How Can We Help? Do you have a needed repair, a suggestion, or a concern? Liberty Military housing is committed to enriching the lives of military families through providing homes and vibrant communities. Your feedback is an important piece in helping us accomplish this goal, and we want to ensure we provide you with an avenue to initially address your needed repair, suggestion, or concern and the process to escalate it, should that be necessary. WINDOW SAFETY Liberty Military Housing (Liberty) is committed to keeping our residents informed and educated in an effort to help prevent any potential accidents or injuries while living in our community. Windows do more than bring in light and fresh air. They help you stay connected to the world outside and can serve as essential emergency exits in case of a fire. But they also require care, especially around children. Unsecured or improperly used windows can pose serious safety risks. To help keep your loved ones safe, especially the little ones, please remember these simple window safety tips at all times. Taking just a few precautions can make a big difference.
To protect children, the Window Safety Task Force offers the following tips. Keep windows locked when not in use — especially upper-level windows or those accessible to children. Do not place furniture – or anything children can climb - near windows — children may climb and gain access to an open window. When opening a window for ventilation, always supervise children around open windows — even with screens, accidents can happen.
Teach children that windows are not play areas — build awareness early. Check window screens regularly — they keep bugs out, not children in. Don’t rely on screens for safety. Inspect window hardware and window opening control devices (WOCD) regularly — report any damage or concerns, including missing window safety stickers to Liberty maintenance team promptly.
A Note from Liberty: Window Guards are available at the expense of Liberty and can be installed at the resident’s request. This is an additional alternative to the Window Opening Control Devices (WOCDs) that are installed on all applicable windows (second story or higher) during the turn process or as needed. Window Guards are NOT child-proof, and the standard precautions apply. To request a window guard for your home, call Liberty At Your Service 888-578-4141.

Air Conditioner Policy Window and portable air conditioners are permitted in all homes. Residents no longer need to submit a request form prior to selfinstalling an air conditioner unit. Please contact your district office for a copy of the policy and installation guidelines. Things to remember when installing your own unit.

Clear plexi-glass material or plywood material painted to match the color of the window frame must be used for all exposed areas of installation. Liberty Military Housing will not be responsible for added electrical loading imposed by your equipment. (i.e. added utility costs on your Minol utility billing). Liberty Military Housing will not be responsible for any damage to the window or structure, including but not limited to window warping, mounting hardware damage, condensation leakage, or residue from foams or tapes, charges may apply for these damages.

Fire Pits & BBQ Grills Safety Reminders
Fire Pits Only commercially purchased, above ground fire pits are allowed in family housing. Must be used at least 15 feet from your home and within your yard. Firepits are not to be used in tall dry grass or below low hanging tree limbs. Firepits are not to be used in overhangs , eaves in garages or carports.
BBQ Grills Town Center may only use a gas grill on their designated patio. BBQ grills must be used at least 15 feet from your home to prevent damage to the sliding. BBQ grills are not to be used in overhangs , eaves in garages or carports.
All communities need to properly store flammable materials, keep a fire extinguisher or water source readily available and have adult supervision by all fires until extinguished.
EBIKE SAFETY TIPS Battery Safety Reminder As e‑bikes become more popular, we want to ensure everyone stays safe. Lithium‑ion batteries can pose a fire hazard if left charging for long periods or plugged in overnight. Please remember:
Always monitor your e‑bike while it’s charging Keep chargers away from flammable materials Unplug once fully charged Report any unusual smells, smoke, or heat immediately Any damage to your unit caused by unsafe charging practices will be the resident’s responsibility.

A WORD FROM OUR WEST ARMY PARTNERS Stormwater Runoff Can Affect Drinking Water By: Tonya Bartels, DPW Environmental, AGEISS Inc. Clean drinking water is one of our most important natural resources. Every day, we rely on safe water for drinking, cooking, bathing, and many other activities. While most people simply turn on the tap and expect clean water to flow, protecting drinking water requires ongoing effort from water providers, communities, and individuals. Where Does JBLM's Drinking Water Come From? Drinking water on Joint Base Lewis McChord is produced from groundwater sources that are derived and naturally filtered by aquifers. These underground aquifers naturally filter water as it moves through layers of soil and sediment. The aquifers are recharged by local rainfall, helping maintain a reliable supply of high-quality drinking water. JBLM regularly monitors its water to ensure it meets federal and state drinking water standards. Groundwater sources are generally less vulnerable to contamination than surface water sources such as rivers and lakes because the soil and rock layers provide natural filtration. However, groundwater still requires protection from pollutants that can seep into the ground over time. What Is Stormwater Runoff? Stormwater runoff occurs when rainwater or melting snow flows across roads, parking lots, rooftops, lawns, and other surfaces instead of soaking into the ground. As this water moves across the landscape, it can pick up pollutants such as: Oil and grease from vehicles Fertilizers and pesticides from lawns Pet waste Trash and litter Sediment and dirt Household chemicals Unlike wastewater that flows to a treatment plant, stormwater often drains directly into nearby streams, wetlands, lakes, and groundwater recharge areas. At JBLM, stormwater flows into storm drains and natural waterways without treatment. How Stormwater Runoff Can Affect Drinking Water When pollutants enter stormwater runoff, they can eventually reach water sources used for drinking water. Contaminated runoff can degrade streams, wetlands, and groundwater supplies. Excess nutrients from fertilizers can promote harmful algae growth. Oils, chemicals, and heavy metals can harm aquatic ecosystems and potentially impact water quality. Stormwater pollution is considered one of the leading threats to urban waterways in Washington State and across the nation. Because groundwater aquifers are replenished by rainfall and infiltrating water, protecting the land surface from pollution helps protect drinking water sources for future generations.
