The heritage-listed Department of Lands building in Sydney, Australia, has relaunched as a major cultural and events destination, as part of a mixeduse redevelopment of two iconic buildings known collectively as the Sandstone Precinct.
Singapore-based Pontiac Land Group owns the property, as well as the building next door that was the former Department of Education building.
The two-phase restoration project has seen Pontiac turn the Department of Education building into the 192-key luxury hotel, Capella Sydney, which opened in 2023 and is managed by Capella Hotel Group. This hotel has a signature Auriga Spa with treatment rooms, a 20-metre heated indoor swimming pool and a vitality pool. It also has
a steamroom, sauna, experience showers and an ice fountain.

Our sauna ritual is a driver of success and a proud platform for showcasing world-class sauna master talent

Celtic rituals
Galgorm will host the UK Aufguss Championships this week (20-22 April)
In recent years, aufguss has taken the wellness world by storm. For the uninitiated, aufguss is an immersive sauna ritual that blends heat, essential oils and choreographed movement to create a multi-sensory experience unlike anything else.
At Galgorm’s Thermal Spa Village, aufguss has become much more than a trend; it's a cornerstone of the guest experience since the introduction of the Celtic Sauna Infusion ritual nine years ago. Today, it’s a key driver of

operational success and a proud platform for showcasing world-class sauna master talent.
Internationally recognised as a key player in this specialism, Galgorm is hosting the UK Aufguss Championships this week, for the second time. The event brings together top sauna masters, industry leaders and wellness enthusiasts from across the country. This high-profile moment not only celebrates the art of aufguss but showcases the Thermal Spa Village as a world-class destination for wellness innovation.
Even more exciting is that our own Zak Moore, the current UK Aufguss Champion, will be defending his title. Zak’s passion, skill and creative flair have been instrumental in shaping our Celtic Sauna Infusion and his success reflects the dedication and talent within our spa team.
Future-proofing
In the last 10 years, over £60 million (US$76 million, €70 million) has been invested across the resort. Since 2020, £3 million (US$4 million, €3.5 million) of this has been directly targeted
at developments within the Thermal Spa Village itself. In 2025, we announced a broader £40 million (US$51 million, €47 million) expansion strategy through to 2027, reinforcing our role in growing and future-proofing Northern Ireland’s tourism and hospitality industry.
We recognised the growing appetite for deeper wellness experiences early on, with the addition of our sauna rituals, scheduled experiences, seasonal themes and special-event sessions.
This uplift in engagement has directly contributed to increased occupancy, repeat visitation and incremental revenue, particularly through day spa experiences and enhanced Thermal Spa Village utilisation. Guests now return and ensure this is part of their stay, transforming aufguss from a simple wellness feature into a signature experience that strengthens our competitive edge.
The Celtic Sauna can accommodate 30 guests at a time and rituals take place three times a day, generating approximately £10,000 (US$12,700, €11,700) a month.
Aufguss adoption
The most important factor for anyone considering the addition of aufguss at their spa facility is that the team members are trained and well-equipped to offer the experience. It’s worth thinking about sending your team to another spa which has expertise and can train them in the techniques required.
The sauna should also have enough space for the master to move around to get the best out of the ritual. Also, all staff at the property should experience the ritual so that they can talk about how it feels to guests.
As aufguss continues to grow in popularity, we remain committed to evolving the Celtic Sauna Infusion and offering guests transformative experiences that deepen their connection to wellbeing. ● We recognised the growing appetite for deeper wellness experiences early on

Paris welcomes contrast therapy destination centre Sant Roch, with occupancy rates above 85 per cent in its first month
Sant Roch, a contrast therapy wellness centre that opened in Paris’ first arrondissement (France) last month, has welcomed more than 4,500 visitors, with occupancy rates above 85 per cent.
The 400sq m, two-storey destination, was founded by serial entrepreneurs Jules and Chloé Buscatel. The pair are known for their fitness group called Monday Sports Club, which operates more than 20 studios in Paris under brands such as Dynamo, Punch and RIISE.
Facilities
The centre, which draws inspiration from the Roman baths of Lutetia, has a 60sq m sauna and five cold plunge pools that vary in temperature between 3°C and 5°C.
The artistic direction for the property is led by Oliver Léone. Architecture is by Torontobased Futurstudio – a firm that was founded by Ali McQuaid Mitchell, who is known for her wellness space creation for companies such as Othership.

