The project presented aims to act as an extension of The Highline. One of the most beautiful aspects of The Highline is the harmony between the greenery and the old train rails. The objective of the project is to simulate a tree, where something different happens in each branch.
The transition from the horizontal park to the vertical connection is not only facilitated through stairs but also platforms. This design provides a gradual transition from the top level to the ground. Even though it is a vertical connection, the horizontality of The Highline is translated to each platform.

The solar analysis is important to understand how the sun impacts the public spaces throughout the year.
The zoning study is conducted to aknlowedge the parks that exist nearby the site, and to know if either is neccessary to add another green area or a different type of instalation.
This diagram shows the most common paths that people follow around the site, either on foot or by car, and how they get to The Highline. It helps to determine how people would interact with the project.

First parti model developed considering a vertical conection between horizontal members.

Second parti model shows a void instead of a solid that could be the horizontal connection between the horizontal members.

The third and las parti model shows a connection between the horizontal members through a vertical and a diagonal member that is more subtle, giving more attention to the horizontality of the model.

Taking into account the horizontality of The Highline, this drawing is not only focus on horizontal members, but on the trees that can be found at the Highline.
Concept drawing of a concept drawing of the vertical conncetion showing The Highline and the horizontal language on both structures.

First iteration developed with the idea of using staiur landings as platforms that function as public spaces to rest. Connecting the ground level to the highline with a spiral structure.

This iteration model shows the parti model’s idea of keeping the horizontal language while creating a vertical connection.

First, the parti model shows the horizonal language on the structure connected with vertical elements.
Second, the horizontal members become platforms for public use, and the vertical elements become voids that allows natural light to get to the bottom of the structure.
Third, the public spaces are connected through stairs, which was represented as a diagonal member on the parti model.
SCALE: 1/8” = 1’ - 0”
The circulation through the horizontal spaces creates a slow transition from the highline to the ground floor, providing a similar experience as to walk along The Higline.

The goal is to design a museum of culture located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. This museum focuses on video game culture and explores how video games have influenced society and culture. It delves into the intersection of video games with various fields such as education, art, architecture, music, and more.
The process of creating and developing the building is grounded in the concept of the disconnection of the world and at the same time a connection to a virtual world through videogames. These serve as guides in shaping the evolution of spaces, circulation, and the overall structure of the building.

First parti model developed with the concept of connection and disconnection in mind, disconnecting the structure from the ground and simultaneously creating aerial connections.
The second model shows plannar elements that are different from each other, but when all of them are connected through the linear elements, a network is created.
This represents how players around the worl create a bridge between generational and cultural gaps.

The solar analysis is conducted to understand how much natural light the project will get and how to regulate it.

This model cretes a separation of the massing representing a disconnection and creating a space where the sun would reach only during a few hours.

The shadow study is conducted to know how the building’s shadow will interfere with the surounding areas of the site.

Exhibit areasa are separated from the building and the ground floor, creating shadow for the lower floors.

Disconnect the exhibit areas from the rest of the building, blocking the on the enbtire building with just one face.

1) 100’ x 100’ site previously analyzied.

2) Square mass as a pixel

3) Disconnect the mass from the ground

4) Distribute programs along the mass.

5) Disconnect the programs from the top.

6) Disconnected building from the ground, but connected within.

Inspired by the history of the previous train station and the street art that surounds the area.
The objective of the project is to use the exisiting train station and converti it into a space where people can interact with each other and the site as well, the interior walls sprovide a blank canvas for users.
The hostel is developed on the rest of the site, inspired by the exixsting building, and conserving the escense of materials, the new building is a transition into a modern building.

The solar analysis is important to understand how the sun will impact the natural illumination of the hostel and the open areas.

There are not enough spaces where people can create art around the site.

The purpose of the new building is to provide a new space for art, galleries, where people can create street art, and have enough natural light as well.
