A Celebration of Elegance

Step into a world where timeless elegance meets bold expression, and every jewel tells a story. Leonard Joel is proud to unveil its September auction of Important Jewels, a curated collection that celebrates the artistry, heritage, and enduring allure of fine jewellery. This season’s offering is a vibrant tribute to cocktail jewels, showcasing daring design, vivid gemstones, and the captivating charm of statement pieces.

At the heart of this collection lies a dazzling 3.02 carat D colour marquise diamond ring (Lot 36), a masterpiece of sophistication and grace. Its brilliance is echoed by a breathtaking 5.01 carat pear-shaped diamond ring (Lot 5) and a rare Argyle natural fancy pink diamond (Lot 18), each a whisper of nature’s most precious treasures. These exceptional gems set the tone for a symphony of sparkle and craftsmanship.

Among the highlights is a pair of multicolour South Sea pearl necklaces (Lot 34) curated by the legendary Cartier, showcasing the Maison’s fearless use of materials and bold scale. Cartier’s legacy with pearls is deeply rooted in its heritage, dating back to the early 20th century when the house became synonymous with the world’s finest natural pearls. Revered for their luminous quality and rarity, pearls were a cornerstone of Cartier’s early haute joaillerie, adorning royalty and tastemakers alike. This tradition continues in Lot 34, where the graduated pearls (17mm to 15mm) reflect the brand’s enduring commitment to elegance and refinement. Complementing this is a glamorous pair of South Sea pearl and emerald drop earrings (Lot 23), offering the perfect finishing touch.

Colour plays a starring role throughout the collection. From the verdant pulse of a Colombian Muzo emerald and diamond bracelet (Lot 56) to the refreshing brilliance of a blue sapphire ring (Lot 69) and the radiant glow of a yellow sapphire ring (Lot 35), each piece is a celebration of nature’s palette.

The romanticism of natural diamonds is beautifully captured in Lot 49, a yellow diamond necklace that drapes brilliance close to the heart, embodying affection and cherished memories. Iconic pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels (Lot 19), vintage Cartier (Lot 1 & 38), Bulgari (Lots 20 & 21), and Tiffany enrich the collection with their unique artistry and innovation. From Art Deco masterpieces (Lot 16) to contemporary creations, this auction reflects the evolution of design and the timeless appeal of gemstones. A pair of bracelets by Charles Krypell (Lots 53 & 54) evokes Hollywood glamour, blending haute couture with imaginative motifs.

We invite you to experience this exceptional collection firsthand at our exclusive viewings in Sydney and Melbourne. Discover the beauty, history, and craftsmanship behind each piece and perhaps find the perfect jewel to begin your own story.

protection of movable cultural heritage act 1986 (pmch act)

Buyers should be aware of the PMCH Act which protects Australia’s heritage of movable cultural objects and supports foreign countries’ right to protect their heritage of movable cultural objects. The PMCH Act regulates the export of nationally significant heritage objects, it is not intended to restrict normal and legitimate trade in cultural property, and does not affect an individual’s right to own or sell objects, within Australia. The PMCH Act was enacted in response to the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property. It is the responsibility of the Buyer to ensure that the export of any lots purchased are not subject to, or in breach of, this Act.

Information about the PMCH Act, the Protection of Movable Cultural Heritage Regulations 1987 and the 1970 UNESCO Convention, can be found on the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts website at: www.environment.gov.au/heritage/movable/index
