Lewis-McChord Communities Landscaping Schedule 2018 Landscaping services are currently included in your rent. On your lawn service day, you will need to ensure that your lawn is free of toys and personal belongings so the mowers can cut your grass. You can have one large non moveable item in your yard such as a swing set or trampoline. Please see your District Office for Outdoor Policies. The mowers will cut within two (2) feet of the item. You will be responsible to cut the grass under and the two (2) feet around the item. You may choose to maintain your own lawn if desired. Contact your District Office for a sign to put in your window. If the home you live in has a fence either provided or installed by you, you are responsible for the maintenance of your yard.

Resident Responsibilities
Recreational Vehicles Recreational vehicles are not allowed to be stored in the Lewis-McChord family housing areas or anywhere on the premises. Your District Manager may issue a 72 hour pass to allow you to bring such vehicles to your home for packing and cleaning. There will be a limit of two (2) such passes issued per month to each resident. A recreational vehicle is defined as any vehicle that is not designed primarily as a passenger vehicle and includes motor homes, travel trailers (self-contained and pop-up), 5th wheel trailers, campers (mounted on trucks and not mounted), motorboats, sailboats, jet skis, ATVs, any type of trailer and boat trailers of any kind. At no time are any vehicles permitted to be parked on the lawn, grass, yard or common areas. Please confirm with your District Manager permitted locations for parking RVs within housing. If your trash District day falls on a holiday your Garbage collection may be delayed by a Schedule business day

Failure to maintain may result in fines.
Pets & Resident Responsibilities It is your responsibility to take care of your pet(s) Any and all pet(s) and animal(s) approved by Lessor must be kept inside the residence at all times except when on a leash or when securely confined in your fenced backyard, provided the fence is approved by management and is of adequate size and strength to restrain the animal. Pets are not to be tied up and left unattended if there is no fence. Pet owners are responsible for disposing of their pet’s waste immediately, whether the pet is on a leash or in a fenced area. Sustainable JBLM What do I do with all this packaging material?
By Cathy Hamilton-Wissmer, Directorate of Public Works Many of us are buying more and more products on-line, add that to the moving from one base to another, and the question comes up- what do I do with all of this packaging material? Consider reuse as the first option. Think about ways you can reuse any of the material that came with your recent purchase. Did it come with cornstarch pellets? Kids love to make recycled art with those colored squishy pellets. You can lick & stick them together or put on a piece of construction paper (Valentine’s Day hearts, anyone?). Recycling can be confusing but in essence it is about supply and demand. Technically, almost everything is recyclable. However, it does not mean that there is a manufacturer that wants to buy and make it into something new. For example, the price of oil, which is used to make many different kinds of plastics, is now very low. For that reason the price manufacturers will pay for plastics collected for recycling has also dropped. So there are fewer plastic items being recycled. Deli containers, clamshell-style containers and drink cups go in the trash whereas plastic bottles, yogurt cups, and detergent jugs can go in your recycling cart. Cardboard boxes can be recycled at the Recycling centers on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, or put into your grey housing recycling bin for pickup. Residents can also deposit the boxes & packing material in the conex at the Lewis Main recycle center for reuse. Keep it in mind for your next move! You can always reuse Bubble Wrap. You can save it for the next move, or use a sheet of bubble wrap to fill your hand bags and prevent them from losing shape when you’re not using them. It is an insulating layer when used to wrap around your pots and containers in the garden during cold winters. Ensure that the wrap is a couple of inches above the container lip. This keeps the soil warm when the temperature drops. While Bubble wrap is not recyclable on JBLM, you can always return it directly to Sealed Air. See their website for instructions: https://sealedair.com/product-care/recycling- bubble-wrap-plastic-paper- foam-packaging. Remember there are NO plastic bags, Styrofoam or molded foam in your curbside recycling bin. They are not recyclable on JBLM. Please put in your garbage can. When in doubt, throw it out! JBLM has two recycling centers, one at Lewis, Building 5290, across the street from JBLM Lewis Main Commissary just off 12 th and Nevada and another on McChord, Field Building 516, behind the Exchange and McChord Field Commissary just off South Gate Road. Welcome to GO Lewis-McChord You have probably wondered what the vans driving around Joint Base Lewis-McChord with GO Transit signs on the top are for. What are these GO Transit vehicles doing by every DFAC, gym, and major route on JBLM? GO Transit is a free transit system available to everyone on JBLM that lets you travel the main areas around base. How do you use GO Transit? Find the stop closest to you by visiting the GOLewisMcChord.com website or downloading the free phone app OneBusAway. Use the schedules listed at any of those locations to determine the next time a vehicle is due at that stop. Stand within five feet of the GO Transit stop and the driver will stop, although a little waive is always appreciated, especially in low-visibility situations. When you board, let the driver know what stop you want to go to. If your destination requires a transfer, the driver will communicate with the other vehicles to make sure you easily get onto the next vehicle. In addition to the on-base transportation options this provides, GO Transit also connects with two off-base locations. The 512 Park-and- Ride in Lakewood provides connections with public transportation to Sea-Tac Airport, Seattle, Lakewood Town Center, and Tacoma. The DuPont extension provides access to restaurants and businesses downtown as well as weekday connections with public transportation to Seattle. Consider trying GO Transit on your next trip to the Post Exchange, the gym, or an appointment. You will find it easier than fighting traffic and more convenient than searching for parking! Perhaps you’ve been wanting to spend more time outside, or you’ve been hoping to lose those last few stubborn pounds. Whether your goal is to spend more time at the gym or explore JBLM, you are more likely to achieve it if you do it with friends. You are a great candidate for this May’s Bike Month with Pierce Trips. Biking with friends and logging bike trips have never been more exciting because there are more Bike Month events in Pierce and Thurston Counties every year. Riding has never been easier! GO Bikes are available for check out up to 14 days at a time, at no cost. Service members, dependents over the age of 18, Department of Defense employees, and JBLM contractors are all eligible for the program. Find a bicycle location at GOLewisMcChord.com Anyone who logs 5 or more bike trips at PierceTrips.com during the month will be entered to win some great prizes! Check PierceTrips.com for more details. You can register to ride as a team or ride individually. If you’re interested in forming a bike team then complete the following steps to get started. 1. If you are not already logging trips on PierceTrips.com, you will need to open a Trip Calendar account. Begin by clicking on New User and complete the registration form. Already registered? Simply Login. Did you forget your password? Please request a new password by clicking on Forgot Password. 2. Click on Teams on the purple bar across the top of the page. 3. Click on Create a Team. 4. Name your team, select the campaign, and affiliate your team with Joint Base Lewis-McChord (or your employer or school). 5. Click the purple Save button. 6. You are now listed as the Team Captain. Start inviting members to your team by clicking on the Invite a Member button. Sometimes the invite email goes to spam or is blocked by the employer firewall, so check with your invitees. 7. If you’d like help recruiting additional bike team members, email golewismcchord@gmail.com with your request. Now that you have a team set up, it’s important to keep motivated to ride your bike, and that’s easiest with outings to attend. You can find the Bike Month Calendar of Events happening in Tacoma-Pierce County at Bike253.com. Check back regularly as events are added through the end of May. Individuals riding solo do not need to register, but will log their trips on the Trip Calendar.
