Highlights from these auctions are reviewed, and we look ahead to our season of winter sales. Pictured right is a later painting by Jean Dubuffet estimated at $100,000–150,000. Site avec 3 personnages doubled its presale estimate at $203,000.
Chicago, Illinois PRE-FIRE CHICAGO MAP BY J.T. PALMATARY SELLS FOR $200,000 The most sought after lot in our September 13 Fine Books and Manuscripts auction was J.T. Palmatary’s rare bird’s-eye view of pre-fire Chicago. Offered from a private collection, it sold for $198,600 to a Chicago collector against a presale estimate of $20,000–30,000. Three other copies of the map are held by the Library of Congress, the Newberry Library and the Chicago History Museum. INQUIRIES

Chicago, Illinois “SERPENTI” BY BVLGARI, PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE The “Serpenti” collection by Bvlgari is immediately recognizable by the serpentine forms wrapped in various fashions, such as this white gold and diamond bracelet. Included in our September 10 Important Jewelry auction from an estate, it sold for $27,000 against an $18,000–22,000 presale estimate. The sale included many other iconic collections from notable designers, such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Verdura, Schlumberger, Tiffany, David Webb and Angela Cummings.

Naples, Florida PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF HEIDI TURNER, SARASOTA, FLORIDA Theodoros Stamos’ Untitled (from the High Snow, Low Sun Series), c. 1962-63, was among the top-selling lots in our September 28 Post War and Contemporary Art auction. The painting nearly doubled its presale estimate of $60,000 –80,000, realizing $155,000. In May, Leslie Hindman Auctioneers sold a similar Theodoros Stamos from the same series for $197,000. Palm Beach, Florida TAPESTRIES FROM THE BREAKERS PALM BEACH The October 16-17 Fine Furniture, Decorative Arts and Silver auction included a historic tapestry from The Breakers Palm Beach. Descended from the collection of oil, railroad and real estate tycoon Henry Morrison Flagler (1830-1913), these tapestries are engrained in the lore of southern Florida. It was Flagler who founded the first luxury accommodations and railroads on Florida’s Atlantic coast, and whose name is synonymous with historic Palm Beach. INQUIRIES

Calhoun is a civic leader who sits on the board of numerous local organizations and helps to coordinate some of their largest annual events. Calhoun spent seven years at Sotheby’s New York in a number of business development and marketing roles. Notably, she oversaw marketing initiatives for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Duke and Duchess of Windsor collections. We are thrilled for Mary to join the LHA team as we expand our presence in Georgia.
