From Sept. 12 to Oct. 23 of 2022, locals in Louisiana and Mississippi managed to register three double eagles (also called an albatross), which is one of the rarest shots in golf!
Joe Joe Jones got things started with two shots to complete the par-5 fourth at Greenville (Miss.) Municipal Golf Course. Jones’ feat was witnessed by Derrick Cotton and his daughter. Then on Oct. 16, Scott Snyder recorded his double eagle on the 17th at The University Club in Baton Rouge, La. Snyder’s second shot on the par-5 was from 205 yards out and witnessed by Phil Slicker, David Breidenbach and Parry Snyder. The final albatross for 2022 was made by Blake Baldwin, who is an Assistant Professional at Reunion Golf and Country Club in Madison, Miss.
Baldwin accomplished the feat on the ninth hole while competing in the Battle Over 463 at his place of employment. After a 301-yard drive, Baldwin used a 5-iron from 225 yards to finish the par-5 hole in two strokes.
There are hundreds of golf holes in the metro area of New Orleans. While each person may have their favorite ones or holes they may not care for, these three holes are ones that stand out in the Crescent City area.
In no particular order, they are the par-5 18th at TPC Louisiana (Avondale), the par-5 15th at English Turn Golf and Country Club (New Orleans) and the first hole at Stonebridge Golf Club of New Orleans in Gretna.
Stonebridge,a 27-hole facility on the Westbank of New Orleans, has lots of water on the course as only a few holes do not have the wet stuff in play. The very first hole of the course sets the tone for what kind of course it is.There is some water on the left of this hole, which can play as long as 585 yards and as short as 434 yards, however the real danger is the canal that runs along side the entire right side of the hole. Golfers are taught not to focus on water, but the width and intimidating display of the canal on this hole can’t be completely tuned out.The original designer of this course is unknown, but he must have been smiling with this water feature being used on this hole.
If you travel nine miles east of Stonebridge Golf Club of New Orleans, you will end up at English Turn Golf and Country Club. The 18-hole facility has played host to many PGATour events in its lifetime. The four-hole finishing stretch is as

challenging as any you will find and it starts out with the par-5 15th,which features an island green. The signature hole of the course can play as long as 540 yards or as short as 444 yards. The island has bunkers on each side the green to catch errant shots. The entire hole has water along the right. Jack Nicklaus designed the course.
Over at TPC Louisiana, which plays host to the PGA Tour’s annual Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the 18th is its signature hole. The par-5 has water along the entire right side as it plays from 415-585 yards depending on your tee box.
Several bunkers on the hole await errant shots, including one in the middle of the fairway about a 115 yards from the green. This hole sets up for some great finishes.