The objective was simple: the client experience should never be impacted by operational issues
changes, immersive playlists and aromatherapy. The property offers both guided rituals and an option for guests to experience the facilities themselves. Guided rituals include breathwork, meditation and movement, and have been created in collaboration with yoga and meditation practitioner Clotilde Chaumet and Monday Sports Club strategist and storyteller Gabriel Seibel.
First month
In a post on LinkedIn, Jules Buscatel said the launch had surpassed expectations, even despite operational challenges before opening: “We hadn't anticipated a launch of this magnitude. The day before the opening, the sauna wouldn't turn on. The hot water tanks weren't powerful enough.
Every evening, we wondered what we would discover the next day.
“The objective was simple: the client experience should never be impacted by operational issues,” Buscatel continued.
The company has shared that more than 100 memberships have been purchased since the property opened. Seventy per cent of clients also returned after their first session.
The guided rituals were fully booked up to seven days in advance at the property, which is open seven days a week from 8.00am-10.00pm. It recorded peak attendance during evenings and weekends.
In terms of clientele, the site recorded, Parisians from across the city and a “significant number” of international visitors, which the company has identified as both professionals and tourists. ●

ESPA Spa
The new spa, which measures 1,300sq m, has been created by ESPA’s in-house design consultancy, with the concept inspired by the local 123km Parenzana Trail – a historic rail route that once connected Croatia, Slovenia and Italy and is now used for walking and biking.

The Comfort Zone Way
Denise Dente, general manager, outlines how Comfort Zone is evolving into a powerful partner for the global spa industry
What were your immediate priorities as GM?
When I joined, I saw a brand with strong scientific credibility and global recognition. My priority was to sharpen our strategic focus and align the organisation around a clear professional-first vision. That meant reinforcing our commitment to spa partners and the therapists whose expertise transforms science into meaningful guest results.
We refined how we communicate clinical validation and performance credentials, while expanding beyond topical skincare into advanced skin-tech devices and a structured hospitality platform. These steps reposition us as a longterm partner that supports treatment excellence, guest satisfaction and commercial performance.
How are you shaping innovation?
Leadership, for me, is about clarity, alignment and empowerment. With a presence in over 40 countries, we must balance global consistency with local sensitivity. Innovation at Comfort Zone is purposeful and measurable. Our in-house R&D facility and scientific committee ensure that every formulation and protocol is grounded in credible research. At the same time, we’re scaling our Made-in-Italy skin-tech devices internationally. These technologies give professionals deeper diagnostic capabilities and enhanced treatment

