Our brave men and women in uniform understand duty, honor, and sacrifice Many have returned home with both the visible scars, and the unseen wounds of war; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) The PTSD Foundation of America is a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring our veterans and their families suffering from combat related posttraumatic stress. The PTSD Foundation of America offers support groups nationwide and a recovery program at their residential facility in Houston, TX.
What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? PTSD is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening event such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood Most survivors of trauma return to normal given a little time However, some people will have stress reactions that do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time These individuals may develop PTSD People who suffer from PTSD often relive the experience through nightmares and flashbacks, have difficulty sleeping, and feel detached or estranged, and these symptoms can be severe enough and last long enough to significantly impair the person’s daily life.
People with PTSD experience three different kinds of symptoms. The first set of symptoms involves reliving the trauma in some way such as becoming upset when thinking about the trauma while you are trying to do something else The second set of symptoms involves either staying away from places or people that remind you of the trauma, isolating from other people, or feeling numb The third set of symptoms includes things such as feeling on guard, irritable, or startling easily
PTSD is complicated by the fact that people with PTSD often may develop additional disorders such as depression, substance abuse, problems of memory and cognition, and other problems of physical and mental health The disorder is also associated with impairment of the person’s ability to function in social or family life, including occupational instability, marital problems and divorces, family discord, and difficulties in parenting. Early treatment is important and may help reduce long-term symptoms. Unfortunately, many people do not know that they have PTSD or do not seek treatment. Notify your designated district office and submit your notice to vacate your home once you receive your new orders. A move-out inspection will be scheduled with you to ensure the home is in quality condition and there are no significant damages upon move-out. Utilize your move-out checklist to ensure you are prepared to turn the home back over to Liberty Military Housing and avoid any extra move-out costs.

Resident Shield Renter’s Insurance
All residents are required to have renters’ insurance with a minimum of $100,000 in personal liability coverage. This is to help protect you when unforeseen damages are caused to the home and/or your personal property.
Don’t have renters insurance?
All residents who do not have renters’ insurance are placed onto the Master Policy which is a resident incurred cost of $9.08/month ($7 for premium + $2.08 administrative fees). This coverage does not include coverage for personal property.
To be removed from the placed Master Policy, you must submit your own proof of coverage renters’ insurance.

Swimming Pool Policy Reminders
With warm weather comes swimming pools. Here are a few reminders regarding the policy.
Pools are only to be in place from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Pools must be removed and stored no later than September 10.
Pools are only allowed in fenced backyards that have selflatching gates.
Pool cannot be taller than the fence.
No temporary structures are allowed around the pool.
You are liable from any issues that arise from use of the pool. Wading pools are allowed without prior written approval. Wading pools are defined as being no more than 18 inches in height. They must be emptied and put away daily.

Air Conditioner Policy
Window and portable air conditioners are permitted in all homes. Residents no longer need to submit a request form prior to selfinstalling an air conditioner unit. Please contact your district office for a copy of the policy and installation guidelines.
Things to remember when installing your own unit.
Unit Size: 6,000 BTU maximum
Unit Weight: 46 pounds maximum

Power Requirements: 110 Volt, 5.6 Amp maximum. No 220 Volt units are permitted.
Clear plexi-glass material or plywood material painted to match the color of the window frame must be used for all exposed areas of installation.
Liberty Military Housing will not be responsible for added electrical loading imposed by your equipment. (i.e. added utility costs on your Minol utility billing).
Liberty Military Housing will not be responsible for any damage to the window or structure, including but not limited to window warping, mounting hardware damage, condensation leakage, or residue from foams or tapes, charges may apply for these damages.
Fire Pits & BBQ Grills Safety Reminders
Fire Pits
Only commercially purchased, above ground fire pits are allowed in family housing. Must be used at least 15 feet from your home and within your yard.
Firepits are not to be used in tall dry grass or below low hanging tree limbs
Firepits are not to be used in overhangs , eaves in garages or carports

Town Center may only use a gas grill on their designated patio.

JBLM’s Household Hazardous Waste Reuse Program

Joint Base Lewis McChord operates a household hazardous waste reuse program for JBLM housing residents. Many household products contain hazardous substances and are harmful to our environment and to aquatic life when disposed down drains, toilets, and storm drains. Everyone living on JBLM can drop off unopened or partially used household hazardous materials and also pick up any needed items that have been packaged for reuse
Why it Matters
Your participation supports a sustainable environment to live and work in, reduces disposal costs, and helps fellow service members and families.
Examples of Common Household Hazardous Waste
Examples of commonly accepted items include paints, solvents, cleaners, disinfectants, degreasers, antifreeze, adhesives, propane, and batteries.
What You Can Do
Drop off your unopened or partially used household hazardous materials at JBLM’s designated collection site. You can also pick up materials for reuse at no cost. Common materials available for pickup include paint, garden supplies, cleaning products, and light bulbs.
What NOT to Do
Do not put household hazardous materials or waste in regular dumpsters or recycling bins and never pour these substances down drains or onto the ground.
