common in Japan, it’s not something the western world, and especially Australia, are accustomed to. We offer something singular in both the approach to ingredients and service style.”

Kaiseki, Japan’s elegant multi-course haute cuisine born from ceremonial tea meals, has evolved into a refined culinary philosophy that prioritises balance and flavour. While Omotenashi means to wholeheartedly look after guests, drawing on the mindset of hospitality focusing on care rather than expectation.

“WE BELIEVE GUESTS LEAVE WITH A DEEP SENSE OF CONNECTION; TO US, THE SPACE, TO THE CUISINE AND TO TASMANIA.”

Ideal for those who appreciate restraint, craftsmanship and quiet beauty, the 10-seat Kaiseki-style restaurant combines Japanese tradition with the purity of Tasmania’s landscape.

“We serve a hyper-seasonal, high quality Kaiseki menu of about 10 to 12 courses,” says Lachlan. “It’s a blend of Tasmanian produce and traditional Japanese cuisine.”

The multi-course menu highlights the finest seafood and produce from Tasmania’s land and waters, prepared with intention and care.

“We believe guests leave with a deep sense of connection; to us, the space, to the cuisine and to

Tasmania,” says Lachlan. “If all the circumstances align, it can be a transcendent experience that takes them out of their everyday life for a moment.”

World-class bluefin tuna, southern crayfish, yellow eye mullet and alfonsino, all caught off the Tasmanian coast, feature alongside seasonal produce such as nasturtium leaf, kinome sansho leaf, cygnet shiitake and more.

“It’s less about a single dish and more about the seasons,” says Lachlan. “People love visiting in different seasons to see how we use different ingredients, whether that’s summer fruits or winter seafood for example.”

Visiting Omotenashi is not a place to scroll through

your phone or rush in between errands, it’s an experience to be savoured.

“We suggest guests come with a clear mind, clear schedule and a clean spirit to fully enjoy themselves,” says Lachlan. “It’s a very particular experience that’s ideal when you can really immerse yourself.”

With limited seating, the experience is personal and intimate, and reservations are strongly recommended for those hoping to secure a place at Omotenashi’s counter.

Lexus Encore members can enjoy a bespoke dining experience at Omotenashi Hobart, including:

• Priority booking up to 12 months

• Complimentary drink from a list of selected beverages

AUTUMN IS CALLING