precision, while also helping spas navigate staffing challenges by offering high-quality, self-directed services that extend menus and optimise space. Technology doesn’t replace touch. The human element remains central to our philosophy and is a defining aspect of the Comfort Zone experience.
How do you see the brand evolving?
We’re building Comfort Zone into a fully integrated, regenerative wellness partner. Our ambition is to offer a cohesive ecosystem that combines science, advanced devices, professional education, rituals, lifestyle products and resort amenities.
Operators increasingly seek partners who can deliver performance and purpose. Our approach supports skin, body and mind health while helping them create distinctive, results-driven guest experiences that translate into loyalty and long-term value.
Which trends will most influence your strategy?
Regeneration and longevity are key drivers. Consumers are moving from quick fixes toward daily practices that support long-term skin health and overall wellbeing, while expecting visible results.
Advances in clinical testing, circadian rhythm research and skin adaptability are shaping how products and rituals are developed. At the same time, spas are rethinking how they use space. Our Face SPAce concept, for example, offers a business solution beyond the traditional treatment room, delivering fitness-style facial services in accessible formats that appeal to younger guests and male audiences, while creating incremental revenue opportunities.
What differentiates Comfort Zone?
We combine four core pillars – advanced skin-tech devices, clinically validated professional protocols, high-performance homecare and hospitality solutions – into what we call The Comfort Zone Way. This model is supported by comprehensive education that goes beyond product training to include the art of touch, effective use of technology and business development skills. By equipping therapists and operators with both technical and commercial tools, we help elevate guest outcomes and strengthen spa profitability.
How does your heritage inform the future?
For three decades, we’ve championed a conscious approach to skincare rooted in science, sustainability and holistic wellbeing. As a B Corp, these values remain central to how we innovate and operate. Our heritage provides the credibility to evolve confidently – translating our founding principles into next-generation formulations, advanced devices and professional solutions aligned with modern longevity and lifestyle expectations.
Why is Body skinification a growth opportunity?
Body is the next frontier in skin longevity. Guests now expect the same level of actives, efficacy and ritual experience for the body as they do for the face. Our Body Strategist range, formulated to significantly boost collagen in both professional treatments and homecare, enables spas to deliver visible results while strengthening retail attachment and repeat visits. It’s a clear opportunity to increase treatment revenue and build long-term guest loyalty.
What excites you about leading Comfort Zone?
The opportunity to create lasting value for our partners and their guests. Our promise for the next 30 years is to advance conscious skin science through professional expertise, rituals and technologies that support longevity and elevated living. l More: www.comfortzoneskin.com

ISPA chair Kenneth Ryan led sessions each morning. He shared details of his own professional journey and bestowed various awards on members of the community for their services to the industry.
Industry insight
Colin McIlheney, longtime analysis collaborator on the State of the US Spa Industry reports, revealed the annual Big Five statistics in the most recent study, which show the steady progress
the sector has made. He challenged the industry to grow its revenue from US$23.5 billion (€21.6 billion, £18.3 billion) in 2025 to US$30 billion (€27.6 billion, £23.4 billion) by 2030.
Other headline statistics included spa visits reached 191 million in 2025, up 1.8 per cent on 2024's total of 187 million; and revenue per spa visit increased to US$123, up 2.3 per cent from 2024.
McIlheney encouraged as many spas across the US to take part in the next study, to achieve the most accurate figures possible.
ISPA Research Foundation
Kelleye Martin, ISPA past chair revealed she is taking over the role of chair of the ISPA Research Foundation from Todd Shaw.
The body will now take the research it conducts and translate it into resources that help the spa industry implement new ways of working and improving business.

Elemis unveils Pro-Collagen Bodycare cleansing balm and cream collection
Elemis has extended its range of Pro-Collagen products from facial formulations to those for the body.
The two new products are the Pro-Collagen Body Cleansing Balm and the Pro-Collagen Marine Body Cream. Designed to be used in sequence, the balm
supports and strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier and the body cream improves the appearance of firmness and elasticity.
The balm’s ingredients include saccharide isomerate, which is said to target signs of dehydration even after it is rinsed away.
The body cream’s formulation incorporates microalgae chlorella vulgaris, which boosts firmness.
Noella Gabriel, CEO and co-founder of Elemis, says: “ProCollagen is one of the most loved and trusted franchises in skincare, and with the launch of Pro-Collagen Bodycare, we are extending this expertise beyond the face for the first time.

LPG Group has created a new 55-minute body treatment called the Silhouette Reset, with a manual massage, to help the body release accumulated tension.
The therapy combines the company’s Cellu M6 Infinity technology with manual techniques to stimulate circulation and support the mobilisation of stored fat. This holistic treatment has been developed to smooth the body’s silhouette as well as encourage natural balance when it comes to a sense of wellbeing and restored energy.
Robert Babik, MD of LPG America, told Spa Business the ten-minute manual phase takes place at the end of the treatment, when tissues are already stimulated and receptive.
