Flood and Landslide Update - Nepal

Continuous heavy rainfall has triggered devastating floods and landslides across Nepal, claiming at least 51 lives as of October 3, 2025. Among them, 37 fatalities were reported in Ilam District, where overnight downpours caused multiple landslides.

Blocked roads and damaged bridges have made access to affected areas difficult, forcing rescue teams to move on foot. Security forces, helicopters, and motorboats have been deployed to assist with rescue and relief operations.

The disaster has also blocked highways and disrupted flights, stranding hundreds of travelers returning home after the Dashain festival. Experts link these worsening monsoon patterns to climate change, which has intensified both the frequency and severity of rainfall.

Despite the tragedy, this year’s government response has been notably stronger. Active rescue operations by the Armed Police Force and other agencies provided timely assistance, earning public gratitude. Many said they felt the government’s presence and support more clearly than in previous disasters.

Standing with the Brave: HSN’s Response to the September 8th Gen-Z Protest Casualties

A Moment of Grace and Pain

Our team at Hosanna Sewakai Nepal (HSN) was deeply moved and compelled to act following the tragic events of the Gen-Z protest on September 8, 2025. From our HSN office, we initiated a vital mission—to personally visit and support those who were severely injured by gunfire. This outreach was not only about providing aid; it was about standing shoulder-toshoulder with those who risked their lives for the future of our nation.

Our first visit was to Liza Adhikari at Civil Hospital. Liza’s story is one of profound pain and endurance. Her mother had already endured immense sorrow, having previously lost her son to suicide. Now, seeing her daughter suffer from a severe gunshot wound was another devastating blow.

To support her immediate needs, the HSN team provided cash assistance, designated for her recovery from the bullet wound near her shoulder joint. This contribution ensures she receives

necessary medical care without additional financial burden.

Next, we met Paras, one of the first individuals critically wounded during the September 8 protest. He sustained life-threatening injuries to his chest and neck, and his survival is nothing short of miraculous.

Despite facing a long and painful recovery, Paras has shown remarkable resilience and courage. In recognition of his bravery and urgent medical needs, our HSN team provided a substantial cash donation to assist with his treatment and ongoing recovery.

Journey Toward Healing

The HSN team mobilized swiftly, providing both financial and material support totaling 2 lakh rupees for immediate needs. In addition, food, clothing, and essential supplies were distributed to ensure holistic care for the injured.

These individuals continue to endure deep physical and emotional pain, and their journey toward full recovery will take time. We invite everyone to lift them in prayer—that divine comfort and healing would touch every wound, and that they may soon stand strong again, their courage and purpose renewed.

They fought for the nation; now we must stand for their recovery.

— Inspiring Courage Amid Pain

We then met Sanjeet Yadav at KMC Hospital, a young man injured by a gunshot wound to his leg during the protests. Even while confined to his hospital bed and in great pain, Sanjeet chose to encourage others, saying that his suffering should serve as a testament to the courage needed to face life’s challenges.

HSN provided him with cash support and essential food items, praying that this tangible care would strengthen his recovery and spirit.

A 17-Year-Old — Beacon of Hope

Our final visit was to a 17-year-old girl, a courageous young soul who symbolizes the hope and future of Nepal. To bring comfort in her dark season, the HSN team offered cash assistance for her immediate needs, along with a copy of The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren (Nepali translation).

We pray this book serves as a light of encouragement, reminding her of her value, purpose, and strength as she heals.

Community Service and Support

In parallel, Hosanna Sewakai Nepal (HSN) organized several voluntary donation programs across more than 50 police stations in the Kageshwori Manohara area, expressing appreciation for the police’s dedicated service and commitment to community safety.

Staff Capacity Building Training

HSN also continues to invest in its team’s professional growth.

• Two staff members are completing Excel and Data Entry training.

• One is pursuing Graphic Design and Nepali Typing.

• Two are enrolled in Social Media and Marketing.

• Another two are taking part in Videography and Photography training.

Through these efforts, HSN aims to strengthen both its community service and organizational capacity, ensuring a lasting and positive impact on the people we serve.

We lift our heartfelt gratitude to our Almighty God for blessing us with such faithful and compassionate partners who continue to stand with us in fulfilling the divine mission entrusted to our hands. Through this Community Care Initiative, the Lord is graciously opening new doors for us to reach people with the life-transforming Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are deeply thankful for all of you who have been praying fervently, partnering faithfully, and giving sacrificially. Your love and commitment have become a tangible expression of God’s grace in this season of challenge and pain.

Even amid sorrow and uncertainty, we stand in awe of God’s sovereign hand, witnessing how He is using this very moment of hardship to soften hearts and draw the unreached people of Nepal toward His light and love. Truly, what the enemy meant for harm, God is turning for His glory and the salvation of many.
